The NPC Trainer Class Challenge V2!

The NPC Trainer Class Challenge!

Have you ever wanted to be one of your favorite NPC trainer classes in the game? Well now you can! You could be a Youngster, a Black Belt, a Sailor, and many more! You can even be one of the special stat Trainers found in Sinnoh. Each trainer class has different limitations, such as certain types, egg groups, and Pokemon locations, to make the game more challenging and interesting.

Rules!

1. Regarding trainer classes with more than one limitation, trainer classes with more than one parameter include Pokemon that fit either/any of the parameters, not necessarily all of them. I'm sure there are Pokemon that fit all the parameters of certain classes, but the challenge does not require that you only use them. To make this clearer, challengers of the Lass challenge don't have to use only Grass-type Pokemon in the Fairy egg group on the first five routes of the game. This means that you can use Grass-type Pokemon, Pokemon in the Fairy egg group, AND Pokemon that are found in the first five Routes.

2. You must have at least 3 Pokemon by the end of the challenge except in Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, in which the necessity is 2.

3. This should not happen, considering the broad parameters of most of the classes, but in the event that you can not obtain a Pokemon that fits one of your class's parameters before you get your third badge, you can either trade or hack ONE Pokemon that fits a parameter. If you trade, it must be before you get your first badge and it can not be over level 15. If you hack it in a ROM, use either a starter editor or a ROM randomizer to set one of the starters as a Pokemon that fits the parameters. It must not start at any level other than 5. In the game, simply hack in ONE Master Ball and set the wild Pokemon in the first Route to a Pokemon that fits the parameters, in its first stage.

4. Banned Pokemon: click here

5. Ultimate challengers and champions will be recorded in a separate list from single challengers. I consider an ultimate run to be a completed challenge in four different regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos).

6. Regarding ROM hacks:

a. Complete Pokedex hacks (Fire Red Omega, Blaze Black) are allowed for ultimate runs, and they will fill in for the region that they are played in. However, they are NOT allowed in the classes that require Pokemon from certain locations, as this lets you obtain Pokemon that are not usually accepted by normal means.

b. Total hacks are allowed, but they are only allowed under single runs.

c. You may use the Universal Pokemon Randomizer to edit ROMs visually if you so choose, and to remove trade evolutions, but you may not change any important aspects of this challenge, such as Pokemon typing, movesets, locations, etc.

6. Your signup must look like this:

Username: Feraligatr13
Trainer Class: Youngster
Game(s): Red, Gold, Ruby, Pearl, Black 2
Ultimate?: Yes

If your signup looks like this, however:

I want to do this, either Hiker or Scientist, and maybe Red or a 3rd gen game, don't know when I can start this though.

I will not accept it.

Quick question: Am I only alowed to use pokemon in monster group only or can I use those that are in monster group and another group aswell (Starters and rhydon)?

tobyjoey February 21st, 2014 4:05 PM

Sorry AoTora, wasn't very clear on that. Yes you may use Pokemon in another group as well. As long as one of the egg groups is Monster, you can use it.

AoTora February 21st, 2014 4:12 PM

Ok thankyou ^^ I will start tomorrow - and I cannot wait to start :3 I will have pretty nice team - One more question though - can I hack in Lickitung because I'd really like to use one but I have no idea on where to find one?

Welcome to the challenge, KoboraX! AoTora, if that lickitung would replace your starter, you could hack it in according to rule 9. However, if you were planning on using one of the starters as well, I am afraid you could not. :(

I'll probably ultimately attempt multiple challenges consecutively in this thread, so I'll begin at the top of the list. XD

This probably goes without saying, but for Kalos-based games, Route 1 shouldn't count toward the limitations on early-game routes as it contains no wild pokémon

tobyjoey February 21st, 2014 11:10 PM

Welcome aboard, Timbjerr! That's a good pint about the Kalos games, I will edit that into the ruleset.

Timbjerr February 22nd, 2014 12:20 AM

I'm ending my first play session.

I chose Chespin as my starter and nicknamed him Ike (I'm gonna dump him eventually, but he's doing his job for a starter). I travelled fairly uneventfully through Santalune Forest (all the pokémon I wanna raise are on rt.22 and rt.4). Once I emerged from the forest, I ninja'd my way past those two preschoolers and snuck through Santalune City towards rt.22, where after a lot of searching, I found my first two party members, Simba the Litleo (real original nickname I know...) and Riolu (no nickname yet because I accidentally scrolled past the menu option). I then made my way back to the south end of rt.3 and saved for now...I'll get those preschoolers' exp. points next time. XD

Welcome to the challenge, Angelic Pikachu! You must be really crazy brave to do Volt White 2! As for my own progress on my Special Trainer Mira challenge, I have beat the first three gyms and beat the Rocket Hideout in Celadon.

