Goo March 10th, 2014 5:51 AM

I remember once in middle school I forgot to put my name on my paper and got 100% on a quiz. We had a sub returning papers and there were two people who had no names, me and a guy in my class. She refused to believe my paper was mine because the handwriting was so awful and she didn't want to give the wrong grade to the wrong person (drastically different grades). I had to have several other students vouch that my handwriting was mine and in the end she also double checked my notes to make sure.

How sexist and terrible is that, to tell a kid they're lieing because girls always have good handwriting?

Tsutarja March 10th, 2014 6:41 AM

I've had female teachers that have worse handwriting than me! That should go to show that substitute that handwriting legibility has nothing to do with whatever sex that person is.

Livewire March 10th, 2014 7:07 AM

My handwriting has always been borderline uneligible. You'd have a better chance of reading ancient nurse runes than mine. :/

Puddle March 10th, 2014 7:13 AM

I hate how people do generalize that girls have better handwriting. I've seen some awful handwriting. However, there is reasoning behind it. Boys use the logical side of their brain, which goes with math, and people who are good at math have bad handwriting because they only focus on that side of the brain for the most part.

While girls use the other side which focuses on the English portion and stuff. They write more and are more engaged with what they are writing, therefore, they write better.

However, it can easily be turned around. That's just the basic generalization.

Shining Raichu March 10th, 2014 7:14 AM

I am a boy with amazing handwriting, but I'm a homosexual so I'm not sure if that counts

That might explain mine as well. Although I'm actually primarily right-brained. :o

For someone who studied psychology as a major for 2.5 years, I always seem to forget which side is responsible for what XD

Khilia March 10th, 2014 8:36 AM

Oooh, so the topic is handwriting?

Some of the people here probably already've seen mine in the thread that I made a long while ago, but anyways
mine has changed recently due to some factors; I figured I still can write nicely enough for me and fast enough for school standards if I write small letters smaller than I did before, also my n/m doesn't look like a u/w anymore because I sorta needed to differentiate those :p

Compared to the other guys in my class my writing looks "insanely tidy" and "really nice", but maybe it's also got something to do with that I'm transgender and so on

Pendraflare March 10th, 2014 9:14 AM

Sometimes my handwriting in earlier grades was considered above average for the time. That hasn't really changed for me, although learning cursive wasn't straight nature for me at first.

Doesn't matter too much nowadays, because most of the stuff I write out is done through typing, anyway.

Taemin March 10th, 2014 9:29 AM

My hand writing when I'm going fast or a normal speed is kind of bad, but if I slow down it's kind of round and cute looking. Nothing fancy, and I can't write in cursive very well. v o v

Snubbull March 10th, 2014 9:34 AM

My mom always said my handwriting was crappy. Well, she says that about everyone's, but I can't ever read hers

Meganium March 10th, 2014 9:40 AM

Mine's a combination of cursive and printing. I learned how to write cursive at 4th grade but never really mastered it, because I despised it. lol. So later on I learned how to combine both printing and cursive in writing so that way I could have the best of both worlds. That eventually pissed off my teacher. :D

Omicron March 10th, 2014 9:51 AM

I was taught cursive since Kindergarten, so I mostly write in cursive.

My handwriting appears to change with my mood. It is pretty and tidy when I'm calm and happy, regular handwriting most of the time, and an ineligible mess when I'm angry or anxious.

Khilia March 10th, 2014 9:51 AM

It'd definitely look like 10 times nicer if I was using actual writing paper and such, but aaaanyways;

Alexander Nicholi March 10th, 2014 10:57 AM

I always wanted to go to Germany, and living near an Army base I know so many who have.

When my mother got back from Alaska she had a choice: Go to Germany for 3 years and take us or go alone to Korea for a year. My dad wouldn't shut up about how much hated Germany so he didn't have to go, so we didn't. :/

Kanzler March 10th, 2014 11:10 AM

lol why would hate germany?

