The Nuzlocke Challenge

The Official Nuzlocke Challenge

Rules

  • Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released (or boxed, never to see the light of day again).
  • You may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. (Can be adjusted to ban duplicate captures.)
  • Trading is disallowed, but the reasons following this clause are allowed. Egg trading is okay, same thing with Pokemon that can't have eggs. (optional) Trading simply for the purpose of evolution is perfectly fine.
Optional:
PLEASE NOTE: These are only a few suggestions of optional rules to further increase the difficulty of your challenge. It is perfectly fine to add additional optional rules of your own, so long as they coincide with the main rules of the challenge.
DO NOT submit a new challenge thread that is a variation of the Nuzlocke challenge! Instead just make a note of the optional rules you are using when you sign up.
  • You must nickname all of your Pokemon. (highly recommended)
  • A black out/white is a "game over," even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
  • You must change the battle style to SET.
  • After the first wild Pokémon was caught, you must release your starter.
  • You may not heal outside the use of Pokémon Centres and moves such as Softboiled.
  • You may not heal outside of healing items and moves such as Softboiled.
  • You may not heal outside of battle.
  • You may only have (whichever number you like) Pokémon Centre visit per town.
  • You may not use held items.
  • You may only buy a (whichever number you like) amount of PokéBalls per PokéMart.
  • You may only use PokéBalls.
  • You may not use/catch legendary Pokémon.
  • Make comics of your challenge and have fun! (strongly recommended)
These are the most common ones, but feel free to adjust your challenge to fit you. Use as many optional rules as you like.

Sign-up

Only sign-ups with the first update of your challenge are permitted. If you do not have time to start your challenge right away, wait until you have started to post your sign-up. This is to avoid clutter in the participants list.

I currently have 2 badges worth of progress and only 2 Pokemon left before fighting Burgh, both of which are weak to bugs. So my next post will either be me losing or a badge update. Wish me luck!

Sydian January 6th, 2014 7:53 PM

Just popping in to let everyone know that if you post your sign up without an update, your post will be deleted for not following the rules! You're free to sign up again, but make sure you have some progress to post when you do so. This is one of the most popular challenges, and the OP wants to keep the challenger list less cluttery, and people signing up and never coming back to the challenge really makes a mess of things. So please, make sure you adhere to this rule. This rule only applies to the Nuzlocke Challenge (so far), so bear that in mind.

Thanks for understanding, birds.

Second Update:
Spoiler:

I just woke up without the knowledge of what the heck am I actually doing.

Amnesia aside, I had 6 Pokemon in my team, 1 in the storage, 1 dead (*sniffle*), and 2 badges. Oh well. Since this is so much cliche (with 6 generations, 19 or so main games, and many side games), I somehow already know that my mission is to increase the number of my badges and beat the Champion. Without having myself lose just because my team was wiped out.

So, with that in mind, I began to train them all, especially Lancelot, since he looks like the most recent captured one. With my diligent training, he evolved to Swadloon. (Yay!) Lancelot became more shy after. Oh well.

After that, we entered the Pinwheel Forest and beaten all trainers we could see, including those weird ass thieves in medieval armor. Seems like they were comfortable stealing with those tight-fitting clothes. Anyway, looks like they've stolen some bones from that museum and I was supposed to get them back. Oh well. Duties of the protagonist.

Anyway, when I did get those bones, a guy in robes came (seriously, were they comfortable wearing those around?) and tried to fight me. Then back up came in form of a weird man and a woman. Looks like they were gym leaders. Anyway, those team Plasma thieves retreated and the man (Burgh) went back to his city. Of course, I followed suit.

Crossed the f******* long bridge (and saw some awesome graphics), came to Castelia City, and immediately set myself to beat all trainers in the city and rise above them as the top trainer (and also for training). During that time, Timon evolved. And now, my super HM slave is now complete. When it's time to go to the gym, he was gone. Seems like he needs to deal with some thieves (again?). And the victim this time was..a girl with a blown-up hat. Looks like someone I know. Indeed, she was someone I know. Bianca, why do you get into trouble everytime?

Well, we tracked the thieves along with a girl Burgh apparently knows. Whipped their asses and claimed the stolen Pokemon. Oh, it's a Munna. I challenged the gym afterwards. The gym fell under the might of PorkBarrel (what's with this ridiculous nickname? My, my. But since I PLAYED THIS, I should blame my lack of creativity that time. -_-). What a show off pig.

Well, simply put, I got the badge. I went to Route 4 afterwards only to be challenged by Bianca. WarMachine singlehandledly beaten her team to a pulp. The Battle Maniac. Afterwards came..Cheren. Again, his team was singlehandledly whipped but this time by Sirius. The Dog Star.

Exploring the place, I met..a Darumaka. I don't know what to do with him so what I did was to captured him. Named him Chuckie.

That's enough for now.

Well I beat Burgh but I blacked out on Route 4, so I guess I lost. So I guess take me off the list. I actually have no Pokemon in the box either so there is literally no way for me to continue.

Unfortunately, my DS emulator is being a pain. I'll have to postpone my Platinum Nuzlocke (almost at 2 badges now) until an update EDIT: Platinum Nuzlocke is finished (as of 3/16)!

Until then.... YELLOW NUZLOCKE!!!
RULES:
-No Starters. Sorry Pikachu.
-No Legendaries! In fact, I'll defeat all of the Legendaries as an optional rule.
-Black out = Dead
-No Trades (until after I complete the Nuzlocke of course)
-Nickname ALL Pokemon! After doing some Nuzlockes in the past, I will always nickname.

UPDATE #1
Spoiler:

-My Route 1 encounter was a Pidgey. Better than Rattata and I get my Flyer. I'll call it BRAVEST because it is the bravest bird, and not stupid Talonflame (Sorry)
-Route 20 (Pokemon League) was a Mankey! Really lucky to get one of those. CHOP is his name. Something really simple and easy to bond with.
-Route 5 encounter: Nidoran Female! A Lv.6 too. I was thinking this team could go somewhere. QUEEN is *her* nickname.

I get acquainted with these new Mons before the first test: Gary.

RIVAL FIGHT #2 (Pokemon League)
-I remind myself that losing this means a restart, something I'm not willing to do.
-Pidgey fights Spearow first, and after a few Quick Attacks it goes down.
-Mankey, now sporting Low Kick, the second-best Fighting move in the game, one-hits Eevee.

Not bad. Not a bad fight at all. Really don't want to lose these ones!

-Veridian Forest, look at a Caterpie, and flee. Only a Butterfree or Beedrill would get my attention here, and I don't want to grind a Caterpie for any reason.
-Grind here, even though Mankey could very well beat Brock single-handedly. I'm not pulling any punches (excuse this horribly embarrassing pun please).

BROCK (Badge #1)
-Gary fight was promising, and I expect more of the same here. Mankey Low Kick's got the win, but Onix could have been dangerous.

-Mt Moon and the rest, Nidoran evolves into Nidorina! Perfect. An aside: Naming my Nidoran "Queen" was a little cocky, as if it would survive to be a Nidoqueen. But it did, because Mt Moon comes through with the early Moon Stones.

-I fight Nugget Bridge before Misty, don't want to screw up anything.

RIVAL FIGHT #3 (Cerulean City/Nugget Bridge)
-The Rival team is a million times easier in Yellow than R/B. Besides the Champ fight, it is very hard to lose to the Rival in this game.
-A heavy dose of Mankey and Nidoqueen.

-More Nugget Bridge stuff. Yawn.

I'm scared of Misty right now lol. I go as far as the SS Anne before challenging her.
Let's get right to it...

RIVAL FIGHT #4 (SS Anne)
-Bounjour!
-Without any problems, Mankey, Nidoqueen and Pidgeotto take care of Gary.
-Smell Ya Later, Gary!

And back to Misty.

MISTY (Badge #2)
-Nidoqueen might get seriously injured by some Bubblebeams, so I opt to use Pidgeotto.
-Pidgeotto does pretty well. I get a couple of crits and 2 hit the Starmie.
-No threats yet, but Pidgeotto is at ~25 HP at the battle's end.

I can freely challenge Surge now.

LT.SURGE (Badge #3)
-One man. One Raichu. One other Trainer. Three capable Pokemon.
-Cutting to the chase: Nidoqueen was a great matchup against Raichu. It could only use the craptastic Mega Punch, which had some useful misses for me.
-Nidoqueen's Mega Punch did not fail me, and took only two to defeat it.

Here is where I'll leave off. Having played this game for the 100,000th time, I'm aware of all possible threats to my Nuzlocke Challenge. Also, I can do this one very quickly. Thank you anyone who spent more than a minute reading this.

Third update:
Spoiler:
This will be a long update.

I forgot to mention that I considered every new floor of a cave/dungeon a new area and thus I can catch new Pokemon, provided that it isn't a clone and that it was the first Pokemon I met (aside from clones) within five encounters. The result is tons of Pokemon waiting in my box. -_-

I added new team members: a Tirtouga from a Cover Fossil that I resurrected and named Neptune and a Tranquill that I captured at Route 6 and named Garuda.

Neptune later evolved into a Carracosta and became slower than before. Was the shell too heavy?

Garuda later evolved into a Unfezant. Such a trustworthy and mature guy. His Fly missed only three times as far as I know. Maybe because I captured him in his evolved form?

As for the gyms:
-Beaten Nimbasa Gym. WarMachine did all the job.
-Beaten Driftveil Gym. Lancelot did almost all the job, except for Excadrill, whom WarMachine knocked off with a single Dig.
-Beaten Mistralton Gym. Neptune is the MVP.
-Beaten Icirrus Gym. Neptune also wrecked the gym single-handledly.

My Pokemon were already at their final forms. I've downgraded Sirius to a HM slave, since I need one. Sorry Sirius.

For newly captured Pokemon, the only ones significant enough to be mentioned aside from team members would be the lucky encounters with a Tynamo at the B2 of the Chargestone Cave and a Cryogonal at Twist Mountain. I considered every room there separately but still..1% chance (it was spring) is so small. And she (yeah, it's asexual but I'll be calling it a 'she'. for no reason.) was my very first encounter in the whole Twist Mountain. How f****** lucky is that?

For deaths..don't ever mention it.
Spoiler:
Ok, I give up. Two more died. One was..Timon. Due to a 5-hit Tail Slap from a wild Minccino that I'll later capture. And he didn't even get to pull off a Hypnosis. Another was a Ducklett that I captured at the Driftveil bridge and named Maria. And the cause was a critical Avalanche from a Vanillite that I'll also get to capture later.

Right now, I'm entering Route 9. Good luck to Team Plasma members that I'll be meeting.

UPDATE #2 of my Yellow Nuzlocke!

Spoiler:

I did an exceptional amount of grinding from the third gym onwards. You can tell how much I wanted to keep my team, and at this point I refused to replace them other Pokemon.

-With Queen, Chop and Bravest, I went through the Rock Tunnel without any troubles. Chop the Primeape's Low Kick and Nidoqueen's Bubblebeam did the trick.

-In Lavender, but I felt I needed to train before Gary in the Pokemon Tower.
-Arrived in Celadon, taught Nidoqueen Horn Drill and bought plenty of X Accuracys for some Gen 1 cheapness.
-Went straight to the Game Corner/Rocket Hideout, easily defeating Giovanni.
-Returned to Lavender to beat Gary

RIVAL FIGHT #4 (Pokemon Tower)
-I used Primeape a lot this fight. Low Kick is a very solid move in this game.
-No casualties here, the grinding has made my Pokemon somewhat overleveled.

Moving on...

ERIKA (Badge #4)
-Pidgeotto has finally evolved into Pidgeot!
-Pidgeot takes care of everything. Although I did use plenty of healing items this gym...

-Went to Silph Co to grab the Earthquake TM for Nidoqueen and to prepare for Koga.

