Sup Gamefreaks...
I would presume I'm the elder statesmen of the group. I played Pokemon Blue way back as a pre-teen back in 1998. I was 12. Since then I've played Gold, Emerald and LeafGreen and for some reason I've just gotten a desire to relive those memories.
I haven't played any game beyond Generation 3...and quite honestly I'm not interested in playing Generations 5 or 6...however, Generation 4 with Diamond/Pearl and Platinum has intrigued me. Although that would require me to get a DS and I'm not big on the DS...I prefer to stick to the Gameboy. Though I wouldn't be opposed to trying out DS, I feel like I'm pretty behind the times. My first pokemon was Bulbasaur, for anyone who wondered. |
The DS was an awesome system. Never too late to nab one! I really loved mine, though I adore the 3DS as well. Welcome to PC. :)
Fairly longtime fan here myself, having started with R/B/Y in 1999, so you're not alone! We actually have a lot of older fans here; more than I've seen on other Pokemon forums. That's another thing that makes this community as awesome as it is. Hope you'll be able to get your hands on D/P/Pt! Can vouch that those were great games. Enjoy your time and see you. <3 |
Does the 3DS play DS games or no?

Welcome to the community - glad to see another player from the beginning here (I owned Pokemon Yellow though, so my first starter was Pikachu.) |
Thanks elhero...
Like I mentioned before I like the first three generations of the Pokemon series, but once it moved to the DS, I lost interest. Though after looking at the starters, and reading up on the 4th generation I got interested in it's story. Plus I noticed a lot of the first generation Pokemon get final evolutions (ex. Electabuzz to Electivire). So do you think it would be better to get a 3DS instead of a regular DS? |

Again, thanks for the insight.
I saw some gameplay of Black and White and X and Y and I wasn't impressed. I prefer Pokemon the way I grew up. Which means I probably would play any game past Generation 4. However, I'm not quite sold just yet on Generation 4. It intrigues me. |
Really? Have you tried/seen Black2/White2? That and XY had the most enjoyable gameplay since Gen 3. Gen 4 was just terrible in my opinion, but some people think otherwise. We're all just really looking forward for the release of the Ruby and Sapphire remakes this November.
Anyway, welcome to PC! n_n |
Welcome to Pokecommunity Bro! My first Pokemon was Charmander, so I wouldv'e killed you! lol
If you're looking for something new for gameboy check out Pokemon Hacking! It's alot of fun! |
Zeffy- You have to realize that I'm from the old school generation of Pokemon, back in the days of Red/Blue/Yellow. At 12 years of age, I took my huge Gameboy that took four double A batteries wherever I went. Though I was never able to get an Alakazam or Golem via trade, but I digress. Now I'm 29, and I've seen youtube videos showcasing Black(2)/White(2) and X/Y's gameplay and the main sticking point for me are the starters themselves. All six are brand new, plus an endless amount of new Pokemon. Why is this an issue for me? Because of the era I grew up in, I was used to seeing Pokemon played in a certain way, and it leaves way too many more to be captured. Seeing X/Y in battle almost reminded me of playing Pokemon Stadium back in the day.
I had mentioned it before, but the reason why I was even intrigued by the Sinnoh region/Gen 4's Pokemon was because a good number of them showcased new evolutions for Generation 1's Pokemon that I had never seen before. Magneton to Magnezone, Eevee to Leafeon/Glaceon, etc...in addition it was also the generation where you could transport your Generation 1-3 Pokemon to Generation 4's games of D/P/P. So to sum it up, I feel like the Generation 4 kind of bring things around full circle. Whereas Generations 5 and 6 you embark on a brand new adventure. Nothing wrong with it. But I'm a traditionalist and it was partially why I never even got a DS when it first came out. Zolt - Don't be so sure about that. I typically raised a Geodude to a Graveler to take care of my rival's Charmander. Right now I just have 2 Gameboy Micros, one green and one red. Not a coincidence by the way. I had to import them from out of the country. I hope to get a DS Lite at some point, but I'm not jumping on it right away. |
