And really, now that Persona's an economically viable commercial name they can go back to doing whatever they want with it and count on a relatively large number of sales worldwide, especially thanks to the Golden Boom. I'm excited to see more of this game (and I'm incredibly glad it's coming to the PS3 as well. Fortunately, considering the franchise, I don't see the differences being too major or dealbreaking, save for load speeds). |
Yeah I'm glad it's also coming on the PS3 too without the risk of having too much drawback. If it was PS4 only that would probably be my cue to get one lmao. As of now, Uncharted 4 is the only game to interest me on the PS4, so I'm not in a hurry. (Well, and MGS5, but that's coming to PS3 as well although the downgrade will probably be obvious) I'll enjoy Persona 5 on the PS3 just fine, I bet.
I'm already in love with the protagonist and his persona. The phantom thief motif grabbed me really hard. I'm a sucker for those. |
Ahh the PS4...I've come to regret buying it at launch. I really hope when the Ratchet & Clank game lands this year that it'll be awesome.
Bought my first WWE game today. The 2014 game specifically. Given my past record with fighting games, it wasn't long before I got my butt handed to me. Controls take a bit of getting used to, but I will try to get the platinum trophy for this game. The catch is trying to find time to play it. |
Sadly I don't really play consoles so no Persona for me LOL.
Giving me Magic Kaito vibes though. On the other hand I hope the paper thin disguise doesn't have everyone going "WHO COULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS HIM" |
Chronicles of game-chasing
So, lately I've quit caring as much about getting awesome guitar gear for no reason and have revived my old true hobby of gaming. I've mostly been a handheld gamer all of my life and a retro gamer even moreso. I've lost/sold my collections many times before, but I'm restarting this rather expensive hobby. Let's all talk about awesome game finds, purchases and game chasing experiences.
I've recently been on a buying spree on ebay and bought the original japanese Puyo Puyo for gameboy complete in box for $10, the japanese pokemon red complete in box for $25, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (SEALED) for $16, Pokemon X for $25 (ouch), Mario Kart 7 w/o case or manual for $10 (buying a case on ebay for $3), Pokemon Black w/o case for $5 (a steal), Bravely Default w/o case for $20 (considering buying the case, but that will certainly raise the investment quite a bit) and finally Majora's Mask 3D. So much to play...yet I still want more. I guess I can finally play through Pokemon Gen 5. Not really including Steam, Virtual Console or digital download games on my list, but Shovel Knight definitely deserves an honorable mention. If you have any remotely fond memories of retro gaming, Shovel Knight will blow you away. It's the best rated 3DS game of 2014 for a reason. Let's also talk about the greatest youtube series of all time: the Game Chasers. Allow me to leave you with this picture: https://scontent-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10891744_873479349341803_4036062847580968099_n.jpg?oh=7247fd51b63c01886e2e3461a70decf1&oe=554ECE45 |

Oops I started playing games on my Android D:
|
Mobile games? My goodness, I haven't played any of those in a while, except for some of those endless runner games ala Temple Run. There have been some of those i've seen several variants of.
And will the Year of Gaming be returning anytime soon? |
I played some kind of RPG on my phone back in the day when I had a Windows phone, it was very basic but I could take my save from there and play it online though I never did. Other than that I just play mini games to waste time.
|
I kinda hate playing games on mobile. It's just so... Awkward.
|
I hate running low on lives in Mario games. So mood dropping.

