Wardrobe/Customization & Hair Options Discussion

I really want to see some more options compared to X/Y. That's my opinion.

Do you think they are going to bring this back? If so, what do you want to see with it?

Mithel_Celestia May 8th, 2014 5:29 AM

What clothes and accessories do I want to see?

I have alot in my mind but mostly things that I want on my character.
>Pokeball Headset Accessory(Looks abit like Beats, but a Pokeball on the side.)
>Mask Accessory (similar to Neo Team Plasma)
>Trenchcoat for Males
>Gloves(Cloth, Leather, etc.)
>Shades on your eyes

There are more but I can't think of anything else right now. I wish GameFreak can help make Player Customizing more varied.

Pinkie-Dawn May 8th, 2014 6:04 AM

Since Hoenn is surrounded by water, I'm expecting more summer-themed outfits, footwear, and accessories to go along with it.

Meksal May 8th, 2014 6:06 AM

I can't stand the lack of styling options for boys, what an insult! If they do bring this back (which I hope they do), I want more options, plain and simple

Altairis May 8th, 2014 6:31 AM

I played as a boy the second time around and I was definitely disappointed in the lack of options compared to the girls :( So if they do bring this back, haha, I say give more clothes to the boys!

Eevee May 8th, 2014 6:36 AM

I do wonder if they'll bring this back or not. I'm kinda fine either way personally. I might not even change May's outfit because I like her default one. xD

But I definitely wouldn't mind if they had swimsuits or summer wear! ^w^b

Katunei999 May 8th, 2014 9:57 AM

I don't think they can avoid bringing back a changing wardrobe. It was such a big hit and had such a great reaction, I think they would be getting a lot of angry gamers if they went back to default only now. And besides, I think it will be fabulous. Having it on X and Y was fun and all, but being able to customize my childhood hero? Make her into a version that is both nostalgic, yet totally and completely my own? I think it's going to be amazing!

Blu·Ray May 8th, 2014 10:07 AM

The more, the better! Keep the wardrobe coming!

SnowpointQuincy May 8th, 2014 10:55 AM

I want more clothes for boys too. I want a business suit and a tuxedo. I want matching Tophats for me and my pokemon.

Jellicent♀ May 8th, 2014 10:57 AM

I honestly love Brendan's outfit so much I doubt I'd ever change it, and if I did it would still very much so look like his default outfit. xD
Maybe if they had some pinker options~

Timbjerr May 8th, 2014 11:03 AM

I don't fully know what options females had in XY, but males at least need an option for their shirt and another for their outerwear. I think mixing and matching a T-shirt with different types of coats or vests would be a great touch.

Though considering that Hoenn is a tropical region, wearing an overcoat may be a bit unstylish. XD

Sirius Black May 8th, 2014 2:02 PM

I would totally wear an overcoat and as someone said "PokeBeats"

Princess Diana May 8th, 2014 2:08 PM

I'd like the option of not wearing a hat at all.

I'd like a really diverse array of clothes (i.e. just a shirt, sweatshirts, coats etc) as well as different prints and designs

Aquacorde May 8th, 2014 2:33 PM

+1 hatless capability
+1 separate outerwear/shirts

I don't think I want much for heavy outerwear like all the coats we had in XY. Hoenn's only got Shoal Cave and that area that actually gets cold. Maybe a few windbreakers/raincoats instead! And more summery tropical things for sure. The option to hold an umbrella instead of/as well as a bag would be cute as well. Hoenn is rainy as heck in places. AND MORE GUY CLOTHES PLEASE all kinds of shorts and pants styles and patterns like basketball shorts, board shorts, cargo shorts, with different prints and more vibrant colors aaah. AND GLASSES PLEASE. Glasses in different styles and sunglasses and swim goggles and maybe you have to equip the Go-Goggles to get through the desert aaah.

Elaitenstile May 8th, 2014 8:51 PM

I would really like to see a selection of casual summer clothes and autumn wear in the games, and I would totally want to select hardcore scuba diving outfits. The wardrobe option would also allow us to picture ourselves as the characters we wished Brendan/May were.

~Platina's Jason~ May 8th, 2014 8:58 PM

I personally don't want customization to return. I personally see the original RS default outfits as iconic and feel like customization would take away from that. I was okay with it in X and Y since while there was a default we knew we could change it but after more than ten years I feel like we should keep the outfits the same.

