Rank the Generations
Hey guys I just want to know how others rank all of the generations in order from best to worst.
Heres mine: 1. Generation IV 2. Generation VI 3. Generation II 4. Generation III 5. Generation I 6. Generation V I absolutly loved all of the Generations other then Gen V. I liked it but I didn't love it What do you guys think? |
Gen 6
Gen 5 Gen 1 Gen 4 Gen 3 Gen 2 I really liked the last two generations more than I liked the original. Fourth came in lower, but it wasn't as horrible as people made it out to be. I didn't have too many likes in the Pokemon then, though some did grow on me. Gen 3 was so lack luster for me. It and Gen 2 are the hardest games for me to play because I get bored of it after about 20 mins. I have hardly any favorites from this gen. Gen 2 was the worst for me. I didn't like the sequel vibe when it first came out. I thought it was the end of Pokemon back when I finished the game, though didn't really care since I was young. I didn't have a lot of love for their remakes and they still take a considerable amount of will power to play. |
a big reason I didn't enjoy Gen V as much was because the Pokemon didn't really click with me. I don't know why....
|
Gen III
Gen II Gen VI Gen V Gen I Gen IV Honestly I really did not like gen 4 for whatever reason, gen 3 was my favorite because it was the generation I started with and everything about it was fantastic in my opinion. |
Gen III/Gen IV
Gen I Gen VI Gen II Gen V So I organized them by ALL the games included in the generation, including remakes. That being said, Gen III had Kanto in color and the Hoenn games (I loved the climate of the region, the Battle Frontier, and diving). I loved Gen IV more for HGSS than DPPt, but Sinnoh also had some of my favorite legendaries and I love playing Pokemon for the mysteries (all those Sinnoh myths were perf). I'll admit, Gen I is only so high because of nostalgia; the gameplay in later generations was superior. Gen VI has been good so far. Gen II pales in comparison to Gen I (like someone else said, it felt like way too much of a sequel) and especially to its remakes imo Nothing stood out to me about Gen V. I can't remember anything about it and I've been meaning to restart my Black version because of that. |
1 - Gen 2
A lot of content, seeing how Kanto changed over the last three years (best post-game ever) , a Pokédex that wasn't imbalanced, and wasn't yet too big to complete. Putting in completely different sprites for most Pokémon in all three versions was a nice touch. Not to mention, my favorite soundtrack in the series (unfortunately, the remakes butchered some of the songs) . It is also one of the three adventures with a Victory Road that I don't hate. On a side note, this generation put in place the template for the future stories that became quite old as time has passed: you see the evil team put stuff in place at different points in your adventure, then, right after you get your seventh badge, the evil team makes its move, most often involving the legendary version mascot (not the case here) you battle them, the team is disbanded, and then the final badge and the Pokémon league are more of an afterthought. We'll see this template over and over again in the future. 2 - Gen 5 Two different and new adventures in one generation, who would have thought? :) While more story-driven than the rest (with the unfortunate side-effect of constant handholding) , it gave us what I consider to be some of the most interesting characters in the series, be it rivals, gym leaders or the evil team. The template that I discussed above, while visibly attempted both times, is not actually used. Also, Black and White versions have the most differences between versions I've seen in Pokémon games (Opelucid City, Black City/White Forest...) . I especially like Black 1 & White 1 for two reasons: completely new Pokémon that, on first playthrough, made me feel like I was discovering the series all over again, which felt really cool, and of course the story, including what I consider to be the best ending in the series. I also liked how the evil team's motivations and goals were a bit more, can I say, realistic in these games? Instead of looking for some Pokémon and use its power to change the world, they manipulate people. Black 2 & White 2 have lots of completely optional areas, which is cool. Also, I like the story that is more classic than in Black & White, but putting it in the context of what happened in the first games IMO really works. They also contain the second Victory Road out of three that I don't hate. 3 - Gen 3 The first generation after the reboot. The games turned me off at first, because not knowing what a regional Pokédex was, I thought they completely threw most of old Pokémon out, but after a friend showed me a complete National Pokédex, I was relieved. While at first I was disappointed by not being able to go to the other regions, upon replay I realized how big Hoenn actually was, so now I don't mind. I also really liked how roles of both evil teams were reversed depending on the version you're playing, and how Emerald managed to combine both versions of the story. 