RIVAL FIGHT #5 (Silph Co)
-Tougher team for Gary this time around. Nonetheless, my team handled his own team pretty well.
-As it turns out, Gary has Jolteon. Fine with me because I have Nidoqueen.

Now that Nidoqueen's moveset is fanstastic, I go down to Fuchsia City.

KOGA (Badge #5)
-Nidoqueen was a good choice for this gym, but Psychic hits her pretty hard. I had to switch in Pidgeot to take care of the Venonats.

-Switch back to Nido when Venomoth comes out. Since I know Nidoqueen outspeeds it, I just use one X Accuracy and a Horn Drill to win. Thanks for playing, Koga!

[Grinding Intensifies]

Ok, time for Sabrina!

SABRINA (Badge #6)
-Does Abra do anything?
-Kadabra is better, but super frail.
-Alakazam. Now we're talking. I switch to Pidgeot as both Primeape and Nidoqueen can have their lives taken by one Psychic from Zam.
-On very low HP due to a Special stat drop, Pidgeot defeats Alakazam with two Double Edges. This was the first moment that I started to worry for them.

The exciting part is yet to come. I have recently finished this Nuzlocke and found this one to be a blast.

Update #1
Spoiler:

Given my first Pokemon - Fenniken! I name him Merlin, because he is always pulling a disappering act and hiding from me!

Route 2:

Left town and went to Route 2. I saw a wild Pidgey and Merlin fought it for me. I caught her and named her Feather.

A boy named Austin saw me catch Feather and challenged me to a duel! His Zigzagoon broke Feather's wing and then ate her. Poor Feather! I want to cry. Merlin taught it a lesson at set it on fire with his Ember attack.

Santalune Forest:

I went into Santalune Forest and saw a wild Pansear! Merlin was playing nicely with it, so we made friends with it and caught it! Now I have two red Pokemon! I named Pansear Campy since its hair looks like a campfire.

Campy is being very naughty. It likes to start fights with wild Pokemon, but then doesn't do very well. I hope it gets stronger. A girl named Anna challenged me to a duel with her Pikachu and Campy would have been hurt, or worse, if I didn't have potions with me!

Route 3:

My friends and I exited the forest. They are headed to town, but I was looking around for more Pokemon instead. I see a cute Bunnelby! Campy really came through and weakened the Bunnelby so I was able to catch it! I named him Mr. Sniffles, since he keeps twiching his nose. Trained with my Pokemon and felt ready to take on a gym battle!

I was in town and spoke to a man who wanted to trade Pokemon with me. He liked Mr. Sniffles and was willing to trade his Farfetch'd for him. I feel sad about Feather still, so I thought it would be nice to have another bird Pokemon again. I said goodbye to Mr. Sniffles (who secretly liked it better in town) and I have a new friend named Quacklin'!

Route 22:

I wanted to train with Quacklin' before taking on the gym. We haven't been friends long enough for us to trust each other in battle yet.

There were a lot of powerful trainers on this route, but my Pokemon prevailed! I was really lucky and found a Riolu! Quacklin' hardly took any damage from Riolu (I think it might be weaker than other Riolu) and we caught it easily; I used this Great Ball that a nice man in town gave me. Riolu is so cute! I think I'll name him Punchy.

Punchy doesn't seem to have much confidence in his power, but I hope he knows how much I believe in him! If we train hard enough, I'm sure he'll be an excellent battler!

Santalune Gym:

We are finally ready for the gym! The instructor at the Trainer's School told me that having two Fire-type Pokemon and a Flying-type Pokemon is going to give me an advantage! He told me to be careful if I use Punchy, because some Bug-type Pokemon can use Flying attacks. I think Punchy can just watch this time... I don't want him to lose confidence in himself!

Well I was - about - to go into the gym! Some older girl on rollerskates stopped me and challenged me to a duel! Quacklin' hurt her poor Zigzagoon, but I think it will be ok (I think Feather would be happy that he won though). She was nice and gave me an extra pair of rollerskates that she outgrew.

I beat the gym! Poor Merlin got really hurt though. I don't think I should make it fight any more. I will send him home to Mom so he can keep her company while I am on my Pokemon adventure. The gym leader Viola is really nice and gave me a badge for winning. She even showed me a cool move that some Pokemon might be able to learn.

Update #2
Spoiler:

Route 4/Lumiouse City:

There are some nice gardens on this route. Lots of Combee, I hope they don't try to sting me! Quacklin' smacked one that got too close to us; he's such a good friend.

Beat a lot of trainers that challenged me and eventually met some of Professor Sycamore's friends. They invited me to follow them to his lab; that's nice of them! I asked if we could stop at the Pokemon Center along the way (my friends are all tired and need to rest after their battles).

Professor Sycamore challenged me to a duel! I was scared that he would be too strong, but Quacklin' defeated all of his Pokemon! Professor Sycamore let me choose one of the Pokemon to care for after winning the duel; I chose the Bulbasaur (the poor thing was really hurt by Quacklin') that I named Seedric. I have a good feeling Seedric will be happy with us.

Route 5:

After getting my haircut (yay!) I got a call from my friends and we are headed to Route 5 to continue our Pokemon adventure. Oh! As soon as I got here I found another Bunnelby! I was a little sad to say goodbye to Mr. Sniffles (even though he seemed to like his new trainer), so I am going to try and catch it!

Seedric helped me catch the Bunnelby. I decided to name him Mr. Hoppy (he sure likes to jump around a lot); Maybe I will take him to visit Mr. Sniffles some day.

Oh no! I was in a battle with a trainer named Hamish, and his Kadabra made Punchy not able to fight any more... I think it used a Psychic-type power that messed with Punchy's brain. Punchy ran away, acting a lot like a different Pokemon- it seemed very confused. I will miss Punchy!

I finally got to Camphrier Town. Shauna was here, but my other friends have gone ahead already. I think I am going to call Mr. Hoppy, Mr. Grabby instead. I always find him holding things.

A HUGE Pokemon, called Snorlax, is in my way! I can't get to Route 7 unless we wake it up. Someone told us that we can wake it up with a flute, so I guess we are going to a nearby palace and borrow one.

Route 6:

Going to the palace to get the Pokeflute. If we can't get it then Snorlax will just keep sleeping in the way! Some old ladies challenged me to battle while I was heading toward the palace - Old people are SO weird! Anyways, Seedric beat their Pokemon and then evolved! Now he's an Ivysaur and his flower is pretty :3

Shauna and I found the palace owner's missing Furfrou, so he let us take the Pokeflute. On my way back to wake up the Snorlax, I cut through the grass - to avoid the old ladies - but there were trainers there too! Ugh! I found a cute Oddish though. Caught her and named her Blossom.

Berry Fields:

I stopped by the Berry Fields to check on my berries that I planted. The were growing nicely! I plucked some nasty weeds, but in one berry tree there was a bug Pokemon! The Volbeat attacked us and I was able to catch is with Seedric's help. I named him Baron (he reminded me of the palace owner).

Route 7:

After the Snorlax woke up, Seedric knocked it out too fast for me to catch it. Thankfully, it fell to the side of the road when it passed out.

There was a lot of grass and flowers on Route 7, so I decided to look for more Pokemon. I caught a Roselia! I named her Muse since she reminded me of my favorite poem. Sadly, a Ducklett swooped down and gobbled her up.

We stopped at a house on Route 7; I guess they call it the Battle Chateu? Viola was there and introduced me to the owner - She's so nice! I was allowed to battle the other trainers there. It was fun except a Riolu (I miss Punchy) beat up Mr. Grabby something awful! Looks like Mr. Grabby can't battle any more either. Quacklin' got revenge and also beat every other trainer there! We did so well that I already have a new battle title when I visit :)

Connecting Cave:

It sure is dark in here. I caught a Zubat right away. I named it Fang since it tried to eat my hat.

Route 8:

Oh! We found an Absol! Zubat kept her busy, while I tried to catch her, but she was too strong at ate poor Fang (Pokemon can be so dangerous!). Quacklin' kept her busy so I could try and catch her. I used up nearly ALL of my pokeballs trying to catch her. I finally caught her and decided her name should be Dodger. My Pokedex says she isn't as strong as other Absol can be, but she sure is lucky!

Ambrette Town:

I got a nice fishing rod from someone at the aquarium. I have never fished before, so I tried it right outside of town. I caught a heart-shaped Pokemon! The Pokedex calls it a Luvdisc. It's so cute. I named her Sweety.

I am taking four of my Pokemon now, and we're headed to a place called the Glittering Cave. There are supposed to be some cool Pokemon there, and maybe some stones the evolve Pokemon too!

Update #3
Spoiler:

Rode a Rhydon to Glittering Cave. I've rode my mom's Rhydon before, but riding a strange one was kind of exciting; like doing it for the first time!

Something bit Rhydon's foot along the way - a Sandile! I was able to catch her in a Great Ball before Rhydon could panick (I didn't want us to fall off of the cliff!). I named her Kricket.

When we got the the cave, I sure saw a lot of shiny gems there; It's not called the Glittering Cave for nothing! I found a sad, little Pokemon in the cave that was crying. My Pokedex said it's a Cubone. I caught her after she attacked us (poor thing was probably scared). I called her Beatty. I think she will spend a little time with us for a while. I sent Kricket to the Professor so she would stop biting everyone.

After meeting Caleb in the cave, we were attacked by some people in red suits! We beat their Pokemon, but I wonder what they were doing there? At the end of the cave, one of the fossil researchers gave Caleb and me a fossil each. I chose a Sail Fossil and took it back to town. I don't know how it works, but they were able to make a Pokemon with it! She is such a cute Pokemon! I called her Aurora.

Now that I have six Pokemon with me, I think it's time to go to another town and see if they have a gym.

Update #4
Spoiler:

Traded Luvdisc for a Steelix! His name is Thumper. He looks like a very strong Pokemon! Maybe he will help keep our team safe?

I challenged the gym and Thumper wasn't doing so well. Since it was a Rock-type gym, I used Seedric and he did very well for himself! The gym leader used an Amaura though, just like mine, and I didn't know her Ice-type attacks would be so strong... poor Seedric didn't make it. I was able to win the badge, but lost a friend.

Route 10:

Caught a Snubbull and named her Buttercup (she was sniffing some nice yellow flowers until we met). I sent her to the Professor since she doesn't seem to want to fight much.

Update #5
Spoiler:

Route 11:

Caught Nidorino and named him Oblio. Defeated trainers on the way to the cave, but Oblio was killed by a Mr. Mime in a double-battle. Thumper got revenge for him though!

Reflection Cave:

Another trainer challenged me when I entered the cave. I beat him easily enough by using Thumper. I encounted another Pokemon - It was a Mr. Mime though. Thumper wanted to eat him, but couldn't hurt it at all with its Dragon Breath attack. I changed to Quacklin' and he almost killed the Mr. Mime with a Night Slash attack. The Mr. Mime was able to hang in there, though, so I thought we should try to catch it (it must be strong to survive my best Pokemon!). I was able to catch it and named him Whisper. It may be a while before I can use him since my other Pokemon don't like him.

Route 12:

Caught a Slowpoke and named her Paula. I was going to try and fish, but a man stopped me and told me to go back to town. Oh yeah! I forgot the Professor asked me to go to the Tower of Mastery.

Shalour City:

Battled Calem at the Tower of Mastery. His Meowstic crushed Campy! Poor Campy, he was with me for so long. I went back to the Pokecenter afterwards and sent Quacklin' to the Professor; I wasn't able to control him in battle any longer! The Professor says I can ask for him back after I have won a few badges. Apparently, Pokemon that are too strong will stop listening to their trainer.

Whisper really handled the Shalour City Gym well! He only needed help for Korrina's Pokemon. Beatty took out the Hawklucha with some Rock Slide attacks and finished it off with Thrash attack. I was scared I might lose Beatty, but her Rocky Helmet hurt Hawklucha just enough that her Thrash attacks were able to knock it out! So now we have a Rumble Badge.

