They're giving away a shiny kanto starter June 28th at the Ocala Comic Con in Ocala, FL to whoever can defeat the Elite 4 they put together. There's also a big tournament where youc an win a 3dsxl and a gift certificate to gamestop.

I'm nowhere near Florida. Lol. I would sweep them with my level 99 Shiny Magikarp. =P

EmberFyre May 17th, 2014 8:50 AM

I randomly came across a shiny drifloon. It's my first shiny!

Psywing May 17th, 2014 11:21 PM

So, I got my Shiny Charm last night. Today, I started hunting the Friend Safaris for Pokemon to IV breed. Now, I have never been lucky with finding shinies before, except for chain fishing, which is pretty easy.
I got two shinies in FS in under 30 minutes and I hatched a shiny Mankey (while trying to pass down Seismic Toss to another Pokemon). So, that's three shinies in under two hours. Either I got lucky today, or that Shiny Charm works :D

Ugh, I reached a chain of 39 for Litleo and it broke. I swear, the patch was perfect. I actually kept resetting a good few times to find a perfect patch, too. Gonna take a break to IV breed. I'll try again tomorrow.

ScytherXScizor May 19th, 2014 7:49 AM

Just found a shiny Caterpie on my first Y playthrough :)

Mason69 May 19th, 2014 8:13 AM

Hatched a shiny espurr in 15 minutes the first time I tried to breed for shinies in Y, ever since then I started breeding for a shiny mareep and never got another one :(

She_Delphox May 21st, 2014 8:19 AM

rofl Two weeks ago I started playing my newly bought Pokemon Y game (I also have X but already completed everything in the game and already have almost 60 shinies in there through FS, breeding MM and chain fishing).

I was two hours in the game (just started) and when training I found (and caught) a Gentle shiny (male) Bidoof on Route 22 xD But, still a shiny nonetheless :3
This is my first random shiny in the X and Y games without the Shiny Charm or chaining or anything ;) quite funny it's a Bidoof imo (luckily I didn't have a shny Bidoof on my X game).

Nice! I love hearing success stories!

PSNGhost May 23rd, 2014 12:38 AM

I had: Skarmory, Froakie, Shiftry, Basculin, and clawitzer, and lost them all in a save file corruption. T_T

She_Delphox May 24th, 2014 7:00 AM

:D

I'm so happy, just now I caught a wild Shiny Tauros at Route 12, Lonely nature which suits him great imo :D

This is my second random encounter Shiny (and my 2nd shiny) in my Pokemon Y game :D So far I obtained in this game:
- Shiny Bidoof at Route 22
- Shiny Tauros at Route 12

I haven't obtained any items like Oval Charm, Shiny Charm or Pokeradar yet (I do got all of those items in my X game, and I have many more shinies in my X game). I just got into this game, I obtained my third badge ^_^ Will continue to train, I wasn't expecting this ofcourse, I was so glad I just had enough Pokeballs with me, since Tauros can be hard to catch :3 My Shiny Tauros also has Anger Point, which raises his Attack and Rest as a move so I tried to catch him as soon as possible when he used Rest ;) It's in a Premier Ball now!

Even with over 60+ shinies (all obtained myself in a legit way ofcourse) and now 2 in my Y game, my mouth still drops when I encounter one :3 :D

Keep up the hunting everyone! :D

If I just could say this to you :), no one has to be 'good' or 'bad' at shiny hunting, it is all a matter of luck to be honest... Therefore, some people have more luck than others and I know that this can be frustrating...

The only tip I can give you is to be patient at all times and be always prepared :) You never know when a random shiny appears, or you could try to keep on breeding using Masuda Method to start with :) Remember, patience is key and don't let the game beat you! Your patience will be rewarded with a shiny and there isn't anything better then that after the hard work you put into it :D

Akuryou Inushii May 27th, 2014 11:05 AM

Masuda Methoding for another shiny Amaura~ So excited to be on my first batch of eggs. ^^~

Skystrike May 28th, 2014 5:43 AM

Just yesterday, I found a random shiny Caterpie, without hunting for it.

I do plan to do an Eevee project, to get all shiny Eeveelutions.

WishCookie May 28th, 2014 10:07 AM

I just bred a shiny freakin' Vulpix! :D

Tyheamma May 28th, 2014 12:27 PM

Gave up today breeding for a shiny Minccino at about 200 eggs. ): I'm so impatient.

Before that I hatched over 400 eggs for a shiny Eevee.

The only shiny I've ever had is a shiny Machoke in diamond, I lost my copy of that game though. :/

Akuryou Inushii May 29th, 2014 6:56 PM

Currently breeding Amaura.

Just gottmy Shiny Charm! =3

Tyheamma May 30th, 2014 8:27 AM

So I just HAVE to come on here and rant. I've been chaining for four hours straight! I don't think I've ever played a game for so long without a break, I have serious square eyes right now.

I managed a chain of 36 Snubbul when a Golett broke it. But I swear to high heaven the piece of grass was exactly the same as the last 36 I stepped in! I'm sure it's just trolling me. I've had numerous other successful chains, and the music has changed and made a different noise twice, which I assume was a shiny, but I couldn't find the correct piece of grass because like, seven started shaking at they were all pretty much the same. *sigh*

At least it's more interested than hatching eggs for shinies... I have up after 1000 shinies and no luck.

I just want a stinkin' shiny I can say I've caught/bred myself lol. Any advice? This is really starting to take the peas. ):

While I can't do much in person, I suggest being really picky about grass patches. It got me a Shiny Furfrou. ^^ Tell me how this works for you!

I thought I was being cautious, obviously not enough. I think I just rush a little after I chain about 20... not worth starting from the beginning though I guess! Thanks for the advice and congrats on the Furfrou. C:

Congratulations on the shiny! I found a shiny Illumise on a chain of 4 today, and I also found a shiny Smeargle but it struggled itself to death. ;-; Going to reclaim it soon.

Tyheamma June 2nd, 2014 9:43 AM

Aww that's too bad. ): Congrats on the Illumise though, they look so much better shiny than in their normal colour.

I've become a bit of a shiny hunting pro. ;) Got myself a shiny Luvdisc, Poliwhirl and Seadra today. I wish I'd know how easy fishing for shinies was a few days ago! The Poliwhirl took about 45 minutes, but I got the Luvdisc on my fourth catch and the Seadra around the 20th. So I'm pretty happy today.

Now just to get my shiny Snubbul!

Pochama95 June 2nd, 2014 9:45 AM

Honestly I didn't think I was going to be blessed with this many shinies on my own effort.

My MMs: Ralts, Marill, Ghastly, Zangoose
Hordes: Cubchoo, Cubchoo, Psyduck
Safari: Machoke (in just 2 encounters)

For MM I'm gonna try Scraggy, Dribloon and Trevenant next. As for hording I'll just find them while EV training.

Psywing June 2nd, 2014 11:11 AM

I chained a shiny Riolu last night, but I got him so easily (chain 15), I traded him away on the GTS for a Therian Forme Thundurus.

Grats on the Illumise. Sorry Smeargle got away from you. That almost happened to me, too. He was on his last bit of HP, then I was like..."Ugh, I'm gonna have to chain this guy again.." I threw a Repeat Ball at him and said "Staaaayy..." And boom, got him..XD

Rich43421 June 2nd, 2014 11:33 AM

If anyone on this thread thinks they have bad luck with shinies i have made two rom hacks and finished yellow, blue, gold, fire red, sapphire, ruby, emerald, diamond, platinum, black, white 2,and Y never have found a shiny in any pokemon game ever :(

Anyone else finding shiny legendary birds for simple Pokes? I got a Shiny, Five IV Articuno off of the GTS for a Vanillish. :P

matatk June 4th, 2014 5:56 PM

does anyone have suggestions on finding a shiny Ralts?
i really want to find one.

She_Delphox June 5th, 2014 12:26 PM

Ahw I just hatched an ADORABLE Shiny Pichu (57 Eggs)! :3 It's a male and it knows Volt Tackle because I wanted my first Volt Tackle-Pichu to be shiny and fight for me in my All-Shiny-Kanto-Team (which consists now of Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Pidgeot, Pichu).

I still need to breed a last shiny Kanto Pokemon now, will focus on that soon :3

If you're up for this, the most reliable thing I could suggest is the Masuda Method. Try breeding for a shiny Ralts (with two foreign parents like a Japanese Ditto and a Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir of your own). You will need a lot of patience and persistence but eventually it pays off! :) Good luck!

