Wallace's suit definitely fits right in with the other artistic gym leader's we've seen...Fatima, and Burgh. Out of the three I like better Fatima's design...

Technically everything and in the other hand nothing. I just personally doesn't like her outfit to look like that because she should look more regal in a way and not too old fashioned. Give her something new, spice the design by giving some print to her clothes or something small that wouldn't make her look like an old spinster.

Though that is just my opinion. :P

Yeah, I agree and I like how they took a risk to change him so drastically compared to previous designs. Before he looked more of a Champion and not really a person who's passion is beauty and coordinating (I don't remember what that competition thing was called and I'm too lazy to check up on it atm).

BTW as off-topic but didn't Wallace had some kind of relationship with Winona in manga? Just been pissed off how people comment her looking gay and ****** in the new design while I'm sure it was stated somewhere he had a romantic relationship with one of the Gym Leaders. Or then it was Steven.

Hiatus November 4th, 2014 6:21 PM

I'm not such a huge follower of manga, so I wouldn't precisely, but it would certainly be interesting if they'd decided to made their relationship to be displayed in-game, as we've never had Gym Leaders showing love for each other in Pokémon games. Though, chances of it actually happening is sort of unlikely, considering that they're attempting to keep Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire as close to RSE as possible.

There was some between Norman and the mom...but it's not much. I wouldn't be too surprised though if they hinted at Winona-Wallace though considering FrLg took Silver being Giovanni's son (which was first in the manga before the games) and hinted at it, with HgSs making it canon.

Cerberus87 November 4th, 2014 10:05 PM

Manga =/= games. Lance, for example, is evil in the manga, yet he's a hero in the games.

Game canon is game canon. Winona never had any feelings for anyone in RSE.

To Be Honest, I like Wallace's New Design!

WHY NO JUAN?!?!?!? ;--;

Because they are following the original Ruby & Sapphire and not Emerald. It's also why Team Magma is battled in Omega Ruby while Team Aqua is battled in Alpha Sapphire. In Emerald both teams were battled at once, and that's not the case with these remakes.

Also, Steven is Champion so that's why Wallace is 8th Gym, because it was that way in Ruby & Sapphire and not Emerald.

Cerberus87 November 5th, 2014 3:27 PM

Juan wasn't anything special, really. His main was Kingdra, which copies Clair. He also has a friggin Luvdisc.

He could still be in the games (haven't looked at the trainer leaks), but IMO it's unlikely.

Personally I think this was one of the "mistakes" of Emerald compared to RS. What was wrong with keeping Wallace as gym leader and Steven as Champion? The way it ended up being, you had an uninteresting replacement as Sootopolis gym leader (with an annoying Pokémon to boot: Kingdra with Double Team), another Water-type specialist as Champion (making things repetitive), and Steven in a Red-style postgame battle, whom you could only battle once, unlike Red.

Hiatus November 5th, 2014 6:52 PM

I know I've mentioned this a few times before, but I believe it'd be best if they had included them both in-game.

One idea of mine is perhaps they could make Juan and Wallace version-exclusive, similar to how things were with Iris and Drayden (spelling?) in Black and White; Juan could be available as Sootopolis Gym Leader in Alpha Sapphire, and Wallace could appear with the same position in Omega Ruby (or vice-versa; anything could work, I suppose!).

Another plan is to somehow incorporate these two guys in both games, and have us choose which leader we'd like to face-off against, sort of like how it were with Cilan, Cress, and Chili.

While it would have been a nice concept, it seems likely the version-exclusive Gym Leaders thing might have been just exclusive to Black & White, given how said games' theme covers opposites. Also, with the Striation trio you were forced to battle the one who had an advantage over your starter i.e. Cilan if you pick Water, Cress if you pick Fire, and Chili if you pick Grass.

Juan would have been nice to see in OR/AS but again, they're sticking as close to the original Ruby & Sapphire as possible, and not Emerald. He didn't appear in R/S, only Emerald.

Roxanne ~ Looks kinda like her original except with a bit more swag, I like the new design!
Brawly ~ Miles better than his original, looks more of a fighting-type Gym Leader now.
Wattson ~ No major changes to his appearence, I like how they've maintained the originality.
Flanney ~ Hot.
Norman ~ Again, not much different to his original which was already pretty decent.
Winona ~ Stunning. She looks so elegant!
Tate & Liza ~ I actually prefer their newer design as opposed to their originals, idk they just seem like they have more personality now and easier to identify who is who.
Wallace ~ ... Er-Okay.

Well Johto had a Dragon type 8th gym and a Dragon type champion too, and B2W2 would've too but they made Drayden the 7th instead of the 8th gym leader for those games.

I wonder if the reason they had Wallace be the champion is to connect it with the stone, as Emerald is one variant of Beryl, and so is Aquamarine (interestingly Ruby and Sapphire have a lot of metal minerals in them which fits Steven's Steel Type). Or more likely it was a homage to how GSC had a different champion than RGBY did. In a strange way Emerald was like an alternate universe compared to Ruby and Sapphire in that regard (opposed to a Sequel like GSC were to RGB, and B2W2 were to BW) as had different champions yet tell the same events at the same point in the time line (sort of like BB2 versus WW2 as both were canon yet had some different locations and events compared to other paired versions).

