George Carlin, rest in piece you fantastic son of a ♥♥♥♥♥.

Zorogami March 28th, 2014 1:10 PM

Wow how right he is, i didnt know he was such a critic of politics

Sir Codin March 28th, 2014 1:26 PM

George Carlin is somewhat on the money about big business and government. The big problem in America is big business paying off politicians for continued success, which is what I call cheating. That's not free market, it's not even true capitalism, it's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. People wonder why small businesses tend to fail, well how can you compete with bigger businesses engaging in protectionism?

He's also correct about the poor education being because of lower standards for success, but I don't think businesses are to blame for that entirely. Businesses should want better trained and better educated employees, it makes them more productive and competent.

Pardon me if I paraphrase a bit, but
“They don't want a population capable of critical thinking. You know what they want? Obedient workers. They want people just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork, and just dumb enough to accept these increasingly ♥♥♥♥tier jobs with the lower pay, longer hours, reduced benefits, the end of overtime, the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they're coming for your Social Security money. They want your ♥♥♥♥ing retirement. They want it back, so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street.” —George Carlin, in his 2008 special It's Bad For Ya

You probably already know him, but if you like Carlin watch some Bill Hicks.
Richard Pryor also, not totally similar but he's crudely hilarious in the same way.

Tsutarja March 28th, 2014 4:32 PM

I think I have heard of Richard Pryor, but I'm not too sure. ;_;

Crux March 28th, 2014 5:38 PM

Since we're talking about funny people, does anyone else here watch 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie'?

Tsutarja March 28th, 2014 5:40 PM

Is it sad that I'm not British and I've heard of Fry and Laurie, but not George Carlin?

Sir Codin March 28th, 2014 6:19 PM

If it makes you feel any better, I've never heard of Fry and Laurie.

Judge Mandolore Shepard March 28th, 2014 6:21 PM

While I have not watched that particular show, I have seen DVDs of it at the library where I work.

Nick March 28th, 2014 6:23 PM

I haven't heard of Fry and Laurie, but I've heard of French and Saunders and lets be honest with ourselves, they're the only ones that matter. <3

Though I do think Stephen Fry is brilliant.

Tsutarja March 28th, 2014 6:37 PM

Both Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are great if you ask me.

Alexander Nicholi March 28th, 2014 7:12 PM

To me, Carlin was far beyond standard comedy. For him it wasn't about just being funny (as hilarious as he was, I literally rolled on the floor laughing when I saw my first special of his), like it is for so many comedians. People like Jeff Foxworthy, Richard Pryor, and Denis Leary all strike me as hilarious, but the man struck a special nerve in my head that had never been hit before, and that's just something special.

Sir Codin March 28th, 2014 7:14 PM

Oh god, Denis Leary:

Crux March 28th, 2014 7:16 PM

It's actually really funny to see Hugh Laurie in the role of Dr. House, after you've seen A Bit of Fry and Laurie. :I

EVERYBODY! :D

No Cure For Cancer was pretty interesting, as terribly stolen as it was. :3

Tsutarja March 28th, 2014 7:19 PM

Oh good grief, I remember Denis Leary as the voice of Diego from Ice Age.. and lately he's been doing the voiceover on Ford commercials in my area.

Alexander Nicholi March 28th, 2014 7:26 PM

Denis Leary really was kind of an ass hole, but a likable one nonetheless. :P

El Héroe Oscuro March 28th, 2014 9:20 PM

Fun Fact: Did you know that Denis Leary was also the voice of Francis from A Bug's Life?

Hmph, the more you know...

Legendary Silke March 28th, 2014 9:58 PM

So I'm, like, boarding a plane soon.

Hiatus March 28th, 2014 10:49 PM

Cool, cool. Hope you enjoy your ride, Twig! Where are you going?

Omicron March 28th, 2014 11:08 PM

Fry and Laurie is an amazing show.

As far as comedy goes, my absolute favorite show/group is Monty Python. Their surreal sketches in Monty Python's Flying Circus are absolutely brilliant. Life of Brian and The Holy Grail are jewels as well.

Fun fact: Did you know the modern use of the word spam, as in spam mail, spamming, etc. , is derived from this Monty Python Sketch?

Tsutarja March 29th, 2014 3:45 AM

Monty Python is one of those series I have been meaning to get into for ages, but still have yet to do so D:

Also, am I the only one here that sets an alarm clock but always winds up waking up before it goes off or not? :p
