Which starters did you pick?
Which starter have you selected in D/P/Pt, and which did you choose in HG/SS? Are there any reasons behind choosing them? In Diamond, I chose Chimchar; personally, I found it to be the cutest-looking of all three. I went with Piplup in Pearl, and in Platinum, I chose Turtwig. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, I picked Cyndaquil and Totodile, respectively. If I had ever started a new game in either of these two, would've chosen Chikorita. d:
|
In Pearl, I used a Turtwig. A very reliable and heavy hitter. In Platinum, I changed it up to Piplup, because i wanted to use Roserade and not double up on types I went for nostalga in Soul Silver and went with Cyndaquil like in my original Silver!
|
I chose Piplup in Pearl because I freaking love Empoleon. From the show, he's like a king who doesn't give a s**t about pain lmao and I love his design. This guy is a total badass.
In Heartgold, I chose Cyndaquil because Typhlosion. 'Nuff said. |
Turtwig and Chikorita were my choices, it just so happens that they are both Grass type but it's only a coincidence.
|
I went with Chimchar in Sinnoh and Cyndaquil in Johto, mainly due to me liking their designs. This makes 4th Gen one of the rare cases in which I don't take the Water starter, I do like Piplup but Chimchar suits me more because my Chinese Zodiac sign is the monkey, while Totodile line is my least fave Water starter in general.
This was the generation that Fire totally won me over in I guess. |
I don't really care for any of the Johto starters, but I picked Cyndaquil in HeartGold since I knew there weren't many Fire types to be found in Johto, at least early on. I felt much the same way about the Sinnoh starters, but went with Piplup in Platinum, since my previous two starters were Fire (Cyndaquil) and Grass (Bulbasaur in FR). I had no idea that it would eventually evolve into a Water/Steel type though, and Empoleon actually became one of my favorite starters I've ever used.
|
In pearl I took chimchar and in soulsilver I took Totodile
|
In DPPT, I went with Turtwig solely for the design, and went with Chikorita in HGSS. For in game use, I always go with whatever Pokemon looks the best to me, because all the starters are able to clear the game rather easily. And I try not to pick fire types, because I've been using them for so long. :P
|
In my first run of Pokemon Diamond, I chose Piplup, because it's super cute and I regularly pick the water starter in my first run of a generation. In later runs of the fourth generation, I picked Chimchar because of the lack of good fire types in the Sinnoh dex.
|
In sinnoh i picked piplup and gotten chimchar from a friend. In heartgold I picked totodile and restarted and gotten cyndaquil.
|
D/P/Pt: Piplup! Just couldn't resist the cuteness of that little water penguin. Chimchar and Turtwig never really appealed much to me either. :(
HG/SS: Chikorita for my first run because she is way, way cute. Meganium was tough to use since so many gym leaders resist grass in Johto but I never regretted my decision. |
In Platinum, I chose Chimchar. I tried Piplup, but didn't go very far with him; Turtwig never appealed to me. I ended up loving Infernape, though.
In HearGold/SoulSilver I went back and forth. I started first with Cyndaquil, who I had used in Crystal, but I eventually switched to Totodile, after adding Growlithe to my team. |
In Diamond I chose Turtwig, but got Chimchar by trading. In Soul Silver I chose Totodile. Later in the game I also chose Squirtle and Treecko (I prefer Torchic, but got it from Emerald)
|
I went with Piplup originally in Pokemon Diamond. It looked really cute and by the end f the game I had a bad ass level 70-something king penguin that would drill peck and ice beam and surf my enemies to death, haha. In Heart Gold I think I chose Cyndaquil despite being somewhat attached to Totodile since it was my first ever Pokemon. I suppose I just wanted a change. No wait, now that I think about it I think I used all three starters in my team...I'm not too sure nymore haha! What I do know for a fact is that I used Cyndaquil which evolved in a beast of a Typhlosion. 8)
|
Since I restarted my games a lot previously, I'm only going to be saying the ones that I had when I first played the games.
