Ask CYD Thread (v2.7)

Hello! So... this thread was dated May 5th, 2014 (07:34 PM), it being nearly a year old now, wow times change guard fast.

So, like before. I... I can't do introductions well, since I either butcher them up or some other nonsense happens. Still, I am going to try again and you can ask me anything.

My name is Daniel, I am 21 years old and I go by multiple online names as 'CureYoshiDarkness', 'Nin★Yoshi'/'Nin★Pony', 'Mega_Rosalina' and much more. I am personally inspiring to be a game developer (sound, design, programming [anything really]) myself, and while it sounds like a long shot I want to work with Nintendo, a dream I've had since I was a little kid. I've also taken an enjoyment towards animation and love lionel trains as well (trains in general).

I tend to enjoy games that come packaged with an editor of some kind (map, scenario, ect) because I love to create and explore worlds that game developers create; however, there are other games that I enjoy as well, like Valkyria Chronicles, Ace Combat 4 & 5, Steambot Chronicles, nearly anything Nintendo, Team Fortress 2, anything RTS, Racing, Simulation and/or TBS. I just like to be creative I guess.

My hobbies including drawing manga, programming, cooking, repairing, computers, trains, breaking the worlds inside videos games. I also love horses, and visit ones common in my township. As you see, the love of horses is why I like the My Little Pony genre. And also, the animation and story writing for the show has been great so far in the four seasons it has aired. I am a fan of the show, and I just like it (plus, I sat and watched the G1, and G2 completely, must say... the writers of this gen are really using those gens for basis for the show). I also enjoy watching NHKWORLD, for my TV. All those shows from Japan are amazing, the nature ones and J-Mello.

Now, I don't know what to say here but please ask me questions. Anything really.

Who is your favorite pony, out of the Mane Six?

Also, if you were to be hired by Nintendo, what series of games would you like to be a part of? Mario? Wario? Donkey Kong? Other various games?

Ahh, I am questioned this more commonly on skype actually. It is funny, because it is tied in-truth and when I am writing or working on a fan-fiction, I question myself on who would play a more major or key role in the storyline? Either way, my favorite pony of the Mane6 is Twilight Sparkle, but it is also tied with Rainbow Dash as well. My reasoning is that both characters I could actually relate with in a way or more. Plus; when I am asked to write or I am doing an 'anthro-pony' fiction, like the current one I am doing, there are currently spin-offs and/or otherworldly variants of the main characters known as Cybernetics (secretly hinted in my profile title ^_^).

Oh, I would try to help or be in the development of anything Nintendo would have to offer. I'd love to work and be part of the development of the Mario series (more so the Party, and Kart series), the Pokemon series, and/or the Kirby or Pikmin series. In my mindset, I think Nintendo and their developers should try to relight that passion in gamers for their love of nostalgia. In today's time, many many people both young and old seem to enjoy and look into shows, games, books that give them an image of a passed era.

Two good examples are a video game and a tv show (cartoon); On May 30th, Mario Kart 8 will be released and many of its elements from characters, race-tracks, and battle mode, are all remade from previous variants in the series. For example, Toad's Turnpike, N64 Rainbow Road, Royal Raceway, and even Yoshi Valley! The Random maze track from the N64 is back. What I completely dislike about people sometimes is people claim Nintendo is trying to save a dying console. Who cares! Who cares if this game does or does not save the WiiU!? Its awesome, a good progress of work, execution, and design.

The second example is My Little Pony's fourth generation, actually. The voice actors, the story-writers, the artists, almost everyone in the Studio B crew on the show are people from shows and animations who were in my childhood, that feeling of familiarity is so strong when I watch the show and I love it, it makes me happy inside to actually feel comfortable and not over-worried or stressed because of how people would think of me watching a child's show. One of the biggest and confusing things about My Little Pony is that people claim, and say, and complain that the show 'Is Made For Little Girls', well there is scattered facts about this.

1) The original creator of My Little Pony's G1 said the show was made for both young boys and girls and their families to enjoy together.

2) The concept and ideal that it is for 'little girls' is due to Hasbro actually, for the toys and most of the mercantile is (in fact) made for young girls; however, thanks to this generation there is a lot of stuff being made for everyone to enjoy and have.

