How old were you

How old where you when you first played, when you first heard the announcements of the originals which version did you play?

I was 18 yo, when i played it 17 when i saw the first screenshots. and i had sapphire.

SaniOKh May 8th, 2014 12:05 AM

I was about fourteen or fifteen when I first played Sapphire on an emulator (by then, my parents had enough of the whole Pokémon thing, and absolutely refused to buy me a GBA).

I remember hating it at first :) .

Mithel_Celestia May 8th, 2014 12:37 AM

The first time I played it, I was 9 or so. I was Grade Six when I started playing it. I had Sapphire but I lost it, then I got Ruby and managed to go far with it until the whole game has glitched somehow. I can't tell if they were original. The Philippines is prone to pirated goods and GBA games were the most common things to pirate. Anyway, then I have Emerald it it works like the original, but I knew it was pirated cause by the time I finish the Pokemon League, the save data would corrupt, so I never managed to experience Hoenn's Battle Frontier. It's great that I might experience it now with the remakes, hopefully.

Elaitenstile May 8th, 2014 12:42 AM

I was four lel
But then, I only got Sapphire about the time when they released Platinum. I don't really feel bad about that XD

Evening May 8th, 2014 12:49 AM

Eight years ago...I was four when the games came out, my Pokemon Ruby cartridge was given to ne as a present a day after the release date. I needed help to progress lel.

It's almost nine years...ha, ha, ha, ha, hahahahaha!

matoucs May 8th, 2014 1:09 AM

I was 13 when Ruby and Saphire come out ! I remember going to the JapanExpo in Paris like 2 months before the release and playing the demo ! i was so exited !

Kikaito plush May 8th, 2014 1:12 AM

I was 11 when they came out and was allowed to stay off school to get my Sapphire copy from GAME.

Hikamaru May 8th, 2014 1:46 AM

I had only just turned 11 when I played the original Ruby and Sapphire. You should all have heard how huge of a noob I was at the time, especially with team construction.

Bobbylicious May 8th, 2014 2:00 AM

Hmmm.... I believe I was 9/10/11, somewhere around there

Salzorrah May 8th, 2014 2:09 AM

I think I was around 9 or 10 when I first played Pokemon Sapphire on my XBOX emulator and it was the first one I played. I was so happy when I played it and it was that I got into Pokemon in the first place :)

Guardian May 8th, 2014 2:39 AM

I have to point it out, it's "Were", not "Where". :)

I was 11 or 12, Pokemon Sapphire on PC Emulator :D

RedMort May 8th, 2014 4:29 AM

I was over 12 or 13 when i played Pokémon Sapphire and fall in love with it.

I'm so happy now, because I know Nintendo will make a new game on Hoenn, I hope the story is different, but all the same, continue to be the best region of all ^ ^

I know don't ask me why I smuggled the 'h' in there. I blame my daughter distracting me lol. Can't change it either.

Judge Mandolore Shepard May 8th, 2014 6:12 AM

I was 14 years and 11 months old when Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire came out in the United States. Of course I don't exactly remember when I bought Pokemon Sapphire. it may have been in the summer of 2003.

DraconianWing May 8th, 2014 8:37 AM

I was 6 years old when I started playing. I don't really remember which game I played first though, it was either Ruby or Emerald.

Hiatus May 8th, 2014 3:58 PM

I was around 11 or 12 or so, if I remember correctly. First game was Pokémon Ruby, and was extremely excited when I got a hold of it; spent the whole day playing as soon as I bought it. :] Second was Emerald, which I've completed for approximately five - six time. As for third, it was Sapphire. Not sure why I purchased this one, though... probably due to collection purposes, haha.

Maserati777 May 8th, 2014 7:30 PM

I was 13 when the games came out, I bought Sapphire. It came out right around the time I was getting out of Pokemon so I wasn't as interested in it to be honest.

I played it how I played other Pokemon games as a kid, only used my starter, beat all the gyms but didn't have a team to take on the Elite Four, used my Master Ball on Kyogre. And I'm not all that familiar with Pokemon made after Gen 2 so I can't really go back and finish it. I'm not all that interested in finishing it or starting over actually.

Sydian May 8th, 2014 9:18 PM

I was 10! I got Sapphire on release date after saving my money for it. I bought it at KB Toys in the mall and my dad took me. I got Ruby as an early birthday present later that year along with another GBA because I wanted to trade with myself. Talking to other kids? That's a hassle. No thanks.

