are eshop downloads only downloable through the 3ds?

why no option for a simple purchase and download on computer and usb transfer? how obvious will their attempts be to monetize to the maximum before people realize that capitalism is a dumb system

enjoying a potential 7-8 hour download which i could have had in about 30 minutes if nintendo didnt have its head so far up its own ass

You mean that you would like to download your games to the computer instead of directly through the 3DS? I suppose they want to make it as simple as possible - kids who download games (or grown ups for that matter) might not want to fiddle with files on the computer and transferring to a portable console just to save some time. Buy it in eshop, wait for a bit and then play, seems simple enough. But I see your point. Unless I misunderstood something :B

An option for it would be nice. Flipping Resident Evil took most of the day to download...

It may be frustrating with the way it currently is by only being able to download through the eShop, but you have to realize that piracy would be at a much greater risk if they just simply let people download game files on to their computer. Sure, I guess you could do the same thing by downloading through eShop and then putting your SD card into a computer, but minimizing that risk is probably more important for sales than convenience.

And since this is really a general gaming thread/question rather than relating to Pokemon specifically, I'll move this over to our Video Games board for you, where our mods over there can decide what to do with this.

MOVED.

It's handy having it there on your console in a matter of minutes, however it is a pain if you don't have a great internet connection and have to wait to find a suitable place to download. I suppose the option would be nice! Though given that I buy most of my games in a physical copy it's kinda obsolete.......

Nintendo takes piracy pretty seriously, especially when so many of their older games have been made available for emulators (not sure if they authorized that, but since they push to re-release a lot of their old games on Virtual Console, I extremely doubt it and, as an honest customer, refuse to use emulators). They produced the games for their own systems, so they have the right to restrict downloadable games to their systems only. I wouldn't be playing a lot of games if they were made widely available for other devices, especially since most of said devices don't have physical buttons anymore (i.e. tablets, smart phones, touch-screen computers, etc.).

Do you refuse to use emulators for games that have been re-released or all games completely? You playing an emulated game that's out of production and not being sold online doesn't harm the company any; even if you bought a real cartridge, they wouldn't see any of the money because all the cartridges are used.

All games. I generally got/get my games when they're new, but only recently got into re-releases of older Nintendo games that I never had the opportunity to play to begin with. That aside, though, I really don't trust emulators... I should explain that I'm actually VERY particular about the hardware and software I use for gaming (or basically anything), so I avoid emulators like the plague.
