Steven MEGA-Stone!?
We (and the rest of Hoenn) all know this popular and strong trainer. We also know he likes his rocks/stones (Or are they minerals?)...
Id bet my last dollar on him being tied in with new mega forms (or at least mega stones). What do you think? I think the prospect of Mega-Metagross is very appealing (as it is his signature pokemon), but of course, he could be stuck with plain'ol Mega-Aggron instead. Discuss. |
That is an interesting theory actually. However, I have a feeling that Mega Evolutions won't be making an appearance in Hoenn.

Seeing Mega Evolution in Hoenn wouldn't make a lot of sense either. These are remakes of the original games, and given that the discovery of the Mega Stones in Kalos is such a major deal; it would be really odd to see them in Hoenn since there was absolutely no mention of them in R/S/E. The adventures in Hoenn are also supposed to be set around the same time as Red's adventure in Kanto. This would most likely place X&Y and Kalos further into the future. To me, the remakes will probably be based a few years before Mega Evolution was publicised, and thus I don't think that there will be much involvement of it in Hoenn. There's also the fact that there were no other Mega-Evolutions programmed into X&Y's data that we haven't discovered. So I'm going to rule out the possibility of Steven giving you a Mega Stone that can be traded back to X&Y. So I'm deducing that there won't be any more Mega Evolutions this generation given that it would make no sense for any to be in OR&AS, and there aren't any more in X&Y. That said, I believe that Steven would have "heard of" these new Mega Stones, and perhaps he's going to investigate them. I just doubt that there's going to be any new evolutions. New evolutions would also shake up the meta-game once again, and that's something GameFreak and Nintendo do twice a generation. Nor would it be wise to do so. |
I think they may retcon that. Or they could make a Hoenn version of Mega Evolution but call it something else but it still be the same thing.

As much as I know how people want to see more Mega Evolutions, especially since you have Steven researching stones and it is possible, it is a remake, so I don't see them returning. But I also feel that when you're remaking a game, something should be done to make that game stand out from the original and feel like its own game while still giving the feeling of the old one. I feel like HGSS did that perfectly, however FRLG did not. FRLG was too strict to its roots even with the addition of the island. The trading limitations and not allowing for evolutions added after gen I really hindered the game. So for what HGSS did in fixing those issues and taking things up a step, I think that it might actually be likely Hoenn will find a way to include Mega Evolution. Some Hoenn Pokemon already Mega Evolve. Who's to say Steven can't research or find a way to actually bring that to Hoenn? I wouldn't mind. It's a remake and while I want my traditional Hoenn, I want some new things from gen VI to keep it fresh and within the generation.

I'd be very surprised if mega evolution didn't appear in these games. Now they could be kept as post game content but they'll surely appear at some point.

They have to be in the game, new ones or not. I can't quite see how they'd pull off a battle between OR and X, for example, and not build support for Mega Evolutions in OR.
|
I imagine if they incorporate mega forms into certain character's team, they will be in rematches, as to keep the main part of the game along the lines of the original
|
They might not even include new mega stones, or Mega Evolution at all in these games. Anything could be possible at this point, as all we have is the boxart. But if it does make a return, me personally would LOVE to see a Mega Metagross. Similar to how Diantha's Gardevoir has a Mega-Evolution. If they don't though, they'd probably give him a Mega Aggron. I'm fine with that, but a Mega Metagross would be MUCH better!

