Ever Grande City.

The worst city in the world! :P Population 0, home to only a Pokemon Centre, Victory Road, and the Pokemon League.

The remakes are on the way, and have so much potential to make Ever Grande an actual city, full of features introduced in gen 4, 5 and 6!

What do you guys and gals think?

blue May 17th, 2014 2:13 AM

Good point! I'd like to see them expand so it can actually live up to the title of "city". There's plenty of room to expand and add a couple of houses and areas to catch different Pokémon.

LightningAlex May 17th, 2014 2:16 AM

There is potential, but I'm not sure anything will be done about it. So far, in all of the Pokemon games, the area where the Pokemon League is was extremely... empty (I'm not sure about gen 4 & B2/W2, haven't played through them). Gen 3 was the first one who was kind enough to give you a Pokemon center before the Victory Road.

So yeah, judging by the past, Ever Grande City won't evolve at all. Why they call it a city is beyond me, though. Perhaps they'll rename it to "Ever Grande Island"?

Sabrewulf238 May 17th, 2014 3:44 AM

Out of all the locations in Hoenn, Ever Grande City is the one place I wouldn't mind them giving a complete overhaul.

You couldn't even call it a village let alone a city.

Salzorrah May 17th, 2014 3:45 AM

> City
> Only Buildings are Pokemon Center and E4 Building

I disgress :(

I wish Ever Grande becomes a lush verdant city filled with flowers and nice people :( Kinda bare not having any people live there.

Taemin May 17th, 2014 4:56 AM

They could add a little bit to it, and that would be neat, but if they make it too amusing I'd probably be like "Man, screw the Pokemon League, I'm just gonna chill here -w-".

Usually the pathways leading up to the E4 are always pretty repetitive, and just meant to look neat for the time it takes to run through them. Sooo, I dunno if I could see them adding too much to it, but it would be cool to give a bit more life since it is a "city", and not "Ever Grande Path".

Altius May 17th, 2014 5:00 AM

I wish they'll just rename Ever Grande as Pokemon League if they decide to keep it that way.

Handsome Samurott May 17th, 2014 6:10 AM

Not that they would do this, but I'd love for them to make Ever Grande City the largest, most beautiful, and most diverse city in Hoenn, if not the whole Pokemon universe. That would be kinda cool. But obviously it isn't going to happen.

Origin Green May 17th, 2014 6:31 AM

Gamefreak HQ, 2002:
"Hurry up we need to get the game ready for release!"
"Sir, the last city is unfinished!"
"Forget about that! Just put flowers everywhere and add a Pokemon centre! Nobody will notice!"

And thus Ever Grande was born ;)

Pepperton May 17th, 2014 8:05 AM

Ever Grande City puzzled me. The name was misleading, as it ended up only containing one building with a Pokemon center. Not much that would qualify it to be called a 'city', in my opinion. Nevertheless, they could add a few houses and buildings to warrant the name, which I think would be best. Even though there wasn't too much in it, Ever Grande was a pretty map.

Sabrewulf238 May 17th, 2014 11:44 AM

Was Ever Grande city depicted as an actual city in the anime?

Altairis May 17th, 2014 1:03 PM

I don't think that they should do anything with it. There isn't SUPPOSED to be anyone up there - only those who have 8 badges and have gone through Victory Road are supposed to be allowed up there. There aren't supposed to be a ton of people who have done all of that, so it makes sense it's pretty barren.

Nurse Joy May 17th, 2014 1:32 PM

They should turn it into a beautiful garden filled with flowers and fountains and windmills and the sea! And you'd walk along the worn brick path through dense, brightly coloured foliage until you arrived at the Pokemon League which looks like a giant temple covered in moss and marred with age.....

But it'd be interesting if there were people there! That'd be kind of neat. Like, in the anime, there are always lots of people around and watching the Pokemon Leagues, so there's nothing wrong with making Ever Grande a city!