In Pokemon Diamond, I chose Turtwig. I don't really know why I did that, but it was a pretty good Pokemon to use actually. When I look back in the past, I really didn't know how to use Torterra since it was really slow (I'm a fan of really fast Pokemon) but it could take a hit whenever it needed to. It has to be my second favorite Sinnoh starter since it's just so adorable and I chose it on my first journey of Pokemon Diamond. In Pokemon Pearl, I used Chimchar, since I thought it was really cute. I also didn't want to use Turtwig again since I already had one from Pokemon Diamond! I was very pleased with Chimchar and it's evolution line, they were all fast, and not to mention one of the only Fire Types that you could get in the game. Fire Types are also one of my favorites, next to the new Fairy Type. In Pokemon Platinum, I went for Chimchar, again. I really like him before so I wanted to use him again, and I didn't care if I had two of them now. Piplup never really fascinated me at all. It was just not eye catching enough for me. Now we head onto the Johto remakes. My starter in Pokemon Heart-Gold was Totodile. At this point, I knew a lot more about Pokemon. I knew that Feraligatr could take out a lot of Pokemon, and I had also used it in Pokemon Silver before so I was familiar with it. I didn't make a mistake using this Pokemon, and I've used every time I have reset the game. Pokemon Soul-Silver however, I used Cyndaquil. It is by far my favorite Johto starter to date. There's not a lot to say about it, but it can wreck a lot of stuff, and it's a Fire Type so I had to pick it. :) |
I've used all three starters from Sinnoh and Johto. They all have their own ups and downs, but overall they're still good starters to, umm, start with.
During my first run on Pokemon Diamond, I think I used Piplup. And on my SoulSilver playthrough, I started with Cyndaquil (or Totodile. Woe is me for not remembering things.) |
In Diamond I've used both Empoleon and Infernape. I love Penguins so Empoleon was definitely my favorite. In Hg/SS I've only used Totodile because I heard he's the easiest and I've still been too lazy to finish the game.
|
I've used them all, but in my first playthrough of Pearl I used a Turtwig, since I had seen Torterra and was excited by the similarities it bore with Venusaur (in that it was a quadruped with a plant/tree growing out of its back). I anticipated its secondary Ground typing too, so that paid off nicely.
In HeartGold, I went with Cyndaqul first time around, because Gold Version was the first for me to properly play, and I had used a Cyndaquil. Very much a nostalgia trip for me. |
In Pearl i picked Chimchar, playing Platinum i started with Piplup!
When i got HG, i started with Totodile aka Croc |
Hm, when I've played Pokémon Pearl for the first time, I chose Turtwig as my starter pokemon. I thought it was a pretty cute pokemon, and its defense was pretty good! As it evolved, yes, it became a little bit on the slow side, but, it's defense more than make up for that anyway. Gym battles weren't that bad when I used it either! Things became a little tricky over at the Snowpoint gym though, because Torterra is 4x weak to Ice type moves, and so, I had to use a little bit of strategy, but no problem. In the end, it was pretty effective against Cynthia's Garchomp as it took its. I took a while to beat her, but, success! When I played Pokémon Platinum more and more, I used Chimchar more often. That was around when I started to like pokemon like Gastrodon, Roserade, and Togekiss, in which, I don't really like out have pokemon of the same type in my team, so, Chimchar was a pretty good pick for that! It wasn't too bad either; it was way fast, and pretty powerful when It evolved to Infernape!
When I was playing Pokémon HeartGold for the first time, I just stuck to my traditional method - I chose Cyndaquil as my starter, because that was my favourite starter to use back when I've played Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Crystal. Again, nothing much changes, except for the addition of some moves like Rollout which was handy against Lance's Charizard or some other Flying/Fire type! It's flamethrower is super powerful in that game too, when it evolved to Typhlosion.. I dunno how, since I didn't remember Typhlosion being that fast and that strong in Pokémon Gold, but hot dog, who was I to complain! <3 Over all, it's still a wonderful pokemon, and fit well on the team I had planned (Lapras, Scizor, Golem etc, etc). |
In Pearl I went for Chimchar and named him Blaze, then in Platinum I got a Piplup named Frostbite.
