They're taking it slow.

No ass this week, just backstory.

Though there was nurse raep.

Anyways what anime downloader you use? I can't use torrents when I go back, but I should be able to use a downloader that doesn't upload stuff.

As for Quality, 720p is more than enough for me. With a 15 inch screen you can't really tell much difference between that and 1080p.

machomuu July 19th, 2014 1:05 PM

DomDom Anime Downloader

67

Generally I wouldn't like something seemingly shady, especially since it costs money for unlimited downloads (though there is a free version). But I tried it out once, loved it to death, and the price was cheap enough for someone like me to come back to.

Plus, I believe they recently added a lifetime version for it. It's one of those obscure downloaders that you don't think much of until you use it, but it's pretty damn fantastic. It's faster than torrenting and the anime it has come in rather quickly (it has a gigantic selection and seasonal anime are uploaded within the day). So yeah, I'd recommend it.

Pokestick, good times. July 19th, 2014 1:05 PM

But Netnet, 1080p looks goddamn wonderful on the 7" screen of a nexus 7.

I guess it depends a lot on the resolution of said screen. :P

And how the video player handles downscaling when it isn't native.

I like how Episode II of SAO II reused animations from SAO's early episodes where What's-her-face with the Dragon Pina almost gets tentacle raped by the same monster again...

Netto Azure July 19th, 2014 2:46 PM

Don't forget the totally necessary tentacle fanservice.

Also this game series holds up pretty well after all these years:

Golden Sun's a pretty big cult game, but cult nonetheless.

As for Colbert, he's pretty funny. I don't watch him, really, but in the times that my dorm roomate would have him on it'd be pretty funny. Not one for political comedians because they're basically just masking their political rants behind laughs, but if I had to watch Colbert, I probably wouldn't mind.

Pokestick, good times. July 19th, 2014 3:00 PM

Haven't watched Colbert in a long, long time. I remember that I didn't realise he was making fun of republicans the first time I saw it, so from my little perspective he just looked like a total knob. :P

To me it's a really amusing idea but I'm not really that fond of it. Not a big fan of his jokes, which is what it mostly comes down to.

The Daily Show, on the other hand, I quite enjoy. Though it's essentially the leftist equivalence of Fox news.

Don't really watch TV anymore, myself. Only currently airing cable shows I watch are Adventure Time and Korra. And Parks and Rec.

But other than that, I'm pretty much a "Download and Watch" man, and that's generally with anime. Though I'll probably watch Little Battlers eXperience when it comes to America in (supposedly) August. If the dub's bad, I'll watch for comedy. If it's good, I'll legit watch. But either way, we'll get the game if it does well (which, considering the anime on that channel, it will), and that's enough for me.

Pokestick, good times. July 19th, 2014 3:39 PM

So is it supposed to be a mystery who Death Gun is?

Watch a good mystery show instead, Pokey.

Well, in comedy mode I'll probably have popcorn, avoid drinking something in case of fits of laughter, and I'll be bracing myself for the storm of terribleness because I'll know that they butchered a great piece of work.

In legit mode I just watch.

I'm not ridiculing the character for using his IRL name. :P

The thing is that the show just visibly told us who he big mysterious bad guy is. We, the audience, now know who the bad guy is, and Kirito hasn't even entered the game yet.

Then again, who knows, might still be twists awaiting.

Sorry Netto.

machomuu July 19th, 2014 4:14 PM

104

That makes sense, but I was completely joking.

Don't use your IRL name for video streams, kids. You're already giving them A/V, so finding you will be a snap. Also, your name isn't catchy, it won't net you viewers and people will likely forget about you. Don't even try.

Pokestick, good times. July 19th, 2014 4:16 PM

105

What if you have a really catchy name?

Like Bob Dole. Or Jesse Cox. Or Kiragaya Kazuto.

machomuu July 19th, 2014 4:19 PM

106

Well, if you were named Bob Dole, people might watch you for the novelty of watching a guy named Bob Dole do non-Bob Dole related things.

If you're name was Jesse Cox, I would assume that many people would tune in, only to be disappointed and leave.

