Physical or Strategy?
When playing the story line in Pokemon do you use strategy with your moves? Or do you just use the strongest attack you got over and over and not worry about anything else?
I'm more like the second one. I never use any move that raises my attack or lowers my opponents defense or anything. I just go straight to the Physical attacks. |
I'm more incline on the 2nd one too since setting up is not so important (for me anyway) since you can switch into their weakness (If ever) which is pretty much a better choice.
|
The first one of course for maximum damage. I used to to the second method when I started playing.
|
In-game, I use whatever my Pokémon's able to get their hands on; I usually don't rely on strategy. When battling online though, I do. d: If you don't, then chances of you winning battles would be quite low.
|
In normal playthroughs I just use the strongest stuff I can.
But in challenges like Nuzlockes and Monotypes, that's when you really need to strategize. |
I do like boosting moves, but in-game, I try not to use them. I guess the only reason not already mentioned would be to actually use my other Pokemon instead of actually sweeping.
|
I try to be strategic without being a jerk. I take what moves my pokemon have & don't force breed for anything in particular
|
I tend to going straight on using attacking moves, even though this don't apply on online battles.
|
I tend to focus on all-out damage but I sometimes do strategy every now and then.
|
Like most other people here, I tend to do the second one while in-game, but when playing online strategy is a must. The games themselves are easy enough that super effective hits are all that matter, most of the time. (Aside from level and stats of course.)
But yeah, in-game: 2nd, online: 1st. |
Type advantages coupled with power to me, usually. It gets me through the games so I never really thought to try otherwise!
|
I'd say that 75% of my battling during the story is jused based upon strength, with the other 25% being strategy (usually done in more important battles against rivals, Gym Leaders, etc.). I find as the older I get, the more I rely on strategic battling, whereas when I started 10 years ago attacking was all that was important.
|
I'll be compelled to go all-out, but we all know weaknesses/resistances are important, so it would be both. I form a team based on my instincts and then go all-out. :) Say, if you have a Grass/Poison type on your team, what were to happen if a Fire type were to appear, what would said Grass-type do? Which is why variety is important, there's always a type more than ready to match/surpass what you already interpret to be your strongest partner, so have 5 fighters that work around the flaws of your starter. (Or your strongest, in case you're a user that doesn't use his starter on his team.) There's no such thing as 'the world's strongest Pokemon', for even Xerneas or Mewtwo can lose.

I don't play online, but from what I hear you can't win with just raw power there ^^. |
When doing the main campaign I usually prefer to sweep. In battles against other players I like strategy better. Obviously though on some enemies in the game, strategy will be necessary. Especially against gym leaders and the Elite Four. I swap out Pokemon in my team a lot throughout the game, so my Pokemon are usually underleveled. So I always end up using at least some strategy.
|
I usually overpower my pokemon in play throughs. So the use of strategy moves is kind of moot at that point.
But with online play, I quickly learned that strategy was a must. It's almost a guaranteed loss if you don't have some kind of plan going for you. |
In game, I go straight to the attacks. On wi-fi, I use pure strategy. Most of my in game team Pokemon have diverse movesets, anyway.
|
When I first started playing my motto was "Power moves only!"
Physical was what I really cared about, but eventually I found out about the how the typing affects the fight, but still mostly cared about just wrecking everything I fought, but almost shortly after that I started playing strategically. So right now I do strategy |
I do both.
I pick the strongest attack and make sure it's a super-affective move :) |
In story mode, it's a waste of time to use strategic tactics because it doesn't take much to overpower your enemies.
Nonetheless, just to make things funner for myself, I'll purposely do things like Nuzzle+ElectroBall on Pikachu. Or that time I had a story mode Scrafty with Rest... I would encounter a weak thing in the grass, heal up, and shed skin to save money. Then I'd just replace the TM with something else. >.> That's a different type of strategy... hehe. |
Whether a Pokemon game or not, I rarely ever use strategy. I do not have the time or brain capacity to make decisions in-game within a minute XD So generally I level my characters up until the point where battles become way too easy and the whole difficulty of the game is next to nothing :P Just bulldozing through~
|
Physical IS my strategy.
For the most part- anyways. I like to mess around with stats and stuff when playing against buddies. |
I am somewhat of a battle tech. I love making movesets for Pokemon. With that being said I usually go for strategy. For example: my pidgeot has Toxic and at one point had protect. No one ever sees it coming. Strategy rules the world! :D
|
Usually just power through. I usually also only use one Pokémon until Gen 6 where I can Exp Share to my whole party. Most of the time just smash the whole game with my starter. Everything else is always so under leveled. If my Pokémon doesn't have good coverage against theirs, SPAM!! I always win. Always so over leveled main Pokémon, worthless secondary.
In short, I always mono Pokémon the games. Even with Charmander in Gen 1. Those first two gyms were always a pain... |
I was always physical. Like...I didn't give a crap about it and I just wanted to be done with the trainer I was battling with already and move on. As I began to battle competitively, I realize that strategy is more important. Hazards, weather, and status moves can boost your chances in a smooth battle. I'm going to try that soon in a Pokemon game.