3) And the final rule is people will just hate because they can; it is a sad fact to think and go through. However; in my eyes, I forgive and move on.

-- Thanks for the questions, Murkmire. I am happy to answer them.

I am really curious as to where your username comes from.

ANARCHit3cht February 24th, 2015 11:24 AM

Do you think Yoshi Darkness is so really serious that we need to "cure" it? Or would mere treatments suffice?

Also, you said your a hobby of yours is cooking, how good of a chef would you rate yourself as? What are some of the favorite dishes you've made, or perhaps want to make?

Its somewhat of a long story, but I'll shorten it. When I was only seven years old, this was when I was starting to get into manga drawing. Right to left and I made mini books out of marble-cover notepads. One of my stories was of an anthromorphic Yoshi male named Stahl living on one of the southern islands (south of Yoshi Island), til one day he encountered a pretty purple Yoshi girl who seemed to be tired and exhausted. Knowing he was the only one on the island, he felt curious and worried about the young woman and helped her, allowing her to stay at his hut. The story takes off from there, eventually one evening, strange soldiers (koopas) arrive on the island looking for girl and seek her essence for their boss's goal. This is where Stahl tried to fool the soldiers and get them to leave, only to be attacked and wounded, this triggered something inside of his female friend, which turned her scales black and a dark aura covered her. The enraged woman destroyed every soldier, til they were dry bones and shells. I don't know what it was, but this character always stuck out to me. She was trying to escape from a reality of being an experiment, but using her own strengths and power, she was able to protect someone she bonded with.

The username now, comes from her and that story. 'Yoshi' being my favorite Mario character/species, how the girl was looking for a 'Cure' for her 'Darkness'. In the end, she does find a way to cure her darkness, and that was through the bonds she forged with many on her road after meeting Stahl.

It seems Yoshi Darkness was only a one-time case. Maybe the cure is out there, how knows...there might be more needing a cure.

I'd rate myself at 6-7 out of 10, I'm not perfect and still love to learn. Some of my favorite dishes are inside-out pizza, pancakes, eggs, and funnel cake.

Pray tell, what is an inside out pizza and how do I go about making this? It sounds.. well, delicious.

Not sure if I already asked you this before during our Skype conversation, but if you were a pony, who would you go by and what would your cutie mark look like?

Kura February 24th, 2015 2:56 PM

You say you like drawing manga.. have any of your drawings anywhere online we can see?

Do you also like reading manga? What's your favourite one? :3

That is a pizza turnover or inside outside pizza. Its simple to make like a normal pizza, but instead you take half of your dough (after you put in your sauce and cheese (and other toppings), fold it in half and bake. It naturally should be fine unless you overbake it, then it'll get hard on the outside, but the inside should remain fine.

Explain a little bit more as in 'who would you go by'? Like morals, concept, or design? If I was a pona from the show, it would be someone along the lines of an engineer who works on trains, a pegasus. My CM being a steam locomotive (a 2-4-2 mostly) with two wrenches behind it.

I don't have any pages uploaded (scanner broke), but I do have some artwork (old but still good).

Another thing is what mangas do I have; ehhh... so many I can't count. I love to read so naturally these are good pickups for me. I have two next to make right now, Mao-Chan (Vol.1), and Rurouni Kenshin (3in1). My favorite though at the moment is the Girl & Panzer books (I have the first one). (http://www.mangahere.co/manga/girls_panzer/c001/) Here is the first chapter. :)

By "who would you go by," I meant what would your pony name be.

J-Mello's showing of various pop, rock, and other J-music mostly. Its nice and beautiful to hear it and it relaxes me. In all honestly, watching NHKWorld's nature shows, just a helicopter with a camera panning over Japan is so calming for me.

In all honestly, I have no exact favorite area on PC, I rather enjoy reading all areas. But in a majority, its the Pokemon Gaming, ROM Hacking, Creative Discussions and Entertainment & Hobbies.

