Languages

In XY, we had the option to choose to play the game in a variety of languages from the start, however, the language couldn't be changed once the game was started. How likely do you think it would be for this feature to return in ORAS?

Angello June 13th, 2014 7:05 PM

I think that something very interesting in XY was the selection of languages. For example, my original language is Spanish... And I didn't need to wait some weeks, months or something else for the translation of the language in the last game.

I think that the option "Language Selection" is going to be for ORAS, absolutely... This is the best option for Pokémon in general and GameFreak.

Skystrike June 13th, 2014 8:13 PM

3 out of 4 regions having it release on the same day? This feature is definitely returning.

And it was such a good idea too. No more having to wait six months (on average) for localizing. Good on you, GF and Nintendo! :)

I think it's very likely this will come back.

Which is great, it was nice to play through my game in French, kept my language skills from getting rusty when I wasn't in class. :P

Salzorrah June 13th, 2014 11:23 PM

It's pretty likely we will be getting this feature back as it was in XY, so I'm pretty sure you won't be able to change them after you started the game tho.

Starry Windy June 15th, 2014 4:17 AM

I'm sure the Language selections will be back soon, even though I hope in ORAS, I can change it freely in-game. (Fingers crossed)

Hikamaru June 15th, 2014 4:38 AM

I'm sure they'll keep X/Y's language selection for this game, it seemed like a good move on Game Freak's part and if they removed it suddenly it would have been taking a step backwards.

sh1nyzorua June 15th, 2014 5:02 PM

I really, really hope it comes back. I loved practicing German while playing Pokemon ;0;

morrison June 16th, 2014 12:23 AM

So muc better i wont have to pay postage fees for getting an english game although i probably do this time round because THEY ONLY RELEASE IT HERE A WEEK LATE 111
WHY NINTENDO OF EUROPE/GERMANY!!!

MementoMori June 18th, 2014 3:11 PM

I don't find anything wrong with keeping that option. People can set the language that suits them the most. My native language is French, but I've always played the games in English, so much that I barely know any French Pokemon name.

Pepperton June 28th, 2014 4:11 PM

Likely that it returns, and with good reason. Extremely helpful and simple feature that should have been implemented generations prior to X and Y. Now that they've come to their senses, hopefully it'll be something they continue to offer in Pokemon games for the rest of the series' existence.

Yato June 28th, 2014 4:17 PM

It was a good feature, especially since some people in certain countries don't speak that country's primary language. Plus, from an educational point of view, it can somewhat help teach people other languages! (I doubt that was on Game Freak's mind when they chose to implement it, but you never know XD) I'm certain it'll return to ORAS and any other future main Pokemon games; it'd be even sillier than Challenge Mode not returning if it didn't.

Juno June 29th, 2014 10:07 AM

If it does come back, I hope they add Chinese. I wanted to practice my reading in my second playthrough of X but was kind of surprised to see that it wasn't an option.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2014 11:07 AM

If it does return it'll sort of shoot down the language theory for the European delay. I do want it to return though.

Firox June 29th, 2014 2:47 PM

I loved the language feature, especially for someone like me that likes playing games in other languages or just enjoy other languages in general, I sure hope it returns - just wished they add more languages in OR/AS.

Also forgot - i also liked the fact that I didn't have to buy & import the games from other countries just for the language, and knowing that the 3DS is region lock, risk not being able to enjoy the game (I would have to buy a 3DS from that region - way too expensive) - this way I can buy the game 6 or 7 times and play them in various languages.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire June 29th, 2014 5:07 PM

If it does return I may pick Spanish to make the experience seem fresher.

Salzorrah June 29th, 2014 11:20 PM

Hmm. So in XY, we had English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean to choose from. What other languages will they add? I hope they introduce Chinese and Russian in ORAS. Maybe even Arabic?

Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Arabic are amongst the top 10 languages with the largest number of (native) speakers in the world along with Spanish, English, and French. So it'll be great to see those added. Malay-Indonesian, Portuguese, Bengali, Hindustani are the other four.

Khoshi June 30th, 2014 9:42 PM

I'm positive this will return, because as far as I can remember, OR/AS will also be released globally at the same time, just as X/Y was (I think, correct me if I'm wrong!). It means there's no need to have to purchase a copy from another country, reducing hassles.

Salzorrah June 30th, 2014 11:26 PM

I kinda wonder if they will separate each language in each region? Let's say have English and French for the NA, English, German, French, Russian, Arabic, Italian, Spanish for European, English, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese for Asian?

Pretty much this! Now that they have such a system, I just don't see them removing it any time soon. Most of us were used to them taking time to release games based on language differences, but now that it's gone, it'd seem like an issue if they were to jump back, and plenty of fans would have been upset; I'm not exactly sure why they would consider doing that and take such risk.

It would've been a lot better if they were able to come up with it sooner, but hey, I suppose it's still better than nothing.

I loved the language feature, I just wish that you could switch the language. I'm currently learning German and I wanted to try it out. I decided to go with English, though, seeing as how most of the German vocab on the game is still unknown to me. But I think it could serve as a great tool to those who are learning a new language. You sort of get engulfed in the language, so you have to learn it to understand what's going on in the game.

Talon Flare July 3rd, 2014 8:28 AM

I think they might add more languages like Croatian, Chinese Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, Russian, Greek, etc.

That would be great. I could understand a good majority of the game in Spanish, but I had no idea what half of the moves were until I read the description, which was kinda annoying to check for every single one of them. Oh well ;;

Why do you think that they'd include these? :) Not disagreeing, just wondering. Mandarin Chinese kinda surprised me - I assumed it was already in the game since it has the most speakers in the world.