Aquacorde May 8th, 2014 9:05 PM

Well I mean, I would love to have May and Brendan be the base models and their outfits the default outfits (with Emerald outfits unlockable). But I don't want to go without customization because it's such a fun thing to have. Now that it's there, why not use it?

~Platina's Jason~ May 8th, 2014 9:09 PM

I like customization. It's just that I'm so used to the original defaults that I feel like it would be best to keep them for remakes and use customization solely for non remakes if that makes sense.

Aquacorde May 8th, 2014 9:17 PM

I do see what you're saying and I guess that does make sense but. I'd just rather have customization. And tbh I see what you're saying as almost like if someone said "I'd rather not have had the option to be a girl in FRLG/HGSS because there wasn't that option before."

Hiatus May 8th, 2014 9:22 PM

Loved being able to customize my character in X and Y, and would really, really like it if they brought it back in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. n_n; I was a little disappointed, though, when it came to selection of clothes and accessories you were able to use, but hopefully, they fix it up this time around and allow us to download them online and save them onto our SD card (or something) for later use. If we were given chance to design our own outfits, that would be even better!

I don't understand how that comparison works. Could you explain?

Keiran May 8th, 2014 9:26 PM

I hope they bring this back! I'd definitely like to see some summer-type clothes since we'd be in Hoenn. Hopefully we can remove hats, too, and also have some decent looking haircuts for the males.

Taemin May 8th, 2014 9:29 PM

If anything, I think we'll definitely get more customization rather than less.

I'd like to see more wardrobe choices for both genders, but I especially felt sorry for the male player characters in X and Y, because they got even less choices than that girls. Soooo I hope that changes with the upcoming games.

If they don't have trainer customization, or if they keep the outfits as limited as before, I'll be super surprised. Especially since X and Y customization was the first time they'd ever done something like that with a Pokemon game, so that leaves a lot of room for improvment. I feel like the remakes are a good playing field for them to try out different customization and wardrobe changes.

Something that would be cool to see would be including outfits that matched, or at least referenced May and Brendan's original outfits from RSE.

Elaitenstile May 8th, 2014 9:29 PM

Yeah, it would be cool to see the remade Brendan/May and not customizing them, but at least change of clothes is something necessary. And the skin colour, to avoid racism. But is it really going to be so bad with a few change of clothes? I don't really think so.

Aquacorde May 8th, 2014 9:32 PM

You're saying you don't want customization because the characters are too iconic to change. But adding girls is also a change to iconic player character options, is it not? Red and Gold are iconic characters. Adding the option to be someone else is a change to that. But they were added to appeal to a more diverse audience. Girls often want to play as girls, it's easier to self-insert that way. And Pokémon is the player's own journey.
Brendan and May are widely loved. Adding the option to customize them will be a change to that. But they're still there, they'd be the base model, the opposite-gendered protag would be in the story as the base model. But customization gives even more of a way to self-inset. That's just really important- how many people of different skin tones, hair colors, fashion senses are playing Pokémon now? So many. And they often want to see themselves reflected in the character they're playing as.

And it's not like Brendan and May would be gone. You can totally just play as their default designs. But customization appeals so much to people that it would be silly not to have it.

~Platina's Jason~ May 8th, 2014 9:37 PM

Well yes your reasoning makes sense. I never denied that. It's just that I would personally prefer to stick to the default because of the iconicness and that for me that overules the desire to make the characters look like me. -Shrug- Just answering part of the question the thread proposed.

Aquacorde May 8th, 2014 9:39 PM

And that's fine. I'm just saying, even with customization implemented, there's no reason you have to use it if you don't want. So it'd probably be better if it were there and people with your opinion could choose not to use it rather than it not be there and everyone who absolutely adored it and looked forward to seeing it utilized more be denied a very popular option.

Elaitenstile May 8th, 2014 9:58 PM

Haha, yeah. I don't feel bad about it either way, just that customizing ourselves and our Secret Base together makes it get that customisation feel. But then again, I'm not hardpressing for wardrobes either.

Killjoy May 8th, 2014 10:01 PM

No hats, no masters

I very much enjoyed the direction they took customization in x and y, and would be happy with just a few more options. As was said some simple things like the ability to take your hat off would be appreciated, as I don't generally wear a hat in year life.

More options for bags would be nice. For instance, I was hoping the X and Y character would have access to backpacks as well as their satchels.

As well as just a few more outfits, expecially for the male

εcho. May 8th, 2014 10:09 PM

More options for guys.
More clothes in general.
HATLESS OPTIONS.

I really enjoyed the customization feature in XY so I hope they keep it in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

I like what the previous poster suggested about backpacks as well as satchels/purses as well.

