All these anime that I keep telling myself to watch. And they all have these kawaii phrases in them. Yuyushiki Non Non Biyori Toradora Yuruyuri And half of them have Nichijou-esque art. |
12
On the topic of rape, this seems like a slightly pointless match. http://i.imgur.com/vdNC0iM.png All of those are pretty fun shows if you're in that sort of mood. edit - lol, in the time it took me to make the post. http://i.imgur.com/67reAZI.png |
13.
Okay. It's off to TPB then for me. And lel whoever SCVA is yeah they're getting r*ped. |
14
Yuyushiki is love. Yuyushiki is life. Tuesday is a sacred day. |
15
Nah, let's not talk about forced acts of pleasure on male and female people, since that makes people upset, even though (from a purely artistic viewpoint) I find it amusing The real thing, though? Absolutely not and anyone that doe so should be locked away forever Preferably on the moon |
16
See way too much of that in fictional depictions. |
17.
It was kind of a surreal experience though, back in Fall 2012. Two very similar anime, Guilty Crown and Mirai Nikki, aired side-by-side, and there was this amazing apprehension that I felt, watching them both, alternating, week after week. |
17
Guilty Crown and Mirain Nikki weren't really similar at all. There were some parallels but those can be drawn to a large amount of anime that air today. Although I suppose they were both silly fun first time round, I'm presuming most of you had read the Mirai Nikki manga long before the anime aired. As for rape in fiction, I don't see it too often because I watch and read good things. Spoiler:
|
18
Eh, they're just both tournament anime. You could compare Zatch Bell to Mirai Nikki to Law of Ueki to Eden of the East. Conceptually, they have similarities, but when you get past the surface they start to diverge. ...Though seriously, the stories for Law of Ueki and Mirai Nikki are basically the same. It's pretty creepy. |
19
Sigh its hard to talk to my grandma when just because the Europeans and the Pope show some sympathy to Palestinians means they are against Israel. u.u |
20
I'm against Israel. |
21
I'm more against this current hardline Israeli government tbh. Too bad back in the US, the Israel lobby is just as powerful as some of the other buisness interests. |
22
Ew, politics, I'd rather talk about non-consensual intercourse |
^
23 |
24
To be fair that is exactly what is getting done to the Palestinians at the moment. Touch is soooo good, you guys shouls go and read that ahead of the thing I suggested earlier on. |
25
Am I the only one who doesn't give a flying whazoo about the middle east? |
26
Nope, same here. I pretty much just ignore it. The only knowledge of the Middle-East I have is the 13 years of Catholic education that I had. And I'm not even Catholic. |
27
I'd presume the majority don't care, so no, it isn't only you. |
28
Apathy concerning people far away from you is quite widespread, yep. |
29
At least here, it seems like a lot of people care. Too many. |
30
Not going to pretend to be some kind of know all but it is a bit disappointing when people genuinely don't care about what is going on in the world outside of their own little bubble. Almost as bad as people that ram their recycled opinions down your throat at every opportunity they get. |
31
I don't see a reason to pick a side on a polarizing issue that has nothing to do with me. I know that there are only losers and not much else, and neither of those losers are the "bad guys" (if it were, it wouldn't be so polarizing). In that sense, I can see reason in not caring other than it being plain selfishness. And I don't think it's as bad as pushing opinions on people because one thing is intrusive and the other is...nothing. And there's nothing I hate more than when people complain about something and don't do anything to try to help to remedy it. Having an opinion on its own doesn't do that. |
32
I'd agree with that but I didn't actually see anybody speaking about picking sides. |
33
Yeah. Picking sides is so mainstream. |
34
So then we're just being aware for the sake of it? How is that any better or worse than not caring at all? |
35
What would you picking a side really accomplish? Unless you actually did something to try and change the situation, in which case you'd have all my respect. |
36
Is that really how you think? |
37
@Pokey - Well that's what I'm saying. I don't see why not caring at all would be any worse than just knowing if you're not going to do anything to seek change. Otherwise, it's just the same as pleading ignorance, because you're not helping anybody. I mean, I can understand if it's a moral value, but in that case I'd have to wonder if that moral is even selfish or not. It's a "what's worse, being aware and not changing or blissful ignorance" type deal. |
38
Oh, sorry. Didn't read carefully enough. Most of all, I think having a proper understanding of what's going on in the world is really important. Building an opinion based on that is good as well, though it's practically not any different from not having one, if it's a situation you don't have much control over. Then again, with the power of information and propaganda over social networks, it could be argued that everyone HAS that control these days. |
39
Opinions can be power, especially in the modern age. But it's what you choose to do with that view that divides complaint from action. |
40
DLTMS0: Now an inspirational masterpiece. |
41
I suppose whatever works for you. Whilst I am never going to change anything out there I at least like to know why phosphorus shells are falling on innocent civilians. |
42
That's a fair statement. I'm clearly not thinking clearly enough at the moment, because I'm confusing whom is thinking what exactly, and I'm too lazy to read back for further inspection. Doesn't help that most of my knowledge on this particular situation is a couple of years old and mostly given to me by sources which are biased to one side. |
43
''Am I the only one who doesn't give a flying whazoo about the middle east?'' ''Nope, same here. I pretty much just ignore it.'' The comments which started this strand of conversation. |
44
That's a pretty tame retread. The initial comments had a good deal to do with where we are now, at least. It could have been far more outlandish. |
45
Well, then. At least we can spend our privileged lives bathing in the glory of culture and entertainment. |
46.
At least the conversation is over. I don't like getting into serious debates with people online. |
47
Yeah. The way written text posts like these limit effective communication doesn't make it much easier. |

