HeartGold or SoulSilver?
In 2010 a pair of remakes for Gold and Silver were released, respectively named HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Which one of the two games do you prefer, and why? Do you think that they games were feature-rich, or lacking any thereof? What should they have kept from G/S/C that they ended up slashing? |
I prefer HeartGold, mainly because it was the one I bought out of the two when they were released, and because I had owned Pokemon Gold as a kid. So in summary, I prefer HeartGold for nostalgic reasons.
Also, I added a poll to this thread because wynaut? |
Despite being one who never played the originals, I voted SoulSilver because at the time, my brother got HeartGold so it was fitting I got the opposite version. He sadly retired from Pokemon afterwards but I was glad I picked SoulSilver because it had the version exclusives I liked better, and I'm more of a Lugia person than a Ho-Oh person in general.
HeartGold, it was the third game I played in the Nintendo DS.
HeartGold had Growlithe, Arcanine, Kyogre, Gliscor and you'd get Ho-oh first. Aside from the version exclusives, I played Gold before Silver, mainly because I wasn't interested in the color Silver (hah lol). And besides I'm not a fan of Lugia. |
I always thought Gold> Silver, except in the days when i really wanted Ledian.
I prefer HeartGold for unknown reasons, but I owned both. I used HG as my main game and SS as my trial and error game for my action replay. |
Heartgold because it has Growlithe. Hands down. Really though, there's not much difference besides version exclusives. I like the Pokemon HG has to offer more so that's why I went with it. :p
My sister got HG, so I got SS. I liked the version exclusives more, and I prefer Lugia more than Ho-oh.
I wound up buying HeartGold because of Ho-oh. I remember looking up the differences and really, there weren't that many that really changed my mind.
Even though I got Soulsilver first I prefer Heartgold because it has better version only pokemon.
HeartGold because Ho-Oh is one of my very favorite legendaries. Totally awesome design.. and gold > silver anyday. :D
Soulsilver because Lugia>Ho-oh in my opinion... At least, the design. Stat-wise I prefer Ho-oh.
I had both games, but personally, I preferred SoulSilver more. Vulpix was exclusive to this game, which is my most favorite Pokémon. SoulSilver had access to Skarmory as well, which is also my favorite. Also, Pokémon Silver was my first ever second-generation game, sooo… there's that. xD"
Though I played Silver more as a child and have fond memories of doing so, I got HeartGold first because I wanted a Growlithe on my team. And I have one, so it all works out.
I picked HeartGold because I like Ho-Oh, it's one of my fave Legendary Pokémon.
I vote both. They are equal in their own way. I love HG just as much as SS, and Ho-Oh and Lugia are equally as beloved by me. Ultimately, it doesn't matter.
I actually love both HG and SS. But in this case, I will got for SS because I do prefer Lugia x)
I choose SoulSilver because an old friend of mine gave me years ago Silver and i enjoyed the game really much. And oww i am more a Lugia person.
Sorry for my bad English. |
HeartGold of course!
There are three reasons why I like HeartGold better, let’s discuss about it shall we? No. 1, COLOR: Despite liking the color SILVER right now, I’ve always been a better fan of the color GOLD. No. 2, EXCLUSIVES: I like majority of HeartGold’s exclusives than SoulSilver. It’s as simple as that. Last but not least, No. 3, VERSION MASCOT: I like Ho-oh better than Lugia. Ho-oh is like, more offensive than Lugia and it has an impressive Attack stat, to me at least. |
Gold was my first gen2 game, so I'm going with heart gold.
Soul Silver for aesthetic reasons because Lugia is one my favorite Pokemon.
Soul Silver! I have fond memories of playing Pokemon Silver back when I was a kid. Loved it a ton, and I played it a lot, too. I can't remember how many times I've beaten it, haha.
I guess it's nostalgia that made me like it more. That, and I also prefer Lugia's design to Ho-Oh's. :> |
I used to have both of them, but recently i rebought SoulSilver. I like SoulSilver better because I have always loved Lugia way more than Ho-Oh, and because as a kid i had several level 100 pokemon and on gold i did not.
HeartGold is my favorite, mainly just because I prefer Ho-oh over Lugia. But the reason I bought it was because I played Silver when I was younger, and I wanted to try the other version.
Soul Silver based soley on the fact that my brother got heart gold even though he quit pokemon shortly after :/ just wished I could pokebank with soul silver
Soul Silver for me, I originally chose Pokémon Silver back in 1999 when those games were first release.. so for obvious reasions I chose SS.
SoulSilver all the way! I am playing it at the moment, I love Johto league and Johto starters my fav of course Cindaquil then Chicorita and at the end Totodile. I like story with Egg and that you have Togepi and Lugia is pretty cool! Plus would love to try out a pokewalker but they cost like 15-20 pound on its own :( i might buy it anyway in near future ^^
SoulSilver becayse i like Lugia better than HO-oh
SoulSilver, because the fact it has Lugia as the principal mascot. But in terms of gameplay, both games are mostly the same except for different Pokémon to catch in the wild.