Kyrul May 8th, 2014 10:20 PM

I want the option for no hats.
Oh, and tattoos. I see 10 year olds wearing those fake tattoos all the time, so it's cool.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 8th, 2014 10:21 PM

Since Kalos had some inspiration from France in their clothes I hope they use clothes used in Japan (hopefully Kyushu since that's what Hoenn is base off of). Maybe the girls will get Lolita dresses...
I sure hope that we boys get more hair styles...I liked changing it up.
Also if they change the default clothes of the player characters from the original then I hope they sell the original clothes from Emerald and from Ruby and Sapphire's (maybe a blue version of these ones, so that those who are playing as May and who are into Pokemon special can dress up May like Sapphire)

Rivvon May 8th, 2014 10:56 PM

I really hope customization remains. It was introduced mostly for the PSS, and since gen 3 had no touch-screen, I don't see why they can't just re-use the PSS, Amie, and Super Training (unless they want to exchange Super Training for something new but what that could be I have no idea--maybe Contest related?).

The PSS is really great. I don't want to see it go and I don't see why Game Freak would remove it after they worked so hard on it. As a result, I can't imagine character customization leaving, either.

With that being said, I really hope we get more clothing options, and more ways to mix and match. And I can understand their reasoning for wanting hats always on but I think an option to remove it would be more worthwhile. And just...more of everything. More hat types, more hairstyles.

And it would be so cool if in the more tropical areas you got swimwear and such. Aaaaah! Excitement!

Salzorrah May 9th, 2014 2:00 AM

> More hats and bandannas
> More hairstyles
> More contacts
> More clothes
> Option to remove hats

I love customizing my avatar in XY so I would love to see it in ORAS :33

fenyx4 May 9th, 2014 6:33 PM

Some wardrobe options that I would like to see implemented are:

-An option for Brendan May's Ruby/Sapphire outfits (red-based headbands, yellow bags) and Emerald outfits (green headbands, shorts+pants for Brendan, green bags)..

-Team Magma outfits and Team Aqua outfits, of course.. http://www.pokecommunity.com/images/templates/smilies/cerulean/12.%20tongue.gif Maybe even Team Rocket for nostalgia purposes?

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/c/c3/Ruby_Sapphire_Team_Magma_Grunts.pnghttp://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/18/Ruby_Sapphire_Team_Aqua_Grunts.png

-an option to have outfits that resemble the Ruby/Sapphire Poke Maniac cosplayers, CoolTrainers, Pokemon Breeders, and Pokemon Rangers..?

-Although really minor, an option to make Brendan's "white mass" look more like actual hair than a hat..

-An option to make May resemble her Pokemon Special/manga counterpart, Sapphire:

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/f/f9/Sapphire_Adventures.png

-maybe some clothing options from Pokemon Colosseum/XD that Wes, Michael, and Rui wore? They are fellow beloved Generation 3 games, after all:

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7d/Colosseum_Wes_3D.png/140px-Colosseum_Wes_3D.pnghttp://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/62/Colosseum_Rui_3D.png/75px-Colosseum_Rui_3D.pnghttp://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/35/XD_Michael.png/180px-XD_Michael.png

-hatless options.

-all of May's wonderful, wonderful dresses and outfits from Pokemon: Advanced Generation saga and onwards. Seriously, they practically foreshadowed customization in Ruby/Sapphire remakes. XD

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 9th, 2014 6:38 PM

I hope they have more color options. Also maybe they could give us the remake clothes of Red, Leaf, Ethan, and Lyra too.

Jacrad May 9th, 2014 8:05 PM

Oh~ho this a subject I could talk about for days.
What I'm going to say here will probably end up echoed numerous times over generations until every single feature I want appears (Whether that's realistic or not.)

The minimum improvement I want to see is very simple.
-Hatless option.

-Unnatural colored hair and eye options.

-Different eye styles.

-Clothing in at least 9 base colors for each outfit. The primary colors, secondary colors, black, white, and brown. Preferably the addition of turquoise and pink since they have been used extensively throughout Pokemon. They recolored 700+ models for shiny Pokemon. I think the team is capable of doing this.

The more extensive stuff that is, in all honesty, unlikely.
-Different eyebrow styles. This one's just unlikely. But it could be a nice touch.

-A separate layer for jackets and undershirts.

-I want access to every art asset, save maybe the gym leader's clothing. I don't see any reason we shouldn't be able to wear the clothes the NPCs have. The assets are RIGHT THERE. Take advantage of them.