Psywing June 5th, 2014 11:44 PM

Chained a shiny Spritzee, Ducklett and Phantump tonight. Probably took around 4 hrs total.
For the past few days, I have tried chaining around Route 10 and that is a pretty frustrating area to chain in. My chains broke a few times because no grass shook (I am assuming it is because of the rocks, even though I did not step in a patch that was next to the rocks or anything that would qualify as an edge). Then, I decided to try again and take precautions not to step in patches that would break it and that proved to take very long. After 3 hrs, I had only reached chain 27 and was starting to feel sleepy, so I gave up.
Anyone had any luck chaining in Route 10? If so, which area of Route 10 did you chain in? I really want a shiny Hawlucha and Eevee and the MM and FS methods bore me to death.

I love chaining at Route 10, it's where I got my first shiny - Hawlucha not so long ago. I chain in the part that is on the right hand side, just underneath the woman in the green dress. But to be honest, I end up all over the place lol. I know one of the rules is to 'never enter grass on the edge' but I have numerous times and it's not broke my chain. Maybe because I set the radar after each time I found one on the edge. So perhaps that's something you could try?

I personally find it easy to chain here, as my vision doesn't seem to great when looking at a screen and I can't differentiate between grass when it's all in a big block. The gaps and the rocks really help me to see better.

I had a break recently for chain fishing, which was really successful. I might go back to Route 10 now to chain for that ever elusive shiny Snubbul! ^^

DarkPoke001 June 6th, 2014 3:40 AM

Spent literally WEEKS trying to breed Squirtle using Masuda Method to get a Shiny, go in a Friend Safari and before long, a SHINY WARTORTLE appears!! :)

I've been playing pokemon games since I was 6 (Pokemon Crystal : My first, and most true love ^.^) And I have never had ANY shiny other than the gyrados, that they practically throw into your lap in gen 2... Until last week after COUNTLESS hatches at trying for a shiny froakie... I got it!!!!... And it had torrent somehow -.- I've never been so mad at pokemon in my life, so I traded it on wonder trade, figuring someone might appreciate it, and got a mudkip back from it... Not the worst thing since, I didn't have one, but still.

Yeah, but for me it's been 16/17 years of playing 12 of which were really dedicated... You'd think by at least happenstance, I'd found one other than the gyrados.

Cyclone June 6th, 2014 3:46 PM

Posted this in the journal thread, but now that I think of it, it might fit here more.

Last nite, I was training in my available Audino Safari, with the Chansey available in the third slot and Teddiursa in the first (a great experience building Safari!). I had two Diggersby tagging along for Pickup abilities, which started at Lv.3 and just kept going up with the Exp Share, and I only brought them because they have the extra boost for trade leveling (received at Lv.3, but never used the Amie with them). During the long training session, I finally reached Lv.48 and taught one of them Super Fang, omitting it from the other as I decided I would take the one with the move later to help catch Zygarde and Mewtwo (which I have yet to do in the game, instead importing a Lv.70 event).

Right after reaching Lv.48, the very next encounter was a Shiny Teddiursa, my second Shiny encounter in the game (the first being a Bellsprout that I had to carefully leave alive while defeating the rest of a horde). My heart skipped a beat for a moment when I realized I had nothing below Lv.48 due to the extensive training, and no Quick Balls...then I remembered Super Fang, just taught. While I later experimented and Grass Knot WOULD have been good for a single hit, I couldn't take my chances at that moment and swapped Diggersby in for his first battle. Two bites later, I had a Lv.30 Shiny Teddiursa in a standard Pokéball and Diggersby standing like a boss with hardly any effect.

Teddiursa has 81 HP and stats of 68 44 35 44 35, giving me perfect IVs likely in Attack, Defense, and Special Defense. I'm thrilled. I was even more thrilled when I read "Honey Gather", its hidden ability. I don't intend to use it for the time being, but if I eventually get it cloned, I might have to train one myself since I can then add Shiny Ursaring to my Dex.

shikyo93 June 8th, 2014 4:54 PM

I have a shiny Infernape and Magikarp. I'm looking for a male shiny axew, gibile or froakie with perfect IV's and non hacked. If you have any of them please PM me.
I also have a few legendaries for trade including Reshiram and Celebi

Quite an inspiring story. I'm glad everyone's working hard to find shinies. I have a success story of my own from last night!

