Need Help With X/Y Teams

Hi guys. I've been practicing online for a set of big matches I'm having with a friend - we have money going on them - but I'm having trouble settling on my Pokemon. We're using different teams for each match (though you're allowed to use the same ones if you want), best out of seven, no duplicates and no legendaries (ubers are fine). I'm mostly practicing using online ranked 3v3 (so I haven't practiced with hazards very much), but I can't seem to get better than fifty-fifty at the default ranking and I can't experiment well with a full team.

I don't want to rebreed any of these Pokemon (though I do plan on getting some duplicates running different sets for both a Mixed Hydreigon and Technician Breloom) so I'd primarily like help with team composition, creating good offensive and defensive cores, and additions.

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Modest/Volt Absorb
-
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Volt Switch
--- [Need new suggestion since I can't get Signal Beam]

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs
Modest/Levivate
-
Draco Meteor
Focus Blast
Flamethrower
U-Turn

Talonflame @ ??? [Flying Gem once we can get them]
Adamant/Gale Wings
-
Flare Blitz
Brave Bird/Acrobatics
Tailwind
Swords Dance

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Adamant/Poison Heal
-
Stone Edge
Focus Punch
Spore
Substitute

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Sassy/Sand Stream
-
Stone Edge
Payback
Dragon Tail
Stealth Rock

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Bold/Water Absorb
-
Scald
Ice Beam
Wish
Protect

Extras on Hand

Careful Wish Support Umbreon
Adamant Blaziken
Offensive Rapid Spin Starmie
Modest Mega-Charizard Y
Jolly Drapion

Also planning on getting Ferrothorn and Azumarill.

EV spread would TOTALLY be appreciated here.

Jolteon is better off as Timid, since it needs to outspeed as much as possible. Without Timid, it fails to outspeed Greninja or Alakazam, and those run +Speed natures. The best way to use that moveslot is Hidden Power Ice or Fire, despite the power nerf. Use 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe as the EV spread.

Use 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe for Hydreigon's current spread.

Talonflame's EV spread should be 192 HP/252 Atk/4 Def/60 Spe. With Gale Wings giving its Flying moves priority, Talonflame can afford to invest in bulk. Since Talonflame is 4x weak to Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin support is CRUCIAL to its success, and that's what you have Starmie for. Also, give Talonflame Brave Bird. As suicidal as that sounds, it's Talonflame's best Flying STAB. If you don't want to kill Talonflame faster with Life Orb and Flare Blitz/Brave Bird recoil together, use Sharp Beak or Sky Plate as Talonflame's item.

Tyranitar's Sand Stream doesn't benefit everyone in the team. It also cuts into Talonflame's already limited longevity. I'd drop it for one of your reserves, if I were you, like Blaziken.

Breloom should use 12 HP/252 Atk/244 Spe as its EV spread.

Use 248 HP/252 Def/8 Spe for Vaporeon's EV spread.

If you want to use Ferrothorn and Azumarill, here are their best bets:

Ferrothorn:
-Spikes/Stealth Rock
-Leech Seed/Thunder Wave
-Power Whip/Gyro Ball
-Stealth Rock/Gyro Ball/Protect
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/76 Def/180 SDef or 252 HP/200 Def/56 SDef
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs

Azumarill:
-Waterfall
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough
-Superpower
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 212 HP/252 Atk/44 Spe
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power

or
-Belly Drum
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough
-Waterfall/Superpower
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spe
Item: Mystic Water/Splash Plate/Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power

Thanks for the tips and sorry for the late reply. I could have sworn I replied already, but I guess it didn't go through... o_o

I'm trying to build another team around these two Pokemon too if you have any good suggestions for support. For the Spin Blocker I'd been thinking of training a Trevenant and I'd wanted a Rapid Spinner (possibly Forretress or Exadrill) for cleaning opposing webs and other hazards. I was also considering a Houndoom with Pursuit and Sucker Punch for a priority move that doesn't hit King's Shield. What do you think?

Lead Galvantula
Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpAtt, 252 Speed, 4 SpDef
Focus Band

Thunder
Volt Switch
Energy Ball
Sticky Web

Garchomp
Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
[Item Undecided, possibly Mega Stone]

Swords Dance
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Fire Fang

Galvantula's item should be Focus Sash, not Focus Band. Both items function differently. Focus Band occasionally leaves the user with 1 HP if it would be KOed, while Focus Sash leaves the holder with 1 HP if it would be KOed at full health. Galvantula needs Focus Sash more because it tends to be KOed from full health often. Also, use Bug Buzz over Energy Ball because Galvantula REALLY needs the secondary STAB and few Pokemon resist Bug/Electric anyways.

Mega Garchomp without Sand support from Hippowdon or Tyranitar is pointless. Just to throw that out there. If you're not using Tyranitar anymore, use Lum Berry or Yache Berry. If you're still using Tyranitar, Mega Garchomp sets should look like this:
-Swords Dance
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 44 HP/252 Atk/212 Spe
Item: Garchompite

or
-Draco Meteor
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Fire Blast
Nature: Naughty
EVs: 224 Atk/32 SAtk/252 Spe
Item: Garchompite

Okay, thanks. I wasn't really sold on his Mega form, but it was more of a lack of knowing what to put on him. I'll just run him with a berry then. What Rapid Spinner will still function well on that team if the enemy has no hazards?

Forretress. If you need a hazard setter and a Rapid Spinner at once, Forretress is your best bet:
-Stealth Rock/Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Gyro Ball/Volt Switch
-Earthquake/Volt Switch
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy

As a rapid spinner here i kinda like Excadrill. it gives you the ability to also be a little offensive if you need to as well.

For your Garchomp i would do something like:
@ life orb
Nature: Jolly
Rough Skin
4 HP/ 252 Attk/ 252 Speed

Outrage
Swords Dance
Fire Fang/Stone Edge
Earthquake

Oh. Lol. I didn't even realize I wrote Band instead of Sash. xD I meant Focus Sash. I also wrote energy instead of enemy. o_o I'm typing way too fast.

I didn't need the Rapid Spinner to set hazards. I wanted one who will still be effective if the enemy doesn't have hazards, since a bunch of my friends don't run any. Garvantula's web is going to be my main field hazard. I was also thinking of running a Technician Breloom with Spore too since he'd really appreciate the enemy being slowed.

I'm really having trouble deciding who to run together though. There's a lot of Pokemon I like and only so many spots on my team.

Edit: Is Mega Houndoom viable outside of sun? Would Sucker Punch still work on him?

No, Mega Houndoom excels at sun teams, and it should only see use there. Use it outside of sun, and you're wasting its potential.

Starmie or Excadrill can be good Rapid Spinners for the team.

Starmie:
-Hydro Pump/Surf
-Thunderbolt/Psyshock
-Ice Beam
-Rapid Spin
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure

Excadrill:
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Rapid Spin
-Swords Dance/Shadow Claw
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Item: Life Orb/Leftovers/Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker/Sand Rush

Alright. Thank you. : ) I'll let you guys know how everything goes.

Dark Azelf November 13th, 2013 9:56 AM

Defog is always an option with Talonflame if you're only using SR as it removes hazards from both side as im sure you know and cant be blocked.