-No gender exclusive clothing. This is really more unlikely than it is extensive. But just remove the gender exclusivity. Options are always good to have. There's no reason to limit people.

-A much greater variety of cuts for the clothing. If GameFreak would make it so players dictated how clothing looked rather than having pre-made sets the Pokemon world would be astronomically better. Just give us a bunch of different cuts and let us take care of the color and design.

-A dyeing system for clothing (and hair if we can't get unnatural colors at the start.) You don't necessarily need to give us the entire hex spectrum of colors. But if we could at least modify clothing to match closer to the the colors we want them to be that would be great. Bonus points if we can dye every part of the clothes (such as the patterns) rather than just the base color.

-A component based system for hair. A bang portion, back portion, and auxiliary (ponytails, pigtails, and cowlicks.) With a system like this more pieces is infinitely better. But even if it's just three bang portions, back portions, and the auxiliary examples I mentioned it still comes out to a lot of variety. Also, there is no need to gender lock any of this stuff.

-The ability to create the textures for the clothing like you can in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. This one is probably not going to happen. That's the type of feature that should probably be saved for a 100% new title. Don't care. I'd like to see it. The great thing about this is that even if you don't get the exact cut of clothing you want to see you can at least try and fake it. No tuxedo? Take a long sleeve shirt and draw on it to look like one. If it can be shared via QR code, that's even better. (I do understand that since the game uses two models for the player this would be difficult. But they could just make a formula to resize whatever you draw.)

-Take the good from the Mii Creator. Let us mess around with stuff like the spacing between our nose and mouth, the angle our eyebrows are at, how big we want our eyes (Especially since Valerie has massive eyes), and all that jazz.

Lynker May 9th, 2014 8:36 PM

I kind of wish it wouldn't come back for this installment, mainly because it's a remake of RSE. But on the bright side, they can add the outfits from Emerald! (I'm guessing they'll be using the Ruby and Sapphire clothing)

Although, I would be happy with being able to customize Brendan. It'd be cool to take his hat off, finally. xD

Chibi-chan May 9th, 2014 8:41 PM

Why would anyone want to customize May and Brendan's outfit...they're so perfect already....

If you take a look at what they wear, you'll see that it's highly tailored to Hoenn's conditions. Unlike X/Y, where the weather was just nice all around, Hoenn's conditions are extreme, hence May's 'underarmor' and Brendan's pants tucked into his shoes. If there are new outfits, I really wouldn't want them to be cute and frilly; that doesn't fit with the environment. If there is clothing customization, they should be outfits that are consciousness of the climate of Hoenn. Something that's cute, but durable and can get dirty. It's important for me at least that if there was clothing customization, it wouldn't detract from the immersion.

Zeffy May 12th, 2014 4:14 AM

Player customization

I've searched around for a thread pertaining to this feature but it seems that there is none! Or at least, none that I saw. Forgive me if there is already one!

Anyway, XY introduced an innovative player customization feature. This is something that I quite enjoyed doing, but I still felt lacking, to some degree. Is it possible that they're going to introduce a similar mechanic?

I would love for this feature to make a return. As I've said earlier, I absolutely enjoyed tailoring how my player looks like. I think it'd be a great addition to the already amazing games.

Evening May 12th, 2014 4:26 AM

Zeffy you suck.

Well, the clothes get smelly don't they? The characters need to change clothes sometime too.

Arylett Charnoa May 12th, 2014 6:11 AM

I hope they will. Really do. In fact, what I want is for them to improve it significantly and add way more options. Like glasses or more types of hair. That would be absolutely wonderful. And more clothes for male characters!

They can still have Brendon and May be the default for those types who don't like customizing characters and just want to move on or like their nostalgia buckets. I think that's probably what they WILL do, as a matter of fact.

mikey May 12th, 2014 12:28 PM

I think they'll bring back trainer customization, although I hope they do not. I really want to play as the protagonists from the original games, for nostalgia. If they do bring back trainer customization, it wouldn't be the worst thing though.

blue May 12th, 2014 2:26 PM

I actually don't hope they bring back clothing or accessories. I never really dressed my characters up in X & Y nor did I have much of an interest to it. If they carried this over to ORAS then it wouldn't really feeling like you're playing as the original protagonists, May and Brendan.

Pepperton May 12th, 2014 3:06 PM

The clothing customization feature is definitely something they can expand on. I'd like to see a large variety of different hats that can be worn, like beanies, baseball caps, headbands, bandanas, top-hats, fedoras, all in different colors and patterns. There could be more unique hairstyles implemented as well, along with more detail-oriented shirts and pants. X and Y's version of this feature left a lot to be desired, imo.

Revgadon May 13th, 2014 12:57 AM

Hairstyles? Boutiques? Don't let me down Hoenn!

What do you guys think? Do you think we'll be getting options for customization/hairstyles on our characters as much as X/Y or will we be gender locked like previous games? Personally, I hope they add more hairstyles for guys if there is customization because in X/Y there was only 3 while girls got 6 if i'm not wrong. And even if there were boutiques in ORAS, do you think that we'll get as much customization on our clothes like X/Y and more? I mean it's barely been a year since X/Y came out.

Altius May 13th, 2014 2:37 AM

Sadly, I don't see much use of hairstyles unless you play as a female character.

*Imagines May with other hairstyle*

Okay, maybe at Slateport?

Jacrad May 13th, 2014 2:47 AM

ORAS has lots of potential...
Unlike X and Y where the budget on art assets had to have been seriously stretched, ORAS has the advantage of having lots of its art assets already complete. There shouldn't be too many additional models needed for the Pokemon. So hopefully this means the character customization can get a little bit more attention and resources.

I would imagine they will have character customization. Namely because unlike Gold, Silver, and Crystal the protagonists have two outfits as it is. Rather than deciding on one or the other they can just make both attires an option. And if you're going to go through that effort you may as well go all the way. Especially considering they have the basis for it from X and Y.

4D73R May 14th, 2014 12:01 PM

Character Customization?

Do you guys think that there will be character customization? I'm scared that they won't because:
1- The developers said that the reason that they implemented it into XY was because Paris was a place of fashion. Could that mean they are taking it out for the other games?

2- In a remake, you would expect to play as the main trainer, right?

3- If they do add more customization, will it be the same stuff or will they add more (if they do add customization, I think they would switch stuff like fedora's and other Paris style stuff)?

4- Could they add a character customization in the beginning like an MMO and to unlock more clothes later?

Maybe it's all over speculation, but I'm nervous about this game with it's aesthetics... What do you guys think? Otherwise I'm excited for the remake, I loved Emerald when I played it. :D

That's like saying they're taking out mega evolutions because it's a "kalos only" thing, which considering the box art, i doubt (it is possible though :( )

Anyways I hope they add more cloths because I love customizing, plus it would be perfect for contests :P

4D73R May 14th, 2014 12:23 PM

Yeeeeah, I guess it's just me being nervous about the game. I wish they would release a bit more info. The only reason I thought they would take out customization is because it's a remake, that could force you to be Brandon or May. Unless they make Brandon or May the champion and you just start your adventure in Hoenn. :O Dun dun duuuuuuuun!!!

"HoneyClaws" May 14th, 2014 12:35 PM

Hoenn is the land of Pokemon Contests. I see no reason why not go by that reason alone. Though wether it should be in or not isnt a simple choice I can give. For one thing I wouldnt change a thing about the current protagonists because their designs are perfect to me as they are; but having the option to personalize anything they give you in these games should never be questioned. I wouldnt change a thing but it shouldnt limit other people who might want to customize them. I might want to recolour them myself at most. This feature has been desired for years and highly utilized online. Instead of fighting clones of yourself we need the option just for some sense of real individuality regardless.

The only problem I have with X/Y's customization was how constricting it was. The clothing offered was pretty generic compared to the other clothing used in the games. Instead of giving us badass clothing like what the ace trainers, gym leaders and rangers wear... we get simple jeans and baseball hats.....smh.

4D73R May 14th, 2014 1:20 PM

You're right. Hoenn's contests will hopefully add more dress styles in the competitions with changing to tuxedos and etcetera. I agree with the thing about XY clothing being restricted. They could have at least added a unique type of clothing like Lucas has a scarf or Brandon has a headband. Something like that would've been awesome. However I'm not complaining about the customization in XY because it was the start of something brand new in the Poke generations. It's better than fighting thousands of protagonists that seem to be your twin (Momma has explaining to do).

As much as I want it, it would feel pointless if they dont give us desirable clothing worth the exchange, if the clothing we get at default is better than the clothing they give us it doesn't equate. In how I wanted Customization I would have expected to get clothing from the other players that already preexist, like getting Dawn's hat, or her boots or something. Not just random unpokemonish sunglasses and hates. The clothing in X/Y didnt really make the game look like a pokemon game, but rather more a persona game. Thats not what I want.

