Does anyone have Crystal Version?

My first pokemon game ever was crystal version. I still have it albeit the battery doesnt work and the sticker is missing. My friend recently told me crystal version was rare and I thought about it... the only real copy ive seen is my own.

Do any of y'all have crystal version? How rare is it?

SaniOKh December 26th, 2013 1:33 PM

Crystal is rare? Didn't it sell like hot cakes?

I still have mine (and I changed the battery last year, so it's fully functional again :) ).

Pinta77 December 26th, 2013 11:32 PM

I work at mcdonalds. Hotcakes sell very well :P

I dont know ive never done any research on it but my friend said it's the rarest of the main series pokemon games. Not sure if its true or not. Maybe I should look into it.

Captain Gizmo December 27th, 2013 10:39 AM

I don't think Crystal is that rare. It sold very well, probably depending where you live it's harder to get. But imo, I think Emerald is now more valuable than Crystal.

LyokoGirl5000 December 29th, 2013 2:00 PM

I have Crystal. It's my favorite of the three. I actually had Silver first, but my brother dropped it in the toilet, so we got a used Crystal instead. The battery on Crystal lasted almost eight years and I got it replaced when the battery started showing signs of dying. I have my Crystal back along with Gold and two Silvers [one doesn't work] and now I have my own Miltank.

I also have my old Pokemon from Crystal in a Stadium 2 box until I get enough Pokemon to withdraw them.

Crystal was the best of Gen II!

...Didn't Crystal sell a lot of copies? I think it seems rare now because it's old and not being produced anymore.

Pinta77 December 30th, 2013 12:58 AM

Dropping a game cartridge in the toilet shouldnt break it... I dont think. Did you try drying it off?

Minuy600 December 30th, 2013 7:38 AM

I have the game, it's a lot of fun.

curiousnathan December 31st, 2013 6:13 PM

Unfortunately, I don't own a copy of Pokemon Crystal. :C

orangeralts21 January 1st, 2014 10:21 AM

I have a Crystal game. My first GBC is as dead as a doornail, and the first game with it. I have re-bought both, though.

By the way, Pinta77, that is one of the best avatar photos, man. Respect.

Well, we dried it off and it started crashing and deleting save data totally at random in the span of a few hours.. The screen would flicker a lot even though Yellow worked fine. My parents thought it would be easier to get a used Crystal than to fix the broken Silver. I was seven so I didn't get much say in it. Got a Crystal out of it, anyway.

Someone dropped my Silver version down the drain and somehow we managed to obtain it, however I wasn't able to successfully save from that point and only always had the New Game or Options.

But yeah I do still have my Crystal version! It must be about 13 years old now but it's still in good working condition.. so I believe.

theoblivinator January 1st, 2014 10:11 PM

I have a Crystal version, though not one I got when I was a kid. I picked it up off of Ebay for $15 I think, and replaced the battery on my own. This was about a year ago. I still have my Gold and Silver versions from when I was a kid though, and replaced the batteries in those as well. They all still work on my ancient GBC, but prefer to play them in my GBA SP because of the lit screen. I still play them from time to time and have ancient link cables to do trade evolutions between cartridges. Sometime I'm thinking about getting a Yellow cartridge and try to complete an old school Pokedex. Basically if I need a douse of nostalgia I bust those out and have a blast doing it.

I don't think I'll ever be able to grow out of GSC.

TwilightBlade January 7th, 2014 2:09 PM

At one point in 2005, I had three Crystals. My twin brother and I each got one for Christmas. My dad found the third game w/ Gameboy on the ground at work (apartment complex). The trainer was in Olivine with Quilava. I finished their game, traded over the Pokemon, and restarted. I grew bored with it, though.

So, I gave the third Crystal to my best friend in middle school. We've separated since, as she didn't go to my high school. She's not one to use Facebook, either.

My Crystal still works, as of July 2013. I don't know what happened to my brother's game.

obZen January 7th, 2014 6:36 PM

I still have my Crystal version (and it actually works :o )
I sadly never beat the Battle Tower, but oh well.
I have all of my Pokemon games in the second drawer, except for X / Y.

