Selector Infected WIXOSS

Selector Infected Wixoss
WIXOSS is a card game that's popular with teenagers. Supposedly there exist "LRIG Cards," female character cards with wills of their own. Special girls can hear the voices of the LRIGs, and those who possess them are called Selectors. These Selectors have card battles in a dimension that other humans cannot access. It's said that whoever triumphs in these battles will have their wish granted. Ruko Kominato is the latest girl to find an LRIG card. She names her card Tama, and without any further explanation is thrown into her life as a Selector. (Source)

Anyone watching this?
i suck at css lol

Akiba May 26th, 2014 9:59 PM

The art is a little different. But I like it. The story is compelling, and not really what you'd expect.

gimmepie May 27th, 2014 4:02 AM

I intend to watch this, it's quite intriguing. It seems like a fairly dark twist on a familiar, and typically light-hearted, genre.
I really like the art style myself actually xD

Satoshi Ookami May 27th, 2014 9:39 AM

It's edgy as ♥♥♥♥... I didn't expect that o.O
But I actually still like it... could be in TOP 10 this season.
I checked the rules for actual game and... wow... it's even more complicated than YGO o.O

And... every J.C. Staff anime that isn't adaptation is quality =D

gimmepie May 27th, 2014 10:10 AM

I'm about to watch the second episode and already it has that same feel as Madoka does. It seems fairly cute and clean cut to begin with, but I just know it's going to get really dark and edgy as it goes on.

The name and Satoshi's comments pretty much confirm it xD

Altairis May 27th, 2014 2:04 PM

Yeah, it gets kinda messed up as Madoka did. Episode 8 left us with a pretty big cliffhanger, and the next episode is called "The Cruel Truth" sooo I'm excited to see what will be revealed!

Oh, also did you guys know they already planned to have a second season?

Akiba May 27th, 2014 3:39 PM

This anime has so much Madoka in it.

Which is good. But then again, I expected something like Yu-Gi-Oh or Bakugan.

Don't misunderstand. It's not that I watched them or anything.

/tsundere

Palamon May 27th, 2014 4:49 PM

Yup. Pala is watching this EVIL anime.

Episode eight shows how truly evil this anime is. I love it, and basically... NO MY PRECIOUS CHILDREN RUKO, YUZUKI, HITOE AND AKIRA AREN'T DOING WELL!!

I love this anime, it's the epitome of messed up.

Altairis May 27th, 2014 9:02 PM

Omg wow guys I am so dumb
Spoiler:
Yuzuki and Hanayo probably switched places. LRIG is GIRL spelled backwards, I never noticed, haha (I knew something was off about the name LRIG!). Someone in the MAL discussion thread said this, which I thought was interesting:
Quote:

Mugen-Shoujo (Eternal Girl): Mugen has several kanji letters and their each meanings. And in ordinary sense for the native speakers, the sound of Mugen-Shoujo gives to me the impression that the girl is forced to do something again and again, forever...

Negai wo Kanaeru Jibun ni Naru: As for the explanation about Mugen-Shoujo, speaking strictly, it doesn't mean that the girl will have her wish granted in JP language. It means that the girl will become herself who can have the wish granted ... or ...it means someone will become her(self) who can have the wish granted. The explanation has no subject word.
Wow, I watched a sub version where they said "you will become the person who can make wishes come true" and I assumed that it was just a bad English translation, but dang that's pretty ♥♥♥♥ed up lol. The LRIGs never tell the girls anything because maybe they want to be human again!

This might explain why Midoriko's soul kinda drifted upwards once Hitoe lost. I was really confused since not everyone could see the LRIGs, that meant that they weren't 100% "real" (dunno how else to describe o.o) so I was curious as to why it seemed to be departing from this world. However, if Midoriko was officially human before, then it could be the human's soul. :3 However, if Midoriko knew that it would die after Hitoe lost, why didn't they tell her beforehand?