4D73R May 14th, 2014 2:19 PM

Yeah, the style does remind me of persona. The clothing styles did lack that pizzazz but hopefully they will add some cool stuff that looks like it could be the new clothing of an ace trainer. The girl's styles to me looked good simply because of the more trainer looking style. That just my opinion, but the boy's looks like we are just Old Navy models. Maybe we will get something better in the future, but I'm looking forward to them bringing back the secret bases (HOPEFULLY). That was so cool. I have a doubt in my mind about it however, I wish Gamefreak would not focus to much on the battling and maybe make games that resemble the life of a trainer.

Princess Diana May 14th, 2014 2:46 PM

Now that they've added it into X/Y, it would seem a bit reductive to remove it in future games. If it is included once again (and I hope that it becomes a regular feature from here on out), then I hope there are more options i.e. the option to remove your hat

Its the fact that the clothing given doesnt look anything like its from Pokemon itself.

If we play as Brandon/May, it would be so strange to see Brandon without that white hat imo. :P

This. It really bothered me that my character couldn't not wear a hat.

4D73R May 14th, 2014 3:18 PM

That's one of the things that nagged at me a bit. You couldn't remove your hat, but for some reason, you could remove your socks. Weird right? Maybe they will change this in the future.

"HoneyClaws" May 14th, 2014 6:45 PM

I don't want anymore generic clothing or generic hair styles. I want clothing from the actual region in the actual game.

- They need to add a colour-slidder. Its ridiculous that you cant really be free with what type of trainer you make. You should be able to make your hair, clothes and skin any colour you want rather than just a few generic standard colours they give you.

- Facial expressions should be an option, the ability to choose your emotion and facial expression is a must. The generic bland face you had in X/y was just creepy to look at, you looked like a doll.

- The clothing options in X/Y was just sad. Men barely had any options for themselves unlike the girls but even their options were really limited. Its the only thing I hate about the idea is that there is barely anything ever better than your own clothing to wear.

Well that's the neat thing about customization, you can choose to customize or not to depending on your preference. But really, should the people who don't want customization limit the game for people do?

starseed galaxy auticorn May 15th, 2014 7:11 AM

I agree with a lot of people. I also want to see more cutsey stuff for girls. The girls didn't have much to choose from that I liked. It would be nice to have a tomboyish approach as well since I'm not into the really girly sort of clothing. I also would love if they added more options like having cat ears for girls and dog ears for boys... or something like that. Maybe even taking it to the next level by creating hats for both genders similar to the Pancham hat for boys.

I do hope they add this. It was fun to try and make your trainer look cool and unique. I was a bit disappointed with the clothing, and I was expecting much more to work with for outfits, but I bet that's probably just me.

4D73R May 15th, 2014 7:52 AM

We definitely need more haircuts, and the option to dye your hair different colors rather than simple blonde, black, brown. I have brown hair irl but got white highlights recently (upon girlfriend request), so I think adding highlights for both genders would be cool too. And because Hoenn is based off of southern japan, I see a lot more funky styles with headbands, jumpsuits, and other stuff like that. My prediction for female clothes;

*Hats will be bandannas, no hats, and beanies.
*Tops will be sleeveless sweaters (famous in southern japan culture), the default shirt/skirt, and long sleeved shirts.
*Bottom wear could have skirts, shorts, and jeans.
*Shoes will have boots (famous in southern japan culture), tennis shoes, and sandals (for all those dang water routes).
*If they include competition clothes where you can make your own fancy outfit I imagine dresses with lots of customizable features.

My prediction for male clothes is;

*Hats will have headbands, no hats, and casual baseball caps like before.
*Tops will have shirts with bubble vests (again another style in southern japan), default short sleeved trainer shirt, and jackets.
*Bottom wear could have shorts and jeans.
*Shoes will have boots and tennis shoes.
*If they include competition clothes you can make your own fancy outfit I imagine suits and ties (oh yeah ;D).

These are my predictions, this is based off of research of southern japan clothing, but to be frank I don't know if they will even add character customization in this game because it is a remake and they want to make it like the previous game as much as possible. I hope they add more customization possibilities though, I liked making my trainer look like me and it made me feel like I was in the game. Anyway I hope they add more customization rather than take it away. Feel free to add on to the list for your prediction of clothing.

*EDIT: I saw my thread was added to another's so I restated some of my opinions in this post.*

Hatsune Mika May 15th, 2014 8:10 AM

I haven't seen much but what I have seen seems good all though it would probably help with a better selection of the wardrobe.