Ars Arcanum January 8th, 2014 8:25 PM

Crystal's my favorite and always my go-to for 2nd gen. I just love the animated sprites way too much.

gavynray123 January 8th, 2014 11:57 PM

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! But, sadly, it's battery is dry, awaiting home repair!

theonirvana January 12th, 2014 3:32 AM

i have the crystal version.i changed the battery one month ago and now is playable again.and it is my favourite pokemon game

imafangirltodiefor January 12th, 2014 9:20 AM

I still have my Crystal as well. It still works even after all these years. XD i've never had to change the battery yet. :3

Evening January 12th, 2014 7:05 PM

This sure brings back memories.
I don't have my Crystal cartridge now, sadly...

Sheep January 17th, 2014 5:30 PM

I still have mine! Tried playing it about a year ago and it worked perfectly fine. Hopefully I'll have a GPA SP soon to use it again. :)

CelticsPhan January 18th, 2014 7:26 PM

I have a used copy of Crystal from about 10 years ago. I remember when my GameStop had copies of all the GBC pokemon games. And to think, I could have bought Yellow and escaped $100+ for a copy on EBay.

The battery itself works very well, although I've had my save wiped from it. As it is not acceptable to play Pokemon in my household (I still play emulators in secret), my physical copies are in a cabinet in my room.

I guess I'm pretty lucky because all of my games still work, and have all the original save files from Blue to Platinum with the exception of Crystal.

Puddle January 18th, 2014 7:29 PM

I had Pokemon Silver, not Crystal.

Also, Ask.com states that Pokemon Red is the rarest Pokemon game out there.
Which I got! Booyah!

Hiatus January 19th, 2014 5:58 PM

Mine was lost about six years ago back in 2008. Not sure how I lost it, but it was still in perfect condition, though. The battery was working just fine, and there were no scratches on the cartridge at all. If I didn't lose it, I still would've been playing it, probably. xD"

Well, possible of the main Pokemon games... ignoring Green, anyway, so maybe out of the main English Pokémon games? Gotta say, I'd imagine other spinoff titles to be rarer than that, and certainly Green should be rarer.

Anyways! I have both Silver and Crystal, although the latter isn't legit (part of a 2-in-1 cart with Telefang passed off as a 'Pokémon Diamond'). Silver battery died as well, sadly. =(

She_Delphox January 20th, 2014 5:01 AM

I too have a Crystal version. Still have the Box and manual along with it too, since I'm also a Pokemon/Retro game collector. I do know Crystal wasn't as common as the Gold and Silver versions, I remember seeing it VERY limited here in stores. But that may be so because I live in The Netherlands... I guess the game is not that rare, but not very common either :)
I also have Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 on my Nintendo 64, I play these games very often when I have a few days off xD I still enjoy them! :) Best part is, I can play with my trusted Pokemon from my Crystal cartridge in Pokemon Stadium 2 as well!

You can get the intern save battery replaced somewhere though, so you can play and save again? :3

Sopheria January 20th, 2014 6:09 AM

I have Crystal. I got it when it first came out...it's around my house somewhere. If it ever turns up, I'm glad to know it's a collector's item :)

ObnoxiousOboe January 26th, 2014 9:46 PM

I have Crystal. I guess Crystal can be considered to be somewhat rare, even in used game stores. I actually got mine from a friend who was finished with the game.

whatfield January 27th, 2014 8:38 AM

I've only ever seen one copy of it, personally. Granted, not many people I knew as a kid admitted to playing Pokemon.

ερhεmεяaℓ. January 27th, 2014 9:00 PM

I did own a copy of Crystal, but it went missing somewhere around the house. It's weird to realize how many Pokemon games I've lost throughout the years, and how many copies of each I went through, haha.

Astraea January 29th, 2014 9:06 PM

I do have one! I got it long time after I got gold and silver!

oshawottlover13 February 22nd, 2014 1:13 PM

i have a crystal. i got it for christmas (the one we just had) and i like it better because i like the cartridge, i like Kris, and defiantely the animations. i even changed the battery because when i got it, it stopped saving the next day. but even though i changed the battery, mine won't even turn on. it shows the gameboy *ding* and even the nintendo sign perfectly but won't boot up the game. the screen goes white. im thinking that i left the screw out because it was such a pain getting the screw out so i was like "i'll tape it together" it worked after that but i tried booting it up today and it wont turn on. i started crying and my parents started laughing. they don't understand how since i fixed it and it still wont work, that shatters me. anyone got anything? pointer? tips and tricks? please i really wanna play it,

NotSoSoftKitty February 22nd, 2014 1:38 PM

I still have Crystal and the box it came in.