Managed to get a new 3DS XL.
My old 3DS had a non-functioning L-button and the cost to repair it was $102, so I decided to sell it to Gamestop (keeping the L-button problem a secret of course) and ended up getting the better 3DS XL for only $20 more than I would've paid to fix my old one. |
My new 3DS XL was delivered to my house today (it's the Majora's Mask edition). Right now, I'm charging both of my 3DSs before I could begin transferring data. I'm not sure if the new 3DS XL will ask me to make a Nintendo Network ID, despite already having one myself, once you initially turn it on.
|
Quote:
If anyone knows how to link a new 3DS to an existing Nintendo ID, let me know, because it would save me a lot of money on VC games and Fire Emblem DLC. |
I was able to transfer all of my data from my old 3DS onto my new 3DS XL, including the games I've got from the ambassador program, so it's now just an empty shell.
|
Quote:
|
Well, I can live without the VC games since I wasn't really playing them much anyway.
Fire Emblem DLC is a no hassle, so I'll just start from scratch. |
I don't think that I'm going to be getting a New 3DS for some time.
|
I got the MH n3DS XL at launch. It's pretty similar to the old XL in size but it definitely seems more powerful, and the 3D is greatly improved. Transferring wasn't much of a hassle either.
|
I don't see any point in getting a New 3DS.
I don't do Amiibo, that second circle-pad looks too small for my thumb, and I'm not paying $200 additional dollars for a minor CPU upgrade. |
I've been thinking about upgrading but I just can't justify $200 for such a minor upgrade when there aren't even any games other than Xenoblade coming out for it - and I have Xenoblade already and haven't beaten it. I had planned on doing GS's trade in deal and trading in one of my old 3DSes, but since they only had enough for preorders, that didn't happen.
So I'll probably just wait and see if there are any exclusives coming out for it that interest me. |
I have an unopened Xerneas/Yveltal addition 3DS that I could trade in, but when I went last week it turns out I could only get the New if I had pre-ordered...which I hadn't. So it's not too likely that i'll invest unless there ends up being games exclusive for them, at least for the time being.
|
Quote:
|
I have a small 3DS and I'd like to have an XL, so getting a N3DS makes sense to me. I also really like the look of the red one and I want to play Xenoblade, so I'm sold on it.
|
I have a 2DS so I was really excited when they announced the new 3DS because I thought they looked great and I really liked the face plates. Then NOA screwed us and said they were only releasing the XL because they didn't want to confuse the market. Like, really? You called it the "New 3DS" which is the only confusing part about that entire release lmao. New is too common an adjective to use as part of your product name.
Anyway at some point I will likely get a New 3DS but I have Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii so I'd rather beat it on there. |
Quote:
|
I really don't know who thought the name was a good idea.
|
I still have my 3DS which I got on release day in 2011 and it still does its job pretty well. I also hope that it'll keep on working for quite a while, as I'm not really inclined to buy one of the New 3DS ones.
It's kinda funny, though, that I seem to be one of the few people who actually liked the original 3DS more then every later installment, like the 3DSXL or 2DS. |
Quote:
|
This is terrible! I was able to transfer all of my data from my old 3DS's SD card onto my new 3DS XL's micro SD card, but according to Mii Plaza, it doesn't have all of my saved data for the Mii Plaza games on my SD card, which I could've sworn was. Because of this, all of my saved data for the extra puzzles, since it was able to transfer my streetpass numbers, hats, and completed default puzzle panels. I don't know what to do! I have a back-up file on my computer, but I don't know it can't get transferred again. I can't enjoy my new 3DS XL anymore because of this. I wish I had a time machine to stop myself from using the XL and only use it as a collectable.
Edit: Nevermind, it turns out the micro SD card actually contained nothing even after the transfer, so I've transferred the files of my SD card from the PC onto it, and now all of my data from my old 3DS is intact, including my Mii Plaza data. |
I got my n3DS at launch and...fell victim to the unfortunate chance of factory defects. The inside of the Touch Screen has a small slit near the top which generally isn't too noticeable, but it's enough of an issue that I'm probably going to take advantage of the warranty. After all, I got the n3DS partially so that I could do with my 3DSXL that had a dead pixel in its top screen (making 3D less than attractive).
Though my n3DS did give me the drive to get back into Shin Megami Tensei IV, which is always good. Apart from that, I finally got to playing Danganronpa, which I bought almost a month ago, and I beat it just today. It was fantastic, I loved the hell out of that game. In a lot of ways, it feels like that game was tailor-made for me. I did have some gripes with it, specifically how easy and forgiving it was, but those issues were far from game breaking and regardless it was an all around great time. Loved the characters, loved the musical style, loved the art, loved the direction- it was just a pretty damn great game. I immediately bought 2 upon completion which...probably wasn't the best idea. I'm planning on buying Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires, so I don't really have a lot of money to be spending frivolously. Unless I can sell my old 3DS, at least. |
Does anyone know when they plan on restocking New 3DSes? It's kind of ridiculous that Nintendo doesn't make enough of an item to keep it in stock after launch. Did they not think that people would wait to use tax refund money to purchase them?
|
Yeah, same thing happened to me. If it takes a while for them to get more New 3DS systems into the storefront, then they might not see much progress on their statistical note.
|