So I was just doing some REs to check out my new shiny Vivillon and shiny Girafarig, and on the second RE I found a shiny Bunnelby! It's now a Diggersby, and honestly..it's a bit disappointing. But hey, a shiny is a shiny. :3

vestalcoon June 10th, 2014 5:03 PM

I've got a shiny Ditto I'm interested in trading if someone makes a good offer. His name's Apallo. He's got a 31 IV in Special Defense. SOMEONE TAKE HIM FROM ME

Cyclone June 11th, 2014 6:01 AM

I found a second Shiny Teddiursa last nite. Haven't done a stat check. Interestingly, I didn't have a good battle for it at the time as everything over-leveled it badly enough to decimate it without capture; fortunately, I had Sleep Powder as a move, and one dusting of that allowed for a quick and easy capture.

EDIT: Go figure. I now have a third Shiny Teddiursa. Let me grab this horseshoe out of my butt...

Bowlstir June 12th, 2014 3:51 PM

Well,
yesterday was a great day for shiny hunting for me :D

2 shiny clamperl (fishing) and a shiny chansey (friend safari)

The chansey has perfect IV's in def, sp atk, and sp def. (Guessing that's good for competitive?)

Now hunting for a shiny dratini in Route 21. Also, trying to get good at the Pokeradar like i was in 4th gen. (7 Shiny electabuzz, 4 shiny larvitar, 2 shiny skitty, 2 shiny wingull)

Good luck to everyone, keep on hunting.

Akuryou Inushii June 13th, 2014 2:12 PM

I now have over ten boxes of shinies collected from all gens~ =3

Funny you mentioned Chansey. My three Shiny Teddiursa all came - WITHOUT the Poké Radar, I note - from a Safari that contains Teddiursa, Audino...and Chansey.

EDIT: Shiny Audino finally put in an appearance. I'm now getting Shinies at the rate of, oh, one every couple of days. I saw a thread give it 1/512 odds.

Lil MuDkiP849 June 14th, 2014 5:58 PM

Wow, I'm amazed at some of the luck in this thread. I haven't found my own shiny yet unfortunately =(. I haven't tried for one specifically but I've been playing, breeding and catching for a while now >.> lol.

My little brother however caught a shiny Calm natured Altaria in his Black 2 while just playing through the game normally...lucky devil lol

adameastment June 15th, 2014 8:40 AM

Well, I was considering starting a shiny collection. But I figured I'd wait until I get the Shiny Charm until I truely begin my search. However, I just managed to get a shiny Larvesta using the Masuda Method :D so pleased!

Cyclone June 15th, 2014 10:00 AM

I made a discovery today.

I decided to start a Meowth breeding project, so I took a baby Meowth and imported it into Kalos after cloning it (I hope I cloned it...). I leveled it up, let it evolve, and used it to do some breeding, keeping an eye out for the pink tail and darker fur for a Shiny.

What I did not notice: the very Meowth I evolved from Unova, and the exact same one I used to breed two 5IV Meowth this morning, is that very Shiny. It's now a Lv.61 parent to 20 Meowth, around half of whom have been sent over WT (with more to come).

And I didn't even notice I had a Shiny right under my nose.

Heir June 15th, 2014 10:10 AM

I spent a good 2 weeks looking for a shiny honedge using the Matsuda method, because i figured it wouldn't be as hard as it was. After I finally managed to get it, with a good 11 boxes full of honedge, I tried to get a shiny Gallade, which was worse because i got 2 shiny ralts that were both female before finally getting a male.

Doing a few hunts currently, I have a shiny Zoroark up for trade, it's level 51. I am accepting offers~

Cyclone June 18th, 2014 11:20 AM

Spent some more time in the Normal-type Teddiursa/Audino/Chansey Safari. I finally encountered a Shiny Chansey at about 2:53 PM EDT. I panicked because I had been leveling up some Pokémon for the Dex and didn't have any good movesets available. The Quick Ball failed to do the job.

