Updated Pokédex?

Do you think the new games will have an updated and expanded Pokédex from the originals'? Or do you think the Pokédex will be exactly the same? What Pokémon from newer games do you think will appear in the region, if any? What new features do you want for the Pokédex? Will the regional Dex be divided into three like Kalos? Will Pokémon with Mega Evolutions be found in the new games? Discuss anything about the Pokédex and possible obtainable species~

Elaitenstile May 8th, 2014 1:03 AM

Certainly yes. They introduced a good chunk of Hoenn mega evolutions in XY, so I'm not surprised if they're there. I think they would have the new cross-generational evolutions of the fourth generation and maybe a select few Black and White Pokémon, though I don't see them having XY Pokémon, as the games were just released.

Salzorrah May 8th, 2014 3:30 AM

I'm guessing the PokeDex would be expanded to add more Gen 4 - 6 Pokes and add the Megas and Cross-Generation Pokes as well :)

Pyrax May 8th, 2014 5:31 AM

I suspect that the Hoenn dex will receive the same treatment as the Johto dex in HGSS: same as the originals, but with the addition of a handful of cross-generational relatives. Personally, I'd love to see the likes of Gallade, Froslass, Roserade and Dusknoir added to the mix; should GameFreak repeat their decision (all the additions were evolutions of mons that required leveling up whilst knowing a certain move) and choose not to include mons which evolve via items or are obtained through incense breeding, all we'll get is Probopass and Magnezone.

I'm not saying Probopass and Magnezore are particularly bad, it's just that I'd prefer seeing more than two additions.

EDIT: Oh yes, I'd love to also see Shellos and Gastrodon, seeing as they were initially designed for Gen III.

Ultraviolence May 8th, 2014 5:34 AM

I expect to see the Dex to get a slight expansion, including cross-generational relatives. Oh, and also Shellos. I hope it's there.

Zeturic May 8th, 2014 5:54 AM

I think they should include all cross-generational relatives, not just the move-based evolutions like HGSS did.

Then, I think they should work on rounding out a couple of the types a bit better. For example, we could definitely use a couple more Ice-type families and Fire-type families.

As far as specific Pokemon, throw in Eevee, because, well, it's Eevee. And Ditto to make breeding less of a pain. And, while we're at it, just throw in Misdreavus and Murkrow, because they would in at Mt. Pyre. And Shellos, as mentioned above.

If this wasn't mid-generation, I would say they should add in a new Shellos form - a South Sea form, or an Ocean form. However, because Shellos are locked into their forms, it would cause trading problems...

Pinkie-Dawn May 8th, 2014 5:56 AM

There are 202 Pokemon in the Hoenn dex, and I expect it to get an increase with the addition of evolutions to Hoenn Pokemon and previous gen Pokemon who are already on the Hoenn dex. I also hope for additions of Pokemon that weren't included in the dex previously for the sake type diversity (we need more Ice, Fire, Electric, Ghost, and Dragon types in Hoenn darn it).

Sabrewulf238 May 8th, 2014 6:07 AM

It's hard to say, especially since we know it's a remake now rather than a sequel.

Having just around 200 pokemon available to us before beating the champion would be a disappointing step down from 450. On the other hand if you flood Hoenn with Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos pokemon it might steal the thunder from the 3rd gen pokemon.

We'll get added evolutions like Roserade and Dusknoir at least. Maybe a couple extra like the Shellos family. (I could see Yamask being added to the desert) They might change the Safari Zone to include newer gen pokemon and have it accessible before completing the story.

In a way it's kinda meaningless because thanks to Pokebank we can have whatever pokemon we want if it's accessible before end game.

Eevee May 8th, 2014 6:07 AM

I didn't even think about type diversity ^ Don't want the games to lack a certain Pokemon type like the fire types in Sinnoh.

I'm sure they'll add a few more Pokemon. Since Megas were huge in X and Y, there's no doubt they'll add some more in these too. Having a bigger Pokedex wouldn't hurt anyone. But it also wouldn't hurt to have mostly Hoenn Pokemon and then just have a National Dex where you can transfer non Hoenn Pokemon over through Bank. I'm sure they'll use Bank in some way like that.