While what you've said about being there is a very good point it still doesn't make sense why it is called Ever Grande CITY...

Like someone said earlier, Ever Grande Island would have made a lot more sense.

Hiatus May 17th, 2014 1:46 PM

Haha, I had no idea it had no actual population. xD" Well, it does have people in Victory Road and Pokémon Center, but I'm sure they don't reside here; they might just be some visitors.

Personally, I'd really like them to expand this place as much as they possibly could. When you hear "Ever Grande," you eventually start to think of like Los Angeles, but in RSE, that isn't exactly the case. Hope they change it up in ORAS, and begin adding more pizazz. Anything would do; buildings, houses, shops, you name it!

Well it's not much of a city without inhabitants.

Besides, it's not like you have to go through victory road to get to it, and there isn't a gym badge gate before the city. There's no compelling reason why it couldn't be populated.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire May 17th, 2014 3:35 PM

I've always hoped since arriving in EverGrande City that they'll actually make a future league into a real city...fast forward three generations and none of that has happened
:(

I hope they could add something there, even if they're only small shops and the like. Maybe they could add in a Villa we can own post game :)

Candy May 17th, 2014 7:44 PM

Great, now I have Hoenn's Victory Road theme playing in my head.

But yeah, I'd expect Ever Grande CITY to actually be a CITY and not just a Pokemon Center, the Victory Road and a tall tower aka. the Pokemon League. Hopefully it'll be spiced up a bit in ORAS.

Ooh, this is a rather good idea. :O

bobandbill May 17th, 2014 7:53 PM

To be fair, this is a complaint you can apply to many places in Pokémon. And the League just never has been shown with houses or buildings outside those relevant to the player. I would like to have seen more to it than the centre and mart and league (and do want to see too in the remakes), but I guess it was never necessary from the programmer's view. Kinda why towns have at most a few houses, while in real life you get thousands. Only so much you can put in, and it has to add something to the game or setting in doing so. A few other houses won't do it justice, and a full-blown city would seem odd now given it's distracting from the main purpose, the final challenge of the game.

Yato May 17th, 2014 8:02 PM

Technically it does have inhabitants since there's at least the nurse in the Pokemon Center (can't remember if there were other NPCs there), but anyway. I do feel like there could be more to the city. Heck, even some backstory that tells how Ever Grande was once a large, populous city only for something to happen to it to make it how it is now would be good enough for me, though I doubt that would ever happen. It gaining small shops and/or a few extra NPCs or being renamed to something more fitting seems most plausible.

PlatinumDude May 18th, 2014 9:24 PM

Going with what some people said, I'm hoping that Ever Grande will have some houses near Victory Road's entrance. It was actually bare in R/S/E.

Actually the only inhabitants in Ever Grande are the Nurse Joys in both the entrance the the E4 building, the PokeMart Clerk in the E4, and the E4 themselves coz all of the other NPCs inside Ever Grande are just Trainers training for the E4.

Elaitenstile May 21st, 2014 3:13 AM

Ever Grande City was a city with loads potential and was ruined in one flash because they just wanted to name the Pokémon League island something. Like Indigo Plateau, if you may. It should have been Ever Grande Plateau, but realise that a city isn't what GF had in mind. And they were just softening to the idea of a totally new region thing. Johto shares it's league with Kanto, yeah. I won't see it being much different, but there are definitely going to be a house or two in front of the Victory Road. Nothing special, maybe a TM or a tutor, but that's it.

Sheep May 21st, 2014 4:48 PM

I've always seen Ever Grande City as potential to be a tourist spot.. and any other E4 city for that matter. I mean, it's home to the Elite Four and Champion; surely it shouldn't be as deserted as it was. I'd like to see it turned into a more bustling area or at least expanded on somewhat in OR/AS. Won't get my hopes up though, all I can see happening are the addition of some extra NPC houses but those aren't much better than it being empty. :(