Wrought with worry and pondering for a couple of minutes, I finally took the five-IV Lv.37 Meowth I was leveling (lowest available level at the time) and sent it out to use Pay Day. Thanks to a Minimize, it took three attempts, and drained more than half the HP. A Take Down or three from Chansey lowered it slightly more via recoil (5 HP each time) while I chucked Pokéballs in failure, then it used Soft-Boiled and went back into the green. Feeling almost sick, I used Pay Day again and sent it down into the red. I knew if another Soft-Boiled was used it would be too strong to capture, and almost impossible to hit again without making it faint, meaning I'd have to let it heal fully before trying again.

Literally on the edge of my seat, my next Pokéball failed, and again it was using Minimize and Take Down. The following Pokéball shook thrice and clicked, and the trifecta was complete. Got every Shiny from that Safari now. I'll still train there for the XP at times, but I can explore Shinies from other Safaris now.

It's always nice to hear that sparkle..I get so excited when I hear it! I hope you find a shiny soon! Try chain fishing, it's the easiest method, just make sure to time your reels right and bring a Pokemon with Suction Cups/Sticky Hold. Octillery or Inkay/Malamar would be best suited.

BballLuke13 June 21st, 2014 5:28 PM

I ran into a shiny Amoongus by accident a few months ago.
Then I started chaining for a shiny Magikarp. Got one on the bus on my way to school, and immediately traded it to my friend for a shiny Ursaring.
The next day, I got another one during lunch, and then traded it to my other friend for a shiny Honedge, which is now an Aegislash (WORTH IT!)
About a month after that, I traded my Zekrom for a perfect IV shiny Serperior (also worth it) seems legit, too)).
It's funny, because I then traded my other Serperior for another Zekrom, which I then traded for a shiny Croagunk. I'm not a huge fan of Croagunk though, so I'm trying to trade that, too (SHINY LAPRAS PLEASE).
I'm currently using the Masuda method for a shiny Zorua. Trying to get at least 5 eggs hatched per day; I'll get it eventually.

Cyclone June 21st, 2014 5:59 PM

I've started working on my Shiny Charm progress. First step: the Kalos Dex. However, I just imported 30 babies recently, and am first working on Steel Wing Vullaby. I have a 5IV in each species, so just gotta train them and then breed. This is actually fun. :)

Also popped a batch of Slowpoke Eggs for an evolution trade, there and back. So I plan to have a 5IV Lv.1 Slowking.

I'm not worrying too much about Masuda Method until I get the extra ticks from the Shiny Charm. Then I'm going breeding. Until then, I'm doing a TON of Wonder Trading via my breeding rejects and storing whole groups of foreign Pokémon (got eight from France in one box). I hope to eventually use them with some 5IV specimen towards getting a decent-IV Shiny.

I'm trying to MM a shiny Electrike, Kalos-caught is preferred. I'm also planning on trying to chain Fletchling, and Scatterbug for shinies.

I have yet to find a shiny in pokemon X and Y, but I have gone to the extent of breeding one. I breed a shiny Eevee that then became my beautiful Espeon (I think a bright green Espeon is cool ;P ) but I have never tried to find a shiny in the wild... so, I ask, any tips?

Search in a Friend Safari. You have better odds, and they get a minimum of two 31 IVs and possibly a hidden ability. Just ask my four Shiny Teddiursa (one which accidentally joined my party and quickly became an Ursaring), my Shiny Audino, and my Shiny Chansey. Meanwhile, I did locate in a horde a Lv.14 Shiny Bellsprout that took ages to isolate because the team did a great job using troll moves to make quick work of their Lv.41 or so opponent (my Pokémon!), and even after an energy refill or two, I finally gave up and let it faint, then sent out something else to finish the isolation.

TheKurtzinator June 28th, 2014 12:54 AM

Chain fishing has done wonders for me as I have caught a shiny Lanturn, Bascullin, Corsola (which is aptly named Coral Blue #5), a Magikarp which is now a Gyarados, and a Poliwag. I have one shiny from Masuda Method: Greninja. Finally, I have two others I got in a trade: Drilbur and Dragalge.

I've been lucky this generation, as I have been playing Pokemon for ten plus years now and I just got my first shiny in January of 2014 (Lanturn).