I battled Korrina again, but this time we used Mega-Evolution! The Lucario that wanted to fight for me was the winner! Korrina said it wanted to come with me, so I accepted. It looks like Punchy, so I named him Punchy in memory of our friend who ran away.

Route 12:

The man that stopped me from passing before, gave me his childhood friend Lapras! She is really friendly. I am going to call her Cally.

I stopped at a cool Skiddo Ranch. Riding the Skiddo was really fun! I even battled againt the family that owns the place. Punchy did amazing, and Beatty even did some work against a kid with a bunch of Bug Pokemon.

Coumarine City:

I beat the Grass-type gym easy! I asked for Dodger back from the Professor, and taught her how to do the move Aerial Ace. She was lower-level than a lot of the Pokemon in the gym, but she did really well for herself! She still wasn't strong enough to take on Ramos, so I trusted Quacklin' to breeze through his Pokemon, and he did! Now Quacklin' is strong enough to fly me anywhere in Kalos that I want to go! He's such a good Pokemon!

Update #6
Spoiler:

Route 13:

Left Coumarine City and Route 13 is very windy and sandy! I was attacked by a Dugtrio, but Aurora took it out with an Avalanche attack before I had a chance to catch it.

We kept going South and eventually saw a scientist standing near the Power Plant. I went over to see what was going on (since Lumiose City was having power problems) and found out that Team Flare was the cause of it all! My Pokemon and I went in and took care of Team Flare. Punchy didn't need much help at all, but I still gave him a break and let Thumper scare away the rest of Team Flare.

Lumiose City:

Now that the power was restored to the city, I was able to challenge the gym! It was run by Clemont, who likes Electric-type Pokemon. I beat the trainers with Beatty and then gave her a rest and defeated Clemont using only Punchy. I got the badge and then continued on my Pokemon journey with my friends.

Route 14:

Calem challenged me to a duel again... I beat him without losing any Pokemon this time, but he sure doesn't seem to understand that friends shouldn't hurt their Pokemon battling against each other! At least some good came out of it; Aurora evolved! She is not cute any more, but very beautiful :)

Petalburg City: I went to the Gym, and the Usual Happens like Wally comes by to Know how to catch a Pokemon so Norman Gives his Zigzagoon to Wally for Catching a Pokemon and you go with him to Route 102.

Route 102: Wally encounters Ralts and Catches it then you head back to Petalburg City.

Petalburg City: Norman Takes back his Zigzagoon then Wally Leaves and Norman says to take the Rustboro Gym first. I then Proceed to Route 104. oh but Scott Stops me and saying that if i found any Talented Trainers and Leaves!

And Save!

Right now, I'm in a dilemma.

I was in Route 10 when Cheren came and challenged me. Neptune was doing well, since all his Unfezant did was to Taunt and Detect. Then came Samurott. He unleashed hi Aqua Tail, mine my Smack Down. I decided to just buff up with Curse but he unleashed a critical Aqua Tail.

In short, Neptune..was drowned.

I defeated him quickly after. But afterwards, Cheren healed my Pokemon.

So what should I do? Should I treat Neptune as dead?

Nah, disregard that. Will update further later.

Most people will say no, it's still dead. Likewise, if something dies against N, then you'll most likely not want to use it against Ghetsis. Although one person I saw doing Blaze Black 2, one of his Pokémon died against Kyurem, but he considered it revived against Ghetsis. But yeah, I'd just consider it dead.

On another note, I'll probably start a Nuzlocke here shortly.

Fourth update:
Spoiler:
Tragic story ahead.

The Opelucid gym was ok, though WarMachine nearly died from a Revenge and Rough Skin combo, courtesy of someone's Druddigon. At that point, I decided to wreck the gym, since I was still holding back (I didn't used Earthquake, preferring to use Rock Slide.). Totally.

Then, the gym leader battle. WarMachine destroyed Iris team.

After that, I went to Route 10. I was just happily wrecking the life of others. I was even able to capture a Rufflet. Then, everything changed when Cheren attacked.

Yeah, Neptune died. Even though he got resurrected later by that idiot, it was incomplete and I still have qualms on using a zombie. So I just put him in the graveyard. For good. I will miss you!!

So, lacking a good Pokemon to use, I decided to get Pringles. Trained him very hard until he reached the levels of my other Pokemon.

Right now, I'm back in Route 10, paying my last respects at the strong and heroic Neptune before I destroy the whole Victory Road, Pokemon League, and Team Plasma to vent my frustrations.

CelticsPhan January 15th, 2014 4:11 PM

Third and FINAL update for Yellow Nuzlocke. This is where it gets exciting, and I become Champion.

Spoiler:

In my last update, my team had just beaten Sabrina. It's off to Cinnabar for the 7th badge.

-Even more grinding!

BLAINE (Badge #7)
-I had Nidoqueen main this Gym. Primeape knows Rock Slide, but that's a huge risk considering it misses and Primeape doesn't have a very good Special.
-Earthquake, that is all.

Here it is, badge #8 in sight. I haven't had any faints or any threats to my Pokemon in quite a while. Might even say it was easy at this point. I would be proved very wrong in this next segment...

GIOVANNI (Badge #8)

This was a highlight in my Nuzlocke, and a part of why these Challenges are so exciting. Here we go.

-Dugtrio fights my Nidoqueen. Nidoqueen has Ice Beam, so no issues there.
-Persian. Nidoqueen beats that as well.
-Nidoking. Nidoqueen takes that out too.

That leaves... Rhydon. Earthquake failed to OHKO the Rhydon, and Rhydon dropped an Earthquake on Nidoqueen. CRITICAL. HIT. Nidoqueen is dead!

RIP QUEEN Lv.50
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Horn Drill

Rhydon's wrath would not stop there. I franticly send in Pidgeot. I hope for a Crit to Rhydon, which is an ~18% chance due to Gen 1 wackyness. Double Edge does not Crit or kill, leaving Rhydon in the red.

Rock Slide. Super effective. Critical Hit yet again. Ladies and gentlemen, that is an 8% chance of having two Critical Hits in a row by Rhydon.

If you're wondering where I'm gettng this info on Critical Hits in Gen 1:
http://www.smogon.com/rb/articles/critical_hits

RIP BRAVEST Lv.51
-Double Edge
-Fly
-Wing Attack
-Swift

The RNG has taken out my trusty Nidoqueen and my very first, Pidgeot. That leaves only Primeape to save the day.

And he did just that. One Low Kick for the win.

Enter Primeape. The Pokemon overshadowed by my Pidgeot and Nidoqueen, and always the last to level up. I now have to grind Primeape to defeat the Rival and Elite Four or else my Nuzlocke is OVER. CHOP is my only hope here.

For experience and accomplishment, I had Primeape defeat the three Legendary birds. Moltres was beat after the Rival fight obviously.
-Defeated Zapdos
-Defeated Articuno

RIVAL FIGHT #7 (Pokemon League)

I realize how difficult the game becomes with just one Pokemon. One wrong move and then it's all over. My main concern: Kadabra. It likely outspeeds me and can kill Primeape with a single Psychic. I made sure that this was not the case.

-Give an X Speed to Primeape for Kadabra
-Beat Sandslash with two Karate Chops (Critical Hit everytime by the way)
-Was put to sleep by Exeggcute, and with two Karate Chops I defeat it
-Cloyster. Low Kick works well here.
-Ninetales is no big deal with Rock Slide
-Two Karate Chops for Jolteon!

We Victory Road now!

-Beat every Trainer in Victory Road. In addition, I found 10 Rare Candies (knowing this game is a big advantage!) which have not been used yet. All go to Primeape.
-Defeated Moltres.

[Excitement Intensifies]

-Primeape is a Lv.67 at the end of Victory Road, and I add the 10 Rare Candies to make it Lv.77. Here we go!!!

LORELEI
-Low Kick here and a Low Kick there.
-Slowbro was a pain!!! I needed it to use Amnesia rather than Psychic to beat it.
-Jynx was tough, and Rock Slide missed twice so I needed luck!
-Whew. Primeape is a 77 but the Elite Four are still difficult.

BRUNO
-Way easier than Lorelei.
-Almost no problems, so I won't describe this battle.

AGATHA

I knew Agatha was the only challenge between now and the Champion. I only had one move, the craptastic Rock Slide, to beat the Ghosts. If it misses, Primeape loses important PP and the Ghosts can use their Confuse Ray/Hypnosis/Dream Eater combo.

-To avoid Rock Slide misses, I equipped an X Accuracy and an X Attack. I also packed Ethers to keep Rock Sliding.
-I got some lucky crits here! The Gengars went down in two Rock Slides and I avoided Hypnosis and Psychic. Very good fight, it could've been the end right there.

LANCE
-It's good that I can use all four moves again.
-Gyarados-Rock Slide
-Dragonairs- Karate Chop
-Aerodactyl-Low Kick
-Dragonite- Rock Slide

Another good fight. Aerodactyl was my concern because Sky Attack could've ended Primeape.

CHAMPION GARY

Here it is. The crowning moment. I started with three Pokemon and only one remains. I needed one last perfermance from Primeape to win.

-Sandslash. Pretty annoying to fight because of its defensive bulk and STAB Earthquake from a respectable Attack stat. It took three Karate Chops and some Full Restores to beat Sandslash.
-Exeggutor. This Pokemon was Gary's biggest threat to my Nuzlocke. STAB Psychic from a great Special stat, and Hypnosis to make it extra frustrating. It felt good to take out Exeggutor.
-Alakazam: Now with extra Special Attack power! I got really lucky here. One Crit from Rock Slide beat it.
-Cloyster: Low Kick again, no worries
-Ninetales: Rock Slide

Almost finished.

Jolteon takes two Karate Chops from Primeape and I have won! I really felt like I was going to lose, but Primeape came through clutch.

But no challenge is really a challenge until you defeat the strongest thing in the game. This of course means MEWTWO.

-Go through Cerulean Cave, grinding.
-Here we are, the best Pokemon arguably ever. By far the best Pokemon in Gen 1.

MEWTWO
-I was hoping that Mewtwo would use Amnesia, as the AI of the game automatically chooses moves that have a type advantage over your Pokemon. Amnesia is Psychic type by the way.
-It did. Next turn was Amnesia again! Mewtwo is now one Karate Chop away from fainting.

Mewtwo's last move was Swift. Hilarious, considering two Amnesias put Mewtwo's Special at a scary 999. I was really thinking it would use Psychic and kill me.

So it ends.

Final Stats and Info:

CHOP (Primeape) Lv.81
-Karate Chop
-Low Kick
-Strength
-Rock Slide

RIP:
BRAVEST (Pidgeot) Lv.51
-Double Edge
-Fly
-Wing Attack
-Swift

QUEEN Lv.50
-Earthquake
-Thunderbolt
-Horn Drill
-Ice Beam

Really fun. I'll try to get back to my Platinum Nuzlocke soon. Thanks for reading!

Optional Rules: Blackout = challenge failure, must nickname all, battle style set, only pokeballs

Update number 1: Started off the game, and went to get that event torchic. Woo, can't wait to meet it at Santalune town! Picked the nickname Tom because I'm lame, and also other nicknames get annoying :( Started off with a Froakie named Gaius! I decided to wait to catch mons until Selena gave me pokeballs, because there's some glitch where you automatically encounter a pidgey two steps into grass on route 2. It's weird. Anyway, I got a zigzagoon on route 2 named Ziggy, and then in the forest got a Pansear who I named Fluff.
On the next route I picked up a Pikachu and named her Pepper, and once in Santalune I finally got my torchic! WHO I THEN REALIZED I COULDN'T NAME. And now can't use since nicknames are a must in the rules I picked. GAH. On route 22 I got a super rad bidoof who I named Ezekial. And then we went on to beat Viola with zero deaths. Yay! Then I ran ahead to get my mon from route 4... Ledyba. This challenge in the kalos region is very anti-kalos pokemon haha

Anyway, here's my progress report:

-Route 207 catch: Geodude (male), named Grant.
-I didn't catch anything in Oreburgh Mine, the first Pokémon was a duplicate. I grinded afterwards.
-Beat Roark, Coal Badge get! But Bridgette didn't make it. She died due to a critical hit from Cranidos.

