Maps not connecting properly

So I wanted to make a route from my new town. At first, it was linked fine. Then I went ahead and deleted all of the scripts and events, etc and finished the map. However, now when I try to go to that map, the tiles next to it are all scrambled up and I can't walk over. I believe I had this problem with my first map too, but I'm not sure how I fixed it.

The movement permissions are all set, and the areas are linked properly as well. Can anyone help me with this weird problem I'm having? Perhaps I need a certain event on each map...? (I am using Advance Map!)

Thank you :)

Does the game feeze or is it simply just disallowing you to step over the tiles?
Inserted any new tilesets?

Lynker May 10th, 2014 6:46 AM

They're all just a bunch of tiles that I didn't put down, and can't walk over. The game is still playable. I have not entered any new tilesets. (I would post a picture, but I'm not at 15 posts yet).

Haha yeah I was about to ask whether or not you could.
Uhm, not sure if this is an accurate solution to your problem, or related in any way, but perhaps its movement permissions of the two maps crashing. If you go to A-map 1.95 there is a preview option when looking at map connections. So what I realized when encountering a similiar problem is that you have to perfectly line up the maps ''from both sides''... this will be difficult to explain. So, when you select a map, you get a preview for up, down, left or right, alligning e.g. the left map with the map you are ''coming from'' does not necessarily mean they are alligned the other way around. So what you wanna do is to see the map connections from both maps ''point of view.'' Damn I have no idea how to explain this. Setting the connection for one map does not mirror on the other.

I hope you somewhat understood what I mean... I just woke up, lacking coffee. :8:

I made sure the maps connected properly before I finished the second one, though. I made sure by making a partial road to the route, and it lined up correctly. So I started building. But now it's just a huge jumble of random tiles!

I'll try to find that preview option though. Thank you!

Edit: I have Advance Map 0.9...is mine very outdated? :P

I wish I could help you further, but I guess I don't know where the problem lies.
A-map 1.92 is the ''safe'' one to use, and the one most people prefer as far as I've understood.
I like the features of 1.95 which is the newest version. It is said it can cause some bugs though (which I have yet to encounter).

I downloaded Advance Map 1.92. Where is the preview option?

Edit: Apparently I already had 1.92? Okay then.

1.95 has the preview option. In 1.95 it shows up automaticly when opening the connection options. There should also be a tiny box on the left in the menu where you can tick preview on and off.

Alright, I downloaded 1.95 and the maps ARE connected properly. I'm afraid to use 1.95 instead of the one I'm using now, though. Should I make the change or no?

Any ideas what I should do? :(

For the freeze problem, someone more experienced than myself will have to step in and take over this troubleshoot. {XD}

For the A-map, if you want to feel safe 'bout it, stick to 1.92. Personally, I use 1.95 most of the time. There is no problem using them both simultaniously, and only open 1.95 when you need a speicific feature of that release.

Good luck with your issue! Someone will probably help you solve this very soon.

Thank you. This is annoying, because I can't even see how my maps work so far. :(

It's hard to tell without a picture - but your jumbled tiles may be where your maps have different tilesets.

At meeting points between maps you need to pick 'common' tiles (trees/pokecenter/etc. - the first half of your tiles) otherwise they can glitch. Often special buildings are in the secondary tileset, below the black line.

(Of course, post a picture as soon as possible if this isn't the case XD)

Lynker May 10th, 2014 8:48 AM

Well, I made the route have the exact same tileset as the town, and the tiles used to connect are the same too. I'll be able to post a picture very soon though.

Edit: Here is what the map shows in-game:

And here are the maps in the editor:

I may have found my problem!

Does this mean my map's dimensions aren't dividable by four, and because of this it won't show up in the game correctly? Please, does anyone have any idea?

Edit: Making the map divisible by 2 fixed the problem! Woohoo!

I've found that Emerald can be a bit weird with having odd numbered dimensions. Just make sure everything is even from now on and you're golden!