In Heart Gold I went with, I think Cindaquil, but I can't remember since It's been so long. |
I chose Turtwig in DPPl and named Tortimer (10 points if you can guess the reference!) I chose Cyndaquil in SS.
|
Turtwig in the Sinnoh-based games and Cyndaquil in the Johto-based games.
Torterra and Typhlosion are beasts, pure and simple. ^_^ |
I always chose Piplup in Sinnoh! I tend to like water types and they can take a few hits while dishing out some good damage. Well, actually, I chose Chimchar once and gave up after trying to beat Roark because I couldn't work with it very well. Maybe it had crappy IVs or something idk because I always see people going on about how that line is hella.
Johto I always went with Cyndaquil. I just think they're adorable. And I never grab any other fire types so may as well, right? I don't really like any of the Johto starters much. I tend to be pretty ehhh about monotype Pokémon in general. |
Quote:
For Platinum I chose Turtwig; ever since I saw the Gen IV starters he was my favorite. I love grass types and turtles, so I knew he was the one for me. I also like defensive ones, so that was a bonus. And for Soul Silver I chose Cyndaquil, his squinty eyes caught my own eyes, plus I knew he was described as timid and that kinda related to me if that makes sense. |
Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava, which is epic. Quilave evolves into Typhlosion, which is still epic. I pretty much choose Pokémon because of their design, so a somewhat corpulent crocodile (Croconaw) did not appeal to me, and though I liked Bayleef (I loved Bayleef, I really did. It's simply the most irresistible Grass-type ever), the Hawaii-trip didn't do much good to him, in my humble opinion. I also found HG quite aimiable with Typhlosion, as opposed to Totodile in Silver, in which I could not ever win a battle. That I got to the Indigo League was quite the miracle actually, I was awful at Pokémon back then as a 6-year old or so :p
As for the D/P/Pt: I've seen Blaziken, and now Infernape: why would I want a fire/fight-type monkey who is by far not as kick-ass as Blaziken. Okay, it's still cool, but I found Empoleon waaaaaayyyyyyyy cooler. :3 I never played Torterra actually :/ |
I used Chimchar on Platinum, Piplup on Pearl, and Turtwig on Diamond.
And a freaking nostalgia on HgSs using my long time partner cyndaquil. xD |
Totodile in my Heart Gold. This is the first time i have ever diverged from my PICK THE FIRE TYPE decisions as a kid. And I mainly did it because i wanted that Charizard from Oak in my team later. However, now Feraligator is one of my two favorite pokemon (guess the other one xD), and they are both safe and sound, level 80, on my black 2 :D
On Pearl, I took Chimchar, but it was pretty disappointing to be honest. In my second run, I took Turtwig, and that went a LOT better. Acrually, after that, Torterra is tied with Snivy and Bulbasaur as the best grass starter for me. Of course, after playing through my HG 5 more times, i went through all of them, but Totodile still remains the undisputed king. The only one I have not even tried is Piplup... Now I feel bad. xD |
I always chose Cyndaquil in HG/SS - Because I liked it's typing and I liked both his evolutions ^^ Chickorita was kinda weak to me and I never liked Feraligatr's sprite for some reason D:
For Diamond/Pearl/Platinum I chose Turtwig - Because I like grass types and I love Torterra's typing and movepool :) |
I always choose the one with the coolest final evolution design. :3
So I chose Totodile in Soul Silver (I just love Feraligatr) and Chimchar in Pearl. |
When it came to chosing my starter in the fourth gen games, these are who I went with:
Piplup in Diamond and Platinum since I was going with my tradition Totodile in Soulsilver for nostalgia purposes |
I chose Turtwig in Sinnoh, I usually choose the grass types and Torterra is Awesome.
