Post The Art Because I Don't Know!

So, usually when I join a new forum, I start an art thread. And usually, I never seem to be able to keep with it sadly, but I'll try my best with this. Anyway, I tend to work mostly with traditional mediums such as pencil, pen, watercolour and charcoal (Paint and I never get along), and since recently obtaining a graphics tablet, I've been working on getting my digital skills up to scratch. At the moment, I don't have my USB on me which contains most of my scans, so most of this first post will be digital art.

Constructive criticism is more than welcome, and is encouraged, as I do appreciate suggestions on ways I can improve an image, or my skills overall. But, you didn't come here to listen to me ramble on, so, behold the art.

Kane and Novella, Beast Forms
Spoiler:

I drew these two back in 2011, and while generally the more time between when I drew something and the current date, the less content I am with the image, I'm still really pleased with these, especially considering that they were done using a mousepad. Those things are evil, I swear. Anyway, these are the final or Beast forms of two characters I had for a RP back then on Serebii (I was under a different username at the time). All of the work here was done using the Burn/Dodge Tool.

The Hunter's Sword
Spoiler:

This is a copy of a tattoo I drew on the arm of a mate of mine while we were waiting for a train one night. The original wasn't this detailed of course (because the marker I had for it was huge), but having already drawn it, it gave me the opportunity to fine tune it as I wished. This is done in fine liner and various grey textas.

The Lotus Eater
Spoiler:
http://i40.*.com/35lwzs3.png

I was listening to Opeth's "The Lotus Eater" (which is an awesome song, in my personal opinion) and drew a quick sketch of this. Eventually, it wound up becoming photoshopped, as I wanted to try and play with the textures of the demon's skin and also to see if I could get a semi realistic water effect, which kind of worked. The only side note from this is, that glowy effects are fun, as are blood red eyes and very very sharp teeth.

Mega Scrafty
Spoiler:
http://i43.*.com/qzn2a9.png

This is a basically coloured idea for a Mega Scafty, while still being in character of an OC of mine. The basic idea of this Mega was that it gains the made up ability Gunslinger, which essentially gives the Pokemon temporary access to any bullet, cannon, or ball related moves (with the exception of Bullet Punch), while removing its ability to use punch related moves. It also gains an increase in Special Attack and Speed for this form. Is is completely impractical and probably useless in competitive play? Probably. Is a Scrafty with guns for hands too cool of an idea for me to care about that? Absolutely.

Pandora Genesis and Rosie Alias
Spoiler:

Again, more RP characters. Rosie isn't actually mine, but belongs to the friend of mine I was doing this with. Anyway, this was taking place in a rather apocalyptic future, with the main plot point being to overthrow the corrupt government (aren't they always?). The linework for these is quite sketchy, as I was just getting used to using the tablet for these as they were the first things I drew. Also, probably because when I draw, the lines tend to go everywhere as I basically scribble and form that into an image somehow, so its also a force of habit really.

Matt
Spoiler:
http://i41.*.com/wtizkl.png

If me and my friends were anime characters, this would be how my friend Matt would look in my mind. He has a "slight" gun obsession (note: There is no sarcasm in this thread), and as a result had to have something kind of ridiculous for a weapon, like a 50 calibre sniper rifle. Mainly because, there's no kill like overkill. The reason why I switched to cell-shading at this point in time, is because the way that the previous two images came out in terms of colour was bothering me a fair bit, so I figured I'd simplify it a bit to try and get the quality back up again to where it used to be. I quite like the look, especially the creases on his coat.

Oh, the trench coat he's wearing? It was originally white.

Tixen, AKA my current signature
Spoiler:

Yes, it must always be placed to the right. Anyway, I'm quite fond of the design of this particular character, whom I'm thinking of making my internet persona so to speak. Because, come on, who doesn't want an arm that can turn into a giant laser cannon? This is one of the few times I've played with light from other sources within the image, as I've just tended to neglect them in the past for no apparent reason. Its not exactly what I had in mind, but the effect works well enough to convey what I intended.

Its Chibi Time!
Spoiler:

http://i60.*.com/11kcn7p.png

My solution to having time to kill is to draw my friend and I as Chibis. For the record, I am the taller one. For this, I seem to have magically remembered exactly how I was doing that kind of sort shading style I was using before having a massive art hiatus. Anyway, its something I'm thinking of refining over time, because its fun basically.

That's enough from me, thanks for taking a look :)

Oh gosh I always love it when people draw there RP characters. I don't know why, maybe it's because the time they've spent being a "part" of the character and knowing them so well, but it almost always makes for the most fantastic art. Especially because it gets developed through intimate writing, as opposed to drawn where people tend to confuse depth with adding more detail. Very cool concept with your characters there. Also, I love your ability Gunslinger. It's genius! x)

Love all your artwork, but my most favorite would be Tixen. The way you did you coloring is very pretty, and they seem to go along with each other pretty nicely, too. My only suggestion, though, is that her cannon looks a little flat--maybe you could've done something to show that it's actually being pointed towards her back? Aside from that, I also really like "It's Chibi Time." So adorable. <3

I really love your art! I love the use of fine lines on the clothing, it really adds to the detail and thought of the piece. I do agree with Strawberry when she talked about RP characters- Like any character, you have to really know them, so I think how you draw them with such detail and effort is astounding and humbling for any writer, creative thinker or anyone really. I really hope to see more from you in the future!
