Just shouldnt say anything :3

Akiba January 1st, 2015 10:56 AM

637.

Lapmon's okay with more than half of it, and indifferent to the rest. That's already pretty good.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 11:00 AM

638

Huh. Well I couldn't say, myself. I very sparsely hand out 10 out of 10s to things. On MAL I only have 3: Garzey's Wing, Working with Voice, and Summer Wars, and two of those are jokes, for the most part.

Dedenne1 January 1st, 2015 11:02 AM

Lalala

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:04 AM

640.

You might as well give Hametsu no Mars a 10/10.

You should see how many sevens I gave.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 11:05 AM

637

I would argue 10/10 scores and 5/5 stars aren't the same. Even if you can have halves in the 5/5 score, like in Hummingbird's case, which would make it technically identical to 10/10.

For example, 3/5 is a higher score than 6/10. This might sound weird, but it is as far as I know psychological. It depends on how you process the meaning of the score in your head. Especially since 5/5 scores are often represented visually much more than 10/10 scores, which are more often than not entirely numerical.

I won't rate them because scores don't mean that much anyway, and going meta would have it make even less sense. Some of your shows I heavily disagree with, some I'm happy you liked.

Dedenne1 January 1st, 2015 11:05 AM

642
Just act like im not here ill be in the corner....

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:09 AM

Of course you're here. (It's kind of hard to break the conversation in this thread though.)

Maybe, but this doesn't apply to everyone. I imported my scores from MAL, and as I went and rescored them on Hummingbird, I only made a few half-star changes.

Dedenne1 January 1st, 2015 11:11 AM

644
Ik i dont wanna haha just wanna post haha ^_^

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 11:12 AM

645

Would you say the difference between a 1/10 show and a 5/10 show is larger, smaller or the same as the difference between a 5/10 show and a 10/10 show?

Dedenne1 January 1st, 2015 11:13 AM

646
Oops

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:13 AM

647.

Depends on what you mean by larger.

Arithmetically... yes. Logarithmically, no.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 11:15 AM

648

Primarily, your personal associations. So... emotionally?

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:17 AM

649.

Of course, it's a measure of emotion. But a mathematical trend can't be emotional.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 11:18 AM

650

I would say 5/5 and 10/10 are the same. Maybe not 3/5 and 5/10, since 3/5's are generally considered good to some extent while 5/10 is considered mediocre, but 5/5 and 10/10 are the cream of the crop, you can't really go above them.

That said, I think it goes without saying that what the scores mean are subjective. It's that way with any number scale, really. Or any grading system.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:23 AM

651.

The ratings are of course entirely subject to personal opinion. It isn't just a matter of how good the show is, but the feeling invoked in the audience.

Guilty Crown, for example. General opinion is that it's a very bad show. While I agree that the show was poorly done to an extent, I still hold a special feeling for it because of the emotional experience that it gave me.

In any case, a 2.5/5 is the same as a 5/10 for me. Same for any other crazy fraction scheme you might come up with. You could say that I'm mathematically inclined to feel as such.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 11:48 AM

652

Are you experienced with working with numbers? It would definitely make a lot of sense if the difference in subjectivity of different score systems had to do with how one's brain handles numbers.

Myself, my mind works very visually (numbers and letters have designated colours, I solve math problems using geometric visualisations (had lots of problems when math assignments asked me to write down how I solved equations), et cetera. There are probably words for these things but I'm not good at remembering words), so that could definitely cause me to view things differently. Even such a supposedly set-in-stone thing as numbers.

I remember watching a Totalbiscuit video where he made a point about different scales in video game review scores, though I can't recall which one. That man has a lot of very similar video game journalism videos.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 11:54 AM

I guess going to a Math/Science/Comp Sci magnet school helps.

There's so much corroborating fanfiction for 2hu that it's essentially canon.

That is a hell of a lot of 10s, and tabs.

Whilst most of it isn't horrible you should really expand your anime horizons past shows that aired in the last 4 years.

Does liking fanfiction make you a bookworm though, personally thought it just made you weird.

A lot of shows.

I just didn't give many of them high scores.

That makes sense, you're not really into anime.

After all, a good number of people here didn't get into anime when they were young. I'm pretty much the minority, there. And, hell, I have an aversion to network television. Other than anime, I rarely watch TV.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 2:31 PM

662.

Oh. I also didn't keep track of a lot of them, because I watched them so long ago.

Subtract 2000 from the year and you pretty much have my age.

You could have just done 668.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 2:55 PM

669

But then we would have skipped 666.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 2:58 PM

670.

@Lap Of course Rin got you hooked.

I basically stopped watching from eight to ten, picked up at Angel Beats when I was eleven. Then I had my middle school watching craze, and it's died down since then.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 2:59 PM

671

Don't just ignore this; I want to know what you have against the number 666?

Akiba January 1st, 2015 3:01 PM

672.

It's not a very nice number.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 3:02 PM

673

It might not even really the number of the beast, as far as I know it's a common misinterpretation of early biblical texts.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 3:05 PM

674

It's not. 6 represents imperfection, and 7, perfection. This is why 7 is regarded as a lucky number, and 6 is (less so) regarded as unlucky. There's also 66 and 77 which are...hm...can't really remember. But if I recall, 666 and 777 symbolize complete imperfection and perfection, respectively.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 3:05 PM

675

Clearly the people who thought of that never heard about 6666 and 7777.

Weeaboo Name January 1st, 2015 3:05 PM

674

Blood+ was the show that really got me hooked, of all things.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 3:09 PM

677

Was casually into manga for a long time, I think the first anime I watched properly was Love Hina on YouTube. In a big way, I got into a lot of anime through early Abridged Series.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 3:13 PM

Little do we know, 4 was the number hated most of all.

678

It was Orphen for me. A mediocre show about a guy trying to save his dragon girlfriend. It wasn't that good, but I was young at the time and was pretty interested in this "new thing called anime". Well, I shouldn't say that was it, but it was part of the reason- it's how I found out anime was a thing.

But I did watch legitimately good shows back then. Azumanga Daioh, the amazing dub that is Those Who Hunt Elves, possibly Angelic Layer, Kare Kano...it was a good time. There was a lot of crap, too, but at the time I didn't really care.

Weeaboo Name January 1st, 2015 3:13 PM

First manga was Battle Royale.

Appears I got my edgy phase over and done with pretty quickly.

machomuu January 1st, 2015 3:19 PM

679

It was Dragon Ball for me. I'd been following Z for years and Dragon Ball semi-recently (since it aired years later). Went to my library and found out manga was a thing when someone put a volume in the wrong section.

I didn't follow the manga, though. For a while, I didn't know there were others in the library like it.

Weeaboo Name January 1st, 2015 3:27 PM

5th of September 2010, the date I first got into long running shounenshit. Thanks Bleach.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 3:27 PM

680

Oh yeah, Dragon Ball and to a lesser extent One Piece were really popular when I was nine or so. Everybody had those books. Never got into them myself surprisingly. I managed to dodge Naruto during my teen years as well.

Then came Bleach and fucked me over.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 3:35 PM

681.

I started watching bootlegged Bleach when I was like, six. Stopped at 150.

And it was in double Japanese/Chinese dub. You couldn't hear anything.

I suppose if you don't mind them being unchaptered and without proper encoding. Only thing Crunchy are actually good for is speed. There are actually people that pay for that service, awful.

Akiba January 1st, 2015 4:25 PM

Still, paying for anime streaming is weird.

Nana's character song from the new Narudo film a cute.

Pokestick, good times. January 1st, 2015 6:34 PM

Technically a better deal than buying DVDs, if you watch enough. And you don't have to pay extra for BR in order to go above 420p. As long as you manage to avoid the comment sections and the forum it doesn't seem that bad.

Still, I'm of the stern belief that what we need is a Steam for anime. With centralised downloads, holiday sales and all.

They could hook me with something like that if they subbed a bunch of untouched oldies and made it impossible to rip subs. Not to mention money actually going to anime studios would be nice. Never going to happen.

Access to the anime library of US Crunchyroll runs me about $7 a month. Slightly cheaper than streaming only for Netflix here. Except Crunchyroll keeps series for a fair bit longer than Netflix, even the low-rated obscure ones.

Because that is totally not something /a/ concocted to show how it feels about parts of itself and non-/a/ frequenting anime fans. Actually, thinking on it, that's how other 4 Chan boards probably feel about /a/.

If you don't know or can't piece it together from the words involved, you're better off than those of us who can piece it together from the words involved and would be better served staying in the dark.

That is appalling. I'm pretty sure the US one is at least twice that (without bothering to look it up), and even the US library still feels like mostly a MY FIRST ANIME selection with some "super mature" harems thrown in.