However, I'm a bit curious. How come Yuzuki mostly looks like herself, while all the other LRIGs we have seen look more like cartoon characters with the colored hair and crazy outfits? Compared to them, Yuzuki looks relatively normal. Also, how come Akira could remember everything after she lost 3x?

Oh... so we won't get much in the first season :/ Damn... I wanted this to finish :/

Whenever I read that someone didn't get it immediately, I praise my seiyuu knowledge =D
I probably wouldn't get it as well had I not known that the voice wasn't Ayane Sakura =D

Oh, this actually makes sense... I was too concerned about its Japanese spelling =D

First thing I thought of when she started talking.

Spoiler:
Could have to do something with reserve wish... you would have more destroyed life if you knew it was your own incompetence that did it.

gimmepie May 28th, 2014 10:41 AM

Well I'm all caught up now. This is so fantastically messed up ^_^

Spoiler:

I too, am very confused about Akira keeping her memories after her third loss. Perhaps retaining memory of her failure has something to do with her tainted wish though?

I noticed the LRIG thing, but I was still surprised when Yuzuki ended up as one.

Altairis May 28th, 2014 4:03 PM

Yeah, I think that does make sense.
Spoiler:
Hitoe's losses are more devastating because she can NEVER interact with anyone ever again and she doesn't know why. She will instinctively stay away from people and would have probably been actually forever alone. =/ It's scarier because she doesn't know why she can't connect with anyone anymore. However, if Akira lost her memories she would probably forget about being a model somewhat, and would probably be able to say she quit the industry due to an accident resulting in her scar. But I feel like if she remembers then it's her loss is more devastating; because maybe since she wished Iona's career would, maybe in return she can never have a career again? If she lost her memories the scar wouldn't have the significance it does now.

Wait, the VAs changed? Dang, I didn't even notice lol.

edit
Spoiler:
I watched ep 8 again, and at the end of Yuzuki's battle looks like she's floating up towards a card! Plus if you look at Hanayo's chin the last time we see her, looks like she's crying :o Maybe because they grew close and she felt upset at tricking her?

gimmepie May 28th, 2014 7:24 PM

@Altairis

Spoiler:
Midoriko and Hanayo both seemed pretty guilty over their actions, but that seems contradictory for Hanayo - she seemed perfectly fine whilst she was seducing Kazuki.

Ts, ts, ts =D
Of course. Sakura Ayane (Yuzuki's VA) is still Yuzuki and Ayako Kawasumi (Hanayo's VA) is Yuzuki now =D

Altairis May 29th, 2014 4:29 PM

Well, looks like our speculation was confirmed! Go team! :)

Spoiler:
Wonder what Hitoe's wish is, and why she's going along with it now that she's heard what will happen to her if she keeps winning. And why is Yuzuki suddenly okay with her not being with Kazuki, only her body??

gimmepie May 30th, 2014 9:31 AM

That latest episode was very interesting xD

Spoiler:
I want to know Hitoe's new wish!!!! I'd love to know where Akira is hiding now and on that note I wonder how everything will play out now after the big reveal.

Satoshi Ookami May 30th, 2014 11:44 AM

Spoiler:
Now you guys heard the different voices? =D
SakuAya has a pretty recognizable voice so it had to be plain to hear now =D

Anyways... for someone who just became an inhuman existence, she's awfully calm... must have something to do with Hitoe's wish.
And LRIGs apparently know all about the games but purposely don't say anything... hm... makes sense.

And... INCEST, people! :D This cour just love incest xD

derozio May 30th, 2014 11:30 PM

I think I'll give this one a go once it is completed. Maybe once I have a stable net connection in college a few months down the line. I used to be crazy for card games (Duel Masters) and game-based shows in general (Beyblade). Maybe this'll catch my fancy.

gimmepie May 31st, 2014 1:32 AM

@Dante - This is way more emotional and twisted than those series, but I still highly recommend it.

