What do you miss about DPPt?
Do you miss playing Diamond, Pearl and Platinum? Or do you much prefer to leave these fantastic (imo) games behind and allocate all your effort into playing the newest generation of Pokemon games? Are there any features of DPPt that you miss because they're absent from the recent releases?
Discuss! |
I still do actually. I deleted my old save file a few years ago and couldn't be bothered to start again. I miss exploring the caves, catching them all, battling in Stark Mountain and all that good stuff. Every time I've tried to boot it back up again, I've just lost interest. Maybe it's because of the high standard the newer games set with 3D and all that. D/P/Pt just seemed ancient compared to them. As for features, I can't think of anything they've left out. I'd love to see mining and the Poketech back though. :)

Do you miss playing Diamond, Pearl and Platinum?
I do! Most of the nostalgia comes from being able to trade with folks across the world for the first time. I already was obsessed with the Pokemon series at the time, but Wifi trading just about rocked my world. Or do you much prefer to leave these fantastic (imo) games behind and allocate all your effort into playing the newest generation of Pokemon games? I definitely play all of the newer games ten times more than I played Dppt. However, my Pearl has the honor of being my only file with 700+ hours, so hey, there's that. Are there any features of DPPt that you miss because they're absent from the recent releases? I miss the Battle frontier, Sinnoh underground, and some of the coolest cities like Snowpoint and Sunyshore and Hearthome. I've had some trouble living without the Poketch to use as a step counter, happiness checker, daycare egg watcher, and stats on your last received Pokemon and all sorts of widgets and things! I really miss Dawn and her Platinum outfit hnggggggg |
I don't miss DPPt at all because I play them all the time! I play Pearl way more than I play Black/B2/X - I just found the Gen IV games to be so much more interesting than other regions and there was so much to do post-game too. I absolutely love the Sinnoh reason and for me it was the last generation before the new Pokémon being added in started seeming like filler because it's a new generation rather than being inspiring cute fun quirky creatures that you'd want to train, so whenever I feel like playing a Pokémon game it'll 90% of the time be either Pearl or Platinum haha. I really wish they'd remake the Sinnoh region in the new amazing graphics style from XY, but I can't help thinking having all these new Gen V/VI Pokémon around Sinnoh would spoil it a tad. I don't want the threatening caves of Mt Coronet to be littered with random ice creams floating around and I don't want random happy key chains flying into my face whilst I'm looking for bunnies and ghosts in Eterna Forest :(
DPPt will never get old for me and although there were a lot of improvements that could've been made (Pokémon followers!), it's by far my favourite trio of games. |
Platinum. My all time favourite Pokemon game. One thing I really miss is badass champions. Steven and Cynthia were great, but since then, I havent been remotely interested or intimidated by a champion. Going up against that Garchomp, I actually felt excited. My heart went faster. When I won, it was on my last pokemon, with low health. Nowadays, I swept Dianthe with Krookodile, only level 66. Alder was alright, but I really don't think Dianthe is champion material. Also, Pokegear! I WANTZ IT. And I really liked the underground. And the distortion world.
|
I do not miss them, because, well… I still play them! xD Not as often as I used to, but I play them whenever I get the chance. They're quite old, yes, but you shouldn't allow that to stop you from enjoying these games. One feature from D/P/Pt that should've made into the recent games is, in my opinion, Ball Capsule. This enabled our Pokémon to be sent out on the field in a flashy, stylistic way, which was very nice to look at. Only thing that I didn't like about it was that it required you to remove all Seals from a Pokémon before putting them into your PC, which was sort of annoying. If there was a way to have Seals removed automatically, then that would have been much better.
|
I missed playing Platinum, but all the new games like Black and White and even X makes me take much of time playing the latest one instead of Platinum. However, I missed Ball Capsules customization feature, and traveling into Distortion World as well.
|
My Lite broke long ago, so it's been a while since I played these awesome games. :'( I missed lots of things about these games, such as the music. I loved the music! It made me stay on the routes, on the towns and on battles a little longer, despite not having the "Hoenn trumpet charm". But I also missed the contests. Many people don't like it, but I do! Even more than the R/S/E ones. It felt like it was a real contest, with dressing up and the dancing! Another feature I missed was the Ball Capsules. The Underground/Secret Base whatever didn't really feel like a secret base (I don't think it was meant to be one idk??) but it was fun chasing around and steal flags and stuff. And the Poketch.
|
The things that I miss in Platinum are poketch, villa, contest, etc.I love the underground game because I can get some cool stuffs like fossils, shards, evolution stones and damp rocks.
|
I miss DPPt's post game content. To me, it was the best part.