Goo March 10th, 2014 11:24 AM

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure that gender and sexual orientation have no effect whatsoever on one's handwriting. However, I do prefer women and I'm female so maybe I'm only furthering that faulty idea...

Also, Germany is pretty close to me now. Now that I can live in the UK forever I want to travel all over. I only need the funds to do so.

I only know that mediterraneans, especially Greeks sorta cherish a grudge against us for some reason

Because he's a selfish cheap prick mother♥♥♥♥er and thinks that his menial self-absorbed activities in West Virginia with his high school buddies is more important than the whole of the family and its future. If we went it was likely that I would've been born there rather than at Fort Sill, but meh. If I didn't get conceived at that exact moment I wouldn't be who I am... God knows what I'd be. I'm glad I turned out like I did :P

Long story short it wasn't Germany he hated. For once in his life an oppurtunity presented itself where God forbid Mike Rose give a cent for someone else. No exaggeration on that.

Honest March 10th, 2014 4:49 PM

In other news, I learned how to say "suck it" in German. Well, a little more detailed than that, but yeah. x]

Nathan March 10th, 2014 6:34 PM

Ya know, as of recent, I've been wanting to start writing in cursive 100%. Writing in print is boring. I always love to sign my name, that's the only time I write in cursive, unfortunately. I don't even like printing my name at all either. I'm weird, I know. I should self teach myself how to write again!

Same here. My signature is so plain and boring that it could be easily forged simply because it's just cursive DX There's nothing creative I could come up with for my signature OTL

disciplish March 10th, 2014 7:48 PM

My handwriting changes with urgency. If I'm going fast or I just don't care, it's an unintelligible mess that only me and [somehow] teachers can understand. If it's something I legitimately want to take some time to write, it can come out really nicely. Usually by the end of any writing piece though my handwriting goes down in quality because my brain is like "FORGET ABOUT NEATNESS AND JUST LET THIS END ALREADY."

I'm good with my cursive, but I always mess up a random letter. Like z. :x

Sir Codin March 10th, 2014 7:52 PM

Cursive has a time and place.

Writing cursive on a sheet where I need to read your name and I can't because of your crappy handwriting just makes me hate my job.

XD That's what happens with my math notes or exercises. I'll start writing them neatly and then I start thinking, "Wait, this is math. No one cares about the neatness of your writing and you look more professional when everything looks like chicken scratch." Sometimes the numbers look different from what they're supposed to be though and the calculations are wrong OTL

Alexander Nicholi March 10th, 2014 7:59 PM

I always write in a sort of effeminate print, because I think it looks pretty and legible. My signature uses a form of ♥♥♥♥ed-up cursive specifically reserved for signatures.

And guys, you won't believe this, but... I stumbled in on my landlady watching Casino, and Joe Pesci was narrating and played a role.

...Meowth! The voice! The boss! The schemes! Everything working to plan! It's all from that movie! :DDD

Honest March 10th, 2014 8:26 PM

My handwriting, according to my friends, is unique. A weird mix between print and script, but it's nice aesthetically, when I'm not rushing. I think I might actually write something out and take a picture of it. Even though I should really finish this essay soon... been on my last paragraph for quite some time now, whoops. D:

Shhmew March 10th, 2014 10:43 PM

Dakota your handwriting is so charming, I love it.

I like how in elementary school they told us you were REQUIRED to write in cursive in high school/college/the real world, yet, at my high school, most things were typed, and everything written was just like "Um who wrote in cursive? I can't read this at all"

Tsutarja March 11th, 2014 4:44 AM

I've posted this image of my handwriting before, but I'll go ahead and repost it anyways..

Yeah, my handwriting isn't the best. I'm also left-handed as well.

Shining Raichu March 11th, 2014 7:05 AM

My handwriting is beautiful. There're pictures of it somewhere on PC, if anybody cares to dig deep enough to find them.

I'm going to go forging Zach's signature now to get his millions.

