Is Reality TV Actually Real?
Do you think that reality TV is actually the real deal? Or is it all a fake?
The only shows that I believe are real are Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother. Everything else is super fake. |
No.
It's all fake, to say something more than what would give me an infraction. /thread |
It's fake. They plan the events to make for a good tv show. It's the only thing that makes sense.
Yeah, but do you guys think that any shows are real? :c
It's hard to determine nowadays what is real \: So easy to deceive the audience from behind the scenes. With that being said, I don't think there's a real TV show out there, but then again, I don't want too many shows to begin with.
I've heard that while a lot of them are fake, there are a few exceptions to the rule. For example, Big Brother and The Bachelor are as real as they can be. With Big Brother they do try to influence the winner from behind the scenes in some ways, but it doesn't always go as planned. However, Duck Dynasty and a lot of others are all actors.
Hmmm, I think some reality shows are fake, X Factor being one of them, it's not live and they usually have the winner chosen after auditions...
An Australian reality show called My Kitchen Rules I am not really sure if it is fake or not, I do believe they set up characters to be nasty and nice, but, the contestants could be just as b****y off camera, last year, the show was all pre-recorded and they filmed two different endings for the winners, the winner had to wait until the rest of Australia found out. However, I do believe the drama and scores are real. |
Contrary to it's name, reality TV hardly comes into contact with reality. :P
Reality shows are not actually real, at least most of the time. It's a common sense to many people I know.
I believe most reality shows are based off of something that actually happened, but are reenacted with scripts and actors and, of course, are heavily dramatized to make it more amusing for television.
Take Cake Boss for example. Yes Buddy and his family actually own a bakery in Hoboken. They really do sell cakes. But most (if not all) of what you see in the show is probably mostly acting for the camera. They really do make those cakes for clients but the constant fighting/jokes/etc is probably mostly for entertainment hehehe. I think documentaries are the only ones that use actual, real, raw footage, and even then a lot of documentaries will probably still dramatize it to get their point across stronger. Don't quote me on that though .-. |
It's the opposite of what it's supposed to be called.
Didn't they used to say WWE was "reality" and "not fake".
Reality shows r so fake its fake like Nicki Minaj
Most of the network ones are, but with production influence for ratings. It's not scripted or rigged - it's influenced in certain ways. Certain challenges are done to keep certain teams in, but it doesn't always work. Things backfire easily.
Then there's the casting... some of them try to find the craziest loonies they can to create drama. See: Last season of Big Brother. It was a hot mess and hilarious to watch if you didn't take it seriously. Where on earth do they find those people? |
I think reality TV is faker than Pamela Anderson's entire body. It's all scripted - the TV people are trying to make money.
Some of its real, but a lot of it is greatly exaggerated and things are taken out of context for more appeal and higher ratings.
My friend was on True Life, and he pretty much confirmed that for me. |
There was a local hotel that was on a hotel renovating show and the film crew pretty much set them up to fail. The host of the show was supposed to have guests in the restaurant for the food tasting at a certain time, but the customers actually showed up an hour late so all the food was cold and some of the lettuce wasn't as fresh as it originally was. In other words, the show made them look a lot worse than they actually were.
Ever since then, I've been wary about reality TV. Most of it is pretty fake, but sometimes it can be hard to tell. |
I'm pretty confident that 'reality' in the category title doesn't imply that everything is essentially real. I think the genre is supposed to feign reality but producers aren't going to let a show run absolutely mad so most things (I'm sure not everything is such) have to be scripted to keep things in line. Not using it as a reality TV example but rather an example of a mostly improvised show: Portlandia. It's a sketch comedy show, but the actors have a foundation of a script even though most of the acting is improvisation. I feel that's how most reality television works as well.
The closest we actually have to "Reality" TV is your basic sports game, and that's pretty much it. The rest of the time shows like Survivor and such tend to be scripted most of the time and are only trying to be hip and edgy to attract audiences.
Depends on the show. Most of the time it's clearly faked though.
Life is one big Truman Show.
I really dont like reality shows so i only catch a few glimpses here and there, but from what ive seen i think most of it is fake. The whole point is to get as much people as possible to watch, so most of the drama and all is fake to ensure audience
I highly doubt anything is real on tv anymore, but they make it real enough for me to actually try to think that the things they show are real, in the over end I highly doubt anything is real anymore. But if ever I find anything so realistically real enough, then maybe I might actually have hope in humanity.
I think most "reality" TV programs that are on these days are scripted in some way. Some others are just about completely fake, (Cheaters, anybody?) especially on 'documentary-style' shows where different people say nearly the same thing as one another.
Even those few that I've watched and actually enjoyed have been criticized as being fake in some way. It's just like how most of the quiz shows in the 1950s were rigged-sparking a major scandal that led to legislation banning the fixing of televised contests. However, this time, there likely won't be any government action against faking reality shows. |
The reality shows described sound much more like game shows. There's nothing real in reality TV.