Progress report:

I beat Viola unintentionally decimated Viola with Ike's Rollout and got the Bug Badge, then I caught three new pokémon on Rt.4, Hippie the Flabébé (it's a flower child, get it? XD), Samurend the male Ralts (lame pun for a future Gallade, but still...XD), and Thorns the Budew. There's one more pokémon I need from rt.22, but I need to come back with a fishing rod. ;P

My team is starting to come together. :D

Timbjerr February 25th, 2014 1:07 PM

lol, I haven't updated in a couple days...busy weekend. x_X

I made it to Lumiose City and past the Parfum Palace event, I just killed the required Snorlax fight. I already have three of them in my bank. XD

Once I made it to Ambrette Town, I grabbed the Old Rod and backtracked back to Rt.22 to fish up my final team member, Skulkraken the Magikarp.

After making it back to Ambrette, I finished the Glittering Cave event and made my way to Cyllage City. After a little bit of grinding on Rt.10 (wherein I found and captured a shiny Sigilyph that I'm gonna use as trade fodder down the road), I faced off against Grant and the rest of the Cyllage Gym. Grant himself went down quite effortlessly against my (newly-evolved) Lucario. I'm saving at the south end of Rt.10...preparing to advance further.

This challenge looks really fun; I think I might participate in the future! Though, if I may, could I offer a suggestion? I think that, for the Triathlete trainer category, you should consider allowing Flying types or members of the Doduo family participate. There were actually two Triathlete trainers in R/S/E who used Doduos, so I think it would be appropriate. :D Just throwing that out there~

tobyjoey March 4th, 2014 8:25 PM

Mesmerella, that's a good idea! I will have to add that. I also have to say that the challenges that aren't type based seem the most popular, so I am going to ask you guys for suggestions on new trainers or editing old ones.

Mesmerella March 5th, 2014 10:42 AM

Quick question! Are trades allowed when it's a Pokemon that isn't available in the version you have? Like, if I wanted to use a Spritzee, but I was playing X, could I trade a Spritzee over from Y and use it? I'd imagine that Hidden Abilities and egg moves wouldn't be allowed, but, say, if it caught in the wild, and it was at the same level as my other Pokemon, would that be okay?

EDIT: To be a little more specific... I'm planning on doing an Officer challenge through SoulSilver, which is the only version I have. Since Growlithe isn't available in that game, I'm going to use a Growlithe that I caught in FireRed and migrated to Diamond. I won't start using it until I reach the area that they can be caught in HeartGold, just to keep things fair. ;) If that's acceptable, then here's my signup form!

To answer Slnxdx, yes you can use pokemon with tied highest stats. I thought I added that to the description, but I must have forgot. I do not understand your question about Aegislash, sorry.
Slnxdx, kyman7, and TheSkyo501, you have all been added!

And a temporary HM Slave, Sentret: level 3 (Tackle, Growl, and Surf)

Slnxdx March 8th, 2014 3:19 PM

@Tobyjoey, Aegis has two formes which have different stats. It always enter battle in Shield (Defense) where it has Defense and Sp.Def as highest. But whenever it attacks, it reverts to Blade (Attack) where it has Attack and Sp.Att as highest. So, my question is, for what Sp.Trainer Challenges can it be used?

KillerCroCohen and Huntsman, you have been added. And I am very sorry Mesmerella, I seem to have skipped you! You have also been added. Kyman7, you may hack in one Leaf Stone. Slnxdx, because the Aegislash form with higher attacks is a form change, he can only be in Special Trainer Buck and Special Trainer ???. Congratulations to AoTora for completing another run! I am sorry I haven't posted much progress on my run, but I do have a mini update. I hav ejust beaten Blaine and I am in Mt. Ember with my newly caught Magmar.

I actually started this a while back, but wasn't sure at first if it would work out. So here's my first update, which is roughly 10 hours of playtime.

Spoiler:

Chose the Charmander (nickname: Candi) as my starter. Caught a Timid Wurmple (nickname: Wil) and evolved him to a Silcoon by swapping out with Candi during the first few battles.

Made it to the first city and put Candi in a box. Caught about 25 Trapinch at the Safari Zone before I got one with a decent nature. Named him Tyler. Evolved Wil into a Beautifly and taught him Thief.

Got a Totodile from Prof. Oak, named him Tom. Red gave me the TM for Headbutt, which I taught to Tyler and used to catch a Combee I named Cathy. In the Woods I caught a Metapod I named Meg and used a Rare Candy to evolve her into a Butterfree. After I got to Inhore City I boxed Meg and Cathy, and taught Tom Cut after Red gave me the HM.

Jessica's bug-type gym was pretty easy to beat since Wil knows Gust. When Jessica sent out Vespiqueen I switched to Tyler to avoid being hit by *her* Gust. And that was that, first badge earned.

I caught a Lv 10 Spinarak to do the in-game Scizor trade. Since the Scizor is named CUTTER I taught him Cut and boxed Tom. I also caught a Heracross who I named Helga (couldn't think of any other 'H' names).

Battled my way to Esmerald City, kicked out Team Steam. Wil and Helga did most of the work at the grass type gym, with Tyler stepping in here and there. The only tough fight was with Esmerelda's Torterra, but Helga just spammed Leer until I could get in a couple hits, which was all it took. Helga's Ice Smash is rather powerful.

On the way to the next town, Tyler evolved into a Vibrava. Woohoo! I battled Team Steam at some island, then cleared out Seanport's Lighthouse.

Current Team:

Wil the Beautifly
Timid Male Lv 32
Thief/Attract/Mega Drain/Gust

Tyler the Vibrava @ Lucky Egg
Lonely Male Lv 37
Dragonbreath/Crunch/Sand Attack/Headbutt

CUTTER the Scizor @ Quick Claw
Adamant Female Lv 28
Cut/Focus Energy/Metal Claw/Leer

Helga the Heracross @ Amulet Coin
Lonely Female Lv 30
Horn Attack/Ice Smash/Leer/Endure

To be clear, the only Pokemon I can use are (including Final Forms): Ditto, Porygon, Electrode, Magneton. I might need to hack in where necessary, if that's okay.

Don't forget, you have all kinds of inorganic Pokemon to choose from, such as Koffing and Grimer. You also have Poison-types. Remember that the Pokemon in your team only have to satisfy at least one of the parameters, not necessarily all of them. You can start with Bulbasaur and you shouldn't have to hack after that :)

You now have two challenges in Kanto, one in Johto, and one in Hoenn. You still need one more different region, sorry. Just post a fourth, fifth, or sixth generation game and I'll add you.

Tek April 27th, 2014 5:39 PM

Small update:

Rocked the Water-type Gym in Seanport, third badge achieved. Nothing too notable there, no KOs or anything. I find myself going back to Pokémon Centers a lot though, all of the trainer Pokémon are pretty high-level, even if they have teams of three or more.

Journeyed to Dardusk City. Gained a few levels per team member, and replaced CUTTER's Leer with Rock Smash.

One other thing:

I'm not on the challengers list.

It's the Zhery region. There's another region after the E4 as well, like HG/SS. Dunno what it's called though.

This seems so interesting concept and many people seem to enjoy it I have to try it! But since I'm thinking about doing an Ultimate challenge, am I allowed to transfer PKMNs from my Hall of Fame to the next gen game? For example, I beat the hall of fame with a Blastoise, can I take my Squirtle with me to Johto?

Oh, I didn't make that clear. The general rule is that you can't use Pokemon that you normally wouldn't find in your Pokedex. However, since GSCHGSS is a two-region generation, I can make an exception. Here's the idea. Say you had beaten the first gen with your Blastoise and Aerodactyl, Pokemon not normally found in Johto. Since it is the same reason, just with level increases, you may bring back any Pokemon from Kanto to use for the second half of the game, as long as its level does not exceed the level of any of the Gym Leaders' strongest Pokemon. So, for example, say your Aerodactyl was Lv. 42 and your Blastoise was Lv. 67. Since Lt. Surge's strongest Pokemon is an Electabuzz Lv. 46 (in GSC), and your Blastoise exceeds that level, you would able to send over the Aerodactyl, but not Blastoise. Get the gist of it? So yes, you can transfer over your averagely-leveled Pokemon from Kanto to Johto, but not between any other regions. No murdering Wallace/Juan with your Raikou, or using your beloved Cacturne to destroy Crasher Wake. Now that that's explained, you're added!

Well, I saw this challenge in someone's signature and was excited about it. Then I read through the thread and was disappointed. You left out classessuch as Gentleman/Lady, Swimmer, Beauty, Breeder, Burglar, Schoolgirl/boy.... Pretty much all of my favourites xD I want to o this challenge, but none of the classes you chose appeal to me tbh. I'm gonna keep my eyes on it, hoping to see more trainer classes added.

It's a well thought challenge and you could do so much more with it ^~^

What comes around, goes around!

I have a few trainer class ideas that you could add for this challenge!