Peter Quill May 8th, 2014 9:46 PM

I was 7 when it came out. I haven't really played it that much since I just borrowed it from my cousin. Although I did play it in an emulator later on. My parents refuse to buy me handhelds because of studies. I do have consoles now, just waiting for Alpha Sapphire ; A;

Apollo May 9th, 2014 5:30 AM

I was 5-7 when I started LeafGreen, and 8-9 in Emerald. It was around 2009 when I started Emerald and the Advance Generation was on TV at the same time I played it, so I was unaware that Sinnoh existed even when it came out. I only found about Sinnoh when I was surfing Bulbapedia's page for Deoxys - and there was Turtwig next to it. I used to think the farther the dex number of a Pokemon is, the stronger it is ... and there I was, thinking that Turtwig was stronger than Deoxys. :p

BakingBluePotatoe May 9th, 2014 5:49 AM

2002 is when they came out, yes? I would have been... 7 at the time? But I didn't know Ruby and Sapphire existed until I was 12... oddly enough, I knew about FireRed and LeafGreen when they where new, since I recall seeing an ad for it on TV and asking for the games and my parents refusing...

But yeah, I was 12 the year DP came out to the states, and I got Sapphire then... at first I didn't like it, as THAT WAS NOT THE GAME I WANTED I WANTED BLUE RESCUE TEAM, BAaaaaW. but it grew on me after a few weeks. Sadly, the Hoenn era was short lived for me as I jumped to Pearl about a month after it came out.

Eevee May 9th, 2014 6:27 AM

Sapphire was my first game I ever got.

My cousin had it and I would always ask to play it. He was nice enough to let me play his version. I would go to his PC and take out the Pokemon I liked best (all the cute ones like Plusle and Delcatty of course xD), regardless of levels and then I'd go explore the land. I totally would get lost in caves without Flash or ways of escaping (dig/escape rope)

Since I liked his game so much, I asked for Sapphire too and I ended up getting it. I was 7 at the time so I wasn't the best trainer in the world. xD I definitely liked contests better than battling and still do to this very day!

LavenderTownGhost May 9th, 2014 10:45 AM

I was in the third grade when I got my Sapphire, so I guess around 10 years old. It was the first Pokemon game that I actually really got into.

New Eden May 9th, 2014 3:44 PM

I had to have been eight or so. I think around the same time Yu-Gi-Oh! became popular, so we all kinda acted like Pokemon was dead, and I think that kept going until FR/LG came out.

I never really got into R/S like others did (in fact they're not very nostalgic for me,) let alone Gen III. I ended up getting Sapphire.

Pendraflare May 9th, 2014 4:02 PM

I was 11 when I first saw of it and got Ruby for my 12th birthday. It was fun back then, I even remember bits and pieces from my first time. :P

TwilightBlade May 9th, 2014 4:09 PM

Ah let's see... March 2003... I would be 10 years, 10 months old. The best there ever was. I first saw a classmate play Ruby or Sapphire on his GBA. I don't remember the starter, probably a Torchic, but he had a Wingull named Whispey.

I believe I got Sapphire for my 11th birthday because I wrote down that I caught Latias on May 25th. I used to be very keen with writing down the dates something important happened to me, and she's my favorite Pokemon, haha. Also, one month after starting Sapphire, I recall getting Pokerus in Ever Grande. In one month I had finished the story and caught the roaming legendary. This brings the start date around to my April 23rd birthday. I don't really remember opening it as a gift, but I sure do remember playing it for 300 hours... XD

RedJ May 9th, 2014 4:43 PM

I had just turned eleven when they were released, but I didn't have a GBA at the time so I wouldn't actually get the games until I was around 13 (got my GBA SP the Christmas of the year FireRed/LeafGreen were announced, would get Ruby at some point after that).

I remember one of my friends letting me start a new game on their Sapphire and playing it at some point before that, though. I didn't particularly care that I would have to stop eventually; by that point in time I just wanted to play the game, even if it was only for a short amount of time.

Danny0317 May 9th, 2014 6:54 PM

Didn't hear about the announcements. I didn't even know RSE existed until I was 7, I'm 14 now.

Shadowraze May 10th, 2014 5:35 PM

I played Ruby when I was like 8 years old which is like 2007? Although I played FireRed a year before that xD

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ May 10th, 2014 6:17 PM

I was a 5th grader when I started playing these games and man was I a happy person.

:t354:TG

Nomine May 10th, 2014 6:22 PM

I'm pretty sure I was eight. I'm too lazy to do the math. (Hah!)

