Hack of the Month Voting - May 2014

Hack of the Month Voting - May 2014

We pick, you choose. Participate in polls every month to decide the best hack of that month!

Introduction

Seeing as there are plenty of great hacks around the forums, we've decided to re-introduce the Hack of the Month contest. ROM Hacking moderators will pick three hacks each month, and you members will have until the next month to vote for your Hack of the Month. The winner hack's thread will be stickied for a month, until the next month's winner is announced. Only hacks in the Progressing Hacks forum are eligible for nomination. You may suggest hacks you'd like to see in the following month's contest in this thread.

Eligible Hacks

Pokémon: Discovery by Le pug

Pokémon Ruby Destiny - Broken Timeline by destinedjagold

Pokémon Platinum: Red and Blue by gogojjtech

Rules

You may only vote once per month.
Asking or bribing others to vote for your hack is not allowed.
Creating new accounts to vote multiple times is not allowed and will be dealt with accordingly.
Voting is done via the poll not by posting in this thread, votes in the form of posts will not be counted.
Don't complain that your hack was not chosen this month.

Granddaddy Purp May 10th, 2014 9:52 AM

definitly suggesting normal version.

ChrisTheWhiteWolf May 10th, 2014 11:56 AM

Me too.
Especially now that it's getting a ''full region'' beta.

DarkRisingGirl May 10th, 2014 4:50 PM

The hack of the month is based only on visuals/features/interest?

Because I don't understand how people can vote for the hacks you've chosen this month when none of them have any sort of playable alphas or betas available yet. All three of them look great, but people can't judge or pick a favorite when they have no hands-on experience with them.

Edit: I agree with the two above. If this hack of the month thing does continue, Normal Version should be on next month's picks.

The main aim of Hack of the Month is to drive more attention to hacks in the Progressing Hacks section, most of which don't have any releases. We hope this will encourage people to work more on their hacks and actually get them released.

Hacks with releases aren't as common, and we'd eventually run out of hacks for this if we were to only have hacks with playable releases available for voting in this contest. Hack of the Year is much more fitting for finished hacks or hacks with a lot of progress anyway.

Lynker May 10th, 2014 5:10 PM

I voted for Pokemon: Discovery. It just makes me want to play more! I love the different idea of using ships and a sailor life storyline. I can't wait to play this one the most!

Pokémon Ruby Destiny - Broken Timeline: This one is interesting as well. Aside from the custom graphics, it seems like quite the ride. Nice job!

Pokémon Platinum: Red and Blue: My least favorite of the three. I'm not a huge fan of the DPPl graphics. Aside from that, its seems pretty good with the Sinnoh Pokemon! Good job as well!

I'm excited to see these hacks continue. Good luck, everyone!

Shadowraze May 10th, 2014 5:21 PM

I would go for Ruby Destiny in this one.

I should also say that Normal should be in the list imo.

KeyRogue May 10th, 2014 5:50 PM

I vote for platinum red & blue, since 4th gen is no.1 on my list

Syndrome10 May 11th, 2014 1:05 AM

Platinum Red and Blue, because it has a lot of features, that other hacks don't have. Such as custom evolution methods, custom Pokéballs, Formes and all.

adipasa May 11th, 2014 1:30 AM

I Vote Pokemon Platinum Red & Blue, because it has a great feature and it look's like a real demake

Satoshi Ookami May 11th, 2014 10:10 AM

Ruby Destiny. Because... it's Ruby Destiny.

Sniper May 11th, 2014 5:21 PM

Voted. But yeah, normal version should've been here XD

Le pug May 11th, 2014 10:17 PM

Interesting. So if you win, are you eligible for next months contest (and so on)? On that note, are the losers eligible for next months contest?

destinedjagold May 11th, 2014 10:30 PM

When it comes to graphical appeal, I obviously will NOT stand a chance. :P

If you win you're not eligible again but you do gain an advantage in one of the Hack of the Year rounds. If you lose you are still eligible for future contests but we'll try not to put a hack up twice in a row.

ericu01 May 12th, 2014 6:28 AM

Would be nice if there is Normal Version. Though it has a beta released already, the hack is worth noting and needed boosted support. Maybe next month I hope significant entries will be picked to be voted for.

lol we don't have a chance at all to a platinum demake and your graphics are way better than mine from those pics. but hey its all just clean fun

Tcoppy May 12th, 2014 9:24 AM

I think everyone should remember here that even if you don't win HOTM it's not the end of the world. In all honesty, it's going to push you to strive harder. Also, to whoever makes all these hacks, me working for Discovery, I can see if this type of stuff will get you stressed but quite frankly, I don't care. All that matters is if you have a passion to hack and enjoy rom hacking. That is all.
Good luck to Destinedjagold and Gogojjtech, it's been an honor competing along side both of you for the HOTM of May. :)

GoGoJJTech May 12th, 2014 11:43 AM

All this friendly competition is quite enjoyable :D
Discovery has a great story and a great team
Ruby Destiny also has a great story, and it also has a huge following from the other 3 (which were incredibly written)

Although we're all in small stages right now, I can see these 4 hacks going very far. Much like how Light Platinum and Flora Sky, along with Normal Version had gone incredibly huge from small beginnings. Best of luck to you guys :D

Tyranitar Killer May 12th, 2014 11:23 PM

This is hard noting 2 of these will easily HOTY but none have been released yet, while i love these hacks why are all the voting options non released

See my reply to DarkRisingGirl's post.