Pepperton May 23rd, 2014 8:46 PM

My life will significantly improve if they provide unlockable Team Aqua/Magma uniforms post-game. It's not a good sign that they didn't do something similar with Team Flare in Kalos, but I'm going to remain optimistic and hopeful. c:

That would be awesome. I hope they do something like this.

On another note, more hair colours would be great. And styles. Maybe options for wavy vs. straight hair in girls? And just all-around more options for the boys.

Chr. Draco May 23rd, 2014 10:53 PM

It would be good if they add more clothes styles, maybe bringing back some from previous generations and be able to dress like some of the gym leaders, elite four or champions and also add some pokemon costumes.

Star Swirl the Bearded May 24th, 2014 10:39 AM

I have never used brendam and May in the original games, (cause i dont have RSE i only played in emulators, and i could use hacking tools to edit the characters) so i dont care of loosing them, and it would be nice to have in game costumization. Also, it would be nice to have oficial costumization, cause i am not a pro designer

Pepperton May 28th, 2014 5:19 PM

It would be a waste it Game Freak doesn't take advantage of the customization feature. It was probably the only glaring discrepancy in Pokemon games, and received ultimately positive feedback. With ORAS, they need to polish the kinks, add more options, and make the shops more accessible. Maybe it's just my impercipient self, but I had a hard time finding the buildings that clothing.

Salzorrah May 28th, 2014 11:28 PM

Maybe they could replace the Marts before with Boutiques or Hair stylists... Even if we will have a crapton of boutiques, maybe they could have it that match up with the surroundings?

That's a solid idea; usually the Marts are easily to spot, so it would be much simpler to find the shops. Maybe they should make it an option to shave the player's head, like a buzz cut, or even mohawks and other crazy haircuts - braids and cornrows? I'd certainly get my player that, just for laughs! n__n'

Pokemanz June 1st, 2014 10:55 AM

I really hope we can customize our trainer in ORAS.

> Take Brendan
> Dye his hair white
> Replace hat with a bandana
> Laugh as other people try to "take off the hat"
> Profit

But I wish they would have more hair colors or hair styles at least.

SnowpointQuincy June 2nd, 2014 6:27 AM

I want Tuxedos, suits, and Team Rocket Gear for my trainer.

I want to edit Color on ALL of my clothes. At least sell some Dyes in the shops, or something.

Universe June 2nd, 2014 6:58 AM

... I really am on the fence about this option showing up in the remakes. It just seems kind of unlikely.

Just simply because these are remakes of games that contained solid protagonists instead of off-the-bat customizable characters. I don't know, I pretty much feel like they will just redesign our protagonists and we'll have the same general ones as before.

Because we also had many stores scattered across Kalos for the purpose of stylizing our character. I don't think they're going to add a bunch of buildings that weren't in RSE originally just for this purpose. It just doesn't seem like it would really cater to the nostalgia factor anymore if you change too much.

If they're going to have customization again (which is very likely), it'll probably show up in our 'third' X&Y game and the gens to follow instead. It just doesn't sit right with me to think of customization being in a remake.

sh1nyzorua June 2nd, 2014 7:59 AM

I agree with others about having a colour-slider. In X and Y I was SUPER picky about the clothes my characters wore because not everything that was yellow was the same shade of yellow, seriously. For me it's gotta colour-coordinate or it's a no-go.
I also want glasses! Please!
For the girls, there needs to be more tomboyish clothes like hoodies and messenger bags. I mean, the lolita-ish clothes were super cute but I wouldn't want to get those pretty dresses dirty during a battle?

Pepperton June 2nd, 2014 8:35 AM

They should make some clothes available in different towns that describe the culture of the area, like a nature-themed outfit in Fortree City's clothing store, or a swimsuit in Slateport City! They could also make it mandatory for certain clothing to be bought in order to venture into places to lower weather hazards; for example, in the desert!

HaloSonic June 2nd, 2014 10:23 AM

first off, I'd like the most logical thing. the ability to CHANGE CLOTHES IN YOUR OWN BEDROOM.
secondly, the guys didn't get many clothes/hairstyle options, which sucks, and they also need to bring more options to make the character look more like an adult for us older players. the super expensive clothes at the end of the game were kind of cool, but were only one style in different colors.
thirdly, The characters need to be able to wear the shades/glasses they have in their hats, as well as have the option of NOT wearing a hat.
also, legacy clothes from other previous player characters would also be greatly appreciated.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 2nd, 2014 2:52 PM

I hope that they'll have sandles as a footwear option. In XY we didn't get more then Boots and Sneakers, and even then it wasn't much...

