Anyone else unhappy about Korrina's disrespect in gym battle?
She already lost to you once earlier, she knows your strength. She should know not to hold back. Unfortunately, When fighting her at her gym, I was expecting a good battle. Yet, she only use 3 Pokemon that are 10 levels lower than me, then I was shocked and thought "where's her secret weapon, the 2 Lucarios?" Is she seriously going to end the battle without using them just like that? Is this a serious gym battle or a joke? What does she think we are? Not to mention Mega Lucario. The battle would have been much more exciting if she used those 5 Pokemons including Mega Lucario. Well too bad, apparently we learned today that every gym leaders holds back against every one of their challengers and treat them as if he/she is giving a test for little babies instead of fighting an honorable duel. Such disrespect.
If you live in a Pokemon world, remember, do not apply to become a gym leader. If you do, you have to use only 1 type and you have to pretend to suck. |
Yeah, it was a dissapointment. However as a trainer, the first time you go up against a Gym Leader you're a scrub. They know nothing about you, but you know about them. Not until later you defeat them and are the Champion that they release their full talent. That is when we verse a Hawlucha, Machamp and Lucario all between levels 50-70. I admit though, her team was pretty pathetic at first, and the only thing worthwhile was seeing Mega Lucario and obtaining his Mega Stone.

I was pissed that I had to fight her again, but I didn't care since the Lucario battle is scripted (you'll always go first).

You have to keep in mind, that gym leaders have to stand in one place, unable to change their team. That means if they had better Pokemon other challengers (like your rival) wouldn't stand a chance against them.
|
Also with the exp. share leveling up your pokemon quicker, it was gonna be obvious that you will win unless your team was rubbish
|
I have to agree with everybody; Experience Share is what made battling this easy overall in Pokémon X and Y, and not just the one against Korrina. If you had it disabled, I'm sure much of your team would have been at lower levels, resulting in you having more of a tougher challenge. =) I personally haven't equipped it, because I loved this item; without Exp. Share, I would've had a much harder time building my team.
|
I agree with Peitharchia that the exp share had made the game substantially easier to play since there's less need to grind for exp. I'd like to remind you all that in the previous generation game (BW2), it's been implied that gym leaders are holding back against their challengers in order to give them a chance to win. For instance, gym leader Cheren didn't use his original team from BW and had to make use of low level normal type team. But if you challenge him again in the world tournament at post game, he uses a stronger team with additional new members.

It may be a systematical thing. Logically, gym leaders must get appointed to their positions due to experience and skill in battling. Therefore, they've probably already raised high level Pokemon too strong to take on challengers at their gym's point in the game. So, they breed their actual team and use lesser versions in actual Gym battles.
|
This is all the exp. share's fault. Ugh... can't live with i, can't live without it.

Assuming gym leaders have to hold back, is there a rule of how much they have to? Since in the game, you start with Viola. What if another trainer starts the adventure with Wulfric? There was also the 8th gym leader from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl that thinks his challengers are too boring. wouldn't using crappier Pokemon solve his problem? |