Johto had a Fighting-type gym leader and a Fighting-type E4 as well. It annoys me a bit that Juan has the same ace as Clair, but then again they repeated aces for other people (Giovanni and Bertha have Rhyperior). Falkner and Blue have the same ace, too, but I don't like to count Pidgeot as Blue's ace because he doesn't have a specialty. Plus, in B2W2 Blue drops Pidgeot for Aerodactyl.

Now Opinions about Teams..

Roxanne
Spoiler:

Geodude (Lv. 12) (Moves: Tackle/Defense Curl/Rock Tomb/―――――)
Nosepass (Lv. 14) (Moves: Tackle/Harden/Rock Tomb/―――――)

.. it would've been more acceptable for two rosters if Nosepass is lv15..

Brawly
Spoiler:

Machop (Lv. 14) (Moves: Leer/Karate Chop/Seismic Toss/Bulk Up)
Makuhita (Lv. 16) (Moves: Arm Thrust/Knock Off/Sand Attack/Bulk Up)

I don't think it was necessary for making them weaker..

Wattson
Spoiler:

Magnemite (Lv. 19) (Moves: Thunder Wave/Tackle/Volt Switch/―――――)
Voltorb (Lv. 19) (Moves: Rollout/Charge/Volt Switch/―――――)
Magneton (Lv. 21) (Moves: Supersonic/Magnet Bomb/Volt Switch/―――――)

Due to volt switch they would have made levels less.. but add manectric it would be more suitable..

Flannery
Spoiler:

Slugma (Lv. 26) (Moves: Overheat/Rock Throw/Light Screen/Sunny Day)
Numel (Lv. 26) (Moves: Earth Power/Lava Plume/Amnesia/Sunny Day)
Torkoal (Lv. 28) (Moves: Overheat/Body Slam/Curse/Sunny Day)

Better than RS..

Norman
Spoiler:

Slaking (Lv. 28) (Moves: Encore/Retaliate/Yawn/Feint Attack)
Vigoroth (Lv. 28) (Moves: Fury Swipes/Feint Attack/Retaliate/Encore)
Slaking (Lv. 30) (Moves: Chip Away/Swagger/Retaliate/Feint Attack)

Again replace the first Slaking with Linoone a better choice that it's.. I don't mind it like this anyway they kept it the same for Nostalgia I suppose..

Winnona
Spoiler:

Swellow (Lv. 33) (Moves: Quick Attack/Aerial Ace/Double Team/Endeavor)
Pelipper (Lv. 33) (Moves: Water Pulse/Roost/Protect/Aerial Ace)
Skarmory (Lv. 33) (Moves: Sand Attack/Air Cutter/Steel Wing/Aerial Ace)
Altaria (Lv. 35) (Moves: Earthquake/Dragon Breath/Cotton Guard/Roost)

Same as RS for nostalgia again..she also seems difficult likewise..

Tate and Liza
Spoiler:

Lunatone (Lv. 45) (Moves: Light Screen/Psychic/Hypnosis/Calm Mind) IVs: All 30
Solrock (Lv. 45) (Moves: Sunny Day/Rock Slide/Psychic/Solar Beam)
I would imagine harder than RS but not as Emerald..

Wallace
Spoiler:

Luvdisc (Lv. 44) (Ability: Swift Swim) (Moves: Water Pulse/Attract/Sweet Kiss/Draining Kiss)
Whiscash (Lv. 44) (Ability: Oblivious) (Moves: Mud Sport/Waterfall/Zen Headbutt/Earthquake)
Sealeo (Lv. 44) (Ability: Thick Fat) (Moves: Encore/Body Slam/Aurora Beam/Waterfall)
Seaking (Lv. 44) (Ability: Swift Swim) (Moves: Aqua Ring/Rain Dance/Waterfall/Horn Drill)
Milotic (Lv. 46) (Ability: Marvel Scale) (Moves: Hydro Pump/Disarming Voice/Recover/Ice Beam)

Same Team and higher levels.. though again his artwork -_-'...

It's good also for adding his emerald team he's no champion so levels doesn't matter much..

Wailord (Lv. 55) (Ability: Oblivious) (Moves: Water Spout/Heavy Slam/Earthquake/Blizzard)
Tentacruel (Lv. 55) (Ability: Clear Body) (Moves: Sludge Wave/Brine/Rain Dance/Dazzling Gleam)
Ludicolo (Lv. 55) (Ability: Swift Swim) (Moves: Fake Out/Scald/Energy Ball/Ice Beam)
Whiscash (Lv. 55) (Ability: Oblivious) (Moves: Earthquake/Muddy Water/Rock Tomb/Rain Dance)
Gyarados (Lv. 55) (Ability: Intimidate) (Moves: Waterfall/Crunch/Ice Fang/Stone Edge) IVs:
Milotic (Lv. 57) (Ability: Marvel Scale) (Moves: Dragon Pulse/Blizzard/Recover/Hydro Pump)

