Wanna give a tip?

On some occasion, when you talk with somebody which helps you (like telling how's the Battle Chateau goes, for example) or using their services, you'll be prompted the option to give $100, $500, $1,000 (Pokedollars), or not at all.

Do you guys giving tips often, or not? And why?

cheriberry7 August 1st, 2014 2:06 AM

I usually do. I feel kind of cheap if I don't..lol. Although, is there any actual purpose to it?

Candy August 1st, 2014 2:14 AM

I'd normally give tips... if I didn't accidentally pressed on the "No" option by repeatedly bashing "A". P:

Normally I'd give $500, but when I feel generous (and normally I feel generous) I'd give $1000.

If I sent out a 300,000 PD writ, I feel it's only appropriate to tip the person assisting with it for 1,000 more.

Kinda silly that it has no purpose, however. Why include it?

Pendraflare August 1st, 2014 1:51 PM

I tend to tip the maximum when I'm in the restaurants, and on occasion after photos. We all know there are the rumors that tipping raises the shiny rate… But it's just the thing to do.

If this were real life, waiters and waitresses would be rich. XD

As for myself, I do tip, yes. I tip all the time, whether it be some large portion or small. As stated above, doing such things raises your chance of encountering shiny Pokémon, which is one of my main reasons behind it. Haven't seen any changes in regards to that, but for me, there's still hope.

I do tip them in the game, usually $1,000. The only times I don't tip is if:

a) I accidentally forgot to tip the person
b) I am low on money and/or need to make a lot of cash

Sebastian_Sommer August 2nd, 2014 3:30 AM

I always tip the NPCs 1000 pokedollars cause I have way too much cash in the game, except for the dude in the haunted house since he told a very boring story and it felt like he's trying to take your money (even Shauna and the others agreed that it's stupid).

Hikamaru August 2nd, 2014 8:37 AM

I sometimes tipped on occasion, but there are times I don't tip as well. The rumor about tipping increasing the shiny rate is not really true in my opinion, because it's been months since my last capture of a shiny.

Sheep August 3rd, 2014 11:14 AM

I do tip since I feel bad not doing so despite it being a video game. :D; Usually I tip the max possible amount which really isn't a problem as I'm loaded with pokemoney more often than not.

Belldandy August 3rd, 2014 2:09 PM

I have 7,000,000P-10,000,000P on-hand always, so I always tip 1000P lol I'm too richy.

XtinaIsMeLuvinWWE August 5th, 2014 6:20 AM

The occasion I'm most likely to tip is when I take a photo I'm particularly proud of (I always tip the most expensive one lol), mainly cause I'm in a good mood but also to hear Phil the Photo Guy tell me I'm a good model lol xD

I also tip the people ($1000 again) that sing to me cause I love singing myself and appreciate being serenaded on my travels lol :)

The time I don't always tip is the Battle Chateau - if I've just given her $100,000 to send a Writ then there's no way she's weedling an extra $1000 off me lol :)

Bounsweet August 10th, 2014 8:46 PM

I always tip 1,000 or if I'm feeling cheap, then 500. I remember the rumor going around when the game was released that tipping increases your chances of finding a shiny so I've always just left tips when available by the off chance that a shiny will pop up. It's either the improved rates of them appearing or the tipping, because I have found a dozen or so shinies in XY.

I dunno, even if it was revealed that it had no effect on the game in any way I would probably still tip just for the heck of it.

Starry Windy August 12th, 2014 9:42 AM

Usually I give tips after being offered any service or anything (and giving the maximum amount of tip these days), just because I like doing it.

DraconianWing August 12th, 2014 9:54 AM

I have no idea how tipping affects anything in the game, but wether I give a tip or not depends on wether the place/service has helped me progress in the game. I normally tip 500-1000 at the Lumiose restaurants, but the game also has places where (in my opinion) it would be ridiculous to ask for tips (for example, being asked to tip at the Battle Chateau after spending over $100,000 on a Writ of Challenge/Invitation)

USC Yuuka August 13th, 2014 11:46 AM

I always tip the maximum 1000 everywhere except for the cafes. At the cafes, I generally tip 500 because I usually sit at every place and the grand total amounts to 6500, which evens out with the extra 1500 I tip to 8000. I have OCD with that kind of stuff uwu

crua9 August 13th, 2014 12:17 PM

I don't really, but I'm always low on funds.

I heard the tip system was meant to mess with your style. By tipping more, your style goes up. This means you get things cheaper.

I haven't seen anything to really prove it will help you get a shinny.

Altius August 13th, 2014 8:14 PM

The only person I did not tip was the weird guy in the scary house. Screw that guy. I give tips to everyone else, most of the time $500. I give Phil $1000 because he's available almost everywhere I go, and that's crazy!

That said, I don't remember France being a country which really requires gratuity (they do have service charges though). On my last trip to the country I've only given €2 to the bellhop, nothing else. The NPCs in this game show rather serious unhappiness when no tips are given (especially when I accidentally press too quickly... I feel kinda upset so I talk again to actually tip them. lol)

Kikaito plush August 14th, 2014 12:40 AM

I always get tips to people unless I press the button to fast.

Howmander August 14th, 2014 1:36 AM

According to the guide, Tipping increases your style points to get into the various boutiques easier/faster as well as you get a medal for being a generous tipper on the GTS at a certain point

Mr.Eeveelutions August 14th, 2014 2:26 AM

I always tip the full $1000 cause if you have the money why not be nice to them? I am hoping the game understands karma, after the amount of tips I have given I need a shiny! :)

Sablrainy August 14th, 2014 4:40 AM

I only tip when I have money, which isn't right now!
It's useful for style though.

BeachBoy August 14th, 2014 4:51 AM

I always tip the maximum, as I wish for the game not to crit me so much in the Battle Maison. (No correlation, but who knows).

Sablenite August 14th, 2014 6:54 AM

Like most people here, I only do it because I feel bad if I don't. XD I don't care too much about my luck with shinies as I seem to already be insanely lucky with them, so whether or not tipping increases the chances of finding one doesn't matter much to me.

They don't even tip in France (though they'll try to trick obvious foreigners into it), which makes it funny that they implemented it in these games.