Well, this is going better than I expected. I may post another update later.

5th Update:
Spoiler:

I had deposited Sirius and conscripted among the boxed ones a new team member: Athena the Solosis! Of course, what follows is mega grinding madness.

Basically, for Elite Four, I just type-matched. Pringles for Shauntal and her Ghost-types, which he did admirably, in spite of burns. PorkBarrel for Grimsley and his Dark-types. Lancelot for Caitlin and her Psychic-types, where he endured a critical Psychic that left him in the red zone while doing a Swords Dance and swept everyone else (yes, even Sigilyph). Athena for Marshal, where she endured the attacks and responded with a Psychic.

For Zekrom, WarMachine just whittled his life with Shadow Claws, Athena paralyzed him, Lancelot further whittled his life down to 1 HP with False Swipe. Accidentally clicked a Luxury Ball but that one captured him. Named him Indra. And of course, I didn't used him.

Tragic story follows:

Spoiler:
Victory Road..is a piece of cake.

Elite Four..are pieces of cakes.

N..is a piece of cake. His Reshiram instantly fell to the might of WarMachine. Everything else follows.

Ghetsis..is a piece of cake. That's what I've thought at first. I was wrong.

After Lancelot died at the hands of his Hydriegon and his critical Dragon Pulse, I can hear him laughing. "You have thought wrong!!" Lancelot wasn't even able to do a move. His Hydriegon by then was already damaged by PorkBarrel and Lancelot was only switched-in. Garuda avenged him.

After PorkBarrel died when his Bouffalant was able to endure a Brick Break and respond with an Earthquake, the laughter grew stronger. Athena defeated him.

After Athena endured his Seismitoad's critical Muddy Water and shut him down for good, his laughter died.

I won. But not with out sacrifices..

So is Ghetsis the final stop? Or should I still fight Alder?

Ugh! I didn't realize that you could still switch-out Pokemon when you are on SET mode!

So many Pokemon got killed for my mistake :(

Anvils Alive January 19th, 2014 11:37 AM

Maybe I'll try my hand at this site's section of the Nuz-woods.

Username: Anvils Alive
Game: White
Optional rules:
- Nickname all of your Pokémon
- Shiny Pokémon can be caught and used, no matter when you encounter them
- Last number of ID determines starter; 1-3 is Snivy, 4-6 is Tepig, 7-9 is Oshawott, and 0 means you can choose whatever you like
- Gifts don't count toward the first encounter

Movement 1
Spoiler:
My in-game main man is Hiro, who has an ID of 46215. That means I take Tepig, who proceeds to handily take care of Bianca and Cheren.
>Timid
...well then. At least Luis has a halfway decent Attack rating.
After we get the catching tutorial out of the way, I snag myself a Serious Patrat named Berlitz.
While I train everyone to L5 or better, Berlitz finds herself with a close call against a wild Lillipup.
Luis proceeds to Tail Whip and smash N's Purrloin to death, gaining an extra level in the process.
(SMASH CUT INTENSIFIES)
Another Patrat is our lucky catch for Route 2. Breaking news, guys: Wildeye is of the Calm persuasion. What is it with me and weird natures?!
Before reaching the last normal Trainer on the Route, Wildeye gets Tackled by a L6 Patrat - exactly her level! Berlitz makes sure the killer amounts to nothing more.
On a lighter note, Luis wastes Bianca on his lonesome. What a curbstomp! ^^ Anyhoo, we'll leave ourselves off in Striaton City.

Spoiler:
Wildeye the Patrat (L5~L6♀)

Movement 2
Spoiler:
Cheren's Oshawott OUTRIGHT CRITICALS LUIS, ARE YOU SNACKING ME?!
Berlitz avenges him and defeats Purrloin as well, but not without Leering it.
After mourning our Tepig, we move along to the Dreamyard.
There's our gift Pansage now! Say hello to Khan, folks!
Berlitz gets over Bide thanks to Detect, because fudge Bide deaths.
After grinding to L11, we head into the Striaton Gym, where Khan gets knocked down by a waiter's Lillipup, but survives anyway.
Also, Berlitz takes down the waitress' Pokémon with a bit more difficulty, so we have to get her to L12.
So, about Cress. While tanking some hits from his Lillipup, Khan Leers it and Vine Whips for the win.
Panpour uses Work Up while Khan Leers. Sorry, mang. Not even a +2 Water Gun can stop Khan!
I teach Khan Cut and both of my Pokémon Work Up. Cue relentless defeat of Plasma grunts (And by extension, saving the Munna they were pestering).
My actual encounter for the Dreamyard itself is a Purrloin named NotFelony. Well, I'll be darned, he's Impish! If it weren't for the Defense boost, his defenses wouldn't amount to anything.
We have our C-Gear, so we'll stop here. Hey, that rhymes!

Update #7

Rule changes:
1) Decided to allow myself to heal between battles. It's really not worth real-life time to run back to the Pokemon Center.
2) Going to recap my adventures, but I won't do it as if my character were telling a story. Not because I don't think people read it, but I'm going too fast on the challenge to keep it up :)

Route 14:

Aurora evolved after a battle with Calem. Was actually able to take on all of the Pokemon on Route 14 with Aurora, even though I was afraid of the Ground-type attacks that Quagsire would be using (just ran away from them for the time being after I realized fighting them would be a war of attrition). My first Pokemon encountered is a Stunfisk that I named Fiona (after a long, very weird, train-of-thought led me to think of Fiona Apple; a singer). I might end up using it, since I don't have another Electric-type (especially since it can Surf!), but she's in the bank for now.

I didn't have a good advantage against the Laverre City gym, so I pulled Blossom out of the bank and grinded some levels on her. Terry ended up throwing himself in front of a Miltank that was out of control (I went back to Route 12 to start gaining levels) and bit the dust. I wasn't planning on using him anyways, so no loss (I was using him to travel since I didn't want Quacklin' gaining any more levels). Once she was level 25-26, I came back and took my revenge on the Quagsire for some excellent XP. I brought along some banked Pokemon to soak up XP as well.

Took on the gym when Blossom was level 40 and she carried me through most of the trainers. I switched into Beatty when I was facing a Klefki, and just stayed in and did a Swords Dance to take out that trainer's last Pokemon.

Used Punchy to take out the gym leader's Mawile with two Bone Rush attacks and a Aura Sphere. Dropped Mr. Mime with one Shadow Claw. Got Sylveon close to dead a few times, but had to switch when she dropped Punchy to 4 HP (I was lucky it wasn't a crit... took a chance to stay in on her). I switched into Thumper and missed four Iron Tail attacks in a row. Had to use one Super Potion and finally connected with an Iron Tail to one-shot Sylveon.

Overall a good gym run. I'm glad I took the time to level up my Oddish. Gloom was really doing some work! Venoshock + Toxic is just brutal against the Fairy-type :)

Golurks Were Meant to Fly January 22nd, 2014 1:34 PM

So long story short, I lost. Route 6 is surprisingly full of pain. I was trying to train up the espurr I had just caught, and so I was facing trainers. One had a volbeat, who was annoying as all hell with double team, moonlight, and confuse ray spam. I had to use a bunch of potions but everything was fine. Then on the other side of route 6, there was a double battle. I figured I would skip it, so Lux (espurr) wouldn't have to switch out if things got gnarly, so I went on and fought other trainers. Then I went back and it was a double battle... with furfrous. And when I thought I had whittled one down, they used a super potion, and then continued headbutting my entire team to death. :(

SO rest in peace Gaius the frogadier, Lux the espurr, Pedro the gogoat, Ziggy the zigzagoon and Ezekial the bidoof I never used.

I may start up another x nuzlocke, but we'll see.

Oshamaru January 22nd, 2014 3:45 PM

Update #8

Laverre City:

Took out the Team Flare goons at the Pokeball factory. Got quite a few levels on my main Pokemon.

Route 15:

Caught a Skorupi and named it Elektra. Tried Swords Dance buffing to get some levels on her, then I realized what I thought her Attack score was actually her Defense score. Took off her attacks, equipped Eviolite, and taught her Infestation/Toxic/Protect/Cut (needed a cutter since Quacklin' was banked). Was doing very well until I ran into a trainer with Duosion. I was crushing it until it attacked with a Psyshock... which took me from full to dead, and it wasn't even critical hit! I could have sworn that Poison/Bug would be neutral against Psychic attacks. I was really looking forward to having a Drapion tank too :(

Fought all of the trainers in the Lost Hotel and caught a Electrode... bleh. Named it Honey (an abstraction of Cojones). Jolly nature and will likely never get used. Hmmmm, maybe I can have it use Self-Destruct! :)

Route 16:

Blossom finally hit level 47 and learned Giga Drain. I used a Leaf Stone on her to evolve her into Vileplume. I was thinking a Bellosom would fit her name more, but I need a good Poison-type on the team.

Cleared this route out before going to the next town. I didn't realize it was a new route (I think I was looking away briefly when the area transition sign popped up), so I wasn't paying attention to what the first Pokemon I encountered was. After I cleared the map of trainers, I went to town to heal and came back. My first encounter was Pumpkaboo, so I caught her. Named her Lil' Boo. Might level her on Wingull hordes when I play next.

I am really hoping to find a Fire-type Pokemon soon, or at least one that can learn some Fire attacks.

AoTora January 23rd, 2014 1:39 PM

Since my ds roms seem to be freezing a lot I will do a nuzlocke on Ruby while I am working on fixing those roms. Rules will still be the same - Have to nickname everything and dupes clause and shiny clause are on. I am not going to be adding the SET mode because last time I did it it was horrible. So I will post my first update as soon as I start playing which should be in few seconds.

One badge down- 7 more to go.

Anyways - I got all the beginning stuff done and got my starter- Treecko I named Ninja. Than I got some levels on him - and succesfully battled and defeated my rival. Got back to lab and first encounter on first route was zigzagoon - caught her and named her Lina. Proceeded onto the next route where I caught Ed the Poochyena and I got seedot I named Pinoccio (That thingie was awfuly hard to train >_< ) - Helped Wally - I was hoping for Tailow on the next route since I didn't get Peliper (For Brawly) - but I got wurmple - I caught her and named her Leia. She evolved into Cascoon just so she could die against a zigzagoon that used tackle on her and got crit on her >_> There goes my chance against Brawly D:

Caught Shroomish in the forest and named him Loomie. Got to Rustbro and caught Nincada I named Elena and Whismur I named J (Hit B button too fast D: )

Did some training and my Pinoccio evolved after about forever (And is still useless for now). Roxanne was a breeze with Loomie and Ninja on my team. She didn't even stand a chance against absorb.

For White/Black, should I still fight Alder to finish the challenge? Or Ghetsis is enough?

Anyway, I would like to register my Emerald Nuzlocke that I've been playing these past few days:

Name: Ruby () -> (Don't know why this name ended up in my mind. -_-)
Game: Emerald
Optional Rules:
Spoiler:
- Nickname all Pokemon.
- A black out/white is a "game over," even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
- Every floor/room in a cave/dungeon will be considered as separate areas. Thus, I can capture Pokemon in another area of the cave/dungeon.
- Will not use/catch legendary Pokémon.
- Duplicate clause (No catching of duplicates.)
- Shiny clause (Will capture shiny Pokemon when it appeared even if it isn't the first Pokemon encountered in the route. Though most probably I won't be using them. )

Update:
Spoiler:
The theme is Ars Goetia. If you don't know that, GIYF.

