#24: Guardians of the GaLAKESy
http://sprites.pokecheck.org/i/480.gifhttp://sprites.pokecheck.org/i/481.gifhttp://sprites.pokecheck.org/i/482.gif Welcome back for a brand new Pokémon Poll of the Week here in Pokémon Polls! The last poll may have been a little longer than a week, but who's counting, right? Anyway, please make sure to follow all PC and PP rules in this thread, especially: Expand on your answers! Don’t just tell us that Pikachu is your favorite Pokémon - tell us why! If you’re just listing or giving very short answers, your post may be up for a warning or an infraction. This week, our poll question was suggested by GeraldTheTheroiest, who'll be receiving an emblem for his contribution. Remember, if you'd like to receive a special emblem of your own, feel free to send me a VM with your poll idea(s), or leave it with your post in this thread. With that out of the way though, this week's poll question is: Which member of the lake guardian trio is your favorite? This is a very similar trio that embodies the spirit of knowledge, willpower and emotion. Normally, I wouldn't make a poll with 3 choices multiple choice, but maybe you prefer the design or moveset of one to the others. Either way, pick any of the three that you like, and let the voting begin! Spoiler:
|
Oh my god. I haven't decided on my vote yet so I'll be back with that, but I just got to pop in and say that this was... just... an amazing pun.
I bow down to thee, king of word jokes <3 |
Azelf for me. I am generally fond of this trio and I like all of them. But Azelf has just some small design differences that I like better. I don't care for their stats.
|
I like both Mesprit and Azelf, but if I had to choose one, it would have to be Azelf because of its design and its stats. Uxie's design and stats doesn't quite appeal to me.
|
I voted Azelf, because I like blue Pokemon and its stats make it the strongest of the bunch with its great offenses and speed which I tend to often lean towards in terms of battle style. The other two are cute as well, but if I were ever in a situation where I could bond with only one of them, it would definitely be Azelf.
|
Even though i submitted the idea i'll give my opinion on it :P I personally think mesprit is the best, just thanks to the design alone really but i mostly don't do competitive battling so maybe that's why i care less about stats :P
|
So I'm that loner who votes for Uxie? Alright then.
Ever since Platinum when I visited the library and read the myths of all three guardians, I instantly preferred Uxie. It is the 'Being of Knowledge' after all, and I personally felt that Uxie was more of a challenge to fight than the others. Plus, it played a cool short role in PMD Darkness/ Time/Sky as being the one who erased your mind. |
It's got to be Azelf for me, surely. Competitively, it seems to be a lot more useful that other two. Its stats are great overall, and it has access to a ton of great moves, which allows it to play a decent role as lead. With the combination of Stealth Rock, Ice Punch, Zen Headbutt, and Fire Punch, it's nearly impossible to stop. With first move, you've got some entry hazard set up, so every time your opponent switches into a new Pokémon, they automatically hurt themselves and lose a decent amount of health. As for rest, you have a wide range of coverage with them.
Design-wise, I'm pretty fond of Uxie. To me, it looks quite beautiful, mostly due to its color-scheme. |
Uxie for me hands down :)
It was the first Guardian (of the Ga-lake-sy...love that pun lmao!!) that I encountered and caught in Diamond, so I have way more of an attachment to it :) I also utilised it in some Super Contests and it did really well, whereas the other two guardians I just boxed. Another reason I like Uxie is its design - its sprite is just SO cute!! Meanwhile, yellow's one of my favourite colours while I'm not really big on pink or blue. Finally, I'm intrigued by the fact that its eyes are closed and also that it's based on knowledge, with the design of its head being brain-like to reflect this :) |
They are all awful duplicates imo.
Mesprit seems more appealing than the others on it's own. |
Mesprit and Azelf are better in name and design.
|
I can't say I really like any of them that much.