SoulSilver! I much prefer Lugia and I gotta have my Ninetales, so it was really the only option for me. :P
SS, just because my first game was Silver rather than Gold, haha. Not much difference between the two that I'd care much (heck, you can get both legends), but I do like Lugia more than Ho-oh.
Heartgold cause i think it has more facilites and More feature and better designed Maps then Soul silver.
I gotta go with SoulSilver. It had better version exclusives, Lugia earlier in the game and I got Silver when I was little so I guess nostalgia counts too lol.
I played Silver, so I had to go for Soulsilver, just to buy a DS version of Silver. I prefer the exclusives in SS over HG. Lanturn and Skarmory are only available in SS.
This is a tough decision for me. I've played and loved both versions. I do have preference of Lugia over Ho-oh, but HG also made me love Ho-oh a lot more than I used to, so it's a very close match. Which version has Growlithe, though? HG? Okay, I'll go with that.
I like SoulSilver more only because it's the one I played. xD I like Lugia more than Ho-Oh anyway. :3 But if I could, I would play HeartGold.
I played Gold as a child but voted SS on the poll because that's the one I own. I would have bought HG but I was buying used and every place I looked only had SS.
Soul Silver. Because Lugia.
Soul silver. :) I like cool colors and water. So it was purely aesthetic.
I prefer Soul Silver, just because I like Lugia more than Ho-oh.
I had Gold growing up, so even though I didn't really get a choice of the two games when I got it, I still would've went with HeartGold either way for the continuity. I actually do like some of the SS exclusives better, and I prefer Lugia, but at least Lugia shows up at a higher level in HG for a tougher battle!
I picked HG version purely because I had Gold when I was a kid instead of Silver. I could easily say it's because I prefer Ho-Oh (which I do) but you get both of them in both games anyway so it doesn't matter. The only real difference is the version exclusives like Growlithe or Vulpix for example.
im playing through soul silver again now. I forgot how much more difficult this game was than the newer games
I went for SoulSilver purely due to having the original Silver game first, it just seemed the natural thing to do. Also Lugia still remains my favourite out of the two mascots but still should've been water/flying type.
I never had Gold or Silver as games, but we do have Crystal. I went with Heart Gold while my brother went with Soul Silver. The reason why I picked Heart Gold is because one of my friends at the time has the original Gold. Oh, and Ho-oh looks better in the game than it originally did in its predecessor.
SoulSilver for life mang. I prefer the version-exclusives and I like silver jewelry better than gold anyway. I like the look of Lugia better, too, but I like Ho-oh's typing more.
Soul Silver for me. I like them both equally but I bought Soul Silver first so I thought that I might as well choose it!
I've played both; I had HeartGold for a while, but I somehow managed to lose it, so I got SoulSilver as a replacement. After having both, I have to say, I prefer HeartGold -- getting through Bell Tower was a lot less tedious than getting through Whirl Islands, if only because you need no HMs to go through Bell Tower. Yes... In fact, my first time ever even bothering with the Whirl Islands was with SoulSilver, I never even caught Lugia on my own in HeartGold. XD (I really hate caves, okay)
I went with SoulSilver becuase I really liked Lugia and I still do. And just look at it a lot of blue -> water and I just like water pokemon :D
I went with Soul Silver, to me Lugia looks a lot cooler than Ho-Oh, so it was personal preference.
i picked heart gold for the sole reason that it was bellsprout instead of oddish at newbie areas
SoulSilver due to having better version exclusive Pokémon and I just liked the name "SoulSilver" better.
Originally I bought SoulSilver, because Lugia is one of my favorite legendaries. I ended buying HeartGold, later, and passed my SS onto a kid I babysit every now and then. I like HG better, because of Growlithe pretty much. I never used it, but I like Caterpie better than Weedle, as well.
Back when G/S came out, I had Gold, just because I thought Ho-oh was awesome and mysterious (I was 10). However I ended up buying SS when it was released because there were no HG left and I really just wanted to play the game. Now I'm so glad I bought SS, mainly because of Skarmory and Vulpix. I've also come to admire Lugia a lot more than Ho-oh, because of it's simple yet beautiful design.
Pokémon Gold was my first Pokémon game, and I have very fond memories of it. My best would be the Growlithe I trained to lvl 100(Nope, not Arcanine, haha!)
I've been recently looking around for HG as I want to replay it; but the games are getting really expensive here(Sweden), and I've only managed to find SS... I bought SS a while ago, but the game was all screwed up(freezing every 5 minute), so I just bought another one last weekend. I really hoe this one'll be better(though, I'm not sure as the DS didn't recognise the game at first...) |
For me the best it's "obviously" HeartGold, for a simple reason, Ho-Oh *W*. No seriously, I don't see the difference between these twice version but, I prefer Heartgold for Ho-Oh, it is a little difference but it has his importance ! |
Soul Silver for me. I love love Silver back in the day. So Soul Silver for me.
Funnily I think my favourite would be Heart Gold since Ho-oh is my favourite legendary.
However I actually bought Soul Silver because I got the original Pokemon Gold. (I voted Heart Gold) |
I have bot But I like HearthGold the most.
Probs becouse I got gold first back in the day's ;) |
I bought HG because I figured most of my friends would have SS and I would complement their pokedexes. I was right, too.
