New shiny hunting method!
The Blue Method
So, I believe I have discovered another new way to boost the chance of encountering shiny pokemon in X/Y. I call it the Blue Method, after my in-game character. First, a little background: I work at a job where I walk. A lot. My 3DS pedometer typically reads anywhere from 15k-20k steps per day when I take it along. So I decided to start taking my 3DS along every once in a while to stock up on those relatively useless 3DS game coins. And the most amazing thing started happening when I did. Every time I took my 3DS along with me to walk around with it at work, I encountered a shiny pokemon almost immediately when I got home in the evening. From a first-encounter shiny Eevee in the Friend Safari (which I had been hunting for weeks with no luck beforehand) to a shiny Espurr on Route 6 while looking for a Sentret for my Pokebank (that's right, I got a shiny before I even saw that non-shiny Sentret I wanted). I am not sure exactly what the ratio of steps to chance is, but there does seem to be a correlation. Today since I was off, I took a walk outside with my 3DS as part of an ongoing test of my theory. After 2000 steps, I found a shiny Gible on Route 13 within an hour of hunting. So far I've caught 13 shiny pokemon just using my Blue Method. All of the people I've told so far have gotten shiny pokemon quickly using this method. Now, this is hardly irrefutable proof. So I'm looking for more people to test my method and let me know your results. Spread the word! |
I'll try this out later. I don't walk as much as much now that work is over, so I'll just have to go on a walk or something.
|
Well wouldn't that be interesting? This is worth an experiment. I did have Shinies in the Friend Safari around the Smash Bros. event, but I do not know if the chances there go up with the steps or not, plus I might've been between 1,000-2,000. But I could always shake a couple thousand steps in and see what happens.

I'm not a shiny hunter but this would be good for the people who are. :)
|
Very interesting thanks ill give it a go later tonight.

Currently I've shaken 7,897 steps onto my 3DS. My arm is getting tired, but I will not stop! Going to give this a two hour test run later including some Eggs!
On the other hand, I'm getting a little bit of a workout, I guess. Feel the burn... |
It doesn't work for me...Yet...
I guess i'll have to keep trying. |
Well, I'll try that!! (but... I never catch a shiny even with the other methods, except for the Masuda like.. Ten minutes ago XD First shiny made-by-me!!)
I walk often, well I should walk more... that will be a great excuse! :D |
I've tested this with a relatively high shiny-rate Friend Safari. I got two Wartortle on the same day that I...never walked out of the house with the DS.
I returned to the Friend Safari after a day of walking around, amassing 5000+ steps, and found 1 Panpour in the same Safari after two hours. The Wartortle took less than an hour to find on each separate recorded event. This method is either flawed or is a massive troll. |

This method, I'm going to venture, is fake. |
Nah I don't think this method is true. It'd be interesting tho.
|
Say what you will but it's only increasing your chances, not guaranteeing results. People over at the reddit thread I started on it are having fantastic luck. One guy managed to get 8 shinies in one day with this. Quite a few people I've told are getting shiny encounters almost immediately upon getting back after 2k+ steps.

Exactly, Nintendo hasn't confirmed this. Though TBH this would be a cool new way to do it, rewarding those who get the exercise (or are willing to shake their system for the better part of an hour).
|
I will definitely do this. I'm gonna try getting my friends in and having a small study. :3
