Oh I gave that to someone

How do you feel when people give someone something without speaking to you first ?

This happens quite a lot to me. I find this really annoying as I might go back to my old stuff on a later date. This happened yesterday.. My dad decided that would give my old laptop away to my sister without speaking to me first. I was saving that old laptop for my daughter as her first computer.

Anyway what about you guys ?

I let one of my friends borrow about 20 of my gamecube games and then he took those, sold half of them, and then gave the other half to his uncle who lives in Georgia. Needless to say I was quite upset with him.

I get a liiiiittle annoyed, but only because I'm really possessive of my... possessions. My mom only ever gives away things that I literally haven't used or thought about in years. So the moment I realize I'm getting annoyed over the fact that she's giving away old VHS tapes or something, I realize how dumb that is and get over it quickly.

If it were something important, my parents will always ask if I'm okay with it.

Raine April 22nd, 2014 7:09 PM

That has never happened to me because people rarely ask to borrow anything of mine. Though on the off chance that I do lend something out, nobody has ever re-lent it to someone else without asking my permission nor do they even think about that idea \: My friends are generally respectful of the stuff they borrow from me, though I hate when people take things without asking me before hand. My sister, for instance, would often take a couple pieces of clothing from my closet without bothering to tell me, and that irritated me beyond belief >>;; Thankfully she doesn't do it anymore because our styles differ, and my clothes are generally too small for her :3

I hate that. My mother sold my GameBoy Advance when I was younger because I asked for a DS. I wasn't very sad initially, but now I have many unplayable big giant game cards (like the original Kirby game... and many others) because I cannot play those on DS. And now DS is outdated :(

I've had that happened to me a couple times, when I suddenly find some of my items missing D: I used to have a human-sized Charmander plush that mysteriously disappeared while we were moving, and I still to this day have no idea where it went; I'm thinking my mom threw it out or something...And then there were the PS games that my sister sold without considering that one day when I grew up, I'd want to play them so now I have to buy them back myself on eBay ;-;

My parents did that with a lot of stuff when I moved out. I'm okay with most of it, they kept my books and stuffed animals and things like that, but my car for example, was sadly sold.

They also released my pet turtle once when I went on vacation. I'm still mad about that 4 years later.

Sweetie I think you'll find that by the time your daughter is old enough to understand how to use a computer or have one of her own, it'll be so old that she wouldn't want to use it anyway.

Maybe but would of still liked to given her a chose on it.

It really depends, if I label it something important I would get so pissed I would just punch a hole in the wall, if it's just one of those things, I just be like "oh well".

On one hand, I agree because they really do age fast.

On the other.. my niece was only 4 or 5 when she was "given" my sister's old desktop. It's from like 2005 or so. The thing still has a CRT monitor, but it gets her to watch Disney things on youtube, some basic games, and she can navigate it just fine. She's 7 now and still happily uses it. If that's all she'd be using it for, too, I don't see a problem with giving her an older one.
If she'd be using it for school and whatever at like 10+, then there may be an issue.

ANYWHO.
Regarding the thread. I think the only things I ever lost that were important to me were things I had to choose to throw out/abandon. Never things that other people gave away or threw out without my permission.
We had a giant storage locker for about 10 years when we moved because it was in a different state, so moving the stuff in an affordable way was a slow process. I kept my main pokemon card binders with me along with most of my plushes/figures and stuff.. But the rest of them were in storage and they got destroyed by water damage that the company refused to pay for. I managed to salvage a few, but they certainly 'show their age' now. :c

I think that's it, though. My parents are usually pretty respectful of my things, and my friends never really borrow anything.. Even last week, my mom was taking some bags of our old clothes and shoes that I had already purged from my closet down to the thrift store to donate, and she still asked me again before she left to make sure I didn't leave anything "valuable" in there. I had already decided I didn't want these things, and they still double-checked.

Poki April 23rd, 2014 12:27 PM

I don't let anyone use/take my stuff, especially without my permission. But, if you do use/take it without asking, chances are I'll throw it at you, and tell you to shove it up your ass if you need it so much. :)
