XY OU Team Help

Hello everyone! So this is my Mega Gardevoir OU team and while I'm usually able to put up a good fight with it I definitely think it could use some work, so any suggestions would be welcome. Obviously the main point of this team is powering up Gardevoir and get her sweeping. With that said, on to the team.

Scolipede @ Leftovers
Ability: Speed Boost
248 HP/ 208 SpD/ 52 Spe
Nature: Jolly
-Iron Defense
-Baton Pass
-Substitute
-Protect

Scolipede is my Baton Passer who's crucial in helping Gardevoir sweep. Iron defense is used over spikes to boost her terrible defense and is also useful for occasionally giving Gliscor an extra buff. Swords Dance is mainly for himself since with it he can become a decent set up sweeper, but like Iron Defense it can be a great way to turn Gliscor or Tyranitar into a semi sweeper/ wall. All in all I find him to be vital to the team's success, I just wish he was somewhat less frail as most hits are able to bring him down to one HP pretty easily.

Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Pixilate
Nature: Modest
252 SpA/ 252 Spd/ 4 HP
-Moonblast
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Calm Mind

Gardevoir is my special sweeper and the main star of my team. Her incredible typing lets me switch her in on almost any fighting type and most dragons depending on the situation. I went for Modest in favor of more power as I mentioned earlier that her only decent speed stat can be boosted by Scolipede. The only thing about her that concerns me is her defense and hp, as even with an iron defense or two she still succumbs to neutral physical attacks. I've found out the hard way that on her own Gardevoir can either be dead weight or my opponents worst nightmare but to me she's often worth the risk. Seeing as how this team is supposed to support her changes to her moveset or ideas on how to better support her would be great.

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Nature: Impish
244 HP/ 252 Def/ 12 Spe
-Taunt
-Roost
-Earthquake
-Toxic

Gliscor is my incredibly reliable physical wall. Thanks to his resistance and poison heal, he can take on poison types that would give Gardevoir trouble, as well as steel and heavy hitting fighting types that would give Tyranitar a hard time. Speaking of which, he forms a pretty defensive defensive core with Tyranitar, though a big water weakness (made only worse by Talonflame) can really cause me to struggle against the likes of Mega Blastoise and Clawitzer. Aegislash who lack Shadowball however have no chance against Gliscor, and I really appreciate that contribution. If removing Gliscor is necessary I'll do it but I'd rather have Tyranitar or Talonflame go first.

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Calm
252 HP/ 32 Def/ 224 SpD
-Scald
-Rapid Spin
-Toxic Spikes/Toxic
-Protect

As suggested I gave Tentacruel a try and he didn't disappoint. He's replaced Tyranitar as my special sponge and forms a pretty decent defensive core, covering each others weaknesses except for Psychic moves. And to top it off I get a spinner out of the deal which I was sorely missing before. My only problem with Tentacruel is now a much bigger threat than before as with Thick Fat even Talonflame is unable to bring him down. It's a risk worth taking though as Tentacruel does its job and does it well. I'm still on the fence on whether I add Toxic or Toxic Spikes to deal with Blissey but I'm leaning towards Toxic.

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
Nature: Adamant
252 Atk/ 92 HP/ 164 Spe
-Flare Blitz
-Brave Bird
-Roost
-U-turn

Oh Talonflame, how torn I am over you. Talonflame is, one one hand, an incredibly powerful revenge killer and has actually taken down over half a team by himself on occasion. What he doesn't ko, he leaves a giant dent in thanks to that choice banded attack stat. However, the fact that his best moves cause recoil, he has poor bulk to begin with, and again, he gives me my third water weakness. Unfortunately the cons seem to outweigh the pros in this case but I've tried multiple times thinking of a good physical sweeper/revenge killer I could use in his place but I'm coming up empty on what could possibly do the job as well as he does.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Nature: Relaxed
252 HP/ 48 Def/ 208 SpD
-Stealth Rock
-Gyro Ball
-Leech Seed
-Power Whip

Ferrothorn more often than not seems to be dead weight on my team. Maybe I'm just not using him right but he usually is the first to faint on my team. Sure he can take somewhat of a beating but his lack of a reliable recovery move and how status moves cripple him really hurt his potential in my opinion. Granted he's the only thing stopping Azumarill from sweeping my team but even with that he has a hard time as she usually has Superpower. Other Water types I would rely on him for like Clawitzer and Blastoise carry Aura Sphere which is a one way ticket. On the positive side he can also set up Stealth Rocks which are a huge thorn in Charizard and Talonflame's sides while helping Gardevoir sweep the oponent's team. Maybe a different ev spread would make him more effective?

The biggest problems for this team are powerful water types like Azumarill and Rotom as well as set up sweepers like Lucario. So that's about it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

If you want to use Scolipede as a dedicated Baton Passer (which it looks like it is), use this, as it gives it some bulk to live hits. Iron Defense is best off in dedicated Baton Pass teams:
-Swords Dance
-Substitute
-Protect
-Baton Pass
Nature: Timid
EVs: 248 HP/208 SDef/52 Spe
Item: Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost

Scolipede can also be played as an offensive lead:
-Spikes/Toxic Spikes
-Megahorn
-Swords Dance/Toxic Spikes
-Baton Pass/Earthquake/Rock Slide
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Item: Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost

Pixilate doesn't affect moves that are already Fairy type, so Hyper Voice is the better fit over Moonblast. If you want to use Moonblast, use regular Gardevoir, as Pixilate is useless otherwise.

Assault Vest prevents Tyranitar from using status moves like Stealth Rock, so if you use Assault Vest, use Fire Blast. If you want to use Stealth Rock, use Leftovers.

Talonflame should use 48 HP/252 Atk/208 Spe to let it outspeed Jolly/Timid base 120 Speed Pokemon.

What's the point of Gliscor having an Impish nature when its Defense isn't invested in at all? Move the Attack EVs into Defense.

That was I typo on my part, Gliscor's evs should be in his defense. Thanks for catching that.

You don't really have to have Tyranitar on the team. If you need a special sponge, another good idea would be Goodra:

-Goodra w/Assault Vest
Nature: Modest
Ability: Gooey/Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.Attack, 4 Defense
Moves: Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Sludge Bomb

And if you need something to deal with Gengar (and bulky waters), there's Tentacruel:

-Tentacruel w/Black Sludge
Nature: Timid
Ability: whatever
EVs: 248 HP, 244 Defense, 16 Speed
Moves: Rapid Spin, Scald, Toxic, Sludge Bomb

or

Tentacruel w/Black Sludge
Nature: Calm
Ability: anything
EVs: 252 HP, 32 Defense, 224 Sp.Defense
Moves: Rapid Spin, Scald, Toxic, Sludge Bomb

And you even get a spinner outta the deal. And something with good Sp.Defense

I don't know, Tyranitar takes care of Talonflame and Gengar who would otherwise tear me apart. Plus I'd still be very Azumarill weak either way. I'll test out Goodra anyway though, see how it does. Hm, I really like the sound of Tentacruel though, thanks for the idea.

blueflameblackdragon December 27th, 2013 12:26 PM

Well I tested out Tentacruel and I decided to use it as my special wall to replace Tyranitar, I'll edit that in a minute. He and Gliscor really do a great job covering each other's bases and Tentacruel actually does a good job standing up to Charizard Y. My only problem now is that I'm still set up sweeper and psychic weak. I'm considering replacing Talonflame for Hydreigon but adding another ice weakness worries me a bit. Any thoughts if Hydreigon or a different Dark type could work?