4 - Gen 6 Why so low, you ask? Well, I barely care about the leap to 3D, and while I do like nostalgia, these games really overdid it (reusing the map of Viridian Forest, really?). In terms of story, I recognize that Gen 5 was a tough act to follow, but what we have here is a story that combines the worst of the other stories: constant handholding as seen in Gen 5, characters that give us no reason to care about them (the only ones I did care about that I can think of are Emma and, strangely, Lysandre), the evil team is back to having ridiculous goals, and the template I described above is back in full effect. There's not much exploration to be done here, and the post-game is almost nonexistent. Oh, and the Pokémon Transfer IMO should have been an offline feature. I described in another thread how I think it could have worked while having the hack checker up to date etc, I'm not going to repeat myself here. On a positive note, the graphics are nice to look at, the soundtrack has a few memorable tunes. The Exp Share is a godsend to people like me who hate grinding, and this is also the third adventure where I don't hate the Victory Road. But other than that, Gen 6 is... just there. 5 - Gen 4 While I do recognize that these versions did bring a lot changes and adjustments to the gameplay that I enjoyed, the overall feeling I got from Diamond and Pearl was "Gen 3, part 2", minus the interesting alterations in the story between versions. I also thought the stretch between the second and third badges was painfully long, the very long save times and the painfully slow battle animations were inexcusable, the difficulty wasn't all that well scaled, the requirement to see all the Pokémon in the Regional Dex to unlock the postgame was an incredibly pathetic attempt at making the game longer, and, let's be real here, the legendary Pokémon were ridiculous (creators of time, space and antimatter, and GOD, really?) . Platinum tried to redeem this gen by fixing a lot of these problems (and I really liked what they did with the lighting in some areas, like the caves) , but IMO it was to little too late. Also, a moment I found aggravating in Platinum: you know how I feel about event exclusives, I've been rambling for a while now on how they shouldn't have been included in the National Pokédex at all... well, having to see Manaphy, a Pokémon that can't be caught, in order to proceed was just plain trolling on GF's part. 6 - Gen 1 I understand, this game was the one that started it all, but it aged horribly. A lot of things were wrong with those games: horrible graphics, a completely unbalanced ensemble of Pokémon (Psychic owning everything else, single Special stat), no breeding (a big deal if you're trying to complete the Pokédex) , the bag that holds everything in one pocket and finds itself constantly being filled up... just play the remakes, that's all I'll say. |
1. Gen 4 - Platinum will always for some reason hold a very special place in my heart. To me, it was the best Pokemon game ever made. I don't know why, I don't even have a reason. I just clocked so many hours into it. Heart Gold and Soul Silver were also perfect remakes in my opinion.
2. Gen 6 3. Gen 3 4. Gen 5 5. Gen 2 6. Gen 1 |
In order of how I enjoyed playing through the story:
III > II > V > I > VI > IV In order of Pokemon designs and creativity: II > III > V/VI > IV > I Overall: III > VI > II > V > I > IV I don't hate any generation though, so my rankings aren't really calling any of them terrible, however I do hate Diamond and Pearl, strictly for the speed of the game and lack of variety in Pokemon. I love Platinum though. |
1.G/S/C
2.X/Y 3.D/P/Pt 4.R/B/Y 5.R/S/E 6.B/W G/S/Y was the overall best in terms of story, pokemon design, and playability. It gave you twice as much play time as the others, although half of it was a remake. X/Y is second because it has so many ways to easily train your pokemon, and the graphics are a slight advancement for a handheld pokemon game. D/P/Pt was third because it does have a few nice Pokémon, and the story is quite nice for its time. R/B/Y, while being the first of the games, are not as good as some of it's sequels. The story doesn't give too much detail in the originals, although in that era, a story in a video game was more rare than not. R/S/E did have some neat Pokémon design, but was lackluster in it's story; it felt like it was just thrown together in a week. B/W felt like it was just rushed. The story, the Pokémon... One of the Pokémon was a trash bag. If that doesn't scream rushed, I don't know what does. And to add on to it, the story has lazy writing splattered all over it.. Anyways, all of that is just my opinion. |
Now that I've played X/Y I'll give my thoughts...
1. Gen V (Unova) No-brainer here, 5th Gen is still my fave even after my recent run of X/Y. Main reasons include the fact I loved the main story in this generation, particularly in B/W (although B2/W2's one is good too) and I loved most of the characters and Pokemon of this generation, plus I'm biased because it introduced my fave Pokemon of all time. I managed to play my 5th Gen games for a very long time because I love Unova so much. Plus, I loved how B/W had only new Pokemon until you beat the main story. It was pretty fun in my opinion. 2. Gen VI (Kalos) This generation is just too awesome for words, the 3D graphics are stunning, the Pokemon are really cool and I grew onto them very fast, plus the trainer customization is a nice feature. While I finished the main story of X in only 3 days, I still loved the job Game Freak to make the game graphically amazing. Plus, Pokemon Amie sure is addictive, and I loved the benefits it can give you in battle. Still not enough to knock Gen V off the list, but it's still an awesome generation so play it if you haven't already. 3. Gen IV (Sinnoh) Yeah, I guess you're starting to notice I'm someone who likes newer generations more but it's because I like their Pokemon designs and I do think they get better with every new generation. Sinnoh is quite a beautiful region in its own way, and the starters all gain useful second types when they fully evolve (I know Kalos does the same, but this one did it first) which is definitely a first. The only complaint I had here was that Diamond and Pearl were very slow and had a lack of good Pokemon, but thankfully Platinum fixed that. 4. Gen III (Hoenn) My first generation as far as playing the games goes, I did like this generation Pokemon design-wise but it's kinda hard given the lack of physical-special split. My team was also kinda redundant on my first Ruby playthrough but hehehe I did end up beating the game. Hoenn is very unique but it scored quite low as newer generations came out. Plus, the starters are quite cool. 5. Gen II (Johto) I did play this generation, but only in HG/SS so I'm not sure if it counts, but I still have to say Johto was kinda unimpressing as far as characters and Pokemon go. I often struggled a lot when playing given how annoying some opponents can be. Plus, I never got to play the original Gen II games so yeah that's why it ranked quite low. 6. Gen I (Kanto) Yeah, the original ended up as my least fave, like what I stated about Gen II, I never played the original games of the generation plus most of Kanto's Pokemon never grew on me as much as later generations. And of course, it's overrated. Sorry Kanto fans, it's just that I found the Pokemon not very diverse-looking. |
Here goes:
1. Gen II 2. Gen IV 3. Gen III 4. Gen I 5. Gen V 6. Gen VI |
I was running this through my head the other day and came to this conclusion;
#1 - Generation III (Hoenn) #2 - Generation VI (Kalos) #3 - Generation IV (Sinnoh) #4 - Generation V (Unova) #5 - Generation II (Johto) #6 - Generation I (Kanto) (Favourite - Least Favourite) |
V > VI > III > IV > II > I
B/W to me felt like the most original and creative Pokémon games, with the best storytelling sense to date, and Unova is a very interesting and varied region to explore. X/Y is honestly just as good as B/W, but the relative lack of new pokémon and the flood of nostalgic pokémon make the regional dex seem highly diluted. Kalos is also just a bit awkwardly designed, why no connecting route between Santalune and Camphrier, for example? R/S are beautiful games in a beautiful region with a beautiful batch of pokémon, although the storytelling is a bit awkward and its graphics and gameplay are getting somewhat dated by now... D/P just felt rushed to me...your choice in fire-types were limited to Infernape and Rapidash, half of the pokémon Game Freak created for the generation were inaccessible until the post-game, and the battle speed and surfing are set way too slow, which makes slogging through the game feel like a chore. Cyrus was way too intense of an antagonist for the type of game Pokémon is, and the entire Galactic plot ended up feeling way out of place. I also personally find Sinnoh to be way too large and disorienting to navigate. R/B and G/S both suffer from being way too technically outdated and having little to no plot to them, though G/S barely edges R/B out in both regards. |

For me they are in this order.