Tsutarja March 11th, 2014 7:09 AM

That's not even my real signature, it's just how I write in cursive lmao

Shining Raichu March 11th, 2014 7:28 AM

Oh right - if it were your real signature it'd say "Zach L Media"

Tsutarja March 11th, 2014 7:37 AM

Nah, it says "Shining Raichu" ;)

Khilia March 11th, 2014 8:44 AM

I actually wonder what some professional analyzer would say about my handwriting, as it's quite different from most others in terms of letter proportions and I write it rather "aggressively"; also it can depend on my mood

But I wouldn't say it's neat or beautiful or something, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder and such

Nolafus March 11th, 2014 8:45 AM

I had to switch over to cursive in order to read my own handwriting, and it still looks like crap. :P

That might even be true, I am shy and insecure about somethings sometimes, and compared to others' handwriting mine is small indeed...

Livewire March 11th, 2014 10:21 AM

Hand writing analysis is most a pseudoscience, from what i've gathered. I certainly hope so, because evidently slanted, small handwriting means I'm a sociopath and/or serial killer in training. XD

moon March 11th, 2014 11:31 AM

Eh, I just think my hands are a bit weird and write in whatever way they want. After years and years of trying to control it into something nice, it's just round blobs with occasional irregular stripes. Hm, maybe that's just what letters are though 8)

Exactly, it is a pseudoscience.

All I can think about when I hear hand writing analysis is a video I saw about prank/joke from a TV series in which the hosts were told what to say to the "costumers" by the other hosts over a microphone. Not really funny but not terrible either.

TheFattestSnorlax March 11th, 2014 2:58 PM

Because I am autistic, my handwriting pretty much looks like a kangaroo drew it. (It means that nobody else can see what I wrote until they study it thoroughly which annoys me.)

Sableye~ March 11th, 2014 3:25 PM

My handwriting is like a weird mix of cursive and print, leaning toward cursive when I'm writing quickly/sloppily. Even I have trouble reading what I write, to the point where I often just give up if I wrote too much. It isn't worth the effort of trying to figure out what I said.

Aeroblast March 11th, 2014 3:37 PM

My handwriting is still sloppy, though I did improve on it a bit, at least I can read it now.

My German skills have gotten a little better, I'm still relatively an "infant" when it comes to my knowledge on German but I'm not as clueless as I was a month and half ago.

Nathan March 11th, 2014 3:43 PM

I still dunno the difference between cursive and printing haha. The wonders of not being a native English speaker...

Treecko March 11th, 2014 4:29 PM

It's hard to explain , but cursive is when the letters are joined together like this

Print is when the letters are separate

In other words, print is what you learn at like 3, 4 or 5 and cursive is what schools make you learn around 9 or 10. I hated learning cursive as a kid, I mainly use it for signing things now lol. My cursive is admittedly better than my print haha.

Nathan March 11th, 2014 4:40 PM

Ah thanks Kouzan!

I'd say I write both quite well if I don't rush. I've been told that I write like a computer so there's that.

Nick March 11th, 2014 5:07 PM

You write like a computer? So you write in binary, right?

Nathan March 11th, 2014 5:17 PM

You got me there :p

Haha what I mean, if that makes any sense, is that I write letters almost like you'd type them on a computer. They kinda look alike.

Shining Raichu March 11th, 2014 5:21 PM

I was gonna come here and take a photo of my handwriting for you but this morning I got my finger caught in a chair and mangled it and it's on my left hand and I'm left handed so my handwriting is not its best self today :(

Nathan March 11th, 2014 5:24 PM

Matching fonts. Imagine MS Word's default font on a notebook and you get my writing style. But I have to take lots of time to write it ;;
And the teacher writes so fast, I just have to rush it.

From what I hear socializing in autistic males is very behind in childhood but irons itself out when men get in their twenties. For female autistics, it's the opposite: Their whole childhood they have the maturity of a girl in their young twenties and it kind of stays that way. :/

Wow interesting analysis... no wonder I struggled to make real life friends lately.

Pendraflare March 11th, 2014 7:48 PM

This is why I always say that females are generally more gentle and kindhearted than males. Not that i'm trying to be sexist or anything, but I have a tendency to think that way in real life and on the internet, also.

