#HoennAllDayEveryday [Day and Night Speculation Thread]

In RSE, we had time involved in the game, despite that there wasn't much events connected to this, other than the tides in Shoal Cave and others, and the obvious day - night cycle.

Do you think that we would finally get the Day and Night cycle we yearned? What events will most likely happen in each of cycle?

Discuss!

Hikamaru July 15th, 2014 6:15 AM

Given the fact the only way time of day was tracked in the original games was through a clock in the player's bedroom, and the fact that the time of day now runs off the DS/3DS clock itself it's pretty safe to assume they'll be finally giving Hoenn the day and night feature it lacked previously.

I'm pretty sure they'll keep the tides in Shoal Cave as well, which means we may be seeing Shoal Salt and Shoal Shells finally make their comeback.

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 15th, 2014 6:54 AM

I'll like some Pokémon to appear more at night such as Duskull and Chimecho.

blue July 15th, 2014 6:56 AM

Ugh I reaaaaaally hope so, I've always wanted to see Hoenn lit up at night. It's like there was no visual Day/Night system in X & Y and since it wasn't in the originals they may choose to exclude it for that reason. On the other hand as Hikamaru said, the 3DS runs off real time as did Ruby & Saphire sooo maybe, maybe not!

Megan July 15th, 2014 7:05 AM

Considering GF use the same engine they used for X and Y which had a day/night system implemented, it's probably included in the Remakes. I mean how would you be able to get Umbreon if there wasn't such a feature? GF can't back out of the day/night system anymore, that's for sure.

Altairis July 15th, 2014 7:29 AM

Yup, of course! I think that the time of day is now a permanent feature in the mainstream Pokemon games. I can't see Gamefreak removing it as certain features are tied to this mechanic, such as Umbreon's evolution and nocturnal Pokemon.

I noticed that some of the battle screen shots we have seen have a dark sky, in XY the sky gets like that near, or at night so it's a pretty good sign we'll see Hoenn at night :3

Well Phoebe's room in the images looks like it's nighttime through the windows.. although that could just be the theme for her room since she is Ghost-type specialist.

That one may be due to the theme. It would be cool though if it were affected by the time outside tbh.

I think it's a given the day/night feature will return; seems rather weird GF would leave it out, as it's become a staple since Gen. IV. (It's true it started in Gen. II, but Gen. III lacked it entirely ;-;) Imagine seeing places like Fortree, Mossdeep, Lilycove, and Sootopolis at night <3

Ooooh yeah I can't wait!

I hope that they put in some minor features that are noticeable for the day/night function. I honestly didn't notice any difference between day and night in X/Y. In G/S catching bug Pokemon was much easier (and in some cases the only way) in the morning. I think that certain Pokemon only came out at night too.

Something simple like that would be nice.

Now imagine surfing at night in Hoenn's vast sea. Damn, if I got lost in Gen III at sea without any darkness I can't even imagine how many times I'll get lost at night...might even have to find an island and build a secret base to spend the night away should I lack any flying Pokemon...

Imagine being underwater at night. It's already sort of dark as is, so it'd probably be even darker XD It'd be neat if some underwater Pokemon only came out at night, too~

Or perhaps the encounter rate will drop at night as a sign that the underwater Pokemon are resting. Are there any nocturnal sea creatures Pokemon are based on? or close enough?

Salzorrah July 16th, 2014 5:54 AM

Ooooh, I hope we could get some Unova Pokemon like Yamask or Frillish to appear at night, since they are some spooky Pokemon ;)

Anyways, can't wait to see Hoenn at night hnnng

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire July 16th, 2014 7:50 AM

Why specifically Unova Pokémon? Kalos gave us a creepy rotten ghost tree and a creepy pumpkin. Imagine encountering those at night and not in a forest like in XY...creepy tree is out of place...wait it's not a tree!

What about Chinchou & Laturn?

antemortem July 16th, 2014 12:20 PM

I could see Pokemon like Lanturn and Staryu (throwback to Gen 2!) having a higher encounter rate off the coasts of Lilycove and Mossdeep at night. That'd be interesting. I also want to see more bird Pokemon during the day and hardly at night, with Hoothoot/Noctowl as the obvious exceptions. Replace them with ghosts, creepy rotten trees, creepy pumpkins! Yamask would be lovely addition to the nightime desert.

blue July 16th, 2014 12:21 PM

Wouldn't it be nice to sit on the shore of Lilycove with the lighthouse shining out onto the sea, they could really make good use of the 3D graphics and the beautiful scenery in Hoenn with Day & Night.

This gave me an idea. Maybe at night Lilycove's beach (or all of Hoenn's beaches) could be covered by Staryu and Starmie sort of like how Stunfisk were out of night at the triplet's hometown in B2W2.

I'm sure day and night make its way into ORAS. They're such an advanced feature, and I'm more than positive that a console like 3DS would have no problem handling such data; there might've been issues regarding it with GameBoy, but same can't be said for this. To be honest, I'm really looking forward to it! It would be amazing to see Hoenn at night, for first time ever.

One location that I'm really looking forward to see is Slateport. It's one of my most favorite places of this region, and have always wanted to experience it in dark, with lights out. Should be pretty amazing. As far as wild Pokémon go, I could definitely imagine them change depending on hour of day. At morning, perhaps there would be more fairies out there, as well as bright and colorful grass-types. In afternoon, more rock-, ground-, and fire-types would be found. In evening and night, water, ghost, and dark would be common.

I don't think that's why, there were games that could switch between night and day in the GBA era after all. Plus the GBA was more advanced than the GBC which could handle Night and Day. I think it was like seasons not being in this generation (likely they'll return in the next generation and be in the Sinnoh remakes <3).

Tbh I don't have high hopes for GF to revitalize the night and day cycle of which Pokemon appear and when :(. They've been ignoring it after Gen II (they even left it out in the already mentioned Gen III/GBA era) introduced it...

They seem to ignore that every once in a while, but it'd be a lot nice if they could stop; it'd add more realism, in my opinion! After all, in real life, that's how this works with animals; some could be found outside in daytime, while others are available only at night.

MarinoKadame July 16th, 2014 1:59 PM

If only we had Night/Day cycle with seasons and weathers, it would be great.

Khoshi July 16th, 2014 2:12 PM

This is for sure coming back. It's been around for quite a few Pokemon games, I don't see why they'd stop now. It's become both an important mechanical and aesthetic feature and I don't expect Game Freak to discontinue using the day/night feature.

If they could only bring back the seasons we had for so short of a time...