1 - R/B/Y - The reason for this is because personally I like the starting set of Pokémon the best, especially the Starters, also they include my favourites like Pidgeot and Charizard. 2 - X/Y - This is up there because it was what I have wanted for Pokémon for years, ever since Pokémon Stadium came out I have wanted something like that with the main gameplay and story elements from the handheld games. 3 - R/S/E - This is third mainly because of the characters being 'cool' in a way. Not to mention Blaziken! 4 - D/P/P - Just really enjoyed the whole story of this, also the change in the battle system, splitting them into physical, special ad other types of attack was great! 5 - G/S/C - I will get some flack for this being as it is many peoples favourites for various reasons, but I personally don't rank it up there. What stopped it from being bottom is the ability to go through both Hoenn and Kanto. 6 - Black/White/Black 2/White 2 - What can anyone say about their least favourite? Not a lot really, just the one I was least pleased with. But altogether I have enjoyed all generations of Pokémon hence why I still follow the games each generation over 15 years later! |
1. Gen 3 because it was the first pokemon game I played
2. Gen 5 because it made me fall in love pokemon again 3. Gen 4 because it gave some cool evolutions to my favorite pokemons and I really liked the story 4. Gen 1 because it is not that good if you compare it to other games. Only good thing about it is the sweet sweet nostalgia 5. Gen 2 because... I dont know, I just didnt like it as much as the others. Its weird because it has the longest post-game an the pokemon were pretty cool. |
1.kanto gen1
2. Johto gen 2 3. KALOS gen6 4. Unova gen5 5 sinnoh gen4 6. Honen gen 3 |
Gen 2
Gen 3 Gen 6 Gen 1 Gen 4 Gen 2 was the best, hands down. It did everything right gameplay-wise, and I got the most enjoyment out of it. And on top of that, it's the only gen where there's not a single Mon I dislike. Gen 3 is a close second. I love how huge Hoenn is--it's like you're never done exploring. I also though the villain story arc was the best. Plus it's the only gen where the legendary Pokemon "felt" legendary. Not sure why, but for some reason I really felt like I was catching a creature of legend. Gen 6 is really good. Great graphics, and lots of stuff to do besides just train Pokemon. I just wish there was more postgame content and Kalos was bigger. Gen 1 of course was the very first, and if I were looking through the nostalgia goggles I'd say it was the best. But, there's nothing good that can be said about it that can't also be said of every subsequent Pokemon game. Gen 4 was ok, but I thought a lot of it was really over the top. DPPt basically made me retire the Pokemon series, but GS/SS brought me back. Gen 5 was also ok. I'm not sure what it is, but I just didn't like it that much. I think part of it is that it was too dark. And the gameplay is reaaally linear, especially for a Pokemon game. I also have mixed feelings about the Pokemon. It has some of my favorites in the whole franchise (e.g. Hydreigon, Haxorus), but also some of my least favorites (e.g. Stunfisk, Palpitoad). |

lets answer this now
Gen 3 Gen 6 Gen 5 Gen 2 Gen 4 Gen 1 |
For me:
06 - I love the new Amie feature, love variety of Pokemon to choose from [X/Y] 05 - loved the generation - 2nd versions that is, loved the story [B2/W2] 02 - Loved the Pokemon following, have not finished my game [HG/SS] 04 - it was OK, just moved a bit slow for me [DPPt] 01 - it was fun, most of my favorite Pokemon that I use where not on it, struggled to make a team [FR/LG] 03 - too much water got lost a lot to the point where I lost interest [RSE] never got a chance to play the originals (RBY or GSC) had to rate them by the 3rd gen and 4th gen remakes Overall I love the 6th generation the most, many of my favorites are catchable, some early. The 5th generation will always have a special place in my heart (many of my favorite Pokemon are introduced in the 5th gen - it was also the first game I bought with my own hard earned money [B2 was my first game], the game was fun to play) |

Going to try put the entire experience into consideration here.. from least to greatest
- Generation 2 - I can mostly narrow it down to one factor. I really did not care for the Art Design in the slightest. Generation 1 was weird and all with their Birds with 3 heads and Tongue Monsters.. but it was kind of established that these creatures existed in some form of Eco-System where they adapted these things for a purpose. When I look at pokemon like Azumarill, and it tells me its some kind of Rabbit.. with a wave pattern and bubbles on it's fur.. its kind of like turning the concept on its head. Its not quite the same thing as before, if that makes any sense. And you only find weird crap like this in Gen 2 Pokemon. The legendary trio are another good example of this. I guess what I'm saying is, its too cartoony looking of all the cartoon critters I've seen.. and not in the good way. - Generation 1 - It's iconic, but it's also the most unbalanced and extremely glitchy if we're talking about the original Generation 1. Psychics killing everything kind of ruins the fun a bit.. And it's not that I'd say the art design is bad, it's got some of my favorites in it.. but its more filled with old redundancies that don't fit in with what Modern Day Pokemon has become.. Kangaskhan babies always hatching with babies of their own in their pouch.. Cubone's apparent endless Orphan-itude.. It was a fun romp, but it wasn't the most thought out.. and generally speaking, thats how first runs usually are. - Generation 5 - It's mostly guilty of one thing that kind of ruins the entire experience with me.. and thats trying to make a Pokemon Story seem epic, and failing miserably at it. I'm a lore guy.. I write my own stories, its one of my passions in life. If you want to create something meaningful and thought provoking, one must first treat their readers and their own story with some amount of respect. Black and White fails to do just that.. and fails HARD at it. I face palm every time N, or Ghetis or Team Plasma show up because they act so ALIEN. I can go on and on about how stupid this game's story is, but I'd be here all day ranting about it like Spoony on Final Fantasy 13.. That being said though, the art design didn't bug me quite as much (Oh noes a Trash Bag and an Ice Cream cone!) and I liked the fact that it featured animated sprites. If this game was a little more self aware at how retarded it was.. it would probably be one of my favorites.. but if I can't stand to listen to it prattle on like it does, then it is what it is. - Generation 3 - To be honest, I don't remember much about this generation, which is probably why I'm putting it here. One of the first things I remembered about generation 3 the first time seeing it was how colorful it was and how much NOT it was like Generation 2.. and I think thats probably why I've taken such a liking to the Art Design. This is what a Pokemon SHOULD look like. That being said, I never finished R/S/E .. and right now I just can't be bothered, so I'll let that slide for now. - Generation 4 - There was a lot of new things in this generation that I liked. Some care was given to some older Pokemon to make them less crappy.. some we weren't really expecting. The art design was passable, the story was interesting enough, and the evil team wasn't as ever present and ridiculous.. well, no more than usual anyway. It did have a lot of filler Pokemon that weren't particularly useful, many of them kind of forgettable. Burmy, I kid you not, is one of many in this generation that I forget ever existed. I'd have to say though, the Legendary guys in this game were some of the most bizarre looking things ever put to paper. But I guess when you're dealing with time and space, you would probably create something completely alien. - Generation 6 - Kind of scratches all the itches. It's a 3d Pokemon game, though the models barely move (hopefully that changes as the games press forward) .. it's got a plethora of back logged old Pokemon from all the previous generations with easy access to your favorites. It's breeding mechanics and EV training mechanics are fleshed out and simple to follow. The story line actually invoked feelings from me, which is a complete first.. a feeling of sympathy every time my rival challenged me and was forced to curb stomp them.. which clearly means they got their act together since Gen 5.. the evil team was hilarious and knew that they were a joke for the most part.. (I only had issue with Team Flare when I had to take them seriously, which was haaarrd) no filler Pokemon, with some hidden gems in Diggersby and Talonflame. Easy access to trade online, a useable GTS .. Totally down with Gen 6. |
I'll probably choose:
Gen III Gen IV Gen VI Gen II Gen V Gen I |
Generation III