Soul Silver, mainly for Lugia. But, it made sense to me to name my rival "Silver" in Soul Silver.
I choose my verision, depending on the exclusive legendary :L
And of dat, I chose Silver. I never fancied Ho-Oh dat much tbh :/. To me, Lugia is way more superior ^^ |
I prefer HeartGold over SoulSilver I guess its because Ho-oh reminds me of the Rainbow Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh and at the time I was running a deck with the Rainbow Dark Dragon in it. But that's besides the point so anyway yeah HeartGold for me.
Of the two, Heart Gold is my main game. I like its exclusives, including Ho-Oh, more, and it just stuck with me when I got it new at GameStop not long after release.
Soul Silver I do enjoy as well, I got that used a year after I got Heart Gold, however. That one I mostly use for fun playthroughs (like challenge runs). |
I prefer SoulSilver; it's the version I picked for my main playthroughs and I just prefer Lugia and the exclusives it offers. Contradictorily, I have two copies of HeartGold..
HeartGold all the way for me!! Not only do i prefer Ho-Oh to Lugia, but here is a small selection of the awesome HG exclusive Mons:
Primeape, Arcanine, Donphan, Gliscor, Claydol, Kyogre... |
When Heartgold and Soulsilver were new, I went for the second of the pair. I have always liked Lugia more than Ho-oh. Heartgold interested me less than Soulsilver interested me.
I bought Soul Silver first and played the hell out of that game back in 2010 when it came out. I have Heartgold too, I'm actually playing it now, but I didn't play it as much/get as far as I did in SS, so i'll go with Soul Silver here, for now. But I like Ho-Oh as a Pokemon more than I like Lugia, I and prefer some of HG's version exclusives to SS's.
I play on HeartGold more because you can get the Life Orb before the Elite Four.
HeartGold, because I like Ho-oh's design better than Lugia's and it also had Kyogre which was the first legendary I fought in my life. Aside from that my brother wanted SoulSilver so I got HeartGold.
I prefer Pokemon heart gold as I love pokes like phanpy
Heartgold, because Ho-oh is my favorite legendary. :p
I got both games. But I bought Soul Silver first, OMG I remember, I really wanted to get the games on release date, and the Heart Gold copies were all pulled back fom the stores in The Netherlands because there was something wrong with the games (there was a bug, you didn't get a title screen and you could not save or access your saved file)... So the release date was delayed... :\
Anyway, got Soul Silver first, I was hooked, and bought Heart Gold as soon those copies were fixed and released again :3 |
I can't choose. :( I like both the version mascots and the other version exclusives, I either like both or feel indifferent about them. So like...I just can't choose, honestly. HGSS, as well as the original Gold and Silver, are the only paired games I actually don't have a preference on. I'm totally fine with either.
I chose HG mostly because it contained two of my all-time favorite exclusives: Mantine and Sandslash. Couldn't go without 'em. I like Lugia more than Ho-oh, but nothing stopped me from going to Whirl Islands later on anyway.
I hate the whirl islands, but the reason I chose HG is because Gold was always my favorite of the three. Crystal was a very close second, but the way you got Ho-oh aggravated me.
I prefer HeartGold because I played the heck out of Gold a while ago, and in my opinion HeartGold had better exclusives like Arcanine and Ariados. I'd rather Ariados over Ledian any day :p
also, Ho-Oh's a really cool legendary, being a rainbow bird. That theme though. Yeeeees. Lugia's still awesome, but Ho-oh's just that inch on top. |
HeartGold for Ho-oh. The scene where Ho-oh flies down to battle you and the ritual that the Kimono Girls perform to summon it all go together so well.
Plus, Growlithe. |
Bought SoulSilver for Lugia, but Spinarak is so cute ;__; I was honestly torn for a while. Ended up trading with my friend to eventually have Ariados on my team. Ledian is still a pretty cool Pokemon, though, so that and my preference of Lugia over Ho-Oh were the main reasons I decided on SS.
I prefer HeartGold, but honestly like Lugia more than Ho-Oh. (Though I still like both.) Gold is something I've always liked better than silver. Often, I opt for gold jewelry instead. (Funnily enough though, my first game was Silver because it came in a pack with a significantly less ugly Gameboy than Gold.)
Still, HG has Growlithe and Arcanine, and they were once my favorite Pokemon of all time. Of course, SS doesn't lag too far behind with Vulpix and Ninetales, who were also former favorites of mine. Still, I preferred using the former many times, so I went with HG anyway. |
i think for a lot of people its heart gold. because in the first episode of pokemon ash sees ho-oh flying across the rainbow so i think you feel a bit of a connection with ho-oh, this probably only refers to people born before 94
Quote:
Had to point that out xD |
that is a good point but at the point of him seeing ho-oh, it didn't even exist in the world it was barely even legend you know? so yes riding lugia was cool but witnessing a pokemon such as ho-oh that didn't even exist at the time and being the first episode the connection would still have to be stronger with ho-oh,(for me anyways) and in my opinion lugia looks cool but ho-oh has so much more going on, its like looking at a fashion model for Old Navy then looking at a victorias secret model haha
