The leveling in the remakes
I noticed that XY are a lot easier than RSE. RSE had few pokemon to train off, and levels went up drastically. Do you think that they will lower the difficulty to XY or BW difficulty, or keep it high levels like in the originals? What do you think they will choose, and which one do you want them to choose?
|
I understand Game Freak wants the games to be easier since people these days live much busier lives than before and don't have the time to sink as many hours into a difficult game, but I really want some sort of challenge to the games--XY were the easiest games so far, and I was very disappointed by that.
So I really hope ORAS has difficulty levels. Ones that can be chosen before the game begins, and can be changed while you play, perhaps in the Pokémon Centers? That seems like the best compromise, working both for people who want to breeze through the games, and for people who want to challenge themselves. |

I think that they will make it a little easier. Ruby and Sapphire weren't hard to begin with, so I think that it won't be changed that much. Although, it seems that Game Freak is trying to pertain their games to kid even more than they used to, so we may see something like the EXP Share early on like in Pokemon XY. As long as the game isn't boringly easy, then I am fine with it.

I can see them making it easier , but hopefully not by that much. The level range in RSE was really good imo and that's one thing that made them fun because the Pokemon were at lot higher levels in RSE than in GSC. Johto was very easy because the Pokemon were at such weak levels. Same thing as XY to an extent. I hope ORAS is somewhere in the middle between the originals and X and Y. Being able to choose the difficulty woukd be great too because as someone who's played the games for 15 years, I'm looking for a challenge.

I would wager it will be easier. I honestly can't get why GameFreak hasn't implemented difficulty settings for all the newer games. Just stick it at the beginning and you're fine.
Honestly though, I would love for them to take some hints from Square Enix's The World Ends With You where you had a difficulty slider you could change at any time. It'd make playing a better experience for a few reasons. If it was made so that rarer Pokemon become more common at higher difficultly levels it would make completing the Pokedex less of a chore and more of a challenge. If at any point you feel overwhelmed rather than being forced to grind you can simply bring the scale down, though it would probably come at the price of diversity and less money earned. I will say that I don't expect the feature to be present in these games. It might be one of those things they keep for the 'extra' game in the generation. Which would be stupid. |
Ugh, one thing which I liked about RSE was the difficulty. I'd prefer it to be more difficult actually, but I don't see that happening. However, due to mega evolutions and the new EXP share mechanism, I can see them leveling up some trainers.
My predictions on the levels: Roxanne Lv16, Brawly Lv20, Wattson Lv25, Flannery Lv31, Norman Lv34, Winona Lv40, Tate & Liza Lv45, Wallace Lv50, E4 at around Lv58, Steven at Lv62. |
I'm okay with the levels and such. I do hope they kinda bring back RSE since I find levelling them up is a tad more rewarding than in XY.

Im crossing my fingers for a decent challenge out of this one, like i mean, this one's is for the fans. This is a great way to introduce this gen to the kiddies and be a fan service to us. Im trying to see it as a RSE junkie(replayed my copies over 100 times in total) and not as a numbers guy. If i was GF, i would make it easier, so i can make cash. I just hope that's not the case with this one...

I have high hopes they will rid things like Audino and Exp Share, and maybe take down the ease of leveling by a couple notches.
Because that's some serious leveling hax right there, and it just makes things way too easy. I love Audino and the Exp Share, but it's so annoying how quickly everyone beats their games. Some people chose to keep the Exp Share off knowing it'd be too easy, and they still found their level skyrocketing without any issue. If you ask me, the Exp Share should have been kept the way it was before - assisting one Pokemon instead of the whole team. It just sucks that this game is aimed for children, because then they end up feeling like they have to put cheats up in here. :I |
The growth curve, technically, remains unchanged and that might be all that matters tbqh. RSE had fair amounts of levelling and decent crunchspots although in the water cities it was near impossible to train because of the unpredictability of the water and the tedious fishing. If fishing was easy, then Wailmer would have been a perfect source of exp (thus living up to the name of Wailmer Watching!)
BW's new exp mechanics combined with X&Y's op exp share is something to think about here. I'm quite fine with the new mechanics, but I just hope we only get the new exp share postgame because although it takes the challenge out of training, it's a real boon for the competitive players. Plus, Pokémon like Steven's Beldum would be infinitely easier to train because of this. |
I think it might end up being somewhere in the middle.
Your pokemon will probably level as quickly as XY but it'll be offset somewhat by the leaps in enemy levels and the natural difficulty of the region. I don't see why they can't implement difficulty levels, the pokemon games are crying out for some proper plain ol difficulty settings. No "unlocking keys" or any of that nonsense. |

I actually really appreciated the things they've done over the years to ease the grinding that can sometimes be necessary. Sure, it makes the game challenging, but there's a point where if there isn't a simple way to bring your Pokemon to the level they need to be, it gets quite frustrating. Audino and the new EXP Share mechanic are both extremely useful, so I hope the latter returns in ORAS, and the former possibly available post-game.
|
I realllyyy hope they keep RSE's levels as they were, but I have a suspicion that they won't :x I would be really glad if they did! Or put a Challenge mode on there for us who have played the games before. <3 I think they might do something like that, since they recognize that these games are remakes and will be a second playthrough for many Pokemon fans.

> Turn on EXP Share > Profit. I agree with you, they make levelling Pokemon to 100 ezpz haha I hope they actually make it harder again. I remember spamming rare candies on my Pokemon on an emulator ;; I was so meen and cheaty then ;; |
I hope its not too easy... But I also know we will all play and love it no matter what they do.

Personally, I hate level grinding in any Pokemon game ever. It takes too much time and I'd rather focus on the storyline that training. It's so boring. When I played BW and B2W2, training took forever and I hated it, but I couldn't just run through with one Pokemon like I usually would because that was too hard. What I want Gamefreak to do is have in-game cheats that you can turn on/off, which would work for me because I rarely play Pokemon Games fairly. It takes way too much time and I am way too busy.