All together, more edgy.
But still... cool.

Altairis June 5th, 2014 2:37 PM

Another episode came out today, guys!
Spoiler:
So it looks like Mayu is the person we saw in the first minutes of episode 1, not Tama. I doubt the red earrings / white coloration is a coincidence. I thought of a theory - maybe Tama is not actually a human but a real artificial being. She might be one of the first LRGs created (since it would be weird if this started with a bunch of humans randomly becoming cards, as then there would be soulless bodies out there since there was nobody for them to switch with) but wasn't used yet for some reason.

You think Iona knows what's really going on? What do you think will happen to Hitoe? Where is that other Selector who is shown in the opening? ?_?

I am very scared, I realllyyy don't want Ruko to pull a Madoka and fix/end this some other way. And I hope it gets darker !! Wonder what they have planned for s2.

Blake Belladonna June 14th, 2014 2:16 AM

I've really been interested in this anime, just to see how it would end up. It's nearing the end now and things are getting darker and more intense.

Spoiler:
So yup Ruko pulled a Madoka, as expected since this anime is much like a Madoka meet YGO. Also I think Hitoe might have her memories return which means that the whole tainted wish mechanic could actually have a loophole (well there has to be or else Ruko's wish literally falls apart). Iona and her LRIG definitely knows something about Selectors. I can't imagine her LRIG coming out into the world.

The anime is filled with loopholes anyways, one more or less doesn't change it =D
And... we expected Madoka, everyone expected Madoka, how could writers betray our expectations?

gimmepie June 15th, 2014 8:47 AM

The last episode (of this season anyway) looks like it will be pretty intense.

Spoiler:
I wonder what will happen with Hitoe, I expect she'll probably lose to Ruko but I'm curious to see if she gets her memories back. What the hell is Mayu, and what is she up to? The last question, what's going on with Iona and her Lrig, it seems like something quite interesting is going on there.

Altairis June 19th, 2014 2:40 PM

So the series ended today! What did you guys think of the final episode? Will you be watching Season 2 in the fall?
Spoiler:
WHERE DID TAMA GO. WHAT WAS IONA'S WISH. WHY DID IONA REPLACE TAMA??? WHAT WAS WITH TAMA'S CONVO WITH MAYU. Also it really seemed like Ru's wish could come true, as all the Selectors and LRIGs seemed to be effected by it.

Blake Belladonna June 19th, 2014 8:00 PM

I definitely will! I want to know what happened after this episode :|
Spoiler:
Looks like Midoriko returned to be another person's LRIG and looks like she knows something about Iona and Ulith. Also was Iona's wish to be Ruko's LRIG??? DX

Satoshi Ookami June 20th, 2014 7:55 AM

Spoiler:
Now that was ♥♥♥♥ed up ending o.O

Well Iona's wish was something like I want to become LRIG of the person I will find worthy.

And... Fall MUST COME SOON!

Altairis June 20th, 2014 10:39 AM

I guess that makes sense, though.
Spoiler:
Since Iona's wish could have been fulfilled anytime, I bet she was probably waiting for someone strong like Ruko whom she could fight with. I suppose this could have been possible because Ulith was also white aka special LRIG. BUT WHERE DID TAMA GO.

gimmepie June 25th, 2014 12:49 AM

WHAT THE HELL. Season two. Now.

Spoiler:
I have to admit, that being Iona's wish was pretty surprising. I did not see it coming. What did they do with Tama?!?!

kuzronk July 12th, 2014 4:18 AM

While not as dark as madoka it feels more legit story/animation wise then the mix-bag called Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou and the sad moments which might be too trying too hard are heaps better then Taiyou. The main director of Steins;Gate worked on this and it shows a bit. I'm glad it didn't go the magical girl route as the two series I listed above and go to the card game genre as well.
It ends on a cliff hanger though which won't be solved until October at the least.