I started this game using a Torchic, which I haven't used in a while. Currently, I'm now in Route 128, trying to prevent the end of the world that was caused by two idiots reviving two monsters. Quite a bit far, right? Haha.

Also, I later realized that I obtained TWO Pokemon in the same place and that it happened twice (Route 101 and Route 119). My error. And since those two had been already a solid part of my team, I just decided to sacrifice New Mauville, where my character was when I realize my first foolishness, and Route 121. And Safari Zone.

Flamethrower was obtained by cashing it out at the lottery in Mauville City. He showed his toughness (after a few Bulk Ups) when he faced Norman's team and live. As a Combusken.

side comment: The prankster and the cool one. Was at first annoyed with him since he was, you know, a slacker. He wouldn't take his opponents seriously. But when he evolved to Vigoroth, he became dependable. When he evolved further, he's back on his old ways. But he now had the strength to easily knock out an opponent in one hit and tank some attacks, like what he did in the Mossdeep Gym, where he was the one who knocked out the Gym Leaders, with some assistance from Vinea.

side comment: He was just a replacement for a dear Pokemon that I foolishly placed in front of a bomb (or Geodude). At the start, he replaced Vinea as the weak link of the team. But when he evolved, he became strong.

OKAY so let's try this once more! This time, I'm pseudo doing this challenge with Chase. (Castform). Basically we're both doing our nuzlockes together, and at the end we'll have a final battle.

-pokeballs only
-no super training
-dupes clause

Update number 1! Woke up for my journey... at 9 pm! Party hard all night, sleep all day, I guess. Let Chase pick me nickname, which was T-bone (mine for him is much better). Got a froakie and named him Chase. Went on through the routes, no casualties and picked up Olli the Pidgey, Sector the Panpour and Twihiki the Fletchling. Got to Santalune and finally got rid of those ugly sunglasses, and bought myself a new hat. On route 22, I encountered Patchouli the Dunsparce. 4 gusts from Olli and two potions later, Viola was defeated. Went on to Route 4 and encountered a Skitty who I named Woohoo.

Woke up at 8! Didn't oversleep like some people^. Started my journey and let Tom pick my nickname which is Honeyboo-boo :(. He picked out Honeybooboo but lol GF censored boob! Started with Froakie and named him Tom. Went ahead and caught a Fletchling and named it Katarina before entering Santalune forest where I caught Riven the Panpour. On the next route I defeated my encounter which was a Dunsparce but that's ok! Went on and caught Viegar the Azurill before beating Viola really easily with Tom and Katarina. On route 4 I also caught a Skitty and named it Derkles!

Golurks Were Meant to Fly January 24th, 2014 1:56 PM

So this was an eventful update! I got a lot of progress, even I'm just about halfway to the second gym, but whatever! Okay so after last update, I finally got to Lumiose city, and picked up a female Charmander, who I named Nica! I also finally got a better haircut, and then finished the Lumiose stuff. On route 5... I got a furfrou (WOO!) who I named Wolf (furfrous are surprisngly godlike).

Once at Camphrier, I did the storyline stuff and headed onto route 6. I was really hoping I would get an awesome honedge or espurr, and to my luck I got... a sentret. I named him Derps and did the Parfum Palace stuff. After, while I was grinding up my team on route 6 (Volbeat is still just as annoying by the way) both Nica the charmander and Chase the froakie evolved! AND I then ran into a shiny.... sentret! I named her Sophie and was going to use her... but I found out she has the worst possible nature for a furret haha. Keepin her on my team for that bling though! (go shiny clause!)

Continued on to route 7, and quickly realized I was not going to catch the snorlax with 2 pokeballs, so after trying I killed it. In the connecting cave, however, I ran into an awesome meditite who I named Aurora. And on route 8, I ran into a Bagon but Wolf the furfrou's tackle critted and killed it. Oh well! Now I'm at Ambrette town, and hopefully I'll have a helioptile soon!

Update 2 time! Started on Route 4 where I caught my Skitty yesterday and decided to go on to the next city and get my Bulbasaur from the professor before trainin on the route. Beat him easily but Riven the Panpour had to be used as a meat shield ): Got Bulba and started to train on route 4 where Tom and Katarina both evloved before going to route 5! My encounter there was a Gulpin whom I named Twitch. On route 6 I was hoping to see a Honedge but instead a Venipede jumped out of nowhere so I caught her and named it Caitlyn. Did the palace tasks and then went to route 7 where I got my Snorlax named Malphite! Connecting cave gave me Shyvana the Axew but a bad natured one ): Route 8 took a while for an encounter but I found a Drifloon named Corkie! Saving at Ambrette town for now! :D

2nd Update:
Spoiler:
Some team changes, an additional badge to my collection, and a mind-wrecking mission to save the world accomplished.

Saved the whole region..by waking up some God-like creature that can control the heavens. WTF?

Anyway, moving on..Vinea trashed the whole Sootopolis Gym, with assist coming from Balam. Afterwards, I revisited some places to train, eventually making my way to a cavern inside the Meteor Falls, where I caught Valak the Bagon! Trained him afterwards. Eventually he evolved into a Salamence, and thus, one of my current team needs to be boxed. And yes, it's Zepar the Crobat.

I also completed the sea routes. I'm currently at Evergrande City, right in front of the entrance of the Victory Road.

New update:
I finished it already. Will detail it further tomorrow later.

Natnew January 25th, 2014 3:52 AM

sad news... who knew bibarrel was so fast?

ok, so I was looking for unown's hidden power type, and I figured it was grass. unown was heavily gamaged, however.

I tried to run. I got "can't escape" and the bibarrel nearly KO'd me.

I switched to shellos (used the nickname so much I forgot it's read name, had to look it up), predicting water gun, but got rollout. this nearly KO'd my fiery once, so I was scared.

tried to run twice, failed both, rollout hit both :O

I had to switch. shellos couldn't take another hit.

I switched to luxio, who was high leveled and at full HP.

bibarrel hit with rollout 4th time and crit. it didn't survive...

NOOOOOOO

I still couldn't run.

I sent out unown. If I could loose any member of the team, that's it.

by sheer luck, I ran.

I got my staravia back from the box (temp deposited it for unown), put luxio in the death box (I'm sorry!) and took a ponyta out.

Final Update:
Finished the Victory Road along with the "strong Trainer from Petalburg" and with Repel on, since I don't want to catch Pokemon anymore. Haha.

Made changes with move sets, etc. Also used the move Covet to its full efficiency (Spell Tag, Dragon Fang, and Black Belt, get!!). Afterwards, when I felt that I'm ready, I went to the Pokemon League to challenge the Elite Four and the Champion.

Here is the summary of the fights that occurred:

Spoiler:
Sidney:
Spoiler:

This..is boring. Amon just break their collective asses, even after the influence of Mightyena's Intimidate. Must be the result of obtaining the top spot in the martial arts world (aka equipping Black Belt).

Phoebe:
Spoiler:

Astaroth knocked them into shadows, though with difficulty, mostly by his own incompetence.

From my previous experiences, the AI will try using Protect until it succeeded. I used it to my advantage, using the X items while Astaroth was able to attack and idling while the opponent uses Protect. Then the next turn, there would be an additional member of the spirit world.

And its FAQ time!!
Q: Did you soft reset?
A: No. I just remembered my previous runs.

Anyway, he still wasn't able to escape the Thunder God's wrath (Thunderbolt) and was stunned. Another blow was a critical one and he needed an emergency remedy (Full Restore). That was the first time I used one. Anyway, he defeated them all.

With some assistance from Amon, Vinea was able to defeat them, though Walrein didn't die from the life drain instantly and Vinea needed a X Special to be energized and defeat her.

Wallace:
Spoiler:

This one is hard. I opened with Balam, using a Calm Mind. Wailord danced in the rain. Afterwards, he got electri-fried. The same fate was given to Tentacruel. Since it's raining, I didn't risked Amon going out when Ludiculo entered the battle. Anyway, he's dead in one Psychic. Whiscash came next so I entered Vinea. One Giga Drain later, and he's knocked out cold. Next came his Milotic. Giga Drain didn't even him. I switched Vinea for Balam. Shock Wave also didn't fazed him. Additionally, he nearly killed Balam with a Surf. I got no choice but to "release the Kraken". Astaroth knocked him out with a Return. Gyarados came next but was instantly shocked. And thus, I won.

And yey, I'm done!

Update #9

Frost Cavern:

Caught a Beartic and named it Frosty. Went back to town to check it out, since I caught it on my very first steps in the cave, and found that it was Adamant! Put it in my party. Used two Heart Scales to teach him Superpower and Aqua Jet.

Was fighting one of the Ace Trainers and lost Punchy to a Marowak. I *should* have switched to Blossom, but for some reason I thought I'd be able to take one Ground move, but the Marowak hit all 5 times on its Bone Rush :(

Finished the rest of the cave and gained some levels on my main team. Losing Punchy sucked, but the challenge should be more interesting now that I don't currently have any Pokemon that can mega-evolve.

Hopefully the first Pokemon I encounter on the ice path (w/e it's called) is a Snover!

Sign me up for Pokémon FireRed! I'm doing a video series of my playthrough of it too, so as a type of video journal for this thread I'll put the videos here, too, if I can get the youtube button to work for this forum...

Next episode will be out in a couple days!

Gaaaah, why aren't the video links with the youtube boxes around them working?

Update #10

Route 17:

Actually caught a Snover! Named it Lucky, since that's the Pokemon I was hoping for. Modest nature, which doesn't seem bad. At least I was able to use the mega-evolution after feeding it a Rare Candy.

Got all of the items and just skipped the flying trainers (since I couldn't fight them).

Anistar City:

Beat Calem without much effort. Then proceeded to take on the gym. I had to go back to the Pokemon Center and switch out some party members after almost losing Lil' Boo and Blossom on the first trainer. Pulled out Quacklin', Thumper, and Dodger. Taught Thumper the Payback move again, and he sweeped the gym except for the last Pokemon on Olympia, which I switched into Dodger. Slowking apparently didn't have any other attacks besides Psychic, so I was able to setup Swords Dance and Payback (healing the occasional Yawn) and taking him out in one shot.

Left the gym and the Team Flare event need to be taken care of, so I switched my team around again and took off to Lumiose City.

Cafe Flare:

Beat the two disguised minions without much effort. Then I faced Lysandre! He killed Frosty, Aurora, and Lucky. He almost destroyed Beatty and Blossom as well.... I thought my Nuzlocke was over :(

Finally took out his Murkrow and went back to the Pokemon Center. Put the newly dead in the dead-box and now Thumper (sans Payback for Bulldoze again), Quacklin', and Dodger are once again on the team.

I was really looking forward to using Aurora and Frosty too... well, Lucky as well, since I wanted to see what kind of damage a Modest Abomasnow could do with Frost Breath :)

Update #11

Cafe Flare/Lysandre Labs (continued):

After losing three Pokemon, I slowly worked my way through Cafe Flare. I did well until I was challenged my Team Flare Mable. Beatty was doing a good job of absorbing the Flamethrower attacks, but I made a mistake by using Swords Dance, not realizing Houndoom knew Foul Play. The jerk. Cleared out the rest of the labs and went back to town to put Beatty in the dead-box.

In town I put all of my level 50+ Pokemon into the bank and grabbed three replacements - Dodger, Paula, and Fiona. I grinded out some levels for them until they were around level 50+ I also flew to Anistar, thinking I could pick up Flamethrower, but realized it was the time-sensitive NPC that hands it out. I ended up buying Focus Blast.

Team Flare Secret Headquarters:

Took my new team to the HQ and did rather well on the whole run. Paula is really what the team needed; Water-type could laugh at the Fire Pokemon all day. I alternated between her having Focus Blast and Trick Room.

Captured Yveltal to transfer to my Pokemon X when the bank opens. Used it to beat Lysandre, then boxed it. I repeated this process a few times so I could get a neutral nature on it.

Anistar City:

Flew back to Anistar City and I'm going to take a break for a while.

Update:
Spoiler:
The usual introduction. Blah, blah. Skip, skip. I named myself Chaos. Hoho. My rival's Hugh. Ugh. Lazy bones and stuff. And long story short: My mom just barged into my room telling me I have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go to an adventure. How awesome. Then she just told me to meet my benefactor: a girl with a big cap. Ok Mom! Then, after I went out of the house, I was blocked by someone. Oh, it's Hugh. Hugh went on with his speech. Ok. So I went to the most obvious place for tourists. As I've thought, she's there. She introduced herself as Bianca. Ok Bianca. Then she let me choose my partner. Hmmm. A life-changing decision. Anyway, I choose the little snubby snake. Named her Louise.

Ugh, looks like I made the wrong choice. How could I get her to warm up to me? Yep, you guessed right. Through a Pokemon battle with that Hugh bastard and his proud pig. This wil be a rated-R show. Long story short, we had pork steak for dinner. Tasty. And yes, Louise looks satisfied with the meal. Though it seems she demands more fitting foes for her. What a girl.

Afterwards came another speech from Mom and Hugh's sister. So you want to make me a courier for that idiot (Hugh)? And it looks like Louise doesn't care. What a snub. Anyway, time for a lecture from Bianca-sensei. Went off to Route 19 for a..capture demonstration. Quick. I want to set off right now! Then, afterwards I met a Patrat right off the bat. Louise attacked. He's still breathing after the attack, so I threw a Pokeball. And he's caught! Our second friend! Named him Sheamus. After that, I trained him until he's tough enough.

Then, we saw an UFO. No, it's a bird. No, it's a plane. No, it's a weirdo old guy with an equally weird hair! A weirdo tried to block us! He introduced himself as Alder. (Seriously, what's with his fetish for cliffs?) We just ignored the old man and went off to the next town. And went off for the next route since this town looks so..BORING/peaceful. Alder's also there, waiting. Like we care. We went off to Route 20, fought some weaklings and met a..seed. A f*****g seed. Oh well, nothing's wrong with reserves. And thus, Alfred the Sunkern joined..no, he went straight to the box.

Afterwards, since I was blocked (I was always being blocked by someone, didn't I?) by another old man, I went to Flocessy Ranch. And there, I met..a Riolu! So that's the fortune's payment for giving me a Sunkern. Anyway, long story short, I also captured him. Named him Anubis, since he looks like Anubis. Then I whip..err..trained the team some. Haha. After that, we went further only to meet..Hugh. Oh well. Another bothersome battle. Long story short, Sheamus made some pork steak out of the opponent. Again. When will they learn? Then the ranch owners came. And they were relaxed as hell. They were facing two trespassers and they weren't even worried? And it looks like they lost a Herdier. And they were still relaxed. Hugh, on the other hand, panicked. And thus the GetBackers was born. Just kidding. Anyway, we searched for the missing dog, running across some trainers along the way. I was raining critical hits on my opponents. What a lucky day, disregarding Alfred.

Then, after searching, I was able to find Herdier..being dognapped. By a weird man in a medieval-style costume. In any case, he called himself a member of Team Plasma. What's that? And long story short, he was able to escape. After throwing an item. Well, Herdier was fine and he was able to return. Obviously, Hugh was in a mood for a sermon.

The road was still blocked by the idiot hiker. Oh well. Time to return to Flocessy Town. After all, the weirdo old guy was waiting..with two youngsters. Another set of opponents. Well, Sheamus ripped them off. After that another weirdo guy blocked my way and forced me into joining their event. I DON'T NEED YOUR USELESS MEDALS!!! I went away afterwards for some training. And box for Anubis (since I want him to have Nasty Plot and he'll get it after a long time.)

Yeah, training arc is boring. Well, I need to be sure of my chances. Along the way, the old bat blocked my way again (what's with his suicidal tendencies? And he survived such a fall? -_-) to give me...some berries. Yeah, that will be helpful. After grinding, I went back to Aspertia City to face the new gym leader. Turns out its a teenage teacher. WTF. Anyways, he introduced himself as Cheren and I need to wipe the floor clean of trash (or trainers, whatever) before I face him. What a conceited man. Anyway, Sheamus barged his way to the stage. I healed (of course), equipped some Oran berries then faced the gym leader. And I nearly lost Sheamus. If I didn't equipped him with an Oran Berry and used some Potions and the Fresh Water, he would be. What's with their attacks?

Got the Basic Badge (yay!) then went out of the gym only to meet..Bianca. And Cheren seems to know her. Then Prof. Juniper called. Blah, blah, blah. I was too excited to proceed to the next gym to care. So I went to the other part of Route 20, and slaughtered all the trainers out there, including the cocky hiker. While doing that, Louise evolved. Yay! Then I came to Virbank city to see..two weirdos. One was a girl who looked like a granny with her white hair. Another was a funky old man. Well, it looks like the girl was the Gym Leader. And the funky guy was a sailor/aspiring actor. Whatever.

I went to south to find..grass. Yay. Anyway, I saw and I caught a Magnemite. Named it Tesla. Anyway, looks like he's the emotionless type. Just like a machine. Hey, he's a machine! Afterwards, I came inside the Virbank Complex, went directly to the dark grass (since I have a good chance to encounter a good Pokemon there) and I met a Growlithe. Louise and Tesla almost lost their lives (I am an idiot. Seriously. Why did I sent out a Steel-type in front of a Fire-type? Luckily, Tesla has Sturdy.), I wasted some Pokeballs, Growlithe's life is in red zone and still cannot be captured. How annoying. Luckily, the third one had done the trick. I named him Watson. He's one bad ass of a side kick, I might say. Hoho.

Got lazy so that's it for now. Maybe I'll train them later. -_-

Hello, just posting to say I failed miserably in my quest to beat the Nuzlocke in Blue Version. My Wartortle died in Mt. Moon as well as my Magikarp to a Lv. 16 fricking Raticate. I tried to catch a Bellsprout, and succeeded, until it died as well on Route 25. It was just my Butterfree and a derpy Lv. 13 Pidgey I caught against Misty, and... I think you guys know what happened. Anyways, take me off the list, I failed really badly.

BaroNight February 3rd, 2014 5:32 AM

I forgot to add that this is done in Challenge Mode. Haha. And I had lots of free time. For now. Anyway..

2nd Update:
Spoiler:
Grinded to perfection. Demolished the gym. Strucked the audience. Beaten the Team Plasma wimps.

I thought Tesla can do the job of demolishing the gym alone but Roxie's Grimer, well, had a good move. A few Mud Slaps nearly killed Tesla. So Sheamus took over while I healed him but I didn't expected him to finish it with a single <Return>. Haha. Anyway, got the badge!

On the other hand, Pop Roxie was a freaking idiot. He doesn't know which are the good lines. And I am born a acting prodigy. Hihi.

Anyway, I chased some thugs who thought they could steal my Pokemon only to be beaten by Sheamus the ever watchful guard (and evolving in the process) and went to Castelia City. Yay! New gym.

Update #12

Route 18:

Caught a Pupitar and named him Trex. Got all of the items laying around the map and defeated the trainers.

Terminus Cave:

Caught a Graveler and named him Rocky (original, right?). Got all of the items and defeated the trainers.

Couriway Town:

Got all of the items in the North part of town, and then battled the Professor. He killed Paula (thought she could one-shot Venusaur with a Psychic). Took out his Pokemon and went back to the Pokemon Center. Put Paula in the dead box and grabbed Dodger again. Taught Dodger the move Flamethrower in preparation for the Ice gym.

Caught a Poliwag while fishing. Named her Gawilop. Leaving her in the bank most likely.

*A personal one for me- Randomizing my ,the rival and the pokemons' names via a site.

So as i said, randomizing my name and got Neemias...greek name, masculine, love it!
My rival is named Conrado.
My starter is Turtwig, and after i saw he was a boy, he was named "Stig"...idk what that name means LOL. Anyway, i got my pokeballs, and went back to 201 to catch a lil pokemon, and it's a...Bidoof. Yay..? I guess i have to, so i caught him and named him "Radoslav".
I also caught a female Shinx on 202 and her name is "Zisel".
After getting the watch thing, i was off tro route 204, catching a Starly, male, named "Sakari".
Then i was doing some grinding and battling to the 10s, finally changed my text speed (that was horrible, all the mediumness)...got a female Zubat at ravaged path, her name is Nastya.
I beat up Conrado on 203 and then went to 218 and caught a Magikarp, female, named "Xiu", then went back to Jubilife, boxed her and returned to 203. I didn't catch anything because i've ssen the same pokemon 3 times in a row, meaning i can't catch anything else on this route...damn abras teleporting.

Pretty productive day, caught 6 pokemon,5 in-party and one boxed:

Gonna do a party update next time!

Blastin'Tyruntz February 5th, 2014 6:44 AM

Yo i'm back with some more Pt Nuzlocke!

episode #2-That's Nasty(a)

So after the Abra incident on 203, i continued to train up and caught a Psyduck on Oreburgh gate, named "Evgeniy". I battled some trainers in the cave and came to Oreburgh, only to find out the leader, Roark, isn't there. So i went and caught a female Ponyta on 207, nicknamed "Sasha". I also caught a Geodude in the mine named "Shelly".
The fight was bitter-sweet, because we won the badge (1/8)..but lost Nastya the Zubat. Not a very valuable team member but well...still.
So it marks our first death and first major win.
R.I.P...
I put Shelly the Geodude on the team instead for the Rock-smashing, and replaced Evgeniy with Sasha.
I met team Glactic for the first time and defeated their...stupid ass pokemens.
Sakari evolved into a Staravia! YAY!

3RD UPDATE:
Spoiler:
4 days worth of updates. Here I go!

I went to the gym, only to see that there's no gym leader. Sucks to have an artist as a gym leader. Then a girl took me to the sewers. Then, Hugh came and proposed a tag team. Ok. Then we saw some bats. I was able to catch one of them. Seriously, teaming up was a huge mistake. Pignite almost killed them all. Anyway, I named the Zubat Vladimir.

In any case, I ditched Hugh and train my new Pokemon. Then we came back and abused Hugh's healing capacity to train again. Also knocked out some trainers. Then we saw what we came for, the Team Plasma. And they have the guts to try to steal our Pokemon. If they can. What happens after was a R-rated show. Simply put, I butchered them (since all his Pignite did was to use Defense Curl). Teaching them Return was a wise investment. After that, we met Burgh and another weirdo scientist with a hair style that rivals Alder. IT'S NOT NATURAL, I TELL YOU!!

I went to Relic Passage next, used 2 Repels and a dust storm came. Whell, those Repels really paid off. I was able to meet a Drillbur. With Sheamus's Confuse Ray and Hypnosis, I was able to wittle his life and a Pokeball did the rest of the job. I will place him as a reserve for now. I named him George. After that, we wiped the Relic Passage. Hehe. Then we came out to the blocked staicase to find that idiot guy blocking the stairs gone. Oh well. Time to explore.

I find..a park. Well, it looks like a park. Oh, a patch of dark grass. I met a Rattata and..an Eevee! Then the next move was obvious. Knock out Rattata, inflict status on Eevee, then capture! Not as easy as it sounds though, since he nearly killed Tesla with some crits. Well, since paralysis is not an option lest Tesla died, Sheamus came and lulled him to sleep. But still, escaping from two Pokeballs is annoying. But the third one did the trick. And he was named Jasper.

After that, I grinded my Pokemon further, then went to the gym. Vladimir was able to nearly solo it. Dwebbles were taken care of Tesla. And he evolved while inside the gym. Twice. So, I faced Burgh with a nasty Crobat on my side. And he never failed to disappoint me. Though I've given the honor of knocking out Leavanny to Watson. And thus, Insect Badge, get!!