I chose Cyndaquil in Johto but I chose Totodile in my second run, I realized I like Totodile better. |
I had Piplup in DPPt. I went with Chikorita in Gold and Silver, then Cyndaquil in Crystal and SoulSilver. The Totodile evolutionary line just never appealed to me.
|
In SS i went for Cyndaquil
but when i went shiny hunting i got chikorita |
I chose Piplup in D/P/PT because Empoleon took my favorite final stage evolution of the 4th gen starters. In HG/SS I chose Cyndaquil because Typholosion is also a favorite of mine.
|
I did 5 playthroughs of Platinum and 2 of SoulSilver.
Chose Turtwig twice, Chimchar twice and Piplup only once. As for SoulSilver, I went for Totodile in both runs. |
Turtwig on Pearl, Cyndaquil on HG :)
|
Piplup in sinnoh region. and Totodile in jotho :)
|
I chose Turtwig in Platinum for some reason, even though I remember originally wanting to choose Piplup. No idea what made me change my mind but the Turtwig line is my favourite from that generation now so I'm glad I did.
In SoulSilver, I went with Chikorita because I'd restarted Silver just before the games were announced and I decided to use the same team. Cyndaquil had originally been my favourite of the three, but I'm actually starting to like Totodile more now. All three starters are awesome so I don't know who I'd choose if I had to play again. |
In Sinnoh, I always chose Turtwig because I was not really into Pokemon when the games were announced, but when I looked at the starters, I saw Turtwig and thought it was so cute and that I had to get this game. Torterra is still a favorite of mine, even today.
As for Johto, I chose Chikorita in my original playthrough. I had planned my team to use Aracanine as a fire type and Lapras as my water type, so I decided to go with Chikorita. Plus, it was the first one I chose when I originally played through Silver. |
In Pearl, I chose Turtwig as my starter, although i had wanted Piplup before, but i had always thought a grass starter would be better than any of the starters. Chimchar is cool (Ex, Infernape), but, eh, didn't appeal to me ^^
As for HG, I chose, of course one of the most popular johto starter, Cyndaquil. The other two did not appeal to me one bit :/ |
For Platinum, i chose Chimchar.
For Diamond, my brother and i chose turtwig. |
In Platinum, I played a file with all 3 because they were so interesting, but I decided on Turtwig in the end because it fits Lucas best.
In SoulSilver, I wanted to use Totodile, but this was one game where you're screwed without a fire type so I went with Cyndaquil. |
Diamond: Piplup (favourite of the three)
Platinum: Turtwig (second favourite) Soul Silver: Chikorita |
I think my initial starter in Diamond (7 YEARS AGO OMG) was Turtwig, and in Soul Silver it was Cyndaquil. When I got Platinum, I picked Chimchar because I wanted to smash stuff with a good natured Infernape. B) I just started Heart Gold in earnest, and I'm still trying to figure out who to use. XD
|
For both Diamond and Pearl, I chose Piplup. For Platinum, I chose Chimchar. For both HeartGold and SoulSilver, I chose Totodile.
|
Piplup was my go to starter for Pearl when I played it for the first time, and I chose Turtwig for Diamond.
Cindaquil was my buddy in SoulSilver. I restarted at some point with a Chikorita though. The fourth gen starters were all enjoyable though, I have to say. |
I chose Chimchar and Chikorita. There usually isn't a pattern to how I pick. Although I typically choose grass just because. The fourth generation starters were probably the most pleasant in my opinion.
|
Diamond: chimchar (always been my favourite starter ever)
SS: Chikorita, because it's so cute, when I was little I always wanted one in real life :) |
I always chose Turtwig because it was so laid-back in the anime. Then for HG/SS I adored Cyndaquil.
|
In Platinum I chose Chimchar only because I thought Infrenape was "alright" looking. (Didn't really like any starters at the time). I was quite pleased with my choice in the end though, he turned out to be strong enough.
