Ditto are failed clones of Mew?

When you think about it, there is a lot of evidence that can prove this theory.
1. Ditto and Mew are the only Pokemon that can learn Transform.
2. They both have very similar colour palettes
3. The shiny versions of Ditto and Mew are the same colour
4. In the Pokemon Mansion, where scientists supposedly researched Mew, and Mewtwo was created, you encounter Ditto
5. They both weigh the same.
6. Ditto appear to be man-made.
7. Mew is said to have the DNA of every single Pokemon, while Ditto can breed with almost every Pokemon, excluding legendaries.
8.Both Pokemon have base stats that are the same in every category, Mew having 100 base in each stat and Ditto having 48 in each stat.

What do you think?

I really like this theory! I've seen it before. I don't think it's meant to be this way, officially, but it's a fun thought, since they are similar in so many ways.

So Ditto would be the failed attempts to make Mewtwo. Or maybe they first wanted to make a clone identical to the ancient Mew, and ended up with Ditto. And then after numerous failed attempts they realized that they needed something more (in the manga it's human DNA) to make a stable clone -> Mewtwo.

That would mean that Ditto didn't exist before the events preluding the Kanto games though.

My thinking too. Only Pokémon besides Mew who can transform into other Pokémon.

It definitely sounds like it makes sense x) Mew having the DNA of all Pokemon, and Ditto sharing Mew's ability to transform into any Pokemon sure has the sounds of Ditto being something of Mew's. I think that the Ditto are failed Mewtwo, at least in my opinion.

"Capable of copying an enemy's genetic code to instantly transform itself into a duplicate of the enemy." - Red Pokedex Entry for Ditto.

Unlike Ditto, Mew's Pokedex entries say nothing about its transformation ability. I agree with Tao, with there being only 1 Ditto, and it splitting apart, cell division.

Interesting theory, nonetheless.

I've always agreed with this theory. You said a lot of the evidence that can confirm this. Obviously, if something can transform, and is just a blob like that, it can definitely do Mitosis, which is the splitting of cells to make an identical child. So, that definitely makes sense. Everything adds up. However, I do like the idea, that it could have been the direct descendant of Mew. It's really ahrd to tell, especially since Gamefreak never did confirm this.

But, the theory that you have definitely makes sense.