Generation IV Generation VI Generation II Generation V Generation I Honestly I absolutely love everything and everything (and did I mention everything?) about both Hoenn and Sinnoh. Hoenn is just my all time favorite region. The Johto remakes were awesome, which gave Generation IV a bonus on the list. Generation VI so far is looking amazing, and if those expected R/S/E remakes come out, that'll be enough to send it to the top of the list. Nothing really grabbed my love in Generation II and Generation I. Let's face it, nobody REALLY liked Generation V. (emphasis on really) for... well only a few reasons to be honest. (mostly because the new Pokémon aren't exactly the best... take Trubbish. It's rubbish in more ways than one.) I'll just stop there. |

Rankings in my opinion:
Generation III Generation IV Generation VI Generation I Generation II Generation V I love every generation, but Black and White was just.. boring when you finish the fourth gym, the post-game is great though. |
Gen 3
Gen 2 Gen 6 Gen 1 Gen 5 Gen 4 Albeit I did grow up with gen 1, 2 and 3, I really really like this new gen even if it doesn't have that many Pokémon. It was hard deciding if I liked Gen 2 or 3 more though, because I think they both have really cool Pokémon and their respective games really brought something to the table. Gen 4 I never liked, too many legendaries and many of the designs are pretty meh. Gen 5 I first didn't like, but I've started to get into it more. It has some of the worst designs and most unappealing Pokémon in any of the gens ever IMO, but I have to say that Oshawott is adorable and the legendaries of gen 5 are REALLY cool.. except the genie trio, ugh. Gen 1 is okay, but it has become pretty stale over the years. Still, they are the original 151, so can't ever go wrong with em. |
Gen III > Gen VI > Gen II > Gen I > Gen V > Gen IV
Since we're talking generations, I'm trying to include the remakes as well in my ranking. Generation three tops the list because Hoenn is my favorite region, and because FRLG are great remakes. Also, the Pokemon introduced in this generation are collectively my favorite. Generation six is next for me. I absolutely love X and Y. The new Pokemon, though few, are high in quality when compared to Gen V, and I honestly can't think of one that I don't like and can't wait to use. Also, the Pokedex in these games seems perfect. It is great having access to older Pokemon that seem almost new when rendered in 3D. Also, Gen VI is also this high because I have high hopes for whatever will come next in this generation! Generation two is my third favorite, because I love Johto and post game Kanto. I enjoy the original GSC more than HGSS because they have higher replay value for me. The levels in the originals don't force me to spend half of my time grinding for Red. Next is Gen I, mainly because RBY are easy and fun to do a quick challenge in, and because it definitely outshines Gen IV and V. Gen V comes next for me. While I enjoy Unova for the most part, it is far to linear to be a realistic and fun region to play in. Although the story in the Unova games is outstanding and fresh, the new Pokemon this generation are just lackluster compared to the Gen VI Pokemon. Sadly, the excess of options in B2/W2 was just too much for me. Gen IV sadly comes in last. While I love Sinnoh, and all of the new Pokemon it offered, these games are just so difficult to play essentially because of the speed. Also, while I love the freshness brought to Johto by HGSS, I still enjoy the originals far better. |
As I have gotton farther in my second White playthrough I have found myself enjoying it a little bit more. So maybe gen V isn't as bad as I thought :p

I need to make my listing here, i'm way overdue for that but haven't really thought about it V_V |
I never played Gen 3 or 4 so I can't comment or rank them. So I will rank the others
1st Place : Gen 2 : This for me was the perfect pokemon. It had plenty to do, challenging opponents, a continuation on Kanto as well as giving the other pokemon types a gym. It did everything right. 2nd Place : Gen 6 : I always said I'd return to the series fully once they went 3D. The sheer success of this gen is why. I always knew it would work well 3rd Place : Gen 1 : It was a good game, just not as memorable as Gen 1 or Gen 6 4th Place : Gen 5 : Out of the gens I have played, this one felt the weakest. It wasn't just one thing. It was the whole design. If you look over the generations, you notice that the designs got weirder, wackier and then just over-the-top. |
Much too lazy at the moment to discuss why, but this is my ranking:
1. Generation III 2. Generation II 3. Generation I 4. Generation VI 5. Generation V 6. Generation IV |

1st. Generation 4: OMG SO MUCH NOSTALGIA!! This was the first pokemon game I played, it was fun, it was easy, and it had some great pokemon.