If your name is Kirigaya Kazuto and you happen to be white, you'll be known as "That Weeaboo Channel". Which might actually net you some views.

Every Saturday night, we all get together and talk really cynically about SAO. So we hate the show but still sort of love it. It's a recurring theme.

...Even if it might ruin you mentally. Actually, if you die an early death, it's most likely our fault.

Also, pff, this thread, having any kind of quality standard?

For the record, I'm a-OK with the slow pace they've got going right now. It's refreshing.

The real problem is that you get too defensive and try to run to its aid. You need to just not worry about what people think about it, because clearly Reki doesn't. He just writes because he likes it, and you should do the same for watching. Just relax and enjoy it. And stop going into SAO threads.

The ending was probably my favorite part (and hey, I didn't even see it. Just read up on it). Basically voided the series happening, and Gasai Yuno got a more likable character.

Most of the show I didn't like because the mains (Yuki and Yuno) got their way, despite not deserving it and there being nothing to balance it out. That and I hate Yuki and every single decision he makes. With a passion. Gasai, too, but not nearly as much as Yuki. He sits at the top of my "most hated anime character" list. And I don't hate too many things.

Here.

It's a love-hate relationship also. It's just that the series became so popular that it had its share of hype backlash. What I truly lament is the lack of discussion on the issues it raises. Everyone focuses on the "horrible story writing" and "harem" stuff and keeps avoiding the bigger issues it raises. Its what drew me back into the VRMMO/FRPG genre anyways.

I'm biased to Kokoro Connect because of the sub-genre. Don't ask me about it.

I guess that's where we diverge. While some don't like the story, I was perfectly fine with how it was presented novel wise.

As I mentioned before the adaptation to me was severely lacking in characterization, hence people cannot empathize with the characters.

Anyways, I really have seen this all too frequently already and I just shrug over it nowadays.

As for people watching something they hate...that always worries me. I mean if you hate it, why keep talking about it? It just raises publicity. If you don't like it, wouldn't it be better for people to not find out about it in the first place?

Anyways, I really have seen this all too frequently already and I just shrug over it nowadays.

I wasn't really giving my opinion exactly, just raising a perspective as to why someone would focus on the themes when they don't like the themes or sub-genres. If I minded harems, I wouldn't enjoy Monogatari (though it depends on how they're handled). And the story only hurt me in Alfheim; my thoughts are mostly on other aspects of the show.

All I'm saying is that unless you go to places that are specifically for SAO (stream comments, dedicated sites, etc.) or wait until a few years after the show ends, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. And it clearly bothers you, both by how you keep bringing it up and how you talk about it. I know your pain all too well, but I think that if you keep visiting that thread that you have here, on a forum with a bunch of anime fans that have mixed feelings about the show, you're just making it worse for yourself.

Quote:

Pokey had a signature that illustrated this pretty well, and I've pretty much stop expecting people to drop shows and instead expect them to ride trains they don't like too much, if at all. They're anime fans, and just like VG fans, they're going to vent about how much they hate something because it burns them up to the point that they need to. Like me with Mirai Nikki. I try not to bring it up, but I hate that damn show so much it's difficult not to, sometimes. People want other people to know that they hate something so that that apathy might spread and the listeners will either avoid it or go into it with a bias. Or, alternatively, they hate the fact that people like something that they might just dislike or be mostly indifferent to and need to vent about that. The last one probably applies to a quarter or maybe half of the SAO haters.

Among other reasons.

Netto Azure July 19th, 2014 6:02 PM

136

Well I'm not going to stop talking about it just because it hurts my sensitivities. If I don't learn to address something like fiction, how can I handle something more deeply embedded in society, issues like abortion, welfare and economy?

These are topics that are not engaged with in a rational fashion, but are instead governed all too well by emotions.

Anyways I'm just read it because I am hoping that these next few arcs would be received better, considering that the writing somewhat addresses some of the concerns of the past season.

machomuu July 19th, 2014 6:08 PM

137

Well, I think there's a difference between talking about something that's important and something that you love.