Mydrago May 13th, 2014 11:59 AM

Ruby Destiny ;)
Because i like game style
The Tiles Maps Story etc...
Good luck with the Contest Le Pug,DJG,Gogojitech! :D

dhogan May 14th, 2014 9:43 PM

I voted for Pokemon Discovery, mainly because I'm expecting a fun, unique storyline. All three look incredible from what I have seen, and I am psyched to play all three.

As an aside, Pokemon Mega Power and Normal Version would be great choices for next month's HOTM.

Hiatus May 14th, 2014 10:00 PM

Broken Timeline's got a pretty interesting story, and judging from all of Jagold's previous hacks, I'm sure he has some very fun and engaging scripts in there. Platinum: Red and Blue—I love how much effort Gogo's put in. Some people hasn't been able to play Platinum, with few of them not having ability to run a good DS emulator on their computer; for those people, they would finally get to have a taste of generation four. Personally, though, my favorite of the three has gotta be Pokémon Discovery. This hack's got it all, from characters and graphics, all the way to events. Due to that, Discovery gets my vote. :] Definitely going to give it a shot once beta is released.

heydudeitsmeblastoise May 15th, 2014 11:58 PM

but platinum red and blue haven't released the first beta yet....

I have it planned but no set date. See, I can't tell the future. Me and FUTURE SIGHT aren't compatible. But a playable alpha is bound to happen soon.

Ttar0914 May 17th, 2014 2:18 AM

I voted for Platinum Red & Blue, because I like the idea of doing a full platinum demake (PT Red) and using the sinnoh region with additional extras (PT Blue).

sigh.... i really can't wait for it, i hope that its good as i expected

AtecainCorp. May 18th, 2014 5:15 AM

I vote for Pokemon Platinum Red and Blue.

esperance May 19th, 2014 4:08 PM

I voted for Pokemon: Discovery.
I love what I've been seeing from it.

Nothing wrong with either of the others, but Discovery appeals the most to me.

FAARSAL May 21st, 2014 6:29 AM

My Vote goes to Pokémon Platinum: Red and Blue by gogojjtech, because he really worked hard and it's a superb DEMAKE

Avara May 23rd, 2014 6:00 AM

It was hard for me to pick between RD and Discovery but I went with Ruby Destiny in the end purely because I've enjoyed the others so much and can see Broken Timeline being great too, though Pokémon Discovery also looks like it's coming along amazingly well and has quite a unique story - looking forward to seeing more of it! I'm personally not the biggest fan of remakes or demakes normally, but still have to say say Platinum Red/Blue is/are looking very professional as well. The creators of all three hacks each seem like nice people and very talented hackers who've worked hard on their projects, so I don't really mind who wins. Good luck to all of you! =)

Yeah I have a demake and a sequel up against me haha so the odds are slim but the fact I'm able to be in the first returning HoTM with them is an honor even if I lose! Nice to see supporters out there.

Blazikong May 24th, 2014 9:51 AM

PokemonPlatinum red and blue would be my vote. Its amazing that someone has put in the effort to remake the game onto GBA.

Le pug May 31st, 2014 12:14 PM

So when is the voting officially closed and the winner announced and the prize awarded? Today or tomorrow?

Also, just a personal suggestion (I know a few others thought it too) but even though you hyperlink the titles, some peeps aren't gonna see that and just vote based off of imagery. I recommend adding a short plot summary to each hack and also allowing the hack creators to choose their 3 pictures in advance.

The winner is announced soon after the poll closes. I might consider adding a short summary/introduction for each hack, but if some people vote based off the images instead of looking at the threads separately, I don't think a short plot summary would make much of a difference. Also, if anyone wants their 3 screenshots changed can just message me and ask, I believe it's much quicker and easier than what you're suggesting.

blue June 1st, 2014 10:28 AM

My vote has to go to Pokémon Platinum: Red and Blue. As good as the other two entries look, I've been keeping watch on this project for quite some time now and I'm really impressed by everything that GoGoJJTech has achieved so far.

Le pug June 1st, 2014 1:42 PM

I wonder who this month's 3 hacks will be :O nominate fae, gaia, and twisted mind!

That'd be a tough competition

Nex June 2nd, 2014 4:26 AM

How about nominating pokemon girantina legend?

First of all if you had read the other posts, Spheal said that he wants to have the competition between hacks that don't have any releases. Plus Girantina hasn't been updated in 2014 so it's not even eligible I'd imagine.

Giratina's Legend by ~Andrea has been quite active recently and doesn't even have a release as far as I know.

Also, what I said was that either all three hacks up for voting will have a release or they won't, I think it's fairer that way.

Le pug June 3rd, 2014 2:49 PM

So uh.. June 3rd, when does the next competition starts? Dipping into next month's time, wondering why it wasn't started when last one was secured. Now if we have a tie for first place on the last day we won't know who would've won with these extra three days!

Hack of the Month voting starts on the 10th of the month.

The thread will be kept open until the next one is posted, so that people can discuss or nominate other hacks.

Logan June 4th, 2014 3:18 AM

Hack of the Month has always started on the 10th of the month n_n

Spherical Ice June 5th, 2014 12:06 PM

I'd nominate Fae, definitely. Twisted Mind and Giratina's Legend both look very promising, too.

TheHaymaker June 6th, 2014 9:55 AM

Twisted Mind is definitely worthy of more attention and nomination, in my opinion. Love the concepts, and it looks very promising as a Fakemon hack. As a result, it would be my first pick for next month.

CosmicBlazer June 6th, 2014 11:03 AM

How about Normal version. That hack is very good as well or is this only for hacks in development?