I too have autism and most of the real life friends i've had were in my earlier years, in middle and high school. Nowadays in college, most people are busy or concerned with their own problems.

Tsutarja March 11th, 2014 7:51 PM

I'm not sure how it feels to be autistic (because I'm not), but people in the past have called me autistic because I wasn't social, and this was back in middle school. Of course, that changed in high school when I overcame shyness and socialized a lot more.

Starry Windy March 11th, 2014 7:57 PM

I seconded Zach. Back then I was mistaken to be autism because I was becoming shy in a few years back, but I started to overcome my shyness little by little.

I was always wondering why we got on so well... now I know why, and also why you must have been looking up to me as a member. I must have that "heartwarming" factor or something.

Unfortunately the word "autism" to many people have been reduced to a buzzword to refer to someone that they personally find out of ordinary (even in the slightest) or don't like in any way.

That's sad to hear, and that was one of the reason why I left a certain youth group some years ago. But I heard that autism is special too in some way, so being autism doesn't mean that you're not good at all.

I think Spectrum Disorder (of which I assume is what we're actually talking about), is made up of a double-spectrum that acts as a cost-benefit weight for the disorder. Oddly, low-functioning autistics are included in the spectrum, but aren't as highlighted. I'll explain.

Essentially, what I see is two different spectrums—gradients, if you will: One is the degree in which the person's intelligence and other factors are displayed, and a second in which the inhibiting factors are grouped into a generalized array of sub-spectra. I'll use myself as an example: For me, my intelligence quotient was systematically graded at 128 at 8 years old; along with this I do have a leniency for self-absorptism and often go out of my way to further it. Positive-negative, right? As for the second spectrum I find myself largely neutral to it; when I was younger I would often have temper tantrums and would always be breaking the rules where I could (this has since passed). All of that has balanced itself to pretty much zero, and the balance in my spectrum disorder is found in the positive-negatives mentioned earlier along with some added traits that are simply in my personality.

For others, the case may be where they have an above-average rather than super-high IQ, and exhibit less self-serving behaviors and actions. I imagine that possibly the second array may be independently balanced from the first, but I'm not entirely sure. In low-functioning autistics (the mute ones and such), their brainpower is often off-the charts but is counter-acted by the fact that they have next to zero socialization skills. Then again, they may possibly on a different sub-spectrum that functions in a similar fashion as the aforementioned high-functioning subspectrum, and I realized that this is the general medical consensus.

To get a picture of the levels of spectrums, here.

Neuro-atypicals

>> polar low-functioning
>> nonpolar high-functioning
> High-functioning
>> polar high-functioning
>> nonpolar high-functioning

I've had experiences with autistic individuals back in middle school and they were brilliant, probably not overall, but they were rather intelligent in certain fields; their brain doesn't process normally, but they have their own way of making things work. Excuse me if that sounds in any way offensive to anyone. Not entirely sure if this is on the opposite spectrum to autism, but I was deemed gifted back in elementary school and that in itself created problems for me to become socially accepted by those who were not. I remember distinctly this one instance where someone was friends with me, until they learned that I was gifted; completely shunned from then on.

Oh my God, this reminds me of when my friend Devan was writing an essay in Lit and Comp on Autism, since her brother is autistic XD. I never read the essay myself, but at one point she came to me to ask how to word "autism" into the paper. I just told her straight up not to worry about soft language, and to put it in a blunt but polite manner. Basically that means call us Autistics—it's what we are. It's derogatory to just generalize us as "cripples" (and some would even argue with that), but it's also stupid to call us neuro-atypicals in common conversation (in my opinion).

If you really wanna know how I feel about that and other linguistic nuances, watch this:

I feel your pain, Live. I sliced into my thumb that same year. Plastic banding was what sliced it. At least, I think that's what I cut it on.

Finger cuts are horrid. Especially on pressure points you need to press down on frequently. I had a trainee slam my fingers in the register, and rip the skin off my index finger. I wanted to slap the sense they lost back into them