Yes, with the FrLg/RSE timescale thing, in the Origins series, Red did get a megastone...
And I somehow think that mega-evos will appear in these games, it would be odd to not include them now they have released them. Its sorta like saying they wont have fairy type - because it wasnt "discovered" then. Would they just remove it from the game and then include it in games that occur after X/Y? I think not. They have made the decision to release megas and I think they have to stick with it from now on. I also think it would be a major let down to fans to NOT include new megas (or at least keep the ones they have) - as many are from Hoenn!! People will want to capture and raise those pokemon as they are native and available! (Mawile, Aggron, Banette , Blaziken, Absol, Gardevoir, Medicham etc...) |
Mega evolution will probably be included in the remakes. The "Mega Evolution is exclusive to Kalos" argument is bad, as it pretty much means that we will never see Mega Evolution ever again so why was it introduced in the first place? Mega Evolution also appeared in Pokemon Origins, which was set in Kanto.
Regi trios were sealed in Hoenn, but are captureable in Sinnoh and Unova too, idk about Kalos. They totally didn't disregard previous facts there right? |
For those thinking Megas will not return in these games. Ask yourself this,
Why would they not include Megas when most likely they are going to be compatible with on another, very much like 4th gen games were? How many times have they said a certain pokemon was exclusive to a region, yet we can catch it in other regions? Also, they would have to split tournaments up for the set of games. Why would they make Megas, if they didn't plan to make more in the future? They already said not all pokemon would get them right now, but some will be added later on. Why would they give us a Mega for Blaziken, but not Swampert or Sceptile. None of it makes since and is pretty stupid on their part if Megas did not return. |
14 out of all 28 Mega Evolving Pokemon are listed in the Hoenn Pokedex.
Not a Coincidence. :15: |
I definitely think the mega-evolutions could fit in with Steven's part in the story, but I feel like the consistency issues are kinda fighting this idea. People are talking about compatibility issues between XY and ORAS, but since when have we ever been able to battle between games. Mega-evolutions could easily be inaccessible if the Pokemon were holding the items within ORAS, or they could simply prevent any trades between XY and ORAS if a Pokemon was holding a mega stone. I definitely don't think that is any reason to keep mega evolutions in the game. I feel like the fact that so many of the mega-evolutions introduced were for Hoenn Pokemon works more towards suggesting their appearance within the remakes.
In the end, I'm pretty sure they'll appear within the ORAS remakes. If you think back to the FR/LG remakes, they did tie R/S into the game by making it part of the post-game, something that wasn't part of the originals. I believe they could easily do the same with ORAS, by tying Kalos to Hoenn in some way as part of an added on story that'd take place within the post-game :p |
Metagross is Steven's signature Pokémon, so if he were to have a Mega, it would definitely be Metagross. Yes, Mega Aggron already exists, but that is not his signature Pokémon. Even Steven's design is slightly based off of Metagross.
If he does receive a Mega Metagross, it would be cool if the Beldum he gives you comes holding a Metagrossite, similar to the Ralts Diantha trades to you holding a Gardevoirite. |
I was just thinking it would be cool if when regular trainers level up each time you rematch them, at the maximum level they get a mega evolution.
They should give gym leaders (at least from gym 3 maybe) mega evolutions too. |
Think about it - we already know of the existence of a Mega Latios and a Mega Latias, both legendaries that are found in the Hoenn region. We haven't heard a whisper of these from official Nintendo news, instead, we hear about new games that are based in the Pokemon's region! I think there's definitely a connection there.
Maybe they'll give the Mega [email protected] stones to XY players, but then they'll have to trade the Pokemon or stones over to one version to use them. |
didnt steven have something to do with the enigma stone/soul dew/[email protected] in HGSS???
maybe steven will have something to do with the lati mega stones?? |

I actually thought the same thing, Steven and that President from the Devon Corporation should have something to do with this, it would only be a logical explanation :)

@abnegation
The only problem with quoting a wiki is that it's up to date from things that have only been released.| So, when it says "only found in Kalos" it's because when it was typed in it was only found in Kalos. It's not really a good way to just rule out the possible existance of Megas in Hoenn. |

Sycamore explains his theory of how the Mega Stones came to be. During the great war when AZ fired off his doomsday weapon, the resulting energy corrupted the area, such as creating the ainstar sundial. The energy from the sundial was the same as the energy emitted by the Mega Stones, so he believes that they were created the same manner. So the mega stones were created by the energy of the weapon and since the weapon was only fired in Kalos, they'd be around Kalos. So while the Mega stones are native to Kalos, they can be given out in other regions. Like with HG/SS however where the Evolutionary items that weren't originally native to Johto despite there being many pokemon that could evolve with them in the Johto Pokedex, I agree that mega Stones will not play a major role in the ORAS story. They most likely will not be available until Post game to which we'll be given them or probably can buy them. Quote:
If they were to do something similar in ORAS, there's a high chance that this won't be until Post game since the Mega Stones weren't in the original games and remakes stay parallel to the original games. Even HG/SS only included the evolutions that weren't optional. Only new Pokemon that were added to the HG/SS Pokedex were the ones that evolved after learning a specific move that was natural to those Pokemon. For Pokemon that were location based, you had to trade those away to a game with those locations, which would again pass on into these remakes so even though Nospass is native to Hoenn, he can't evolve unless we trade him to XY and evolve him there and send him back. Mega Stones are part of the main series, like with evolutions, they'll reappear but it doesn't have to be during the main story. There is a good chance that they won't appear at all during the main story and only appear as something to collect Post game. |
