How is everyone?
Joined not to long ago but just now saw this big annoying box at the top of the website, so I thought I would read the words inside of it and I read that it wants me to make n introduction thread so hopefully it will be gone soon. (Edit: well wasn't that nice of them to put a button to close it? In other words: annoying box is gone)
Anyways, I've always wanted to make my own pokemon game the way I imagined things (pokemon that makes sense and aren't just little spheres/ovals with arms and legs). Sadly it is waaaay beyond me to make a high definition three dimensional world that I envisioned. But it is not beyond me to make a gameboy advanced version, however for a long time I didn't even know there were people hacking the roms of pokemon games until about 2 days ago. So here I am, A complete newb in the matter but doing pretty good with the loads of tutorials and programs out there to help people like me. By the way, a lot of fans are really greedy/possessive of their fakemon(term I just discovered yesterday) there's a lot of good fakemon out there but almost just as many people will not allow others to use them. So I am completely wasted on finding new 'fakemon' for my game. Which, not gonna lie, kind of needs new content. Of the 649 that I had to choose from I only kept 149. Of which 6 are questionable and I might remove them. Sooooo... yeaaaaaaaaah... definitely in the need of fan pokemon/fakemon, however, I am extremely picky, I mean I only kept 108 of the original (of which venonat is highly questionable and might be removed later, it does fall under ball with arms and legs after all). So if you know anyone who does sprites or free and is relatively good at it please list them. Otherwise modder resources for hacks such as fakemon, buildings, trainers etc will also be greatly appreciated. Another term I found today is 'genwunner' of which you could probably call me. I am not blind to the defects of generation 1 though and that is why I only kept 108/106. |
Welcome, i'm also new :) sorry, i won't be much help to your ambitions, however i do wish you luck in achieving all that you want to achieve, i'm sure you'll find people that are willing to help though :)

I will however need some luck, especially if I go spriting. So I thank you for that. |
Hi there Varus and welcome to PC!!
I can get why making a game by yourself would be very difficult. I don't think I'd ever get most of the complicated stuff that goes with making a game. Especially if it invovles math haha. I can't help you unfortunately, but there's people here who definitely can. If you're looking to make a Pokemon game, the best place to go would be Game Development. Or if you want to just make a ROM hack, you should also check out Emulation& ROM Hacking. Both sections should give you the help you need. You can get people to help you with everything including spriting, mapping, scripting, and anything else. Good luck with any future endeavors. Both in real life and in your games/projects. See you around and I hope you enjoy your stay here! |

I think I might have been a little to hard on my initial cutbacks from the newer gen pokemon and I'll likely go back and review them. Thanks for the reply :) |
Aw gosh, I wish I knew of spriters that could help you out but alas.. I don't. :( Though I'm sure they're out there in hiding somewhere so with enough time you'll find someone. It takes quite a lot of effort to make a fangame or hack but once you start getting off the ground it's very much worth it. Welcome to PC, Varus! I love your avatar~
Seems like you're really dedicated towards creating something amazing which makes me happy to hear as a lot of beginning hackers drop out of the game a wee bit early. I had plans to create my own many years ago (as in.. 2006? 07, perhaps?) but gave up and started focusing more on playing through them as I realized it was what I enjoyed more. But whatever help you need you'll likely find here in due time so be sure to stick around! Glad to hear you're already finding things to help you along. n_n We're happy to have you. Contact a staffer sometime if you need help or are confused with the forum and good luck. |
Welcome mate havin fun well i hope you are well good day!

I decided that it would probably be best if I play through Emerald again since I literally have not played pokemon in several years. Would get me used to it again. I don't thinking hacking emerald will be too difficult as there seems to be a lot of support for it. My main concerns are finding out the graphical limitations for the gba emulator and how to sprite or finding others who can sprite. There seems to be an abundance of tilesets so that's a huge plus. And if I could use some of the stuff from hg/ss/dppt or b/w in the r/s/e roms and play it on the gba emulator that would also be awesome. As they have advanced graphics, and looks are half of everything. |