Then we went to Route 4. On the way, that scientist with weird-ass hair came and challenge me to a battle which, fast forward, he lost. Oh well. And he removed the blockade which are Pokemons called Crustle. Evolution of that annoying rock bug (Dwebble). And he was able to chase those away with a device. Then I cleared the ruins and while searching, I saw in an open space..a Braviary (Yeah, it was still Monday when I did this). I immediately send out Tesla, who promptly paralyzed him and whittled his life away. Threw 3 Pokeballs in total before he finally complied. And he was named Connor. Guess where I got that name.

I passed by the Desert Resort and saw..a Sandile. Perfect. It's been a while since I used one so he'll be joining. That is if I can catch him. Well, I did with the help of Sheamus. And because he had that bad-ass look, he was named Alphonse. But again, we need to make Jasper evolve. So after that, I skipped the interior and went immediately to Nimbasa City to have fun. But instead, I saw a businessman offering me one of his schemes for getting rich. No please! I had enough of that. But still, that offer looks..lucrative. Hoho. And thus, is how I became the owner of Join Avenue.

I went to Nimbasa City, gained the Soothe Bell, passed by Route 5 to buy some berries but ending up facing a Minccino. Tesla faced him and after a few seconds, he went straight into the box with the name Steve. Then we cycled, I fed Jasper some berries and knocked some wild Pokemon. Then after some time, HE EVOLVED! Yay! I now have an Espeon! (And yes, he evolved in daytime.) After that, I deposited Tesla and Vladimir. Welcome, Alphonse and Connor!
And I grind.

Right now, I'm back at Route 4, sweeping what I've forgotten to sweep.

Name: Mr. Friendly

Mr. Friendly finally decided it was time to leave his mothers attic. This was of course only because Grace (his mother) managed to secure Mr. Friendly a pokemon of his own. After feeling like an outsider at a table with a bunch of immature youngsters Mr. Friendly headed out with his new pokemon Boppi.

Soon after learning how to catch pokemon (as if the 28 year old couch potato hadn't looked this up on the internet at least once) he caught himself a little racoon guy he nicknamed ZigZag and then promptly decided to never use again.
His hopes down trodden he moved into Viridian Forrest. Wait, what? Ok, not Viridian forrest and caught himself a little red bird pokemon, TweetsMcGee became his new favorite pal!

On the other end of the forrest Tweets and Mr. Friendly found ZaZa a little blue gal with a big ball dragging behind it as if it was a convict. But Mr. Friendly could sense Huge Power within ZaZa and so took her along. Boppi had a very negative nature and was killing Mr. Friendly's vibe so he quickly moved Boppi to the back where he played no part in Mr. Friendly's glorious victory over Viola, the bug type gym leader.

Update #13

Route 19:

Caught a Quagsire and named it Sir Swagz. It died relatively fast to a trainer with a Gardevoir... completely spaced that they have Grass-type moves. RIP buddy.

Route 20:

Caught a Gothorita and named him Nails. He evolved after gaining a level. Modest/Competitive, very sweet... aaaand died to a trainer in the woods. Another case of forgetting a Pokemon learns a super-effective move. *sigh*

Pokemon Village:

Caught an Amoonguss and named it Toad. Not exceptional at all, but a good replacement for...

Snowbelle City:

Beat the gym, but Blossom died. She could have taken another Ice Beam to the face, but the lucky SOB got a crit on her. She was a great Pokemon, but everything dies in Nuzlocke :/

Replaced her with Toad and hopefully he can do a good job. (EDIT: Toad's Hidden Power is Ice! Totally going to destroy dragons with this guy)

Wow the hardest part of this challenge sounds like the beginning since you have to release your starter! Is there a recommended game to do this for?

Update #14

Victory Road Entrance:

Lost Rocky to the gatekeeper (Raichu has Grass Knot? Ok...). I was suspecting a trick, but forgot I didn't have Sturdy on Rocky :(

Route 21:

Caught an Altaria and named her Skyler. Defeated all of the trainers and collected the items. Did a lot of grinding on my backup Pokemon and Skyler.

Victory Road:

Caught a Druddigon and named him Red-Head. Likely not going to use him at all. Got all of the items and defeated all of the trainers. Poised to finish the challenge today (wish me luck)!

Update #15

Elite Four & Champion:

Siebold: Lil' Boo was my Lead. Siebold led off with his Clawitzer. Lil' Boo took a few Dark Pulse attacks to the face (scary), but I spammed Seed Bomb and was able to take it out (and Siebold wasted all of his Full Restores on it). Switched out on Gyrados, into Toad, and then into Thumper (Toad wasn't taking hits well). Thumper took out Gyrados with a few Double-Edge attacks. Barbacle came in and I swapped into... Toad I believe. Starmie came in and I switched to Skyler, but after seeing the Dazzling Gleams coming my way, I went into Lil' Boo again and took it out with Seed Bomb.

Wikstrom: Led off with Lil' Boo again. Wikstrom led with Klefki. Klefki laid out some Spikes and Lil' Boo kept spamming Flame Charge, until the Torment happened. Tossed out a Leech Seed and then switched between Flame Charge and Shadow Sneak. Eventually took out Klefki (Wikstrom wasted all his Full Restores on it). Stayed in on Aegislash and actually managed to survive a few Shadow Claw attacks, while getting Leech Seed heals and switching between Flame Charge and Shadow Sneak while healing. Stayed in on Scizor, but had to swap in Thumper when Lil' Boo was taking too much damage (and she couldn't use Flame Charge due to Torment). Thumper took out Scizor with a few Bulldoze attacks. Stayed in on Probopass and a few Bulldoze attacks easily took it out.

Malva: Led off with Thumper. Malva led with her Pyroar. Took a Fireblast to the face and thought Bulldoze would 2HKO, but it didn't (Pyroar used her Noble Roar on the first turn). Had a free switch into Skyler when Malva used a Full Restore. Took out Pyroar with a few Dragon Pulse attacks. Torkoal came out and I stayed in and took it out with two Dragon Pulse attacks. Talonflame came out, so I went into Thumper again. Healed him up and took the Brave Bird easily. Talonflame switched to Flare Blitz, which started to do some damage, so I had to heal once more in between missing with my Stone Edge attacks. Chandelure was her last Pokemon and I switched into Skyler and finished it with Dragon Pulse.

Drasna: Led off with Dodger (taught her Ice Beam for some dragon killing). Drasna led off with her Dragalge. Took Dragalge out with three Psycho Cut attacks (Full Restore boo). Altaria came out for Drasna. OHKO with Ice Beam. Druddigon came out and went to half from another Ice Beam... and then killed Dodger with Revenge (oops). Sent out Skyler again and took Druddigon out with two Moonblast attacks (used her last Full Restore). Noivern was tough, but I won the Dragon Pulse battle by healing Skyler a few times (Leftovers helped a lot).

Diantha: Led with Skyler. Diantha led with Hawlucha and I took it out with one Moonblast. She sent out Aurorus. I foolishly stayed in with Skyler, but Aurorus missed with three Blizzard attacks (nice). I wasn't doing much damage at all with Dragon Pulse, so I should have switched, but I gambled that Diantha would use a Full Restore on it... she didn't. Skyler finally went down (from full health) to a Blizzard. Switched into Thumper and took Aurorus out with a Bulldoze. Diantha sent in Tyrantrum and I switched to either Lil' Boo or Toad. I think I swapped out into another Pokemon after seeing the Crunch attacks; probably Thumper. I think Tyrantrum killed itself from Rocky Helmet damage (so yeah, probably Thumper). Gourgeist came out and kept using Phantom Force, and after I got tired of that I switched into Quacklin' to cancel the attack. Took Gourgeist out with a Brave Bird. Diantha sent in Goodra and I switched into Thumper expecting a Thunder attack. Thunder attack as predicted, but then Goodra switched to Focus Blast (yikes). Was taken down to 1 HP and switched back into Quacklin'. Quacklin' survived the Focus Blast and I healed it up before taking out Goodra with another Brave Bird. Diantha sent out her Gardevoir and I chanced not getting recoil death on Quacklin' and used Brave Bird to win the match.

Progress log #2:

Spoiler:
  • To begin with, went to Route 32, where there is a patch of grass before the man who gives you the Miricle Seed. Managed to catch a Mareep; nicknamed 'Deckard'
  • Trained Deckard up to level 10 in order to learn Thundershock, in preparation for Falkner's Gym.
  • Went to Sprout Tower - unfortunately during the day, so no Gastly for me - although I did catch a Rattata, nicknamed 'Rattette'
  • Reached the top of the tower, met Peter, and fought and defeated Elder Li (hahaha....). Walked out afterwards and healed.
  • Headed over to the Ruins of Alph. Along the way, met Arthur and he gave me a Hard Stone, perfect for the Rock-type I don't have yet -_-. I also received HM06 Rock Smash from a random person.
  • Entered the Ruins itself and solved the very easy sliding puzzle (G/S/C was definitely harder). Caught an unknown, nicknamed 'Greek'
  • Healed at the Pokemon Centre, gpt a few Potions, and finally went to the Gym. Easily defeated Falkner's underlings, before facing the man himself. Pidgey was easily taken care of using Deckard. For Pidgeotto, I continued to use Deckard, and paralyzed it, before Growling to weaken its attacks. Afterwards, went in for the kill, and realised that Growling was pointless. Ohh, well.
  • Left the Gym with my shiny new badge, got Egg/Kimono Girl events out of the way, and went to Route 32 proper.
  • Defeated all of the trainers and wild Pokemon easily, making sure to keep my team as equal in levels as possible. Along the way, stopped in the Pokemon Centre, and got the Old Rod, which I will make sure to never use.
  • Entered Union Cave, and my first encounter was a Geodude, nicknamed 'Geode'. Was hoping for a Sandshrew, but meh. Retrieved all of the items (including hidden), and fought all the trainers.
  • Eventually reached Azalea Town, where the nefarious Team Rocket were clearly exerting their influence. Naturally, once I healed my team, I brought a few more Pokeballs and went back to Route 33 to catch a new Pokemon. Turned out to be a Hoppip, nicknamed 'Dot'.
  • Now I decided to talk to Kurt, who promptly rush out to the Slowpoke Well and hurt his back. I followed, and managed to catch myself a Slowpoke, nicknamed 'George', on the fifth encounter! Otherwise, my chance would be gone, for a while at least.
  • Kicked Team Rocket, including their leader Executive Proton, out of town, just in time for Kurt's back to make a 'miraculous' recovery after I had already done all the hard work. -_-
  • Kurt took me back to his house, and offered to make some custom Pokeballs. Left, healed up, and did some training on Route 33 in preparation for Bugsy's Gym. During this, Deckard managed to evolve into a Flaaffy.
  • Entered the Gym, and Sparrow kicked its ass, with a little help from George. Healed, brought some more Potions and Antidotes, and fought the man himself.
  • Lead with Sparrow, who did some damage, but not before that Scyther almost 1HKO'ed her. Switched to Deckard, and used Thunderwave to slow the beast down before Thundershocking it. Once it got to half-health, the stupid Sitrus berry was used.
  • And then, almost inevitably, Scyther used U-Turn on Deckard, and Deckard was knocked out! Whilst Bugsy switched to Metapod, I used George for some easy experience, although it took a while due to George's low stats.
  • With the Metapod dead, Bugsy switched back to Scyther whilst I went for Ferret, who had evolved into a Furret during all the fighting that I had done. Fortunately, Scyther was still paralyzed, and didn't use U-Turn again, so I was able to use Quick Attack's to wittle Scyther's health down - after Bugsy used a Super Potion, of course.
  • His last Pokemon was a Kakuna, and I used Slowpoke and Watergun to wear the Pokemon's health down. Bugsy finally admitted defeat, and I was the winner, although not without a loss.
  • Taking my new badge, I left the Gym and healed, but not before depositing Deckard into the Death box on the PC.
  • Making my way towards Ilex Forest, I was interrupted by Peter, who went on a rant about Team Rocket and me being weak, before fighting me again.
  • He lead with Gastly, me with Sparrow. Easy. His next Pokemon was Quilava, whilst mine was George. I managed to put it to sleep with Yawn and spammed Watergun. Although Quilava woke up, it only used Smokescreen before being defeated, which seemed to have no effect at all. His final Pokemon was Zubat, so I switched back to Sparrow. However, Zubat confused Sparrow, so I swapped her out for Ferret, who managed to deal the finishing blow.
  • After Peter's second defeat, he disappeared somewhere, and I made my way to Ilex Forest. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to encounter a new Pokemon in the area. However, the Mystery Egg hatched, giving me a Togepi, nicknamed 'Stein'.
  • Whilst in the forest, I encountered the apprentice who had lost the two Farfetch'd, so I was sent to find them, which was easy enough. I went back, and was rewarded with HM01 Cut, which I promptly gave to Ferret, along with Rock Smash.
  • Saved my game.