For instance, you all know how much I love Inazuma Eleven. If IE were in the position that SAO is for you, I'd certainly deal with it worse than a discussion about...say, welfare because one of those two things is important but I don't really care about them. And even if you do, you're definitely not as passionate about one as you are the other.

Netto Azure July 19th, 2014 6:15 PM

138

Well I think its time to introduce another side of me. :P

I am going to University for Political Science after all.

machomuu July 19th, 2014 6:24 PM

139

oh.

Oh.

OH.

That explains SOOOOOOOO much. I'd always wondered why you were so interested in Socio-Political matters. It all makes sense now.

In that case, I guess both would be something you have a passion about. In which case, I'd say that this is a good stepping stone for you. All I can say is that you should try not to get too defensive. People are going to be set in their ways, especially if their reasons for their opinions are flimsy (and even moreso when they're anime fans).

But personally, I rarely go to the anime forum. Being from GBAtemp, I know exactly where I need to go to see cynics and negativity, and pretty much any anime forum is a hive for that (nothing against the members) I used to be really bad with dealing with negativity (something that GBAtemp made me realize, which is why I can identify with you. I'm sure what you feel now and what I did then are mostly the same), but I mostly got over it (through the same site). Still, not a fan of negativity, so I try to stay away from said hives of cynicism.

Netto Azure July 19th, 2014 6:33 PM

140

I do tend to do that with politics nowadays. As in know that people do hold their beliefs even more closely if something attacks their world view.

Though apparently the defensiveness transferred to anime instead.

I'm trying my best to learn how to cope with it anyways. So don't worry too much. But by now the defensiveness over SAO is a psychological reflex, its been 2 years of just people hitting on it so eh.

Though sometimes I feel all of this venting and defensiveness is just me releasing stress from other issues. There's a lot of things going on that would probably break others.

I don't like discussing anime because I get annoyed when I express an opinion and people disagree to the point of telling me my opinion is wrong. Also I'm a bit anxious about my tastes and haven't gotten to the "screw you I like what I like" stage in anything so when I talk about my tastes I get nervous about being judged for them.

142. I got solicited for a poll in person by the Republican Party of Minnesota today. Humored them. Told them Net Neutrality was my biggest issue at the moment. Basically implied the Republican Party was a no-go zone for me.

Anime discussions are too involved for my lazy memory that only remembers things when a trigger is mentioned.

Knowing don, he'll just try to worm his way out of this by insisting that having the Pokemon TCG Gameboy game counts. :P

Well, I do have 3 cartridges of that game...

And despite saying I have no money for games, I come home with 5 of them from GameStop:

Ace Attorney Investigations (DS)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (DS)
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (Wii)
Project X Zone (3DS)
BlazBlue Continuum Shift II (3DS)

Whoops.

At least I now have 5 separate Buy 2 Get 1 Free coupon codes. That I can only use between the 28th and the 3rd.

And a 50% bonus coupon for any trade ins I do the last week of August. Because trading-in games is totally something I'd do.

Looking at Crunchyroll now, I really hope it's possible to turn off the comments. I wouln't be able to resist the urge to scroll down to check them every video and while not YouTube level, they seem pretty annoying.

You could do what I do and just watch on your smartphone while it sits parked on WiFi... oh wait that's right you don't have WiFi you said.

So did an H artist just get bored and make a non-H? 'Cause that's what this sounds like.

Though, admittedly, I'm a sucker for H stories. I'd read, but I'm about 65% sure they don't have it in my library system.

Nah, it wasn't that sort of manga. Simplified it is just a story about a girl finding herself.

It's by the guy that did Aku no Hana if you've seen/read that. I haven't yet but from what I know about it seems to contain similar
Spoiler:
THEMES.

I quite like his artwork, will get to the longer series later on.

@LapWeeb - Yeah, the cover art was actually the first thing that caught me, I like it.

I'll give it a looksee. Haven't busted out Manga Downloader in a while, so it'll give it (and me) something to do.

...Asada freaks out when someone simply makes a 'finger-gun' at her

Seriously?

I could understand a fear from holding a gun, or being covered in blood, but having fingers pointed at her incapacitates her?

...Sheesh, she'd be way to easy to rape...

Not that I would, or anything...