Psywing June 28th, 2014 9:52 AM

Got to a chain of 38 for Fletchling....Bunnelby broke the chain. I was stunned for a while, because I was trying to figure out if I made a mistake and mistook a medium shake for a violent shake. (I had been chaining for 3 hours and eventually they all start to look like the same shake to me XD)
While I was on the verge of almost crying, the battle cam zoomed in on Bunnelby's face, something like this:
http://tinyurl.com/os7hhsp

I felt like he was taunting me, haha.
I usually take breaks while chaining to rest my eyes, but it was getting pretty late and decided I wanted that shiny Fletchling before I go to bed. I blame myself...not poor Bunnelby. He is innocent....right?

DAT BUNNELBY DOE. x3 Lel, it's really okay. =3

St.Silver June 30th, 2014 1:24 AM

Probably something common these days but i was hunting for a Perfect Ditto in the Safari last night and after 30 or so encounters i found a Shiny Ditto! Was only 2 IV's but can i really ask for more :P?
Also hatched a shiny Happiny yesterday as well!
Quite pleased with it all!

Lunar June 30th, 2014 11:21 AM

Yesterday I spent about two hours in the friend safari searching for a shiny helioptile, ended up getting a shiny galvantula instead! Still im really pleased with as it could be a good addition to my team although i am yet to check its IV's

ilias_ June 30th, 2014 12:51 PM

I just caught a shiny Gothorita! I almost killed it omg I was so nervous. This is my 5th shiny Pokemon in X. :) I'm playing Pokemon for like 10 years and this is the first time I'm getting so many shiny Pokemon! I feel so lucky ^^

Edit: I just caught a shiny Quagsire in the Friend Safari! It's the first shiny I get from the safari! ^^ omg!

Cyclone July 4th, 2014 8:56 AM

So.

I wasn't really hunting, per se. However, I got a surprise today.

I started breeding Eevee in an attempt to get a female from one of the Anticipation males I keep getting via WT. (BTW, I am finding that EVERY Eevee on Wonder Trade is male...what gives? Quit trading them, they're WAY TOO COMMON!)

I bred 18 Eggs. I kept the last five that I received.

The first Egg that popped, subject #15, was a Mild-natured Shiny Eevee. And it acquired the Hidden Ability Anticipation!

FYI, I don't have the Shiny Charm yet. The Masuda Method was active, however, as it was my foreign Shiny Ditto that was the partner.

I know that feeling all too well unfortunately ._____. I too, wanted a Shiny Fletchling for ages, so I decided to chain one with the radar. On chain 39: A wild Bunnelby appeared! T__T Believe me they MIGHT do this on purpose xD it was something like: "U mad? I tricked you" ...And I was eating away my soul inside... o___o so there goes my 2 hour chain...

Eventually I decided to quit Pokeradar and do a Masuda Method for a shiny Fletchling instead, I got it on my 62th Egg or so! :3 I was really happy ofcourse, it's now a shiny Lv:71 Talonflame (he is the best)!

I do hope you will manage to get the shiny Fletchling too!! Good Luck and hang in there! :D

Zenfyre July 4th, 2014 3:24 PM

I'm so terrible at finding shinies with the radar, but I have had a lot of luck with hours of encounters at the friend safari.

Recently I have found two Braixens, a Noibat, a Camerupt, and a Sigilyph within the past week or so. Gave one of the Braixens and the Noibat to my sister because they were her most wanted shinies, but I kept the rest. I don't have the shiny charm yet but so far I have ended up with a lot of my favorites.

I tried using that item to chain hunt shinies but I swear there is a patch of grass that doesn't shake that will break your chain. Ran into it to many times after getting to about 15 chains multiple times and gave it up. Never saw the grass shake once.

Just a heads-up, guys; this isn't the trading forum, unfortunately, and due to that, we cannot make any requests that relate to them. For all your trading needs, please head over to Trade Corner, which could be found right here. If this kind of thing continues, then I might have to close this thread down, sadly; sorry! Let's use it only to discuss shiny Pokémon, yeah?

Rayheart July 9th, 2014 1:57 PM

Hello, just joined the forums.

I caught shiny ivysaur and wartortle from friend safari today.

I got 2x shiny poliwhirls, shiny mienfoo, shiny garvedoir with 6IVs , shiny octirelly, shiny relicant and shiny croagunk. :) I started playing Pokemon X last week. I found finding / catching shinies easier than previous versions. I am breeding to get a shiny charmander now. Hatched over 700 eggs but no luck.
