Brendan looks better in that costume. =p Probably less practical outside in the Hoenn sun though.

I wonder if we'll get other costumes for the protagonists to reflect what contest theme they enter in? After all, the two shown here match two of the Pikachu get-ups remarkably well.

As for how contests work, I would really just rather less dancing and a return to the RSE mechanics. Let some contest moves take appeal points off other Pokemon please, it made it much more fun and strategic.

I too would like to see Brendan Belle lol I hope contest end up playing the same as in the original games..

Contests look to be glorified reasoning to give Pikachu alternate forms. Now I don't expect anything of real value from them since they appear just for Pikachu and it's forms based on what we've been given.

=C. RIP contests.

At least it's getting some special moves for what it's worth. I wonder if it'll get to keep them if we evolve it in one of those forms. Imagine an Icicle Crash Raichu holding air balloon.

So wait, Pikachu's costumes aren't just for display only? Looks like Pikachu can finally slay dragons without relying on HP Ice, but it must be a physical set, and thank goodness Brick Break, Volt Tackle, and Wild Charge exist. As much as I adore May's contest dress and Lucia, I fear GF may be going overboard with all the midriffs, especially on minors, as we live in a society where showing off a bit of skin is considered as taboo, because it's not professional (just ask the rope guy from One Piece).

It doesn't show much skin. Besides, midriff is considered acceptable in most places, for out of work cloths. More so in Japan though. They really have that idol look to them.

I think this confirmes that the battle portion of contest is gone ;-;

R.I.P content

Yato August 8th, 2014 1:12 PM

^How does this confirm the battle portion's gone? As ORaAS stated earlier, we still don't know much about how contests'll work. The only information we do have is that the protags. can change their outfits for contests and Pikachu can change outfits and gain new moves upon doing so.

Seems to me that we can only use Pikachu in the contest.

I doubt that'll be the case, as that'd make contests extremely boring and it'd disappoint a plethora of fans @[email protected] Besides, I'm assuming Lucia took part in contests/will be your opponent, and it's likely she enters Altaria, which is definitely not Pikachu XD

Unless Pikachu gains any stat changes I doubt it'll be slaying any real tough dragons anytime soon :(

Well, I guess this sort of confirms a dress up part of the contest. Though I wonder if it'll be selecting from a collection of outfits, since it doesn't seem to be like DPPt's dress up where you could drag and drop, at least in Pika's case.

That's why the Light Ball exists for Pikachu.

Don't forget Salamence, though Lucia using Altaria irritates me, because it's suppose to be Winnona's ace Pokémon.

Yeah but with his terrible defenses and Attack it still means Pikachu is going nowhere, as almost all the moves it gets at Physical and Light Ball only doubles its Special Attack. Poor guy :(

I still wonder if they're going to expand the costumes to include Pichu and Raichu. Probably not, but the poor guys are always shoved to the side because of the mascot.

You know, I'm thinking that Tropius is Winona's ace. As Mega Altaria loses the flying typing, it no longer fits her main type. Plus Tropius fits in with her home town (and is found nearby...actually most of the gym leader's ace's are found nearby their towns, with the exceptions of Tate and Liza, Roxanne, and Wallace).

Anyways. Perhaps the Pikachu costumes will get a boost in stats like Rotom. What I'll really like to know is if it'll be possible for one to evolve it while in these costumes and pass on the move it knows over to Raichu. Imagine Ice Crashing Raichu with Life orb...

Yato August 8th, 2014 2:54 PM

Icicle Crash Light Ball Pikachu would be loads of fun, too, haha. I also wonder if these Pikachu will be able to be used by NPCs. I can't really see them being used by random ones, but perhaps by important characters. It'd make things more interesting~

The Light Ball increases both its Attack and SpA stats, so it isn't something to worry about other than Pichu and Raichu once again getting neglected, especially Raichu when it comes to Mega Evolutions.

Besides Icicle Crash, which other special moves Pikachu gets from those costumes?

Rock Star gets Meteor Mash, Pop Idol gets Draining Kiss, Ph.D gets Electric Terrain, and Libre gets Flying Press!

Pika + Light Ball = 110 Attack and 100 Special Attack; Raichu + Life Orb = 117 Attack and Special Attack, but with HP dropping 10% each turn. If you don't want to risk losing the HP, then Light Ball Pika's better, but if not then Raichu would be the better option.

Ah, whoops. In the older generations it was just Special Attack and I didn't know they changed it in the later ones. My bad. :p

Me Neither. It seems like Pikachu is getting a lot of good things this generation. First the small boost in it's stats, and then the apperant Light Ball boost. Now these costumes (if they can be used outside of contests, which if Aime is any indication I think that's a yes) with their new moves. Now if it's costume forms get stat boosts (like Rotom), it'll be more dangerous. At this point I think we really need that Mega Raichu to encourage people to evolve their Pikachu's.

Yato August 8th, 2014 3:42 PM

What if Game Freak is discouraging people from evolving their Pikas because they want more people to be like Ash or Red??? (Speaking of, I wonder if Ash will get to do contests and get outfits for his Pikachu.)

I sort of hope Pikachu doesn't get stat boosts, or if it does, that it only gets boosts in its defenses and maybe Speed. As I pointed out earlier, Pika with the Light Ball has pretty decent Attack and Special Attack, so if those were to be increased by the outfits, it would be even stronger when holding the Light Ball @[email protected]

I actually think that's the case...
Maybe it'll get a 50 point boost. 20 in speed, 10 in it's attacks, and five it's defenses.

I don't think you'll be able to evolve into Riachu while in those forms. This is a pseudo form change from the looks of how its being treated. It may lock all other form changing abilities (Switching costumes and evolving) unless you remove the older one first. Pikachu is the mascot so seeing it get special treatment like this isn't unfounded.

Pikachu's little costume change is kin to Form changes from the looks of how they are treating it, especially since it can keep the costumes while out of the contest halls.

I think its just, because Pikachu is the Face of Pokemon. That would be the only real reasoning I see all this focus on it for the costume form change and the Contest focus.

The contests seem to me, like they'll be glorified Musicals. Performing with specific costumes against other Pikachu. I want more info cause my opinion on Contests is very low thanks to recent discoveries. I didn't think they could ruin them further than they did with Super Contests.

I'm shocked I didn't notice this either and seriously hope this isn't part of the requirement surrounding either Contests of the Costumes....ALL of the Pikachu shown in costumes, Libre, Rockstar, Pop Star, Belle, and Ph.D...are ALL FEMALE.

There are indents on all five tails making them have the heart like look.

I was the first one to point it out them being all female, during last issue. It took me awhile too. Also note the dark spot on it's tail. It make me wonder if this Pikachu may be a special, one of a kind (female only) Pikachu. It could be like Notch Ear Pichu.

L0RD G3NGAR August 8th, 2014 9:39 PM

Appeal returns. Battle portion confirmed?

Salzorrah August 8th, 2014 9:43 PM

I'm just wondering, since each of the costumes give off a special move, are the costumes considered as formes, a la Rotom style? If so, I'm pretty sure the changing moves thing will be like Rotom's?