I think Nintendo is just working on their supply chain, ironic as it sounds. Better to be short on inventory than waste space like they did with the Wii U. It's funny that it's taken people until recently to notice the go slow on the West Coast, considering it's been affecting things for months. |

I've spend the last couple days playing Paper Mario: Sticker Star.
Admittedly, I really liked the design of most of the worlds so far and the atmosphere was alright. But what I don't like are the puzzles and the hugh amount of backtracking that is neccessary in order to beat the game. Especially the bosses tend to be a hugh pain, some of them requiring certain items for beating them and if you didn't happen to find them while beating the level they're in, then have fun, looking for them. I kinda feel if they put less emphasis on creating new and funny looking thing stickers and instead focused a little bit more on a few of them and making the important battles more skill and less trial and error based (actual strategy as opposed to just spamming thing stickers at the boss), it could have been a lot better. Just got through World 4 and I'm on my way into World 5 now. |
Quote:
I don't know why Intelligent Systems had to muck up the Paper Mario games. 1 and 2 were masterpieces, but I feel they tried to 'experiment' too much with 3 and 4 (although I did like 3). I would be so happy if they stuck to what made the first two enjoyable. EDIT: Speaking of Paper Mario, has anyone seen the project called "New Paper Mario"? It's an HD retexture of the entire game, and it looks lovely. Apparently it's set for release in 2016. |

