Favorite Video Game Company/Developer/Publisher

Do you have a favorite developer or company for a group of video games?

For me, I'm personally a huge fan of Bethesda and their works; their newest game, a horror game called The Evil Within, looks really promising and I like seeing them stretching out into a genre of gaming that they haven't really dabbled in before.

When it comes to favorite video game developers or companies, these are some of my favorites:
BioWare
TT Games
Ubisoft
Square Enix
Bethesda
2K Games
Lucasarts (defunct)
Konami

There is only one company/developer that takes my #1 spot, and that company is now dead. It is Westwood, and it was responsible for the greatest RTSs of all time, untill EA pulled the plug and took over. Shamefully in their period EA also pushed them to release their games earlier but still they created some nice RTSs like Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2.

Honorable mentions go to Blizzard, Totem Arts, Microsoft Games and Gearbox.

Satoshi Ookami April 2nd, 2014 11:23 PM

We already had this, didn't we?

Well... what could it be...? Hm... surprisingly... it's Atlus =D Because they made Persona and all other SMTs.

Khoshi April 3rd, 2014 12:34 AM

I like DICE, the Battlefield series is simply amazing. Honourable mentions to Respawn Entertainment, made up of ex-Infinity Ward members. For independence, they did one hell of a job.

Hmm..
No I don't Really Have a favorite, Some I like more then Others but it's not that: OHH ITS FROM GAME FREAK SO I NEED TO BUY THAT.

Karma Police April 3rd, 2014 5:04 AM

Ubisoft Montreal, Bioware, Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Bethesda, Obsidian, Telltale Games, Quantic Dream, Square Enix, Rocksteady, CD Projeckt Red and Kojima Productions are all amazing studios that continue to deliver quality games.

EDIT: F*ck me I totally forgot about Valve

Spinosaurus April 3rd, 2014 7:49 AM

The idea of having a favorite developer seems pretty silly to me.

I like to not have very high expectations, so I'd rather not have a favorite developer. Hell I don't even know who'd I'd call my favorite, since video game developers tend to be very inconsistent.

^ This.
It seems like every time I get into a game series, the developers come out with, "Let's take this in a new direction to get x fanbase interested." RIP Capcom.

But seriously, I don't think there's a handful of games from any one company that I really loved. There's a few that are close to my heart, but just because I loved Eternal Darkness doesn't mean I care what else Silicon Knights put out while they were around.

Legobricks April 3rd, 2014 10:36 AM

Egosoft GmbH., German developer of the X series. They take a lot of time following each release to improve their games, and continue to support every X title. They even add content during this process, up to years after release. Seriously, who else does free content updates for singleplayer games? I guess it's because they're a small company; they can often work closely with the modding community.

Raine April 3rd, 2014 1:13 PM

Square Enix will always my favourite company because they developed my favourite series of all-time, Final Fantasy! Not to mention they are also responsible for Kingdom Hearts, which is another series I enjoy. They might not have their crap together for Final Fantasy XV, but I still respect the company and look forward to their games.

Hiatus April 3rd, 2014 4:20 PM

Definitely Nintendo; been playing their games ever since I was a kid. Legend of Zelda, Mario, Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, and ton of my other favorite series come from them. :] Alongside, I also like Capcom, Ubisoft, Rockstar, and Bioware.

Yukari April 3rd, 2014 5:26 PM

Nintendo, Square Enix, and Sega are some of my favorites. But honestly I have a favorite, because of, as spinosaurus pointed out, inconsistency.

Why do you think so?
Having a favorite developer sometimes makes you buy a game you consider but cannot decide whether to buy it or not.

mew² April 4th, 2014 12:04 AM

Valve because... I mean come on, it's Valve.
But a close runners up would be Bungie. Mainly cause their staff and creations.

Did you not read the rest of my post?

Also that is silly as hell. High expectations get you nowhere in the video game industry. I'm not gonna buy a game simply because my "favorite" developer is on the boxart.

Sonata April 12th, 2014 1:11 AM

Square enix/soft, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Activision.

And you did not read mine carefully.
I meant it may HELP you buy a game you consider.

Valve, by far.
I pray to our lord and savior gaben.
Making sure TF2 was worth the weight.

WildEagle April 12th, 2014 7:36 AM

Square Enix/Soft - Lots of classic memorable JRPGS
Level-5 - DARK CLOUD!
CyberConnect2 - .//hack series
Naughty Dogs - TLoU, Crash, Jax & Daxter, Uncharted

Arsenic April 12th, 2014 9:57 AM

Crowbar Collective right now, followed by Valve closely.

While one is rather new to the battlefield, there one remake of one of the most famous games of all time was so good that it got them the the newest Source engine available, and the go to for selling the game on Steam.

Valve because they've never made a bad game. Ever. They made my favorite game universe, Half-Life, and are one of the most awesome studios for how active they can be in the community.

I only recently discovered Level-5 actually because of Ni no Kuni, and then realized that they're the same developers for the Professor Layton series as well! The latter of which I haven't played any game from yet, but I will once I have more time to spend gaming (: Those puzzle games look fun, and the critics have apparently thought so too. Also, the same situation with Naughty Dogs. Was never interested in any other studio, to be honest, other than Square Enix until I noticed that I should expand my library. Picked up The Last of Us, and have no regrets; they are an amazing studio, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they can potentially do with the PS4.

Level-5 had some of the best JRPG's in the ps2 era. If your interested and you have ps2 here some of my favorite games from Level-5 in the ps2 era:
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Rogue Galaxy

PSP:
Jeanne d'Arc

DS:
Layton Series
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Ni no Kuni, was one of the favorite games on the ps3. Hopefully Level-5 can deliver some good rpgs on the ps4 (Dark Cloud 3 *wishes*). Naughty Dogs is one of my favorite western developers. TLoU really cemented them as one of the best developers in the West. I can't wait for TLoU Remaster on PS4 and Uncharted for PS4. They were able to push ps3 capabilities with TLoU, I have no doubts TLoU Remaster on PS4 will be graphically amazing.

Satoshi Ookami April 14th, 2014 1:08 AM

Level 5 also made Yokai Watch game xD

Btw... it's Naughty Dog, not Dogs.

As tempting as TLoU on the PS4 sounds, I probably won't get it \: I'm fine with how the graphics are currently, but I wonder if they have any additional plans besides Uncharted 4, and that game-wise.

Basically this. If I had to choose I'd say Nintendo because I've loved a lot of their games ranging from the expected like Pokémon and Mario, to the most interesting (though still entirely expected) titles like Kid Icarus, but countless developers have made games I love and they've equally made games I've hated including Nintendo, so I don't think it's logical to choose just one. It's a bit of a cop out answer I know, but it's the result of putting some thought into the question after I was blindly going to answer "Nintendo they made cute games yay". XD

I like this line of thought, but I still have a favorite. Rareware from pre-MS days. That was a golden time for that company.

I also, in agreement with you, think devs tend to be hit or miss. Like, id Software had a lot of good games in the 90s, but now they aren't very relevant.

However, I still think the question is valid because it's like asking who your favorite author/director is. I tend to like Christopher Nolan's films, for example, and I absolutely detest Michael Bay. When it comes to devs, though, they're a group of people and so the quality (or lack thereof) seems to be less consistent, as you pointed out.

Finally, sometimes a game is developed by "Nintendo" but Nintendo has different studios within. The studio that develops Star Fox isn't the same one that develops Fire Emblem. Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario (I think) but I don't think he's involved in his games anymore.

Chocolate™ April 17th, 2014 12:02 AM

My favorite developers have to be Game Freak, Naughty Dog and Mojang. So brilliant.....
