"Curse of the Breeder" - Griffy

As breeders we've all done some stupid things. Here you can share some of the dumb things you've done while breeding. No picking on each other though and be civil! :P

Griffinbane March 1st, 2014 6:25 PM

1. Cycled up and down that road outside daycare center... just to realize that all eggs were hatched a good 10 minutes ago
2. Cycled up and down that road outside daycare center... just to realize that the parent didn't get along with my HM slave Talonflame
3. Cycled up and down that road outside daycare center... just to realize that both parents were the same gender
4. Cycled up and down that road outside daycare center... just to realize that only half of the pair is in the daycare
5. Reversed Destiny Knot and Everstone by accident and hatched crappy babies
6. Double Everstone hold

Ahhhh, the curse of the breeder.

Necrum March 1st, 2014 7:36 PM

Cycled back and forth to realize both parents are still in my party...

Pendraflare March 1st, 2014 9:36 PM

Put a female Breloom and a Gourgeist in there only to realize that the latter is only in the Amorphous Egg Group and not Plant like Breloom is.

Also, at one point I thought this one Smeargle I was trying to breed had max Special Attack, and after a ton of eggs out of what I got didn't have it, I checked, and it had max Attack instead. Ouch.

Hiatus March 1st, 2014 9:48 PM

I once put an egg in PC, thinking it was some Pokémon. After about ten to fifteen minutes of biking, I started to wonder why it wasn't hatching, aaand, yeah, finally managed to realize what I actually did.

XpokeX March 1st, 2014 9:54 PM

Just not long ago I just got a HA pokemon with egg moves (level 1) and started to breed it with a ditto to hopefully get some more and I had a trade were i needed to breed something so i took it out and once i put it back in the daycare i stored like 10 eggs of it and when they hatched none of them had egg moves so i checked my pokemon to see that the daycare had removed its egg moves with other level up moves >.<

You can take it to the move relearner with some Heart Scales and reteach the Egg Moves. Anything the Pokémon has ever known can be retaught in XY.

Griffinbane March 2nd, 2014 8:56 PM

Oh, here's another one. Breeding Ralts with another 'mon in the Humanshape group and not getting any eggs because Ralts is AMORPHOUS. Seriously, it has a humanoid shape. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!

Forgot to add,the problem was that i recently restarted the game so i havent reached the move relearned just yet >.<

Elements1 March 3rd, 2014 8:01 AM

Apparently I hatched a shiny squirtle, but due to the little change in shiny form I did not realize I hatched it till I started releasing my boxes of squirtle. Right as I confirmed the release I realized that the Squirtle had the shiny star. In my desperation to get one, I looked on the GTS for one, only to realized that I saved so I could not soft reset. >.< I really hate myself.

Cordelia March 3rd, 2014 8:25 AM

Cycled back and forth realizing I still have both parents in my party. Cycled back and forth and only have ditto in the daycare. Cycled back and forth and realized I forgot to put the items on the parents ;;

Tek March 3rd, 2014 8:31 AM

Hahahahaha this thread is amazing. Not once, but twice, I have let the mother of a breeding pair evolve and then saved the game.... When the move I wanted for the offspring could only be learned by the unevolved form. This happened recently with a yanma that was supposed to pass hypnosis. The first time, I let my Lv 91 Trapinch evolve - SO MUCH LOST EFFORT.

Omicron March 3rd, 2014 9:32 PM

-Cycling back and forth the daycare until I realized I didn't leave the parents in the daycare.
-Cycling back and forth the daycare and picking up eggs until I realized I hadn't switched parents.
-Cycling back and forth the daycare wondering why there were no eggs until I remembered togepi is a baby pokémon and can't breed.

Brandy721 March 4th, 2014 5:06 PM

-Cycling back and four repeatedly hatching eggs containing 3IV Skrelps, beginning to yell at my game while trying to figure out why they would never get over 3IVs with a 4IV parent and 6IV parent, exclaiming that my luck can't possibly be this horrible... Two boxes of flawed Skrelp later, checked to see that I forgot to give the Destiny Knot to either of the parents... >< Facepalm.

Rapidfir3Pho3nix March 4th, 2014 5:21 PM

Cycling back and forth and realizing no pokemon are in the daycare >_>
Also, cycling around Prism Tower for a good 30 minutes after all my eggs were hatched.

Don't judge me.

Azire March 4th, 2014 9:20 PM

Let's see, I'll give a little back history, I started playing Pokémon with Red Version, played Gold and Silver then pretty much quit until I purchased Black 2 the end of 2012. I played here and there randomly but not for longer than a couple days, years separating these occasions until Black 2.

My mistake? Trying to MM a Ditto in Gen 5. I didn't remember much from Gen 2 regarding breeding and Ditto is my favorite Pokémon, especially Shiny, I wanted one!!