Pokemon and every other games that uses an external system as it's main gameplay element (all those menu based battle systems that force a screen transition) are a little bit more complicated, as those are really slow per design (which makes sense, because those systems are there to make you think what your next move shall be), but at least Pokemon gave you Fly and Repels to speed up the process. Taking that back to Paper Mario: Sticker Star; while there's no leveling system besides those HP-Ups that give Mario some more HP, over the course of the game, he still gets stronger by a little bit. So at some point he becomes strong enough to beat many of the enemies without being forced to battle them, by simply jumping on them or using his hammer. Unfortunately at the time you're getting there, you're pretty much past the point where it's important to you, anyway. I just wished, they put some marker into the game that indicates whether I've already found everything in a level, or not. |
Skyward Sword has a lot of backtracking.
Linearity isn't a negative provided the game is designed for it. The stigma against linear games these days is actually pretty ridiculous. Excessive backtracking can be worse than a linear game if it's not well designed. |
I find when it comes to backtracking in video games, there are two kinds. The two kinds being "good" backtracking and "bad" backtracking. "Good" backtracking is when you are able to go back to an area and still find items. Examples of "good" backtracking are certain games in the "Metroidvania" category of the Castlevania series. "Bad" backtracking is when you are able to go back to an area, but not find items that were there before. One such example of "bad" backtracking happens to be in Halo 3.
|
I really...wouldn't say Halo 3 is a good example of that since the campaign is fairly linear. (Yes you can backtrack but you practically have no reason to) That's actually underselling the good things about the game.
An example of bad backtracking would be unnecessary backtracking that exists purely for padding the game. Skyward Sword has that. |
Quote:
|
I'm pretty sure you can pick the order of the three dungeons after Lanayru Mining Facility which is the third dungeon in the game, but I honestly don't even remember.
Either way the dungeons are the highlight of Skyward Sword. |
Finally done with Sticker Star. I'm also hoping to get Shovel Knight in the near future, so that will probably be my next playing project.
|
So Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a legit game. It's actually really fun.
Frieza race is the best race. |
The dungeons in Skyward Sword were definitely the highlights - they definitely propelled it up the list of my favorite Zelda games. The time shifting puzzles in Lanayru were ingenious and the environment was so different from anything we've seen in Zelda yet. And even the "worst" dungeons were better than a lot of other Zelda games. I didn't mind the backtracking either, since there was usually something new to discover and a twist to the environment.
When I think of bad backtracking, the first game that comes to mind is Paper Mario: TTYD. I've still yet to beat that game because I get so tired of going back and forth, back and forth, across fairly mundane areas fighting the same battles over and over again. |
Quote:
...that, plus there are £20 primary account digital copies being sold on eBay. xD Also, if anyone wants examples of bad backtracking, I'd put forth the Metroid Prime games. They're fantastic titles, but those keys at the end...my GOD. Was it REALLY necessary to have those in there? I don't mind backtracking to explore old areas with new power-ups, but having to meticulously comb the entire map just to open the last area to finish the game...no. That can't be anything but poorly designed. |
Quote:
The story mode is your usual DBZ fare, but with various differences that makes it worth experiencing because of your character's addition to the story. (You're a time traveller trying to make sure history goes the way it should) Your character actually feels like a part of the plot with the canon characters properly interacting with you through dialog and cutscenes. There's also some fun twists present because of this. (The whole Ginyu Force arc was actually really clever and fun.) It's also fairly varied with its battle conditions so it doesn't get repetitive. The combat has surprising depth. It definitely supports different playstyles and you get a whole mileage out of different combos. It's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. One thing I particularly like is how there's a real sense of progression in that you definitely feel like your character is getting signficantly stronger. Often times when you get stuck in a mission, you go train a bit and come back to it finding it a whole lot manageable. Here's the differences between the 5 races that you can pick |
Was interested in the game as well, but that sounds like you're standard fare like you said, so thanks for clearing it up. I don't think I'll ever be interested in a DBZ game until something like the Legacy of Goku trilogy happens in 3D.
|
Thanks for that overview; I think I'm sold on it now. It actually sounds a lot like something I'd enjoy playing...it'd also get me into the DBZ franchise. I loved Dragonball, but I've only watched bits and pieces of Z (most of the stuff involving Frieza and Buu, plus the Broly movie) and I've been meaning to watch the lot of it, but just haven't been able to work up the motivation...this sounds like it'd ease me into it nicely. I can live with grinding, since most of the games I play require it...it can't possibly be any grindier than Disgaea. xD
Now I just need to decide whether I want to get a digital copy for cheap, or use the £25 I have on my GAME reward card towards a physical copy...decisions, decisions. |
Can I recommend TeamFourStar if you plan on watching DBZ? The abridged actually follows through with the story and has better characterization than the anime. (Which honestly is really bloated unless you plan on watching Kai). The first few episodes are rough but it gets really good when Nappa and Vegeta arrive.
They even got one of the voice actors from the abridged series in this game to use his Nappa voice as a voice option for your character. That's legitimately what sold me on the game. |
So from what I can gather from the link Spinosaurus posted, Saiyans are the Lightning Bruisers, Namekians and Majins are Stone Walls/Mighty Glaciers, Earthlings are the Jacks of all Stats, and the Frieza Clan are fragile Speedsters.
Now I regret not preordering the game, due to my low expectations, to get SSJ4 Vegeta and the additional costumes for your avatar. |
Saiyans are glass cannons and Frieza are quicksters more like. Frieza clan actually isn't fragile at all but they have weak attack power. Frieza clan is arguably the best though because their strengths overshadow their shortcomings. Speed in this game is a VERY good stat because of how open the environment is.
You know what, it's basically Dragon Ball + Destiny. Let's go with that. |
So... Dragon Ball Xenoverse is actually good? If it is I may need to check it out... I really had low expectations for the game.
|
I used to love Budokai games, but I've lost so much interest in the series since. :/ It really is a bummer cause some of those were truly great.
|
Honestly if you're a fan of DBZ you have no reason not to play it. Even if you aren't it's worth trying out.
It's top 10 on Stream right now. |
Too many games I want! Why does this always happen! New 'n' Tasty, Five Nights At Freddy's 3, and DBZ. I only had enough for FNAF3.
|
I've been playing Shovel Knight and so far, I really like it. I just managed to beat Spectre Knight, but that stage cost me so much money, because I kept constantly falling into some random pits. {XD}
|
I just beat EarthBound on the SNES! It was absolutely fantastic. It's one of the best RPGs for sure. But I still have a craving for more that's like it, or pretty much anything on the SNES. I might try out EarthBound Zero on the NES. Anyone played it?
|
I really disapprove of the new splash, 10/10 peed my pants.