2nd. Generation 3: Two words. Mud. Kip. 3rd. Generation 6: Mahhh Kelfki bring all da boyz to da yard, and dere liek, so oppp. 4th. Generation 1: Best starters of all time. 5th. Generation 2: Never was a big fan of gen 2, although the remake for the DS was pretty good. Last. Generation 5: Utter complete ****, worst generation by far. All the pokemon were mostly terrible, and dont get me started on ****ing Trubbish and Stunfisk. |
1] Hoenn [Gen III]: I loved this region, the gameplay. It was the start of a beginning for all of pokemon, introduced improved stats, natures, secret bases, and because I had two GBAs; I could link-cable from FireRed to Sapphire. It was great. :D
2] Sinnoh [Gen IV]: Wow, its been sometime since playing these games, I loved them so much though. Expanded gameplay, the introduction of 3D/2D graphic planes, just showing you how the team at Game Freak are really trying to advance the game's dynamics. Plus, Platinum's music track was some of the best, other than Hoenn's trumpets of the elite four. 3] Kanto [Gen I]: Oh, where it all began. Generation I is my third due it is loving retro era gaming. It never gets old for me, it is still fun to play on GameBoy, GBC, and Emulator. Pikachu, LV 100 FOLLOWER! 4] Johto [Gen II]: I guess its mostly like Generation I, Johto was in my views, an expanded version of Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. It really enjoy it though, again new dynamics and such. Its music was fun, the storyline was great. 5] Kalos [Gen VI]: I don't know, the story is fine, music is great, but like this and Generation V, the games just don't stick as well. No disrespecting it, Kalos felt like a mix of regions than its own game. It was actually a large mix of regions and cultures. 6] Unova [Gen V]: I have no idea what to say about Unova. It felt more-less like a time-killer til Pokemon X and Y; Black and White were truly strange entries in the series. Black 2 and White 2 were more solid entries in the series, I guess they wanted to redeem themselves. |
Based on Pokémon design, not on the gameplay which would be stupid. You can't compare a gbc game with a 3ds one. So here it goes:
1. Generation I 2. Generation II 3. Generation III 4. Generation VI 5. Generation V 6. Generation IV I liked the first 3 and the 6th almost equally, 5 was okay and 4 looked really bad imo. |
Gen I
Gen III Gen II Gen IV Gen VI Gen V |
Based on Pokemon Design:
Gen I Gen III Gen VI Gen IV Gen II Gen V Based on Gameplay: Gen III Gen IV Gen I Gen V Gen II Haven't played X/Y yet, so I don't what the games are like. |

1) Gen III
2) Gen V 3) Gen II 4) Gen VI 5) Gen I 6) Gen IV My personal preference. I was absolutely obsessed with the 4th gen games but for some reason looking back it never struck me as anything too special compared to other generations. The third is my top because I loved the new Pokemon and spent hundreds of hours playing alongside my best friend in school. |
Well, in my experience, the first 3 were the best, but I really like the new one, hrm... They're all great so I'll just organize like so:
1. Gen 3 2. Gen 6 3. Gen 1 4. Gen 5 5. Gen 4 6. Gen 2 |
Looking back at all of the gen's, they have all added great aspects to the Pokemon series. Adding New Pokemon, New Types, New Moves, New Abilities, New Graphics, and a new expirence for each new generation
|
Well...
1. Gen IV It has Sinnoh. 'Nuff said. But, well, I love everything from it, except the Chimchar line, I love every single one of the Pokémon introduced here, too :3 The story was the best ever, the music is untoppable, and everything is infinitely above perfect :D 2. Gen III It introduced Surskit. Hoenn is awesome. Music is awesome. Everything is awesome :D 3. Gen VI So. Much. Prettyfullness. I love it all, it's so beautifull ^_^ 4. Gen V Yeah, no. I love the Pokémon, but the Region and Music were kinda lacking. 5. Gen II Bad levelling is bad. 6. Gen I no |
From the top down (no pun intended):
Gen III - Great music; great art style; great post-game; one of the only stories that actually felt like it mattered. Gen II - Admittedly, mostly nostalgia, but overall I find Johto to be laid out very well, and the music is among the best I've heard in 8-bit. Also, Kanto, but it felt like you had free reign of the place. Gen IV - Great, huge region; great music; mediocre story; mostly favorable Pokemon but a few that felt redundant or forced. Gen V - Great story; great villains; good music; decent Pokemon (I especially like that they were all new until post-game); nice visual style in different seasons; very lacking and unfinished-feeling post-game. Gen VI - Kinda forgettable, but nice 3D graphics and great music. Gen I - Glitches and poorly-thought-out design; uncreative creatures. |