I chose Cyndaquil in Soul Silver - I always chose Cyndaquil in Gold and Crystal. I can't resist Typhlosion's fiery collar. :3 |
Turtwig in Sinnoh for sure!! Torterra is one of my favorite pokemon, and his attacks and high defense got me through the E4. In Johto, I chose Totodile because Feraligatr :P
|
For Diamond, I believe I chose Piplup. Pearl it was Chimchar, then I restarted with Turtwig. For Platinum, I don't think I remember... But, it was probably Piplup again, knowing me and my obsession with cutie-pie penguins.
I never actually played Soul Silver. I only have Heart Gold. xD;; But in Heart Gold, I chose Cyndaquil. I named him Balthazar. vuv" |
The very first time I picked up Diamond, years and years ago, before I actually got back into Pokemon, I picked Piplup because I loved water starters. As a child I wanted to be a Marine Biologist for some reason, haha, so I loved aquatic life. When Heart Gold came out, which was the game that got me back into Pokemon, I actually chose Totodile because it was the same starter I used before. Later on when I bought Diamond again I decided to try Turtwig though, which was awesome, he's pretty much my favorite Sinnoh starter at this point.
|
Quote:
I'm just started Diamond/Gen 4 for the first time. I picked Piplup obviously, but I read that Turtwig is the best starter in these. I know I will like Turtwig because turtles are my favorite animal as well. Ha. I sound like a 10 year old. Water Pokémon all the way though! |
I picked Chimchar the first time I touched a 4th Gen game, which was Diamond. He served me really well, and helped me own the whole game :p
Come Platinum, and following Marriland's path during his Platinum playthrough of which I was watching like mad, and I used Turtwig. All simply because Marriland did. Turtwig's cute, has some neat moves. Torterra's amazing, Grass/Ground's an amazing typing once you look past the 4x Ice weakness. I got SS via ROM, as my DS was broken at the time. Started with a (shiny, somehow) Totodile, named it Nomnoms. Strong and cuddly, too (: |
On Pokemon Pearl, Turtwig since he seemed a good choice, and on SS, Cyndaquil as he would have a good start to the game.
|
I always choose chimchar to overcome my fear of monkeys and in heart gold I choose cyndaquil as its qute and speedy
|
Most of my Sinnoh playthroughs here had me picking Chimchar, but in some I went with Turtwig. Piplup was my least chosen of the three.
As for HGSS, I had Totodile for my main playthrough of Heart Gold, and Cyndaquil in my side runs of Soul Silver. The one time I picked Chikorita, a Nuzlocke, it died as a Bayleef. :x |
In Sinnoh I went with turtwig the first playthrough and On my second playthough I went for piplup... I never really fancied chimchars design.
For HG I picked chikorita in memory of my first gold playthrough, I really enjoyed having it around following me xD |
I chose Chimchar first in Diamond and Cyndaquil in SoulSilver. Since then, I've used all three of the starters. I tend to pick Cyndaquil most of the time when I replay HGSS, but when I replay Platinum (I ain't replaying DP, nope nope), I usually go for Piplup. I'm not a huge fan of the gen IV starters, but I love Empoleon. I don't really know why. It's just...a metal...penguin...and...that's pretty cool. So. I want him. Great reason, Syd.
|
In Platinum (My first game, which I received for my 9th birthday) I chose Turtwig who became an over leveled Torterra that OHKOed the entirety of the game with EQ. For SoulSilver I chose Totodile.
|
In Diamond and Platinum I always picked Piplup. I loved that little penguin ever since I saw him. I never evolved him also, that's how awesome Piplup is.
|
I picked the penguin, too. Piplup is the only Sinnoh starter I like. I evolved him because I wanted him to know Metal Claw, but I always wonder if I made the right choice...