^The new splash ain't scary.

The new splash made the whole thing actually even more unscary then it was before.

I like the previous splash better to be totally honest.

Majora's Mask 3D has been out for awhile now. I update it as games are released. If you'd like to see something new in the Splash though, VM me the image and I'll see if it even fits. Gotta fit. ;)

Oh, Rika's in the Gaming section? Welcome!
In regards to Dragon Ball Xenoverse, I bought it at launch and have no regrets. The voice direction is- oh, Spinosaurus seems to have gone pretty in depth with it. Whelp, nevermind then, I'll just say that the game is definitely a DBZ fan's game and, despite all the ideas included being new to Dimps, they handle it pretty well. The game only got better as I played and considering it was $50 instead of $60, it was a little to tantalizing to pass up. I'd certainly say it's better than the many Spike (specifically, Raging Battles 1 and 2 and especially the terrible Ultimate Tenkaichi) and Artdink (Battle of Z) games we've gotten recently. Quote:
Regardless of whether someone thinks the game's scary or not, that was a bad idea. I got out of horror because I'm an extreme overthinker, so it sticks. Been trying to avoid it ever since- which is sad, because I think it's a well-designed game and actually quite admire it, but if I see more of it I might actually die. |
It's funny how there's a backlash on indie horror games like Freddy's and Amnesia, when these are the same people who wish that the horror genre was back to its scary roots after an oversaturation of action horror games, which are not-so-scary, much like how they want pure original horror movies rather than sequels/remakes of previous horror IPs but are bashing Unfriended, which is an original horror flick.
So word on the street is that Rock Band is coming back from the dead. |

I know most people here aren't PC gamers, but no thread on Steam announcements? As in, zilch?
I'm definitely getting the Steam Controller. A Steam Machine is tempting, but the fact the most basic Alienware one starts at $479, and according to reviews of the Windows-based one it isn't too great, means it isn't a good investment at all. I think Steam Machines are gonna be good only if your primary goal with them is gaming. |

Majority of VG gamers consists of PC gamers =D |
What makes something scary is very much in the eye of the beholder. For me, Espurr is terrifying, for others he is cute. For me, the animatronics represent something from my childhood that has been bastardized into horrifying monstrosities. To another they might just be childish. Just because something doesn't scare YOU doesn't mean they aren't scary. I don't find Amnesia to be scary, and I'm sure most people on the internet would eat me alive for that opinion. Doesn't mean it isn't scary, it just doesn't bother me.

How much does the latest PS3 update take up?
Hey fellas. I'll be getting a PS3 in a month or so, and I want to insert a new hard drive and update the firmware to 4.70 by saving it onto a USB stick and inserting that into the console. But how much space will the USB stick need? Have a nice day.
|
Well, the online download for it is 197MB, so anything bigger than that really, although I think it'd probably be easier to just update the console directly...although I'm going to guess you have reasons for wanting to use a USB memory stick for it in the first place. Updates generally aren't very big, thank god.