Daydream February 23rd, 2014 2:29 PM

Username: Daydream

Game: Pokémon Y

Optional Rules:

- Wonderlocke: Every Pokémon that I catch is immediately Wonder Traded.
- No Starters/Gifts: My starter and any gifted Pokémon are boxed at the first opportunity.

Update #1:
Spoiler:
Started my adventure! Chose Chespin. After the initial adventure preparation stuff I went and caught myself a Fletchling, which was immediately Wonder Traded for a Level 1 Absol! Lucky first trade there! Once Absol was precariously trained a couple of levels, I continued onwards.

In Santalune Forest, captured the first Pikachu I encountered. Pikachu was Wonder Traded for a Level 7 Purrloin… Less thrilled about that one. Nonetheless, I battled through the forest and saw no fatalities.

Purrloin viciously savaged a young Azurill on Ouvert way, meaning no trade there. So I battled on with my team of two, Absol being paralyzed by the static of a wild Pikachu on the way. Aggressive children faced me at every turn of this route.

Made it to Santalune City. Healed up.

Bought a hat and a pin. Gotta be stylin’.

Won me some Roller Skates.

Caught the first Psyduck I encountered on Route 22, he was Wonder Traded for a Level 2 Caterpie! As Butterfree is one of my favourites, I’m pretty happy about this one.

Whilst my team undertook drills in preparation for the oncoming battle against Viola, Caterpie evolved into Metapod, and then Butterfree. Yay for fast-evolving bugs!

Butterfree battled hard, sending dizzying Confusion attacks the way of Viola’s Surskit, eventually causing the pond skater to faint. Purrloin ended up trapped by Vivillion’s Infestation, and despite my best efforts, is no longer with us.

That leaves us with just Butterfree and Absol for the trek to Lumiose City!

Team Status is as follows:

Butterfree (F), Level 12

http://i62.*.com/fz3tac.gif

- Poison Powder
- Sleep Powder
- Confusion
- String Shot

Absol (M), Level 16

- Detect
- Leer
- Pursuit
- Quick Attack

I *might* do a Nuzlocke in Black 2... Yet, I need a recommendation for my Starter choice.

Choose paper, rock, or scissors and I'll choose for you :)

I would want it to be whichever one typically hits hardest and/or lasts longest.

Sandslash Fan February 25th, 2014 8:10 AM

Tepig gets some nice moves and access to Flame Charge without TM. Can sweep without much effort. Gains a lot of common weaknesses when it evolves though (Fire/Fight).

Oshawatt (sp?) looks like a good choice too.

I am running Snivy on my B/W 2 game, and I am confused on whether it wants to be a special or physical attacker.

EDIT: You could also just not keep the starter once you've caught your first Pokemon. That's one of the optional rules :)

Some people pick their starter by the last digit of their ID No. 1-3 is Grass, 4-6 is Fire, 7-9 is Water, 0 is your choice. Ever since Marriland did that in his Emerald Nuzlocke, i've always went by that method because I think it's a nice way of choosing your starter for you.

Kung Fu Ferret February 25th, 2014 10:05 AM

I picked Tepig.

Unfortunately, my DS emulator is being a pain. I'll have to postpone my Platinum Nuzlocke (almost at 2 badges now) until an update/fix is up

This post is a question about my Platinum Nuzlocke (yes, the same one from New Years'). I just caught a Shiny (Hoothoot for what it's worth) and I'm unsure of the rules regarding Shinies. Do I have to figure those out myself?

If I have to choose, then I'll allow the Shiny to be used in battle. This Shiny has the privelage to be Revived once and only once, until it goes into the Box for good. I can DM if necessary.

Username: Dontstay96
Game: Platinum
Optional Rules:
You must nickname all of your Pokemon. (highly recommended)
You must change the battle style to SET.
You may not use legendary Pokémon. (I'll catch Giratina, but not use it, If one of my pokes faint in the catch, it will be boxed forever)
After the first wild Pokémon was caught, you must release your starter.
Bulbapedia rules:
Species/Dupes Clause: Adjusting the first encounter rule to ban duplicate captures.
As an extension, setting a limit on how much Dupes Clause can trigger in an area. If that limit is reached, no Pokémon can be caught in that area. (If the first encounter is a dupe I'll have another try, if the seccond encounter is a dupe too I won't catch any pokemon in that area, unless I want to catch the dupe, of course)
My Rules:
I won't use any gift pokemon (Riolu egg, Bebe's Eevee etc.).
I won't use Rotom.
OH, by the way does the challenge end when I defeat Cynthia?

- I started my game, named myself "Nuzlock" and my rival "Barry".

Decided to do a Biblical Nuzlocke myself. I haven't really thought of all the rules yet, and really, this is my third Nuzlocke of the same Game (as in, in one - two weeks I've done three nuzlockes, RIP my shiny Fletchling). Don't worry, I'm not a religious person, so I won't be throwing out religious beliefs and the like. This doesn't restrict itself to just one religion, so it should appeal to everyone, religious or otherwise.

Biblical Nuzlocke III

Username: machomuu

Game Challenged: Pokemon X

Optional Rules:
Spoiler:
  • Every Pokemon and the MC must be named after a biblical figure. Nuzlocke attempts 1 and 2 only.
  • Every Pokemon and the MC must be named after a Religious Figure.
  • Upon reaching the first PC, assuming you have at least two pokemon, the starter must be boxed.
  • No healing during battle, this includes status-healing items.
  • You can only heal at a Pokemon Center three times until the gym in the next city is beaten, afterwards the town/city's Pokemon Center can be used freely.
  • As a mercy rule, the player is allowed one pokemon. Afterwards, a white out/black out is game over.
  • Gifted Pokemon are not allowed to be used in battle, and instead must be boxed in a box named "Heathens/Demons" or released. Contrarily, if the player wishes, they can use Heathens as HM slaves.
  • Should the player wish to use Heathens, the player may invert the above rule and, as a result, only use Heathens/Demons in battle and use Angels (caught Pokemon) as HM slaves. Do note that if Heathens are used, the Pokemon Center cannot be used for healing BUT the player can use items in battle and the mercy rule is extended to two retries.
  • In a similar case of the above two rules, should the player wish to use the captured legendary, they may only use the legendary and no other pokemon (this includes HM slaves). As a result, both the Pokemon Center and Battle Items are prohibited.

It's still a rather prototypical challenge and I'm still trying to think up rules that make it more religious, but these are the optional rules for the current playthrough.

Log:
Spoiler:
This playthrough will be documented in something of a first person, in-character style. Probably not the whole way through, though.

A New Journey - Biblical Nuzlocke Part 1

"What's wrong?" my female competitor, Shauna, says to me as I eye my white collared Froakie. I didn't know what it was, but something about it's rubbing me the wrong way. I almost don't want to use it, but I have no idea why. It's probably just jealousy; after all, it has more facial hair that I do and I'm already...um...How old am I? Well, I don't have much time to dwell on the matter as Shauna's Fennekin uses Ember. The battle ends pretty quickly thanks to my type advantage, and after the battle we part ways.

After the battle I say goodbye to my mom, and stock up on potions and pokeballs, all the while thinking "When can I box this darn Froakie?" It's funny, because I've seen Froakies before and I liked them, but this one...eh, it's no big deal. I capture a Pidgey on Route 2.

Suddenly I had a flashback of this same thing happening before. Just standard deja vu, probably. Anyway, I make my way through the Route and then towards the Santalune Forest. I heard the place was known for its Pikachu, and I'm pretty excited to catch one, but what I really want a Caterpie. C'mon, look at 'im. C'mon. Heck, even a Weedle would be good, I'm always down for a Beedrill. Or maybe even a Flet-

http://www.pkparaiso.com/imagenes/xy/sprites/animados/panpour.gif

"..." Ignoring yet another bit of deja vu, I catch the pokemon and name it Isaac. Still, I'm speechless. This won't help me against the leader...or any other pokemon on the route (especially not pikachu). Is there some sort of curse on me or something? Do I just attract pokemon that are weak against Electric-Types? I mean sure, there was one time when I accidentally put a fork in a power outlet once, but that doesn't mean I need to have a team of anti power outlet pansies!

I calm myself...barely, and continue out towards the next route, catching a Fletchling on the next route that I name Bhunivelze. It's not the name of a real religious figure...but it's god, albeit in a fictional religion. I make it to Santalune city and box Bhuni, realizing there's no need for two Flying-Type pokemon at the moment, and I decide to go to Route 22. Bad idea. What comes next is an absolute massacre by the most unlikely of foes. How can trainers be so nice to you after having killed your pokemon?

After capturing a Psyduck which I named Throne,I challenge a trainer of moderate strength. Unluckily for me, they had a Litleo and Isaac had yet to learn any Water-Type moves. It did have strength though, and it tore Sati apart. It was kinda like seeing that Fletchling that always comes by your house and sits outside your window suddenly be mercilessly torn apart by a Houndour.

...Actually, it was exactly like that, just with slightly different pokemon. I won the battle and put Sati to rest, unboxing Bhuni and continuing through Route 22. I completely underestimated Bhunivelze, she really held her own. Just like Sati.

Sad Face

Oh well, at least I still have Bhuni, the first gym will still be easy. Oh, this trainer has Riolu, simple for a Flying-Type. One Peck takes it down to the red, this'll be over as quickly as- wait, Counter?

COUNTER!?

...

Whelp, now it's just me and two water types against a Bug-type gym. Perfect. If it hadn't been for that Riolu and its Counter I'd at least have Bhunivelze, but nope. My luck, I guess. I (reluctantly) challenge the first kid to a battle and he sends out a Ledyba while I send out Isaac.

I'm able to lower the Ledyba's Attack with Play Nice but it easily has a stat advantage. And Supersonic. Oh, does it have Supersonic. Isaac goes down and so do my spirits. Even though I was disappointed when I caught him, he was with me for not much shorter a time than Sati. More than that, though, I only have one more pokemon, and it is barely more effective than Isaac. I'd already used it in the battle before, and it was a little worn thanks to some hits from Tackle and Supersonic. It was pretty much over. Ledyba used Comet Punch, bringing Throne down to one HP. Even with Water Gun, I'd still need two hits to take it down. Ledyba used Comet Punch again and sent the nearly dead Psyduck back to its pokeball.

...

...

...Or so I thought, but by some sheer AMAZING luck, Throne dodged out of the way and used Water Gun, finishing the job. I won. I won? DEAR CHRIST I WON! Completely have new found respect for Throne now. All I have to do is beat the gym leader. With one Pokemon. A Psyduck.

...Guess I'll be using that mercy rule earlier than expected.