Spoiler:

Swimmer
Type(s): Water
Egg Group(s): N/A
Moves: Surf
Location(s): Waters (no fishing rod)
Specific Pokemon: N/A
Miscellaneous: Pokemon that are able to learn Surf

Beauty
Type(s): Water, Grass, Normal
Egg Group(s): N/A
Moves: N/A
Location(s): N/A
Specific Pokemon: Pokemon that resembles beauty
Miscellaneous: N/A

Schoolgirl/boy
Type(s): N/A
Egg Group(s): N/A
Moves: N/A
Location(s): N/A
Specific Pokemon: N/A
Miscellaneous: Not fully evolved Pokemon (NFE's)

Breeder
Type(s): N/A
Egg Group(s): N/A
Moves: N/A
Location(s): N/A
Specific Pokemon: Baby Pokemon, Pokemon hatched from eggs in general (such as Eevee, Togepi etc.)
Miscellaneous: Pokemon must be bred and hatched from an egg (max IVs, some Egg moves, perfect Nature)

The Breeder class is pretty hard to use on emulators and such but that's what I came up at least {XD} Feel free to use them and change them if you like!

Feraligatr13 September 22nd, 2014 2:19 AM

Now, I think the breeding requirement for the Breeder is too extreme; just having Pokemon need to be bred would be hard enough, but I could probably do that. The question is, though, how would you get Pokemon to breed? I might have to think about that and modify it.

But also, you have to realize that I didn't originally create the challenge; I just took ownership of it, but since new ideas are finally coming around, I can actually incorporate them. When I got here, some of the classes were just impossible to do in certain regions; I did the best I could to broaden the spectrum. I think it looks better now than it did, but it can certainly look better. I don't have time to add them right now, but I will add them when I get the opportunity, probably this afternoon.

EDIT (19.10.2014):

So I finally managed to beat Red on Mt. Silver and beat the Game! Here is the final update on it:

Spoiler:

- So I arrived to the Kanto Region and went straight for Lt. Surge
- He was beaten quite easily with my team consisting of 3 ground types
- I decided not to take anyone back from my Blue walkthrough since I didn't want to waste any time grinding
- After Lt. Surge, I tried to go east, but there was a friggin' Snorlax sleeping on the way, must go north
- Headed on to Saffron City and after that to Celadon City
- Defeated Erika, mostly thanks to Quagmire's Ice Punch and Falcon's bulk
- After Erika I re-supplied and went to Saffron again
- Defeated Sabrina with Falcon and Rampage
- Once done with Sabrina I headed on to Fuchsia City
- Went down the bicycle road and grinded a bit
- Beat Janine, easiest gym in Kanto, for me that is
- Then it was time for the Power Plant stuff, headed on to Cerulean
- Fun Fact: I never played second gen so I had no clue what I was supposed to do...
- So I got to the power plant, talked with the manager and got my quest
- So there I was, oblivious what to do and I happened to stumble to the Team Rocket Grunt at Misty's Gym
- Found the missing part after checking bulbapedia (I just had to)
- After that I found Misty at Bill's place
- Beat her with Quagmire and got my 5th badge of Kanto
- Woke up the Snorlax (I had no idea there was a radio on my Pokégear) and headed for Pewter City
- Beat Brock, lied about Janine, fellow hiker was the easiest
- Got to Pallet town and surfed downwards
- Found Blue and he left for the Viridian Gym
- Found Blaine and burned his face, hope he brought some of dem BURNHEALS
- Flew back to Viridian and beat the final gym leader, Blue
- Then it was time for Red
- I goofed the first time, went in with lvl 50-59 Pokemon and got my ars handed right back to me.. Never realized his pokemon were frigging 80's
- So then I grinded about 70-80 and whooped his ars the next time!
- YAYYY Crystal version completed!!

On to Hoenn I suppose...

But first, let me take a selfie the final team of Pokémon Crystal Version:

This is a double post, but the last post was a sign up, sooo...

Journey Progress:

I woke up and got my starter, Drake the Snivy, from Professor Oak. My rival, Silver, challenged me to a battle right there in the lab, which I easily won. I breezed through Route 1, defeating many a Starly and Lillipup. As I went to the Pokémart, the clerk sent me back to the Professor with a Parcel. After delivering the Parcel, I made my way back to Route 22, where I did significant training. While training, Drake evolved! With my newly evolved Servine, I went and destroyed Silver further down the road. After defeating him, he told me that the Pokémon League is off-limits, so I went on to the rest of Route 2, and then Viridian Forest. There, I battled a bunch of Bugs and Bug Catchers. From Viridian Forest, I moved onto Pewter City, where I decided to rest.

Team Progress

Just a quick question, I was unsure of whether or not the Snivy line could be considered "Dragonlike". I have a few friends who say yes, but I wanted an official opinion.