Brendino May 11th, 2014 12:30 AM

Hmm, I can't remember how old I was when I'd first heard about Ruby and Sapphire, but I know that I got my GBA SP and Sapphire from Christmas in either 2004 or 2005 (which would've made me 12 or 13 respectively). Either way, I always seemed to be a couple of releases behind everyone else as far as the Pokemon games were concerned, but that didn't stop me from putting in a couple hundred hours into Sapphire before I finally got FireRed, haha.

Xebelleon May 11th, 2014 1:19 AM

I was in high school with Sapphire originally. Sixteen or seventeen.

Palkia May 11th, 2014 2:15 AM

I was about 6 years old when I first played a Pokémon game (The first rescue team game) at a after school club and I thought it was cool. I begged my dad for a DS so I could play pokémon and that Xmas I got a DS (the old chubby one) with mario kart and couldn't wait to get my hands on a pokemon game. I then got Emerald and played it using the GBA slot on the DS and I was hooked.

Tetra May 11th, 2014 9:56 AM

It was released in 2003, right? Yeah, I can remember the day of its release date. I just turned seven, and since my sister had forgotten to gift me a birthday present, she got me Sapphire when it was released. Everyone was talking about it in school. It's such a shame that its not as popular in school as how it used to be. I loved it to bits. I still play the same cartridge time to time, but its battery is dead. :(

Imperator161 May 11th, 2014 8:49 PM

I was about 11 when I heard of R/S, and when I purchased Sapphire. I remember excitedly waiting for Friday so I could get the game (since I had too much homework/other stuff to get it and start it during the week). I also recall being disappointed about the fact that I couldn't get Blastoise, my favorite Pokémon, and that there was no backwards compatibility with gen 2. I was actually tempted not to play Sapphire after learning that, but decided to give it a try anyway, and ended up enjoying the experience (though I still liked Gold better).

I also recall being thrown by the graphical changes. I had no idea what the new grass was when I first looked at it, and was mildly surprised to discover that it was the game's version of tall grass.

She_Delphox May 12th, 2014 3:16 AM

When the good old Gen.3 games originally came out I was around 11/12 years old (also when I first got word of it). First I played a bit of Sapphire but that game was from a rich friend unfortunately, so I must have been around 13/14 years old when I could buy my first Gen.3 game, which was Ruby :3

Currently playing Emerald to re-live those days of awesome gameplay! ^_^

Khoshi May 12th, 2014 3:33 AM

I was only 5 years old when they originally came out... :x

Believe it or not, but I completely missed out on buying them ;_;. My parents didn't have enough money to buy me gaming devices back then, so I was stuck playing my friend's GBA SP, and he had Ruby Version. I think that was back in...2006-2007? 8 or 9 years old when I got them. Around when I got a DS to play Diamond Version.

I finally got the games for myself via emulator around I think 2010, which would have made me 12. I'm a very late person, I know :(

encas May 12th, 2014 10:32 PM

When Ruby and Sapphire were released, I was an eight year-old third grader. I remember being so incredibly hyped when those two versions were released in Japan in November 2002, but despite my enthusiasm for the releases, I ended up waiting until the following spring to get my hands on the games. Although I preordered both of them, I mainly played Sapphire (to this very day, I have kept one of my oldest Sapphire files, as I still have the Eon Ticket item on it, so I maintain that file just in case I need to mix records onto any of my other Hoenn cartridges).

Pepperton June 6th, 2014 10:46 AM

I can't remember exactly how old I was when I first bought Pokemon Sapphire, but I remember coming home from school they day they were released and begging my mom to drive me to Target and purchase it. After half an hour of bickering, she gave in and we set out to buy what later become one of my most coveted video games. My brother got Ruby, and we spent hours playing through the story line and trading with each other. I have so many fond memories travelling through Hoenn for the first time, and it always brings a smile to my face reminiscing about them. :]

Juno June 6th, 2014 2:14 PM

I got both Ruby and Sapphire almost immediately after it came out - I remember it being sold out at my local EB, so I had to go to a different mall to get it. I must have been about 9 then, since it was out in 2003.

Altairis June 6th, 2014 7:29 PM

Wow. I was six when they came out. However, I don't remember if I bought them as the came out or a little bit later. I think Emerald had already come out by then, so I was a little older by the time I got Sapphire and Emerald.

YungKnowledge June 6th, 2014 7:48 PM

10 or 11 I played Ruby 1st because I was helping a friend with his game. He hated grinding and level up his Pokemon. So I did it for him. I played Sapphire & Emerald emulators. The only 3rd Gen game I owned was Fire Red if you count that one.

enigmaeffect June 12th, 2014 3:01 AM

In 2003, I would have been 7 years old. I remember naming my first Sapphire team after Muppets.