Favorite higher staff members, I always have good respect for all staff, higher or not. I have enjoyed talking with Sheep when discussion comes up and I personally think you are a good discussion talker. :)

I stumbled upon the Ace Combat saga when I picked up a little game known as Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere for the Playstation (but PS2 playable), and played that game on the PS2 for a while, then I started branching out and got 4: Shattered Skies, 5: The Unsung War, and finally Zero: The Belkan War from a place called Play & Trade (sadly, they are gone now) which sold them to be, brand new and unopened from 30$ total. The condition of all discs are amazing and as a result, I make sure they are kept well preserved since the games are hard to come by nowadays.

I was curious of the new Nintendo 3DS Ace Combat; its called Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy + and I know the title has 'Assault Horizon' in it, but its not like that at all. It actually takes place in Strangereal again and features a new story there! From reviews, the game works quite well with the 3DS and is well liked in Japan. Here's the plot if you wanted to know too.

Spoiler:
Three years after the Belkan War, the Osean Federation and the Union of Yuktobanian Republics continued to establish themselves as the greatest superpowers in the world. The northern and western nations of the Usean Continent decided to put aside their long-lasting mutual differences and band together to prevent either of the superpowers from obtaining Usean land. However, the southern nations opposed this and wished to join the Osean Federation, who extended a military pact to the leaders of those southern nations.

On the day of the treaty's signing, conservative extremists (likely originating from, but not backed by, the northern and western Usean countries) launched a coup d'état across the entire continent, fearing the presence of the Osean military and the loss of their mining rights. The Usean Allied Forces underestimated the rebels' power, and were soon forced to retreat. It was soon believed that the Rebel Forces would take over the governments of the continent.

As a last-ditch effort, Allied Forces HQ initiated Operation Fighter's Honor, in which they contracted the Scarface Squadron to assist in and spearhead an assault to tip the war back in the Allied Forces' favor. The player controls Scarface One through multiple battles across the continent.

Hey Yoshi, In your first post you say you are interested in both horses and trains, two of my favourite interests hobbies soooo some questions?

With your intrest in horses are you a horse rider? If you are what style European, Western, Jumping, Dressage etc? Do you have a favourite horse breed?

What is your favourite train, railway era and railways of which nation?

Circuit April 18th, 2015 9:12 AM

Yoshi! Hey there :)

If I was to give you $1000 right now, what would you do with it?

If you want to go into developing video games, what would you say your graphic art skill is like right now?

I wish I was a horse rider, I know all about it but never had the chance to ride a horse myself. Into styles, I vary. Out of Euro or West, I lean towards the European style of riding and showmanship. Personally my favorite horse breed is the Scottish Clydesdale, they are just so majestic and they tend to be a very tame breed. If the situation would arise, I would own a Clydesdale and as strange as it sounds focus him/her for show. Grooming and putting good care into him/her to impress judges.

Now switching gears, trains. Oh my god, just like horses, I love trains. Lionel Trains to be exact and I have had a few in my life time too, mostly display but still. Another dream is to make a large-scale layout and allow others to see this said layout. But onto my favorite train? My favorite train of all time is the mighty diesel locomotive, directly the GE Evolution Series. I don't know what it is, its just these trains stand out to me. They are iconic and very remember-able to me.

Sadly, if I was given 1000$ right now, I would try to help my mother pay the land taxes which are actually 900-1000$ a quarter. Insane price? Yes. Kind and respectful choice of action? . . .YES. I don't want her to lost her home. :(

My graphic art skills are not bad at all, just out of practice since I don't' have my scanner working anymore it seems and that I haven't been able to do much. Over all, I still draw freehand and its something I tend to do enjoy a lot. Completely. :)

Ah the Clydesdale a good choice. I used to holiday in the lake district a lot and always whet riding at trekking centre where they used just heavy horses and rode a Clydesdale and Clydesdale x Shire.
One of the horses I used to ride at home was a Clydesdale x Cob but he died 18 months ago.
Clydesdale showing is pretty popular, they even do a few ridden classes.

I have the tiniest layout at home but I would like to build a massive one to. I don't know much about American trains but I remember loving those big Dash 9s on Train simulator xD

I think it draws back to them being fairly tame and able to handle themselves well actually.

Those Big Dash 9s, oohhhh... they are great engines. Powerful ones too. Speaking of trains now. Enjoy.