Too bad Ditto can't breed, I still don't have the competitive Ditto I want.

This really made me laugh hard hahaha :P

destinedjagold March 11th, 2014 12:16 AM

The only thing that pisses me off is this...

Cycled up and down that road outside daycare center... just to realize that the man was just too lazy to turn around to let me know that an Egg was already ready for pickup

Since then, I switched from moving back and forth on that route to circle around the fountain in the <insert town name here> Town 5 - 6 times and then go back and talk to the Egg Guy. >:/ Works almost all the time. >:\

My god, I feel your paaaaaaain >.< Such a waste of time biking around for nothing.

Eevee March 13th, 2014 6:34 AM

I've definitely biked up and down a million times and wondered why nothing was happening, only to find out that all the eggs already hatched a long time ago. x3

TwilightBlade March 13th, 2014 9:03 AM

On several occasions, I accidentally put two babes in the daycare and couldn't figure out why no eggs were produced after 10 mins. I can't help it I get these ladies straight from Wonder Trade. >:O

Oh, and while holding 5 eggs, I continue biking around waiting for the 5th egg to hatch, but it already hatched a half hour ago.

Necrum March 13th, 2014 12:28 PM

Accidentally released Pokemon with Power Item I needed.

Eevee March 14th, 2014 9:18 AM

^ That reminds me!

I Wonder Trade all the parents that I no longer need to clear them from my boxes. One time, I accidentally almost traded away a parent holding my only Destiny Bond. I saw it having the item and I freaked and shut off my game so fast. I saved it! xD

UseTheRNGLuke March 18th, 2014 7:35 AM

^ Yeah... I think they should make a system that notifies you before you offer a poke with any item and say "Are you sure you want to trade/release this Pokemon? It has [item]!"

Eevee March 22nd, 2014 4:49 PM

Or even more so, they should allow you to cancel a Wonder Trade when you haven't found a partner yet instead of having to shut off your game.

you can just disconnect by flipping the switch on the right side of the 3ds =)

I've had to DC a few times when I noticed "Oh wait, I need this for something"

Griffinbane March 22nd, 2014 5:51 PM

Ever do that "miss the door" dance? It's terrible when biking but just as bad with roller blades. I keep missing the Daycare man too so nowadays I just crash into the fence and then crawl up to him.

Yeah, happens to me all the time >.<

Master Kavar April 23rd, 2014 11:42 PM

hey, ok i have done something that is really stupid lol, i was trying to get a baby Bulbasaur for egg moves slowpoke had curse to give to a baby Bulbasaur.

female slowpoke + male Ivysaur = baby Bulbasaur

that's was my thinking but i need a female Ivysaur + male Slowpoke / curse.

LOL :-)

Sebastian_Sommer June 6th, 2014 7:46 AM

This actually happened to me once. I was cycling around the day care and waited for the dude to turn his head around to tell me that an egg is ready. After wasting a good 10 minute, I got fed up of waiting and cycled toward him to check on the parents status. Then I finally realized that the parents are still in my party and I completely forgot to put them inside the daycare. *face palm*

UndyingFury June 7th, 2014 2:54 AM

I accidentally Wonder-Traded away a Pokemon holding my Everstone, and then I had to wait around for Geodude hordes for about an hour or so in Terminus cave and try to steal another one from one of them (which is a 5% chance, by the way ;-;) before they killed each other using Magnitude. At least it wasn't my Destiny Knot, or I would've cried (unless you can actually find more of them on wild Pokemon, but I didn't think you could).

There have also been many occasions where I've cycled back and forth infront of the Daycare for at least like 15-30 minutes before I realized that both Pokemon were either the same gender or not even in the same egg group.

Oh, the curse of the breeder is a vile one, hehe.

You can get more destiny knots by battling a certain trainer in Luminose City as many times as you want actually! Here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q786Z6b8bYE

I've been a victim of the "bike round luminose for 10mins before realizing my eggs have hatched" multiple times because I don't really pay attention while I'm doing it haha. Other standouts include breeding Gardevoir with a Machamp and having to get off my skates to talk to the day-care man as I would constantly skate around him with the circle pad ugh

You can increase that chance to 20% if you lead with a Pokemon with the ability Compound Eyes (even if it has fainted).

I thought you could beed Unown! I walked up to the day care man after 10 minutes of cycling to have him say that my Unown and Ditto prefer to play with other Pokemon...