However I would say Uxie is my favourite in terms of design. Azelf and Mesprit don't appeal to me visually. |
I prefer Azelf, because it has the highest offensive stats of the three.
|
I'm proud to say that I don't know any of those.
|
For some reason I was drawn to Uxie. Something about the design was interesting to me. Its back story was a lot more interesting also.
|
Mesprit, because, technically, it was the first Pokemon I ever caught in a main series Pokemon game. You see, I was more of a Mystery Dungeon player at the beginning of my Pokemon career, and only got into the main series when my neighbour friend let me play his Pokemon Platinum. So, I was just strolling out of town, into the grass, when I encountered, and caught I'm pretty sure, a Mesprit. So, the first Pokemon I ever caught was Mesprit, making it my favourite of the three (also, as a side note, my first ever Pokemon was Cubone in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team :P)
|
Azelf. It was the first ever legendary Pokemon that gave me trouble when I was capturing it, it was the first Psychic type I effectively used, and it was also among the first Pokemon I used in competitive battling. Azelf is just amazing, to me. Strong in its stats, versatile in its moveset and dangerous to face, both in the wild and in a trainer battle.
|
I think Azelf is the cutest and I generally base my opinion on pokémon a lot from their designs. But I like that Mesprit is about emotion (and also pink!) so I guess both of those are my favorites. Azelf a bit more perhaps.
I get why Uxie has closed eyes but I think it would look better if it didn't. |
None of them really stand out to me, tbh. I'm just gonna go with Azelf though since it's the most visually appealing to me. :3
|
I don't really have a strong opinion of these three- I just really wanted to make that thread title pun while it was still relevant :p Either way, my vote went to Uxie, mainly because it was the first one that I caught in both Platinum AND White 2.
But with that said, it's about time that we wrap up this Poll of the Week. Don't worry if you haven't cast your vote and had your say yet though- all POTWs remain open even after their no longer stickied, so keep posting away. Unfortunately, this will be the last POTW held in Pokemon Polls for the next few months, as we make way for the second annual Favorite Pokemon Tournament! We'll also be holding a new posting challenge in Pokemon Polls going forward, so don't feel like you'll be missing out on anything just because there's no POTW. More information about both of these will be available later tonight (or tomorrow, depending on your location), so make sure to keep an eye out for that. Thanks again, and happy voting! |
This trio is my least favourite trio out of every single one so I can't even really pick a favourite. I don't like their designs because they are all so similarly shaped and coloured that I can't tell them apart. It's not obvious which colours go with which spirit's motif (unlike the cool icy blue for Articuno, lightning yellow for Zapdos, red fire for Moltres, etc.) and beyond that... I don't really understand what "knowledge", "willpower", and "emotion" have to do with each other? Maybe the important parts of a decision making process or something? It's such an unintuitive trio for me and aside from catching them once for the Pokédex I've never given them any thought.
I caved into curiosity after writing this and looked up what they had to do with each other and apparently they're based on the "Imperial Regalia of Japan" which is VERY unintuitive to me despite actually having studied this stuff before. I think part of it is that the typical English translations for the virtues they're meant to represent aren't necessarily used in the English fandom (for example, "valor" vs "willpower"), but it's also because I don't even recall Sinnoh being even remotely Japanese as far as its lore goes. I'd expect and accept that sort of thing from Johto where the Japanese influence in the region's culture is very obvious, but Sinnoh felt so different. I know this is originally a Japanese series but by this point in the games, it was very much an international phenomenon so going with such a specifically Japanese folklore for a Legendary trio... it's a weird choice, in my opinion. They're definitely not intuitive to foreigners, especially compared to all the other trios in the series. Anyway, based on what they stand for, knowledge is the concept that is most important to me of the three... but I also kind of just want to pick the pink one because I like pink. I think it says a lot about how important these Pokémon are to me that I don't even know which one is the pink one or, quite frankly, couldn't even guess which one belongs to which name... in order to answer this question. :( |
Azelf is the best, naturally. Uxie comes a close second though, with its defense stats - but seriously, if you're thinking of using such a Pokemon as a tank instead of something like Snorlax or Metagross, you have issues.
|
I like Azelf the most, mostly because when I originally played through Pearl I used one on my team and absolutely loved it. It's offensive power accompanied by it's cast movepool is really unmatched by the other two. Uxie is great defensively and design wise but I still think Azelf is the best of the three haha. Not really a fan of Mesprit. I didn't like how it roamed and the other two didn't. It just made a Pokemon that wasn't that great more of a pain to catch and that was another turn off for me.

Azelf for me. Its usability in battle is by far the best of the three, with Nasty Plot, and some strong attacking stats to back it up with. And the blue pixie is just the neatest design on my end. Mesprit is alright, but Uxie, not so much.
