I actually cannot imagine this: what if instead of a Xatu, it'll be a Grumpig or Chimecho. One knows reflect + light screen, the other knows trick room. Both with calm mind.

Man, it could be TERRIBLY nasty, and perfect for possibly a rematch.

That would be awesome. I'm surprised Game Freak hasn't come up with these kind of ideas because this is a perfect way to make Gym Leaders much stronger. And with Focus Blast/Ice Beam and Shadow Ball they could practically cover every single Pokémon type and even more! In Emerald, they do get Pokémon from all regions for rebattles, so I can just imagine the potential of these two combined with stronger stuff like Reinclus and Sigilyph.

A reinculus with trick room is one hell of a killing machine.

As for the other leaders, I hope they get some changes as well. The last gym could have a Gyarados (WTR/FLY), Tentacruel (WTR/PSN), or even a Kingdra in addition to Milotic and Whiscash. Milotic is the star of course, but other add ons could be great.

I think strategies like this that are inspired by competitive play are the way to go for the gyms. As Milotic is the star, it could set up a good defence and inflict stuff like Toxic on our Pokémon and do Rain Dance as well. Gyarados and Kingdra could make good use of it, and so can all Pokémon with Swift Swim. Kingdra has this annoying habit of using Double Team and then Dragon Dance to finish off with Hydro Pump or Dragonbreath. Imagine that boosted with rain, and Dragon Pulse instead of Dragonbreath! It would be really hard to just scrape by the gym.

Kingdra could also use smokescreen, which is also pretty annoying.
Milotic with mirror coat. Yum.

Actually, GF could add in some sort of puzzle to reach the Elite Four member. Sidney can have a maze in some sort of dungeon, Phoebe's room can be similar to one in the Ecruteak Gym, Glacia an ice puzzle and Drake... No idea. Haha.

Gyms have puzzles, they could certainly do it with the E4 as well.

blue May 12th, 2014 5:15 AM

Oh yeah, Tate and Liza two additional Pokemon in Emerald. Hope they decide to use their Emerald team, Lunatone and Solrock alone are challenging but it's more fun with more Pokemon ofc.

Elite Four puzzles may not be so far-fetched either. They wouldn't probably add trainers to it but Sidney could have this annoying maze where if you step through the wrong path you get locked there and you teleport back to the start. Glacia could obviously have a tedious ice-skate puzzle, Phoebe like you said could have this light-and-dark puzzle, maybe drake could have a fall-down dungeon where you have to fall through the right holes. The Champion, well... he doesn't really need one XD

This may also slow down grinding by rebattling the Elite Four postgame.

Atwilko May 12th, 2014 5:25 AM

i dunno, the only one i'd want to get replaced is the 5th gym but i always found hoenn to have among the hardest of gym's in the series (i always start treecko) so i'd like them to keep it like that.

Rayquaza2016 May 12th, 2014 5:40 AM

Get Glacia a better team and get Steven to be the champion. >:)

Pepperton May 22nd, 2014 3:49 PM

The Elite Four isn't about solving puzzles. Their Pokemon are supposed to be extremely powerful and difficult enough to defeat so as not to merit an extra challenge like a maze. Gyms are still no piece of cake, but I think it's better to keep the best four trainers in the league in simple rooms that display their type specialty.

How about updating the room a little bit, make the room arenas in the air and taking an elevator while progressing further? Maybe add some facades and decorations around the room like they did in XY?

Honestly, I find that the current Elite Four rooms are just plain boring. That could also be because the recent Elite Fours are just really weak...

I actually struggled with the Hoenn league when I first played Ruby. Let's hope they won't make them easier.

praj.pran May 23rd, 2014 4:51 AM

I think Gym leader and Elite members will be same actually i never played ruby or saphire i start playing pokemon from Black and white but i Hope its Same

Salamence™ May 23rd, 2014 10:08 AM

All the old ones from pokemon ruby and sapphire. And i also think it would be Them. Because in hgss it was the same gym leaders as gs

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 29th, 2014 12:10 PM

They could make Drake more difficult by giving his Shellgon Evolite, as well as the moves protect and Toxic. Shellgon already has good defenses, so evolite will increase them greatly. Protect is to wear us out. Even with the introduction of more protect breaking moves all of them happen to be physical, so it's defense stat will be annoying. We'll have to wait until protect to no longer work to take it down. I guess the Fairy type will make it easier since Shellgon doesn't have the best special defense stat. Though if it keeps Dragon Breath it could paralyze us...and use something like Iron Tail to lower our defenses (and to take care of Fairy types).