I still have the good memories of my journey to Stark Mountain, come on that was so good. There's more, there's still the Sinnoh Underground, Ball Capsule customization, THE POKETCH, The villas and many more! So yeah I really do miss those games I simultaneously played both Diamond and Emerald back when DP was released. |
I think one of the things I kinda miss is the Underground. I still think it would've been cool if they could've implemented the idea for wifi, just your friends, instead of local wireless. But, I can understand that it would've taking quite a bit to do so.

The contests are what I miss the most, I love it. |
You can't miss playing a game you still play :P. platinum was really the last game that had pokemon that fit in with the older generations. Unlike today when you have keys O.o. if there is one thing i miss from sinnoh it would have to be the underground. I spend so much time down there trying to customize my base and mineing...
But i disagree with the idea of haveing it as wifi instead of infrared. It brought my friends and i together, something that is hard to do now |
Do you miss playing Diamond, Pearl and Platinum?
I do admit I really miss playing through Sinnoh. It was a beautiful region in its own right and had some strong Pokemon to boot. Not to mention it had one of my fave female Pokemon game protagonists ever. Or do you much prefer to leave these fantastic (imo) games behind and allocate all your effort into playing the newest generation of Pokemon games? I'm someone who usually moves on when a new generation comes out, and I recently did that again when I got X/Y for Christmas. However, if I get bored I sometimes find time to play my older games. Are there any features of DPPt that you miss because they're absent from the recent releases? Definitely most of the Poketch features for the same reasons as Blade/Lilith said. A lot of the apps were quite helpful imo. |
DPPT are my third favourite games right behind RSE and XY respectively. I've always got time to replay Platinum and I just love pretty much everything about the Sinnoh Region. There's not really much I miss about the games, they're just up there with some of the best IMO.
|
I don't remember exactly why, but after playing through them, Diamond and Pearl became my favorite games. I can't really explain it, I just really liked the feel of it and the music and a whole bunch of stuff. I still remember climbing Mt. Coronet in the middle of that epic snowstorm (and epic music) and just thinking "A game can't get better than this!!1"
If you haven't noticed, a lot of my favorite Pokemon, if not most of them, are from DP. Garchomp, Lucario, Magnezone, Toxicroak, and Gliscor are just a few of them. I hadn't enjoyed a Pokemon game as much as I did for these ones before. As for the features, the only thing I want to return is the Underground. It was a lot of fun playing with friends, or even just digging for fossils at times. |
I miss the undergroud :( I spent a lot of time in there. I didn't really like the games in general though. I can't really tell why, but I just didn't like them too much. I do, however, use a lot of Sinnoh pokemon in my battling teams.
|
Well, DPPT Was my first generation, so I would miss alot of things. But what I do miss is Distortion World, beacause playing a 2.5D game in a 3D Style was amzing! The waterfalls were awesome, and Giratinas form was great!
|
The Vs. Seeker. I don't understand why they never re-used it after D/P/Pt and instead chose sub-par replacements.
|
I miss playing.. it's just so hard to go back to DS games after having seen these new 3D models of X/Y. From the fourth gen games I miss the Poketch the most for sure; so many useful apps! They really helped me push me along and there were options for pretty much anything.
|
I miss the Sky Pillar. Going up Mt. Coronet was amazing!
Also, about the Vs. Seeker, I really have no idea why they got rid of it in Platinum either. In my opinion, it was a very reasonable way to train your Pokémon. |
I miss having the ability to rematch trainers in-game. If we're including HG/SS, I miss having my Sneasel follow me around. And, as much as I dislike Sinnoh, I think Platinum had one of the best regional 'dexes out there.