I like all the Johto starters. In HG I chose Chikorita. It's probably my least favorite, but it has great support capacity with Light Screen/Reflect/____powder. In SS I'm getting a Totodile to be an HM buddy. |
Turtwig in Diamond, Chimchar in Pearl, and Piplup in Platinum. Chikorita in HeartGold and Cyndaquil in SoulSilver.
|
Chimchar and when i got an Infernape it would have Close Combat :D
|
Never played Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum but I picked Cyndaquil in SoulSilver. I always tended to pick the Water type as my starter for some reason, so I chose the Fire type for a change when I started playing on the DS.
|
DP: Chimchar
HGSS: Totodile (didn't use him much) The gen 2 starters could have been much better, and I didn't really like the 4th gen ones, except for Chimchar. |
D/P/P: Chimchar. Served me very well
HG/SS: Cyndaquil. Served me well, and yes, I like Fire-types Fire-type junkie. Likes Buizel. |
I skipped out on D/P, but when Platinum came out, I chose Turtwig. The thing is, I'd been picking fire types pretty consistently since G1, but I honestly hated the Chimchar line's design and general overratedness (everyone I knew picked him) so I decided to pick the coolest-looking one and named him Koopa. He turned out to be really helpful aside from the fact that everything in Sinnoh runs Ice Fang, but it did leave me without a fire-type during my initial run-through.
As for HG, I picked Typhlosion for old times sake because I wanted to recreate my original Gold team. Again, I was the odd one out here considering everyone and their mother picks Totodile. |
I chose Chimchar when first playing Pokemon Diamond. I had seen the three starters in a CoroCoro long before the games' release, and had made up my mind already. However, since then I've used Turtwig more times than the fire monkey. Torterra is a heavily underrated design and powerhouse. STAB Earthquake is priceless in Pokemon! :]
As for HGSS, went with fire again. Cyndaquil has always been my favorite Johto starter, but not by much. Actually, one of the main deciding factors when I play SoulSilver is how much I love Quilava, haha. Silver being my first ever Pokemon game, Quilava was my original favorite Pokemon. I've used the other two, but never completed it with Chikorita, which needs to change! |
I picked Piplup in Diamond and Platinum, Turtwig in Pearl, Totodile in HeartGold, and Cyndaquil in SoulSilver. I picked Piplup in Diamond because I always start my main game with the water starter, and I picked it in Platinum because I liked it a lot in Diamond and wasn't that fond of Chimchar (don't like monkeys too much, though it's grown on me with time). I went with Turtwig in Pearl because I thought it was cute, liked turtles, and liked the idea of a grass/ground starter. In HG, I chose Totodile because that's what I used in my original Gold, plus, as mentioned before, I generally start my "main" game of any set of games with a water starter. I went with Cyndaquil in SS because I've always liked Cyndaquil and because I used it when I first played Silver (a while after I got Gold).
I've never really used Chikorita. I've always thought I should try it as a starter, but I guess I just like Totodile and Cyndaquil too much. It's kind of like how I always choose Squirtle when given a choice of the Kanto starters because I like Blastoise so much (though I've incorporated the other starters into teams later by trading). |
In D/P/PT I picked Piplup because of Empoleon <3
In HG/SS I picked Totodile because its design, I learned it was a good choice seeing Feraligatr and its movesets! |
Piplup in Platinum so the Empoleon Steel can ease the Giratina encounter.
Cyndaquil/Totodile in HGSS. Never liked Meganium. |
I think originally, in Pearl, I chose Piplup. I thought it was pretty cute.
But as the anime tends to do for me, I got irritated with Piplup because of it's anime adaption. So in Platinum version I went with Chimchar, who quickly became my favorite of the starters and of most of the Gen. And this one was actually granted by Chimchar's anime adaption being so adorable. Talk about a turn around! |
First time I played Platinum, i chose Piplup. Now, I choose anything except it lol
First time in HeartGold I chose Chikorita. :| Regretted it First time in SoulSilver I chose Totodile, and it was alright. I usually choose Totodile or Cyndaquil now |
Quote:
If you're refering to the stones Steven gives in HGSS then I chose the same :P |
