Arc September 25th, 2014 12:53 PM

I'm in agreement with Zeffy and Klippy's ideas. I realize that we would once again be resetting the world for the third time essentially. But our world isn't in an exactly fantastic state right now with villagers broken, abnormal lag, and other things. Crashing has been getting more common ever since we did the whole 1.8 -> 1.7 transition. I'm not even doing anything related to the villagers or 1.8 content when I crash, I'm just strolling Arcrad and bam! Crashed/booted from the server.

I'm loving Klippy's "land" idea though. It might ruin the image of the small town that is associated with Verdanturf, but hey, it's an interesting approach to take. (I'm also aching to build a kingdom in the sky as my land.)

(Also, I'm not a fan of the landscape present in the current Verdanturf. Forests, forests, swamp, extreme hills, and more forests. But this is just a minor nitpick on my part, haha.)

Matthew September 25th, 2014 12:57 PM

I'm up for a restart on a new 1.8 world. The world border idea would be great to have as it adds that bit of extra challenge. Hopefully Mojang release 1.8.1 to trim out the lag issues soon though.

Dreg September 25th, 2014 1:13 PM

I might be up for it, but I'd be a complete lagfest if we did go up to 1.8. I'd much prefer it if we did do it on the upcoming 1.8.1 update which I'm hoping is soon.

I never see anyone on the server now and it drives me away completely.

El Héroe Oscuro September 25th, 2014 1:57 PM

What do you mean by a world border? Just curious as I don't have a complete grasp on the concept.

I'm okay with a reset to 1.8. The game ultimately got ruined for myself considering I could make things right now the fly via command, so I'm okay with losing that privilege. The only real setback would be the loss of Lockette, which if y'all are trustworthy of each other than I have no issue with the reset (although I'd still like to hear from certain members.)

Gardevoir the Dragon Slayer September 25th, 2014 2:38 PM

Am happy for a full reset, if we can play smoothly on 1.8 thats worth it and most people seem in agreement.

Klippy September 25th, 2014 2:38 PM

Personally, I've been extremely busy this last week or so. Hence my inactivity on the server. But I am definitely ready to play.

For more info on the world border.

The idea would be that we use the world border to slowly add more land to the server. We begin by only having a set area (say, 200x200 or so) that increases by 3-5 blocks a day. There are ways to do this and I know for a fact that we can in vanilla Minecraft.

The purpose of this would be to keep all of us in a small area and build up a nice city. As the world border advances out, we can discover new biomes, blocks, dungeons, etc. By doing so slowly, we keep people from lagging the server by going super far out and adding needless data to our world.

Eventually the idea would be that the world border stops at a certain point (for an idea, perhaps 1000x1000). It prevents us from, once again, going too far or lagging the server worse. Plus it makes it easier for our members (new and old) to interact with everyone else.

Trust may not be easy, but if we set rules out on here for being able to join AND on the server, I hope we can get past any issues with theft. Beyond that, it just comes down to respecting others. Not everyone will, so we'll just have to be careful with who comes on and make there be a post-limit perhaps.

Sounds fun. Don't exactly know how to implement it, but it has it's pluses.

This should help: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/World_border#Commands

Matthew September 25th, 2014 3:12 PM

This shouldn't require a plugin. It's a Minecraft feature implemented in the 1.8 snapshots. Test it out beforehand if you want.

Klippy September 25th, 2014 3:15 PM

What he said. :) It's just a new feature.

Aquacorde September 25th, 2014 4:07 PM

I'm for resetting in 1.8. Villagers being broken kind of wrecks like, all of my recovery plans.
I don't care about Lockette functionality. I'd like to know who's been wreckin **** so they can get the hell out.

As Penta said, it might be laggy af for a while. But that would probably be mitigated by the world border idea. 1000x1000 is pretty small though isn't it? I worry that we'd lose a lot of biomes by stopping that small. In that vein... starting 200x200 is rather small as well. I'm pretty sure central Verdanturf alone is bigger than that.

Dreg September 25th, 2014 4:34 PM

I got a request: for the new world I suggest one of the mods locate the stronghold just in case it could be outside the 1000x1000 border. Or, you could find a seed which could make it as close as it was on the world we have now.

btw, I'd much prefer it if the locked difficulty was Normal, just for the random armored mobs spawning, not forgetting the enchanted bows the skeles have.

Wobbu September 25th, 2014 4:50 PM

I'd be fine with updating to 1.8 and doing a reset. I much prefer 1.8 over 1.7. We will have a completely new world, right? If I can make a suggestion, would it be possible to make the biomes smaller than they are in the current Verdanturf?

Also I can restart my flag project :D

Aquacorde September 25th, 2014 5:09 PM

Small biomes yes please. None of this endless mountains ****.

doge September 25th, 2014 5:22 PM

I'd be totally down with resetting the server, a fresh start is always nice! I'll try and see if I can squeeze in some time to play whenever that happens!

Mr. X September 25th, 2014 5:53 PM

I'd be fine with a reset - I've got a idea for a new house anyway, it's not going to fit in my little bit of land, and I don't really feel like building away from town.

Also, second getting rid of the mountains.

Klippy September 25th, 2014 5:57 PM

200x200 isn't that small if we increased the world border by 5 blocks every day. It would definitely prevent us from lagging out the server/adding unnecessary crap to the server. I think that's a benefit in itself. Beyond that, I prefer us being close because I personally like seeing everyone running about town doing their business.

El Héroe Oscuro September 25th, 2014 5:58 PM

Is it possible to actually control the biomes in which you are in?

We can research seeds to start our world out at. So we could find a seed for a world that has five-six biomes all very close together. I don't necessarily want them all available from the get-go though, because then if someone wants a swamp for vines/lilypads, they will have motivation to come check out the server often to ensure they get to the swamp. :)

Nah I do like the idea and I would like everyone to have a house in town. Maybe put a max width on them though tbh because we have a lot of people about to cluster into a tiny area to start with. I'm really just worried that if the size is restricted too much then it will be chaos.

Mr. X September 25th, 2014 6:10 PM

I'd think 200x200 would be a bit small, same for the increase.

Though it really depends on just how many intend to play. We've got a decent amount of people playing sure, but how many of them are regulars?

Aquacorde September 25th, 2014 6:14 PM

Even if people aren't regulars, they still gonna have a house, aren't they? I can think of fourteen off the top of my head who have houses in the current world and I'm probably forgetting people.

El Héroe Oscuro September 25th, 2014 6:27 PM

200x200 would definitely be too small. 500x500 might be good though.

That's what I was thinking for the starting amount as well.