I also miss the ability to get a Gligar early in the game. |
The music cuz to me D/P/PT were the last games to feature a really good soundtrack. I also miss the honey trees. I just liked them for some reason lol.
|

These games where masterpieces. This is my favorite generation in terms of Pokémon design, so I miss encountering all of the Shinx, Kricketot, and Starly right off the bat, and then better Pokémon later. I miss the new evolutions. I even miss the contests. The number one thing I miss about these games would be the wide variety of legendaries that could be captured. These games were full of legendaries to get, many after the game was completed.
|
Aw man, Pearl back in the day was AMAZING! 8D
So many legends in the post game to hunt down.... trainers to rebattle... the Poketch... CONTESTS. And breeding things to trade online and over the GTS... and of course, the Casino! sad that we'll probably never see it again... >^< |
I love things about Platinum that there isnt in other games.. I restarted the game years ago but have not gotten the chance to replay it! Pearl was my firsrt ds game i had ever gotten so it felt so cool to play through gen 4 on pearl with Shinx and my Piplup, and exploring a new world for the first time since emerald. i miss that adventurous feeling and i dont get that anymore when i play the newer games!
|
I missed only one thing in D\P\Pt. If it was a third person game. A little more graphiced and more well featured.
|
I miss the feel to these games overall. Platinum still holds the position of my all-time fave Pokemon game. '09 was such a fun year largely because of all the fun I had Wifi battling and getting into EVing and competitive play for the first time. I fondly recall the late nights sitting in the Wifi room, chillin' to the relaxing tune of the Night variant of the PC theme waiting for friends to join, seeing that room get bigger and bigger as I met and added more friends.
The community was so big back then; they were everywhere. Back when YouTube didn't totally suck, there were people all over there that you could meet and trade/battle with. The online battle frontier is something that 6th gen needs badly. 5th gen just didn't have near the same charm to it, the online felt like such a night-and-day difference. |
The thing I miss from D/P/PL is the contests
|
I miss going underground and digging for shards, stones, fossils and that sort of thing. I could waste hours at a time down there.
|
miss the underground, saved me numerous times for evo stones, as well as the music track (Sendoff spring track gave me chills). also daimond was my first pokemon game, so im kind of attached to this generation
|
While Diamond and Pearl had some issues, they're still memorable because they introduced Wi-Fi and online trading/battling, so I definitely can't say they're nothing.
Platinum, with the Battle Frontier, its awesome variety and plenty of fun battles throughout the main story, and Dawn's snowy outfit, are definitely things i'll remember it for. :) |
I, for one, miss the time period of Gen 4 (2006-2010). Only a few years ago, but still some good times. It was a very good part of my life: Red Sox winning the World Series, Celtics winning a Championship, Patriots going >18-1. However off-topic this is, I just wanted to share it.
Wifi Battling became my favorite thing to do. I'd assemble my team and fight randoms from an internet chatroom. There was no better feeling than defeating someone online!!! I also loved the Battle Tower, though I prefer the Gen 3 Battle Frontier (Thank you Platinum for bringing the Frontier back!). I almost forgot, the GTS was awesome! It also gave me my competitive team. I was so excited for Platinum that I bought it in Japanese off EBay (Well worth it). I loved the revived Day/Night System, the different soundtracks to accomodate for Day and Night, and the upgraded overworld graphics. Gen 4 had some of my favorite Pokemon overall (Weavile, Azelf, Porygon-Z)and gave some much-needed evolutions (Mismagius, Probopass, PoryZ again, Gliscor) which gave some usage to otherwise forgettable Pokemon. There are some aspects to Gen 4 that I don't miss, but overall I liked it very much. There's no bad generation for Pokemon. |
I miss the soundtrack and the overall feel of the game. I still remember guessing what the Gen 4 English names were going to be.
|
The VS. Seeker. I loved rematching people and rebattling their leveled-up team!
|
I miss HGSS a lot more than the Sinnoh games. Although a lot of the interface changes it brought are now present in X & Y. (Pokedex layout for example)
I don't really have the strongest "bond" with the Sinnoh region. |
Oh, how do I miss the fossil and treasure digging, build your "secret base" in the Sinnoh Undergroud to fill it with awesome stuff, and how could I forget about the nice challenges to get the legendaries such as the Distortion World (platinum)?