Olli February 22nd, 2014 7:27 PM

I've never had Crystal myself, however I've watched playthroughs of it, and one of my old friends owned it. I remember being fascinated by the focus on Suicune, since it'd always been my favourite of the trio. I don't remember if that was after I'd caught one in my Silver version, but that'd just always been the case. Apart from a few changes and additions here and there, it isn't too different though, so don't think I'd ever really get it. But that's the case with every third version I guess, haha.

One thing I specifically remember though, was that they'd fixed the cloning glitch. Or at least made it harder to do. Basically, we'd often do battles where we cloned one specific Pokemon to have 6 of them in our party (always did that with my Typhlosion), however my friend wasn't able to do that with her Crystal, so we had to trade them all over to mine and do it from there. hngg effort. So yeahh, I kinda disliked Crystal because of that. Silly kid :D

xxReshiramxx February 22nd, 2014 9:38 PM

Yes I have my Pokemon Crystal Version still. I keep all of my rare games.

Pixel LP February 23rd, 2014 8:28 AM

I never owned Crystal I had Gold, but I dont think its really rare.

Guardian March 2nd, 2014 3:02 AM

I got the game, finally, last month, and yesterday I've changed the battery. I am starting the game today :D

Legobricks March 17th, 2014 5:05 PM

Well, I have all the 8-bit main series games except Gold, but I have Pinball and a GB Printer to make up for that.
Crystal is nice in being the only Pokemon game in a GBC cartridge — rare or not, it's relatively unique. My particular copy seems somewhat remarkable in that the original battery still works.

I'd bet the Japanese Red and Blue are both rarer than Green; practically no one (in the West) ever mentions them or even seems aware of them, so perhaps they're less likely to be sought by collectors, leadng more be discarded.

Dreg March 19th, 2014 4:46 AM

I still have my Pokemon Crystal - But I'm unsure if it still works, still saves or not. Might try it on my Old GBA SP, since I already traded in my GBC years ago.

mangamusicfan March 19th, 2014 1:43 PM

I got al the versions of Gen II.
Crystal whas my least favorite though.

Tox March 19th, 2014 2:08 PM

Yup, I got it for Christmas the year it came out. I played as my sister since it was the first time you could choose a female player character and I had already played as myself in Silver, which had a similar story. It was probably the closest I'd ever gotten to completing the Pokédex and then my cousin overwrited the game and I cried for days. I don't think I've completed the game on that cartridge since, haha.

Belldandy March 20th, 2014 9:40 PM

I sold my Emerald for 5$. I hated Gen III lol

I have a cartridge for both Crystal and Gold. My sister had Silver's cartridge.

Pokemon_Fangirl March 23rd, 2014 12:30 AM

I had a physical copy for about a decade until it stopped saving. I have it on an emulator now.

Gulpin March 23rd, 2014 7:53 AM

I still have my copy of Crystal, and I'm pretty sure the battery is doing fine! I know the batteries on my Gold and Silver are good because I just replaced them.

Guardian March 29th, 2014 4:03 AM

I got it, after searching for it for like half a year. I'm currently playing it :D

MainstreamMew March 29th, 2014 8:41 AM

My first game was Pokemon Blue version but at some point in time I have had a copy of all the American versions of the games pass through my hands at some point. My parents actually bought my Crystal version but I was still young even after having it for a year or so and sold it in order to save up for the Gameboy Advanced SP. It's a bit saddening but right at this moment I currently own Silver Gold Red and Yellow version, so I'm happy.

-Circa- April 2nd, 2014 6:20 PM

Crystal was the first Pokémon game that I ever owned. I had played Red and Gold at my friends house when Gen II came out. Then I saved up to buy my own Gameboy Advance, and I bought one that came with Crystal. I was so happy that they had that deal! I lost that Gameboy and Crystal though. I really wish I could find them, for collective purposes.

boomc April 3rd, 2014 1:49 PM

I had all 3 (G/S/C) and everyone I knew had crystal too

PokemonLeagueChamp April 4th, 2014 2:13 PM

I still have Crystal. Probably doesn't save anymore, but, hey, that's what speedruns are for.
