How much procrastination is too much?
i have an extremely bad habit of procrastinating. instead of doing all of the 4 or 5 projects and essays that i'm supposed to do right now that are all due within the next 2 weeks, I've done absolutely nothing but procrastinate and say "o ill do it later" (ive known about all these assignments since the beginning of the semester). well later came and went right past with no work done at all! i don't know why i do this to myself and ill never understand why. i need some motivation people....or at least some people to procrastinate with. so tell me some of your procrastination failures and even successes....it's not like my essays are gonna be written anytime soon anyway :'(

Yeah, i'm probably the worst person ever to give you any sort of helpful advice with this because i'm a serial procrastinator myself!
I always found that for things like homeworks, exam revision etc it helped to have a timetable, where you'd allow yourself a certain time frame from which to work with. I've also heard people say music helps but honestly it doesn't really make a difference with me either way. |
Do things as soon as you can, as fast as you can, and as well as you can. You'll have free time when you're done and you'll be all the more satisfied with that time.
I prefer finishing early and enjoying my time without worry |
Yea I'm one of the worst people to talk about for this. At our school we have different communities and I'm in New Tech which is where we do every single thing on laptops. I haven't picked up a pencil in 4 years, at the beginning of the school year we're given laptops and one of the first things that I do is put pokemon onto it and then I play games all day during every class. I usually don't get out projects even started until the last two or three days before they're due. But anyways.
Now, a little bit of advice is a reward system. When I do actually do work like I'm supposed to, what I do is I do about 20 minutes of good constant work, and then I reward myself with playing a game aka procrastination. Then I do this about every day and in every class. |
I've always been a procrastinator, however, as Triforce said, you really got to force yourself to do it. I do a lot of projects and stuff extremely last minute and I regret it everytime. I've done things ahead of time before, and it's a great feeling. Once you do it once, you'll understand how much nicer it is and it might make you want to continuously get things done ahead of time.

✔ Reading chapter for a quiz on the bus ride to school.
✔ Completing a worksheet while going up the stairs to class. ✔ Spending over half of my lunch period to do a homework assignment that is due in an afternoon class. ✔ Texting group members what to wear the morning of a group presentation. ✔ Watching several hours of anime the weekend before final exams. ✔ On the morning it is due, finishing up a 4,000 word extended essay that was assigned a year ago. My professor says life goes on. |
thanks for the advice everyone, ill make sure i follow all the tips.....just as soon as im done watching youtube videos for the next 3 days.....damn it...
|
I hear you, i'm a pretty bad procrastinator myself. I have a big project in one of my classes to present on Thursday that i've barely started, and a draft for an essay in another that I was supposed to send in last week but didn't because I was like, "1500 words in such a short time period?! Fudge that!" And for Spanish, I have a paragraph i've been desperately trying to think of something for for two weeks and have to re-write it on my own but haven't thought of a single word. Yeah, i'm not good with this at all.

I'm someone who suffers from procrastination. I have to do most of my assignments on the last 2 or so days before it's due. I usually find myself on Youtube or playing games.
Just try to get yourself away from things that may draw your attention. Take my laptop off me and I'll do all my studies! ...after crying about losing my computer. :s |
My rule of thumb was always, as long as it gets done on time it doesn't matter! I could have weeks to finish something and wait until the last night to get it done, sometimes even waking up in the morning to finish up. xD I found I worked faster and got more into whatever I had to do, if I knew I HAD to be finished the next day or two. xD
I often saved some homework for mornings, since I would be sitting in the cafeteria for an hour waiting for it to be time to go to class. I know that probably isn't a good way of doing things, but I did fine in school and things got done on time so I don't guess I see a problem. ^_^ x3 |
My teacher once joked that it doesn't matter how long her deadline is, we'd start doing it on the day before the submission anyway.

Knowing this, schools could really extend how much their teachers actually teach instead of just do nothing all the time. So much more could get done if long projects were compressed down in terms of time. |
Bigger and important projects are things I usually start doing early so I have enough time for the whole thing
Smaller things like learning for exams is most being started one week before And anything else... Due tomorrow? Do tomorrow. |
Oops, I guess I procrastinate too much. P: |
I would leave bigger projects until maybe like two or three days before they were due - and then panic slightly as I scrambled to work on them. There were several times that I left essays until the morning of the day they were due. Yeah that was fun, trying to think of words as fast as possible and write as fast as possible before I had to do things like oh go catch the bus or something.
(And sadly, since I still did decently even on things like those, I never really learned my lesson regarding time management. :( I still procrastinated if I thought I had even a small chance of getting away with it!) |
Procrastination is how i roll. It's kind of become a style to chill out till until there is like 6 hours left until the deadline of whatever it is you are doing. I am just so cool like that.
I have always wanted to improve this habit but i also want to not be doing work everyday gah i wonder what will happen when i start work in a office p.s this post is bleeding with sarcasm in case you don't see it |
Right so, I'm popping in to say I read the thread title as "How Much Prostitution Is Too Much?"
Just thought I'd share. And to answer. None. It is perfectly normal and should be encouraged. :D |
Meh, I'll tell you later. *Ba-dum CRASH!*
|
Procrastination is what helped me not accelerate well in high school. I was always late to doing assignments, sometimes going past the due date and taking grade cuts. If there was a habit I could break, it would definitely be procrastination.
I made a resolution earlier in the year to break procrastination, but it's still somewhat lingering in me. At least I'm turning my assignments in on time in college, but I still feel that I could be doing better with timing as well, instead of finishing them on due date. |
It's never too much. NEVER, I SAY!
Don't actually take my advice. |
As a programmer I've learnt over the years to do the assignments as early as I can. Unlike other normal papers and projects which you can just be done with, programming projects and assignments require for them to work, which you can't be sure of until it runs properly.
I'll still probably procrastinate on my latest project, though... I have no clue how to figure it out. |
I'll just say that I ended up growing out of procrastination during the first semester of Freshman year at high school.
It's just like magic, I tried not procrastinating for a week, and then I somehow just stopped altogether after that. I've realized that I get to do a lot more of what I want to do (programming) when all of my school assignments are finished. I suggest you give it a try -- it just might work! |
I wanted to post something... meh, I'll do it later.
|
^ I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THAT! I CALLED IT.
|
Gah I missed my chance for the joke, like twice over.
Honestly procrastination is just completely acceptable and is natural because it's human nature, it's the natural way of responding to things, when you procrastinate, you think about it and it moves unimportant thoughts aside to help you focus on more important tasks and saves energy until you are at your peak of focus and energy, this usually happens right before deadlines because there is an elevated level of stress and as a result your body will respond by stopping procrastination and doing work. Science. Spoiler:
