Mega's vs Legendary

So, I think it goes without saying that Mega Pokemon are incredibly strong. Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Scizor and Mega Gengar for sure, at least.

But how do you think they compare to legendary pokemon like Kyogre? Are they on the same tier? Should they be lower?

What are your thoughts?

Yesiamsteve November 12th, 2013 11:38 AM

Legendary pokemon are still stronger x2 ^_^

Mega's vs Legendary

serebii has an over all stat page, and ones like tranitar and others are all the top of the page.

XxCassiexX November 12th, 2013 12:33 PM

I think it's hard to gauge based off of just stats because you need to look at each individual pokemon's abilities. Mega Kangaskhan alone has the ability to smack twice, adding to its attack stat with an extra 50%. That gives it an overall stat range of 655. Likewise you have to take into consideration their actual movepools. o.o

Base stats wise some mega's have the same total amounts as ubers. But the mega stone uses up your item slot so your pokemon may get worse depending on abbilities. And not all ubers are good, it depends on your team and your opponents team, moveppool, strategies etc.

Mega's can overtake legendaries. That's what I think

Mega's vs Legendary

well a mega gengar looses its ability of levitate but legendaries are stil legendary...especially suicune and darkrai

LoudSilence November 12th, 2013 3:25 PM

I think it's hard to compare them just like that, like you said movepools and abilities matter a lot.

Legendaries are cool in-game but I don't feel too special using them in matches with people; I'd probably go with megas.

Earthbound93 November 12th, 2013 3:28 PM

i've wrecked legendaries with mega manectric. granted he is ev trained to have stupid high special attack :P

EvilWeavile November 12th, 2013 8:01 PM

Depends on the mega. Mega mawile and absol arnt really that good at all, where as mega tyranitar has higher basestats then some legendaries. Mega Mewtwo is too strong. Regardless if it's X or Y it has a higher base stat total than arceus!

New Eden November 13th, 2013 11:07 PM

Some Megas fair in their own way. Mega Gengar can just trap things and make its demise quick and painless. Mega Blaziken is just as viable as its vanilla counter-part. Mega Mawile can do some damage if it's setup correctly.

Some like Venasaur and Pinsir I don't see being very viable though.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire November 14th, 2013 7:42 PM

Well in terms of Bst the psuedo Legendary Megas match those of Black and White Kyurem...

I plan on testing out Venusaur in competitive, wonder how it'll fair considering it's defenses and having only two weaknesses...

Cool Cat Mickey November 14th, 2013 8:46 PM

I think that it depends on the Mega and on the Legendary in question. Some Mega's, like Mawille, only get Mega's so that they are viable options.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few more (please GF, not all of them) Legends get mega evolutions, instead of common Pokemon megas overtaking what are supposed to be the bug guns. Mega Zapdoz, because I've always disliked its design, so having it as a mega might make it more visually appealling. Definitely a mega Arceus, because it flippin' GOD, and it could be whatever it damn well pleases XD Maybe a mega Rayquaza
some legendaries I don't want to see touched and possibly ruined with Mega Forms: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Suicune, Articuno, Latios, latias, and Victini.

The only ones in the stat range are tyranitar and garchomp.
I've ran adamant mega garchomp with sand stream tyranitar... it is crazy powerful.
I think my jolly mega heracross had an attack stat of like 228 at lvl 50 ( I EV everything ) which looks pleasing but its mostly for looks, he still falls victim to the 4x weakness and lack of team support ( don't really know what kinda team he would fit in )
Ran mega mawile impish and it took a beating on super double battles...
All of them are still gonna have their weaknesses no matter how boosted they are.
Now when you ask about legendaries like groudons or zekroms or xerneas... I don't know man, because legendaries have great base stats and usually have great move pools to provide checks for their weaknesses, or just random powerful moves, legendaries will still over power them IMO because of abilities and movepools ( and also hold items )