Pepperton May 29th, 2014 8:50 PM

They'd probably do that in a Challenge Mode type situation, but not for the regular mode. There's a huge range of skill from people playing Pokemon; complete beginners to seasoned competitive veterans. Fighting Pokemon with held items, set-up move sets, and strategies may be too much for the average gamer to overcome, causing enjoyment to plummet. If they do change the difficulty of the gym leaders and elite four to that extreme, hopefully it's an optional change.

I actually remember I had to evolve my Torchic just to get past Roxanne haha x3 Good times...

I hope GF wont pull too many punches like they did in XY. It really isnt a challenge anymore tbh.

SuperJanBro June 3rd, 2014 10:46 AM

I kinda want Sydney to be replaced. Tbh, he wasn't that memorable at all. They should try to bring them out more... But that's just me.

Pepperton June 3rd, 2014 12:08 PM

If one of them must be replaced, I would choose Glacia. Looks like a generic middle aged woman with a simple team of Ice type Pokemon. Her design is forgettable and there's nothing special about the concept behind her. If anyone, she deserves the boot. d: I loved Sydney's hairdo, and at least he actually looked like a Dark type specialist.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 3rd, 2014 12:47 PM

I think Glacia was a pun take on the Ice Princess figure. Instead of being actually cold in personality she used Ice Pokemon...haha...

I hope that they add backstory to the gym leaders. Also I want them to appear outside of their gyms more. Brawly could be seen surfing at certain times of day. Maybe mention he knows this guy who wrestles in Sinnoh but is a water specialist. Roxanne could be seen teaching her students. Winona could get a story. Maybe they'll add in an airport in an open space, or in the outskirts of Fortree where she flies (post game maybe we'll see Skyla go meet Winona from there) a small biplane. Wattson could simply get an expanded New Mauville story. Norman could be a less distant father. Juan could be first met in the contest hall, or maybe Wallace (no matter if he's the champion or gym leader) as we don't see either of them except for during the crisis. Flannery could be seen attending the hotsprings.

Yeah I imagine the pain those who chose Torchic in the original games had to go through just to beat Roxanne and those bulky Rock-types of hers. Treecko and Mudkip users had a smoother run though.

But yeah I am hoping that Game Freak can do the balance of making it easy enough for newer players but still hard enough for older fans at the same time. The reason many complained about X and Y was the Exp. Share mechanics making their team overleveled once they like, almost reached the second gym, assuming they didn't rotate team members constantly.

I guess they were catering too much towards the younger, newer players when they changed the mechanics of the Exp. Share.

Altairis June 3rd, 2014 7:20 PM

I hope the Elite Four show up somewhere outside of Ever Grande City, especially because they are considered some of the strongest in the region and they barely do anything to help stop Teams Aqua & Magma.

I hope they aren't changed, though. I thought all the gym leaders & elite four were tough enough just as they were.

ShadowSlashz June 3rd, 2014 10:37 PM

Yeah I hope their not changed but maybe they could look different.

Yeah I agree, they should atleast be seen trying to stop Team Aqua and or Magma and not just sit on their thrones chillin while Hoenn gets destroyed and leaving its fate to a 10 year old who just started his/her journey. :/

Yeah. Sadly the E4 as a whole has a horrible track record of helping out...Let's see...Kanto's didn't help, nor did Johto's, Sinnoh didn't really help either but at least we saw two of them outside of the E4, Unova's didn't help...and a freaking building just jammed through their HQ! How come only Alder helped fight off Plasma?, Kalos's didn't help...heck one of them was on the evil team's side, and even then she didn't play a real role in the villianous team during the story...
In the end the E4 seem like a final line of defense should the Champion and everyone else falls...ironically Alder fell (but that was in a fair battle).