Yeah, I led with my Galvantula and switched out into a Bisharp with Thief. It still took awhile though. Mostly because, like I said, they kept murdering each other with Magnitude. :p
Also, 20%? That's pretty good; I didn't think it increased that much. I thought it would only be just a tiiiny bit less rare. But after checking Bulbapedia and such, I learned that since gen V, it no longer increases your chances by 50%, but it increases it to a set amount. Well then. The more you know~

Zayutasu June 9th, 2014 3:14 PM

I`ve once cycled in a small circle in front of the daycare guy in x and y and started screaming in frustration because my eggs wouldnt hatch and i realized i had both parents in my party, and i didnt even had any eggs with me.

I always crash my bicycle into the fence when trying to recive and egg from the daycareman, and ALWAYS ALWAYS miss the door at least 3 times before being able to get in to talk to the daycarewoman.

Hatch about 50 crappy iv eggs and never wonder what was happening because acording to me i just had "bad luck" only to later realize i places the wrong parents.

Just Wonder Traded my ever stone and destiny knot after finally breeding a perfect IV Shinx and I just realized it when I was trying to IV breed a Froakie. And this is the second time this happens.
You just saved my life. I didn't know you could go as many times as you want to get Destiny Knot, i'll give it a shot. But yeah, these things happen a lot.

Along the same vein, I had imported a Meowth from Unova (after cloning it, I think...thankfully) and, without battling, leveled it up to Lv.60 (as a Persian) to keep the daycare breeding costs down. I started breeding it with the Shiny Ditto. Later, I was getting ready to release it because I had many with better IVs to take its place. At that moment, I realized that it had a Shiny Star.

I had never battled with it directly and thus never saw the sparklies. All the experience was from the Exp. Share. I checked and found I did import it as a Meowth; the Shiny form was in my Dex.

That Persian has been benched now while I do my Meowth breeding with multi-IV recipients.

eeveeandmew June 16th, 2014 5:23 PM

I have many times continued biking with all my eggs hatched already. :3c Since i got frustrated with this, i just use the ST menu to check at a glance if eggs are hatched. :)

After a hatch or two, I go to the PC and then take the next Egg from the breeder. The only time I don't do this is if I want a hatch location specifically. Usually it's Lumiose City in XY or the Skyarrow Bridge in Gen. V.

Cyclone June 27th, 2014 5:20 AM

So today. I dropped off my newly evolved 4IV Pikachu at the breeder...or so I thought. It apparently didn't go in, I thought it did, and I just went roller skating for five minutes before thinking of asking "Egg Man" about their status. "Oh, your Ditto's doing just fine!"

Damn you, finicky controls. Damn you.

DarkIllumination July 9th, 2014 1:10 PM

I been breeding charmanders and I never get great speed IVs just attk, spattk, def, and hp, I need to figure how to get good speed IVs for a fast charizard.

Belldandy July 9th, 2014 1:17 PM

Over sixty-five Lileep with a 6IV mother and a 5IV father.

Maybe six females so far, of which two had the wrong ability (looking for Storm Drain).

All with 3-4IVs.

Kill me.

[Edit]

Just hatched a 6IV Male. YOU WILL ELUDE ME NO LONGER, 5IV FEMALE!!!

KatTayle July 9th, 2014 1:56 PM

I forgot to IV check 5 boxes of Eevees, had a 6IV ditto and 5IV parent eevee. Probably had a 6IVs in there... Other than that, not much except occasionally forgetting I have a full party and still biking around the daycare for eggs.

Cyclone July 10th, 2014 4:04 PM

Oh, I bike in front if I know I have a full party. I just go inside and plop something (usually an Egg) in the PC when the guy faces my way.

I found myself circling Lumiose Tower hatching 0 Eggs the other day. It was only for about five minutes, and partly because I was watching something on the computer, so I wasn't paying full attention or I'd have known I'd hatched the last Egg already.

An actual curse: I started an Eevee project and didn't get a female until the 49th Egg. The 54th Egg (same batch of six) was an exact female I needed (IVs didn't matter fully at that point). From there I was able to breed and succeeded in getting my result. However, in 78 Eggs, I had a total of three females.

Supplementary curse: the first 18 Eggs included a few 5IVs, but also 2-4IVs. I had a single 1IV Egg.

That one was Shiny.

Kill me.

Cyclone July 14th, 2014 3:17 PM

Oh, here's a new one.

Pulled Crustle out of the PC for a quick breeding project, to pass Rock Blast to someone. Teach it the move through the relearner. Then I look at the gender.

It's female.

Insult to injury: it learns the move at Lv.5.

Good thing Heart Scales are so easy to find in this game. At least, when the holder is.

DarkIllumination July 14th, 2014 5:31 PM

I have to breed a perfect growlithe and to do that I have level up a regular to learn flarblitz, evolve it to learn extreme speed via relearner then breed it with a close combat one I got from WT and hatch a perfect one with all three moves and breed stealth rock to certain pokémon plus hatching a shiny honedge and gible, Im going to have a headache after all this.