Dreg June 14th, 2014 2:03 AM

I was 12 at the time when Ruby/Sapphire came out. I had the feeling that the move to Game Boy Advance would be better. And, indeed it was, and Ruby/Sapphire still remains my favorite games of the series.

Harmonious Fusion June 14th, 2014 9:18 AM

I was 8 when I heard the news and 9 when I played. I eventually got all the Hoenn games, but my first was Sapphire.

I remember all the rumors and speculation at school before the games came out.

"I hear your Pokemon can follow you in certain places."
"Yeah? Well I heard that the game has tornadoes in it and you have to outrun the storm."
"How cool is that? I can't wait!"

bewbs June 23rd, 2014 2:38 PM

I am currently Fearow years old.
I would have been about Butterfree or Weedle years old when I first started playing the games.

AluminiumOxide June 25th, 2014 11:45 PM

I was 15 or something when i first played Pokemon. Maybe 13 to 15. ahh yes between these years i used to play Pokemon games sooo much. Its was my drug and addiction.

Jellicent♀ July 15th, 2014 12:18 PM

I was around 11 years old when Ruby and Sapphire came out. They became my pure obsession the moment I got them.

nikkissippi121 July 15th, 2014 8:11 PM

I was 7 when I first saw the screenshots, 8 when I got Ruby. :)

mushimaster July 16th, 2014 7:27 AM

I was in 3rd grade when Pokemon first came out. That would make me 7 or 8. All of my friends would play pokemon at recess and trade and battle. I think that is when I started hating pvp pokemon. The original kinda sucked that way

moon July 18th, 2014 10:59 AM

I think I was 13 when me and my brother bought Ruby and a GBA together. I nagged the save file for ages, while he was stuck with playing Yellow. What can I say, I was the oldest and strongest >:)

keep--sailing July 21st, 2014 4:18 AM

I was playing Ruby in elementary school, so I know I was under 13. I remember sitting on the bus playing every day and I recall beating the Elite 4 for the first time whilst sitting on the bus heading to school. I logged countless hours on that cartridge. I still recall the time I beat the Elite 4 with just Blaziken lvl 100...good times good times.

tgage July 26th, 2014 8:32 PM

I was 13 when i first discovered pkmn. That is FR/LG and i liked its warm gameplay and music that other games in GBA such as FinalFantasy or Legend of zelda. Moreover pokemon just don't die when losing a battle.

The Serious Table July 27th, 2014 12:26 PM

I was only a wee little lad (XD Scottish impression?). I was 11 when I got this game and I loved it sooo much. Still have it after all these years! It's the second oldest cartridge I have. Second to Fire Emblem.

cmtthws92 July 27th, 2014 3:44 PM

I was 10 years old when I first saw the commercial for Pokemon Ruby. I wanted it so bad but I had to wait until November to purchase my Gameboy Advance and Ruby.

ApocalypticAnarchist July 27th, 2014 4:29 PM

I was 7 when Ruby/Sapphire came out but I didnt get a gameboy till emerald

Dying Light July 29th, 2014 9:53 PM

I was 9 when I first procured my copy of Leaf Green. Found it buried in the playground gravel, best believe I didn't tell anyone. Didn't have enough money at the time to shell out $30 for it, so I figure I got pretty lucky.

And then I got Emerald when I was like 13 or something at a local pawn shop for $5, guys said it's internal battery went out, so I visited my local grocery store and found a battery that fitted it perfectly.

CJoE July 29th, 2014 10:12 PM

I was 6 when my cousin introduced the pokemon red to me. After that, i start collecting gba games until 10. On my 11th birthday, my father gave me a ds and start playing pokemon diamond..after that, i start collecting all the game devices....my collections are almost complete..haha~

dresden_88 July 31st, 2014 2:39 AM

I was about 9 or 10 I think, when I first heard the beckoning call of pokemon red/blue. such a long time ago looking back at it. I've had many fond memories of the golden days when pokemon made even less sense than it does now. If I remember right, I heard about Gold and Silver when I was first getting into highschool. If you can't tell, I LITERALLY grew up with pokemon :3

Years have gone by, and due to increased cost of living, I don't have anything better than a GBA and the VBA emulator to play with friends that live a long distance from me (yay hamachi xD) anyways, I was just a child when pokemon first moved into my area and I'll probably keep playing til I get old and develop amnesia or something like that lol