Sidney
Spoiler:

Mightyena (Lv. 50) (Ability: Intimidate) (Moves: Swagger/Take Down/Sucker Punch/Crunch)
Shiftry (Lv. 50) (Ability: Chlorophyll) (Moves: Fake Out/Feint Attack/Extrasensory/Leaf Blade)
Cacturne (Lv. 50) (Ability: Sand Veil) (Moves: Leech Seed/Payback/Needle Arm/Spiky Shield)
Sharpedo (Lv. 50) (Ability: Rough Skin) (Moves: Crunch/Poison Fang/Aqua Jet/Slash)
Absol (Lv. 52) (Ability: Super Luck) (Moves: Aerial Ace/Night Slash/Psycho Cut/Slash)
Obviously better than RS due to the new moves instead of the lame old ones that's also not dark type..

Phoebe
Spoiler:

Dusclops (Lv. 51) (Ability: Pressure) (Moves: Shadow Punch/Confuse Ray/Curse/Future Sight)
Banette (Lv. 51) (Ability: Insomnia) (Moves: Shadow Ball/Spite/Will-O-Wisp/Feint Attack)
Sableye (Lv. 51) (Ability: Prankster) (Moves: Shadow Claw/Foul Play/Power Gem/Fake Out)
Banette (Lv. 51) (Ability: Insomnia) (Moves: Shadow Ball/Grudge/Toxic/Psychic)
Dusknoir (Lv. 53) (Ability: Pressure) (Moves: Hex/Fire Punch/Ice Punch/Thunder Punch)

Some sort breaking the pattern.. Dusknoir is from sinnoh dex.. or probably they added it to the new hoenn dex then.. but a better team that it's...

Glacia
Spoiler:

Glalie (Lv. 52) (Ability: Inner Focus) (Moves: Light Screen/Ice Shard/Hail/Crunch)
Froslass (Lv. 52) (Ability: Snow Cloak) (Moves: Confuse Ray/Blizzard/Hail/Ominous Wind)
Glalie (Lv. 52) (Ability: Inner Focus) (Moves: Protect/Ice Shard/Hail/Freeze-Dry)
Froslass (Lv. 52) (Ability: Snow Cloak) (Moves: Draining Kiss/Blizzard/Hail/Shadow Ball)
Walrein (Lv. 54) (Ability: Thick Fat) (Moves: Surf/Body Slam/Blizzard/Sheer Cold)

The only thing Fire types concerns about is Walrein.. now if they've added psychic to Froslass it would countermeasure blaziken..

Drake
Spoiler:

Altaria (Lv. 53) (Ability: Natural Cure) (Moves: Aerial Ace/Cotton Guard/Dragon Pulse/Moonblast)
Flygon (Lv. 53) (Ability: Levitate) (Moves: Earthquake/Dragon Claw/Rock Slide/Supersonic)
Kingdra (Lv. 53) (Ability: Sniper) (Moves: Dragon Pulse/Surf/Yawn/Ice Beam)
Flygon (Lv. 53) (Ability: Levitate) (Moves: Flamethrower/Boomburst/Dragon Pulse/Screech)
Salamence (Lv. 55) (Ability: Intimidate) (Moves: Dragon Rush/Zen Headbutt/Crunch/Thunder Fang)

I think more Difficult.. adding Kingdra was the right choice.. I'll pass for rematch teams..

Steven
Spoiler:

Skarmory (Lv. 57) (Ability: Sturdy) (Moves: Toxic/Aerial Ace/Spikes/Steel Wing)
Claydol (Lv. 57) (Ability: Levitate) (Moves: Reflect/Light Screen/Extrasensory/Earth Power)
Aggron (Lv. 57) (Ability: Sturdy) (Moves: Stone Edge/Earthquake/Iron Tail/Dragon Claw)
Cradily (Lv. 57) (Ability: Suction Cups) (Moves: Giga Drain/Ancient Power/Sludge Bomb/Confuse Ray)
Armaldo (Lv. 57) (Ability: Battle Armor) (Moves: X-Scissor/Rock Blast/Metal Claw/Crush Claw)
Metagross (Lv. 59) @Metagrossite (Ability: Clear Body) (Moves: Bullet Punch/Zen Headbutt/Meteor Mash/Giga Impact)

Yes better than the original.. adding megametagtross which will probably make him more challenging..

Hikamaru November 10th, 2014 9:19 AM

Given Steven has his lead, Skarmory with the Sturdy ability and two entry hazard moves it means we could likely see him setting up Spikes or Toxic Spikes to hurt you as you switch in, since Sturdy makes the user survive a hit that would have OHKO'd it. It's a quite threatening approach if I have to say so myself.

Winona's Swellow still has the dreaded Endeavor + Quick Attack combo while Wallace's Seaking carries the nasty Horn Drill. Also worth noting in terms of deadly sets are Norman's entire team carrying Retaliate (I know how many playing B/W feared Lenora because of that move) and Steven's Aggron has an impressive set as well, pretty much near-perfect coverage.

Given how more stronger their movesets got I can imagine how hard this game will be for Nuzlockers.