This is...random, but do you guys think an entertainment medium has ever died because the fans were just so useless and hopeless that they were the direct cause of it? Because, y'know, I look at the gaming and anime industries and the latter in particular seems to value a lot of- eh, well I won't go into it. But the point is, I see a lot of general sadness and complaint over the majority of fans among the minor majority, and though they're generally valid complaints, one thing I notice is that we're still here. And a lot of people say that "gaming is getting worse" or that "new anime are all bad", both of which I disagree with, but lately it seems like the consumer is being played like a fiddle. Feels like supply and demand in the most systematic sense: the creators create content and we eat it up. But rather then them conforming to our needs, we conform to theirs, which is why they can create samey stories/themes/mechanics/etc. and people still eat it up (which is part of why I'm against people watching/reading things they find mediocre or worse just because its anime) That was basically a mishmash of ideas and concepts I have in my head, but with that in mind, all I'm really asking is if you guys think that the fans can be the cause of the death of a medium, or if producers taking the reins might be its saving grace should it reach a low point? #SrsInDLTMS0 |

Concerning the relationship between creators and consumers, I think the game industry is going mostly in the right direction; at least in the west, and definitely to a greater extent than anime. However, animated film and similar media is very different from games in how there is little to no interactivity with the consumer. You have no control over the plot of an anime you're watching, so you'll have basically the same experience as anyone else. Because of this, the show has to have the same package of experiences and story cater to everyone watching. I would argue that this makes it more difficult for creators of this kind of media to experiment with the concept while still fulfilling the economic purpose of the media: which for anime often is to sell as many BDs and as much merch as possible. This in itself becomes a problem, as companies often focus on the factors that enable great merchandise profit rather than "high-quality" media. Why have a complex story with multi-layered characters when you can strive to make characters' personalities easily recognizable, their design attractive, and the whole package simple and likeable enough to warrant enough body pillow and beach OVA sales? You could also easily draw a comparison with Hollywood, which also happens to be really, really stale. I won't right now, though. |
We all know companies don't give a hoot about the consumer base
they just make things and hope we like it 58 |

I guess this isn't exactly a customer-product crisis, but there was the BeOS-Microsoft antitrust contravention back in the early 2000's. BeOS was supposed to be the Windows-killer, but then Microsoft went behind closed doors and told hardware manufacturers not to provide the option of shipping it with products. BeOS sued Microsoft, but then accepted a settlement of 20-odd million. Of course, if Microsoft hadn't done this, it's likely that people wouldn't be using Windows nowadays. /from a vague memory |

What people like is slop and softcore porn anyways. Though tbh its just because the Japanese market is filled with people who buy BD's for the fan service. Now if only Western fans paid the studios directly maybe things will change. But problem is the non-Japanese market has been in crisis mode and largely abandoned post-2008 financial crisis. Its only started to recover recently. TL;DR Anime is expensive and we get what we pay for. |
70
I paid for porn Why is it censored |

The reason this ties in is because when you see how huge the market is for things such as Body Pillows, various abstinence reinforces, and the general casual commercialization of sex (especially among anime and game merchandising, as well as anime and games themselves), it's not too difficult to see why. Especially considering that this is something that people grow up with and around. ... ... ...That said, being a jobless college student with no social life to speak of and no desire to get a girlfriend because it would be too much trouble and money dooooes technically make me one. Kinda cool, the part I watched anyway. The whole Japan being weird thing reminded me of our Japanese style gameshow we had on over here when I was a kiddo. |
81
They also had a Japanese Gameshow in the US where they took Americans to Japan to play a gameshow there. Interesting stuff. |

Never heard of that one. Takeshi's Castle, Ninja Warrior and Kunoichi are the only ones I remember seeing on over here. |