Belldandy July 15th, 2014 4:59 PM

Bred a Naive 4EM Pichu, where one of the EMs was Volt Tackle. Being a mixed attacker, it was pretty nice to find out its stats were 31/31/31/28/31/31.

And then heart sink: Hidden Power Electric.

Of all things. Electric. #crushed

Thief August 16th, 2014 8:08 AM

I can't remember what, but one time I'd bred an offspring I wanted to keep and accidentally put it on Wonder Trade (along with the millions of other offspring I'd bred). I tried to shut off my game as soon as I realised which one it was, but it was too late. I loaded my game back up again, checked my PC box, and what did I get in return?

A Bunnelby. Named 'Hahahaha'.

Karma better hit that guy hard.

Hawk Tartaros August 19th, 2014 3:58 AM

Breeding a Squirtle and getting the wrong nature so i can do it all over again.
And released all the squirtles with egg moves Dragon Pulse and Aura Sphere so i have to start from the beginning and breed a Clawlitzer with a female squirtle with hidden ability from scratch.
Now that is a pain in the @$$.
I did get a female shiny modest Squirtle in the prosses though with 2 max IV's.

BakingBluePotatoe August 19th, 2014 5:10 AM

So I was trying to breed some rare ball Johto Starters, and I'd been restarting after a while of not getting a female. so, I restarted agaaain, and I had 2 Totodiles in my party.. I assumed they where just random males, so I WT'd one of them witout looking. Turns out I WT'd one of my EM Totodiles. >.>

THANK GOODNESS though, that I didn't accidentally trade my Dive Ball Toto, or THAT would have been horrible. ^_^'

Perriechu August 19th, 2014 2:13 PM

Spent like 2 days trying to breed my female Ultra Ball Froakie with my Protean male Froakie and didn't know that males can't pass down their HA with a female.

Yeah, just did something similar earlier today. XD; Swapped out my breeding couples briefly and when I swapped them back I didn't realize the daycare had gotten rid of my female's Wish. :|; Thank God for the move Deleter and Relearner, right?

Candy September 26th, 2014 5:10 AM

Ohoho, there's this one time when someone was looking for a Flawless/Perfect 5IV Female Heal Ball 4EM HA Fennekin. I tried it out, and it ended up with a ton of 4-5IV baby foxes released into the wild searching for that one female HA Fennekin with that perfect 5IV spread.

...And guess who, already at the point of stopping and just going to give an imperfect 5IV spread to the requester (she knew it'll be hard so she was willing to take it), got a flawless HA female one...

Really, 6IV before a perfect 5IV one. Pokemon sure loves to troll around with me.

Belldandy February 10th, 2015 3:57 PM

Usually my Ditto has the DK and my Pokémon has an Everstone, but in the cases where my Pokémon requires the nature Ditto has, I obviously switch.

How many times have I gone from breeding one Pokémon to another without switching it around... Instead, hatching Adamant Lapras or some other dumb combination :pink_frown: hmph

Teravolt February 12th, 2015 5:16 AM

Was breeding Larvitar.

Forgot to put Everstone.

Got an Egg.

Remembered about Everstone.

Changed Item.

Got 4 more Eggs.

First Larvitar was Adamant (not bad), all others were Jolly.

Adamant Larvitar was 31 / 31 / 31 / x / 31 / 31

All others were not that spread ^ ^ (RAGEEEEEEEE)

Did 3 more cycles (15 more Eggs)

None had that spread (MORE RAGEEEEEEEEEEE!)

Did last cycle. Last Egg was right.

So annoying when of course the "bad egg" has what you want, and then everything else is missing either HP or Atk. SOOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING!

BriCKson March 29th, 2015 1:47 AM

I think the dumbest thing I had done was delete a 4IV female when I had a 5IV female to replace it. I accidentally marked the wrong female parent that was only 3 IV... I biked back and forth getting eggs for about an hour(maybe more) just thinking I was having bad luck.

I am new to this forum and I love it already because... I have done all of these things. Especially number 1. Whoa boy. To any of you youngsters on here, don't drink and play Pokemon kids!

Mawa March 17th, 2016 9:13 AM

...The same gender mistake XD

Or to remove the parent with the egg moves, only to realize a while after that the babies din't had any egg moves.

Daska September 19th, 2016 3:03 PM

I spent 15 minutes riding around on my bike trying to hatch an egg only to realize that I forget to grab the egg from the daycare man.

RetroPokeman October 4th, 2016 8:16 PM

I had a female excadrill that was wild caught and wanted to breed one with good IVs. Looking through my box of breedjects for a mate, I found a cubchoo with 5 perfect IVs and decided that breeding it with my excadrill would be a good start. After leveling it up a bit to avoid racking up a large daycare bill, I realized that the cubchoo was also female. Herp-derp! o_O