I would prefer it if this never happened. It would be a pain to have to go back and change your outfit just because you want (or even need) to go into a certain area. Clothes are essentially an extra in XY; they're just for fun, so it would suck if they became part of the story for no reason.

I like it when they did that sort of thing in XY. Cyllage City had sports attire, Snowbelle City had winter attire, etc.

ggctuk June 5th, 2014 12:21 PM

I'd expect there to be the ability to change between the Classic RS and Emerald outfits at the very least. Perhaps add in some additional clothes based off FRLG as bonuses that you can buy at the Battle Frontier or something. It'd also be cool to alter the colour of each item, yes.

Here's another idea: an "Outfits" tab.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 5th, 2014 12:33 PM

I'll like it if there was a badass tench coat we could buy going to/after becoming champion.

I mean, that's true, but it would add some realism to the games. Not that realism is a relevant or even desired aspect in the development of Pokemon at any point, but I personally appreciate it when this at least a bit, and something like this would be easy to implement. Maybe if they put a clothing store closer to places where you would need to change outfits for easy access, it would work. o:

In HGSS they gave your character the opportunity to wear a TR uniform for the sake of a photograph and to enter the Radio Tower, so if customization returns I think there's no excuse for Magma and Aqua uniforms to not be included! It's something I really, really hope happens!

lloebet June 5th, 2014 9:07 PM

Going to a different tangent here, Gamefreak doesn't have a very large history when it comes to games with a lot of customization or letting things go in the players hands. It's always been them laying down a path and having us walk it. Now this isn't bad obviously, as long as you do it right; So, I guess the point is you shouldn't expect too much of that from them RIGHT off the bat.

Salzorrah June 5th, 2014 11:34 PM

I'm really looking forward to see customization being a mandatory thing in the storyline! Yeah, I am seriously imagining you wearing Team Aqua or Magma uniforms or something! :33

That's because roller skating sandals don't exist in real life, so it makes little sense to have sandals as a footwear option. The only way for sandals and flip flops to be available is if rolling skating is absent in ORAS.

I forgot about that. I guess it could be an option which doesn't allow us to roller blade. It may be helpful for those who hate to use the control pad and prefer to use the joystick but don't like the speed of Rollerblading. It's also possible that rollerskates may not come back.

Altairis June 6th, 2014 6:58 PM

I don't think we will get Rollerblades. Hoenn has a lack of roads on most routes, while in Kalos there was usually a paved road connecting each town. It wouldn't really make sense to rollerblade through grass.

Salzorrah June 6th, 2014 11:41 PM

I really hope we dont get rollerblades this time around. If they did return it, atleast make them removable. Maybe the Circle Pad could be used for Running Shoes or maybe for the Bikes? And I agree with Altairis with Hoenn being not as urban as Kalos is. Imagine getting stuck using rollerblades in Route 119. Scary, dont you think?

Pokemanz June 7th, 2014 8:41 AM

The new Brendan and May look decent, I'm hoping they add customization so that we can change their clothes and possibly take Brendan's hat off.. just to see what his hair really looks like.

MarinoKadame June 7th, 2014 9:36 AM

I do hope we will be able to chose the color of your clothes instead of getting limited color like in X/Y.

His hair probably looks like Ruby's. Btw anyone noticed how both Red and Brendan's hair in their remake art is browner compared to the originals when their hair could be considered Black.

I think that their redesigns hint at customization as their eyes are grey when in the original they were brown. I hope so as I don't like the grey eyes on them. So I hope that we get to pick their eye color and get the contacts at a later route.

It would be nice if could change the shape of the eyes too.

I hope we get the clothes they used in RSE back into the game also. Although I like their designs, it is kinda weird to see them not in their RSE forms xD

Itcheeee June 8th, 2014 1:24 PM

I do hope this comes back, hopefully including outfit pieces nostalgic of May/Brendon's original and Emerald outfits. Maybe some more Pokemon themed clothing this time too :P

If clothing was part of the story like swimwear for diving, most likely it would auto switch for you.

^This. It would be the only thing that would have this game from being an aesthetic disaster like BW2, but for the love of nostalgia I hope the old outfits are at least an option and colourable, that would make my day.

Yeah...the look with the smile can be creepy. Or at least they should have a mood thing where the player will show the mood "you're in" for the day.