Alexander Nicholi May 8th, 2014 6:24 AM

I'd love to see them do something like an expanded Pokédex like what was done between DP and Platinum. I concur with the others on the rest; An expanded Pokédex is definitely necessary for the cross-gen evos and mega evolutions and whatnot.

Altairis May 8th, 2014 6:33 AM

I think they will definitely add some new Pokemon. I just don't think it'll be on the scale that Kalos was. I think that a lot of the Pokemon that weren't included in Kalos will be stuck in ORAS somewhere, so that people will have the ability to catch all the Pokemon without transferring any from a previous generation.

Abby May 8th, 2014 6:45 AM

So add cross gen pokemon and mega evrelutions,
then it wouldnt be impossible to have certain new areas where newer pokemon can be found.

Cordelia May 8th, 2014 7:00 AM

I really hope we have a nice addition to the XY Pokedex so that we have more options to use in the game and in official tourneys n_n

Eevee May 8th, 2014 7:03 AM

Not that it's the end of the world but I'm hoping that they keep one big Pokedex. I didn't like how it was split in Kalos. Made finding Pokemon manually a big pain the behind because you never knew which Pokemon were where. X_X

I'm expecting they'll add all the cross-gen evolutions/pre-evolutions for the Hoenn Dex Pokemon in there, so that it stays true to the original yet feels updated at the same time.

Yeah, the original Hoenn Dex was severely lacking in Ghost and Ice-types especially if I could remember, and as a result Phoebe and Glacia ended up using multiple team members of the same evolution lines. I think an expansion would help alleviate the issue, like how Platinum added more Fire-types to the Sinnoh Dex.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 8th, 2014 7:28 AM

I see Phoebe having a Dusknoir and a Dusclops (with Evolite) to make it look better than two Dusclops.

Ontopic: I hope that they add the cross generation pre evolutions and evolutions and after that leave the dex as it is. XY's dex was a bit overwhelming...and that was the regional one...Plus we may get a Johto starter after finishing the Dex...

When they brought out X and Y they did put some pokemon from Black and White, so they might put some pokemon from XY into these games

Also HeartGold and SoulSilver had Sinnoh Pokemon available (some in the dex but more in the post game). I just hope they keep the XY and BW Pokemon minus Megas until after the main story ends.

Yeah, I think they'll try and retain the original Hoenn Dex but with the 4th Gen pre-evos and evos added in, hopefully this will make Phoebe have some variety by having a Dusknoir as her ace Pokemon instead of a Sableye (I think it was a Sableye) in the originals. And maybe give Glacia a Froslass as well.

I really don't like it when Gym Leaders or Elite Four use multiple members of the same Pokemon, or in the case of Diamond and Pearl, using Pokemon that isn't even of their own specialized type, but in that game's case it was due to a lack of certain types in the Sinnoh Dex.

I think it's always been Dusclops. Maybe they'll give both Glacia and Phoebe Froslass.

In the earlier games I could see why they would use multiple Pokemon of the same line but with 700+, there's really no reason for it anymore. R.I.P. gym leaders with 2 Onix.

The Doctor May 8th, 2014 8:26 AM

I hope it stays the exact same as the original Hoenn dex, I dont mind like old pokemons new evolutions getting added in like Gallade etc and the megas but I dont wanna see any newer pokemon in the region since these are remakes.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 8th, 2014 8:36 AM

According to Bulbapedia Pokemon like Mew, Lugia, Bulbasaur, etc. have unused Hoenn dex numbers, so if for some reason they are to update the dex they may finally use them...

Was Eevee in Hoenn? If it's here, Glaceon is also on the table. Hopefully there won't be any type shortages. In general stuff like the Fire elite 4 member of Sinnoh and the examples listed here are just really stupid. If there are too few of a type to support a gym leader/elite 4 member then just don't make a gym 4/elite 4 member of that type. It's not that difficult!

Nope, Eevee only appears in Gen 1 and the even numbered generations dexes (note FrLg aren't being counted here).