I really missed the Pokeradar too, until it returned in Gen.6 to piss you off most of the time, but still, yay! The shiny hunt continues once more! |
I still play them sometimes, for getting pokemons to generation V. So I can get them on my pokebank :)
|
The OST, mostly, especially earlygame. I lived tracks like Route 1, Sandgem, and Jubilife. They just perfectly described the tone of the game. Back animations were cool, too.
|
2 things I miss about this gen: The Underground and Game Corner. I could spend a long time in the Underground looking for shards, stones and plates. The Game Corner in gen 4 was the best by far. There was never a time where my coins were reduced to zero.
|
Diamond and Pearl were my first Pokémon games (if you only count the main additions - I also had Pokémon Ranger). So, Sinnoh will always have a place in my heart that only it can fill.
The story was actually the thing I miss because it was pretty in-depth if you thought about it and talked to all the NPC's. Cyrus actually had a family and everything that he abandoned on a search for power. Then, the whole thing with Charon and Rotom was memorable. Team Galactic also seemed threatening (unlike other antagonists). I dunno. More recent games seem to throw out dull storylines with evil groups that are barely worthy of the title "thugs". |
Pokeradar & Poketech I want that stuff back I wonder why they took that stuff out.
|
^ They brought the Pokeradar back, actually.
I am actually hard pressed to think of something I want to return from DPPt...so I looked at other posts and some of you mentioned the Vs. Seeker and I would definitely agree with that. One of my favorite items in Pokemon, honestly. It makes grinding and such much easier and I don't understand why it hasn't been brought back. Of course, it started in gen III but...it's all I could think of. And some Poketch apps were cool. I liked being able to check friendship and keep tabs on my team in the bottom screen. |
The Distortion World.
It was an extremely unique place to me, how it was a puzzling and mysterious area, that had an odd effect on the Legendary Pokemon known as Giratina. I loved the feel of the area. Ominous, unknown, leaving you wanting to delve into it more, to both find the Pokemon that awaits, and to just find out more about this odd area. |
I miss the party screen of the Poketch. I know that's a really specific thing, but I do a lot of item farming, and it was very convenient to just touch the screen to see if any of my Linoone had activated Pickup after the last battle.
|
I miss the "VS Seeker" and the Stark Mountain theme - it was so funky. The music was awesome in 4th Gen !
|
I don't miss playing them or anything about them. Gen 4 is without a doubt my least favorite. So slow, so bland. If anything, I miss contests, I actually really enjoy them.
|
The casino I liked that place the games now (voltorb flip was the one I played) are waaaaay harder
|
I lost pearl and traded in diamond without quite completing them, and recently have really wanted to play them again, therefore I went on to Amazon yesterday and Diamond should be with me tomorrow to thursday. I miss so much of those two games and can't wait to start playing again :)
|
I miss that little mansion you got at the end of Platinum. I don't remember if it was just Platinum or all three, but I liked how people like Dawn and Gym Leaders would come visit when you put up certain furniture. I was hoping that came back in X/Y. But nope, instead we get a Battle Chateau and a Battle Maison.
|
What I miss from Diamond Pearl and Platinum?
Diamond Pearl and Platinum, that's what. Oh everything was just so great, the Villa, Super Contests, Amity Square, Plot, what was imo the best Core Series Music ever, Underground, Barry/Cedric :3, Battle Frontier (esp. The ones Pt introduced), Morning/Day/Night Pokémon and Music differences, Game Corner, Pokétch, VS. Seeker, SINNOH. Also Platinum is tied as my favourite Pokémon Game alongside Conquest and PMD BRT and PMD EoS so ;p |
