Gen VII speculation, new features and discussion thread
OrAs aren't out yet, but I was wondering what are your thoughts on the future of Pokemon? What would you like to see in Gen VII? What kind of region do you think we'll get? Since the 'New' 3DS was announced do you think we'll see another generation like V where the games could be played on the older DS versions but were enhanced for the DSi? Or perhaps one like Gen II where we could play the first two on the GB but not the third version which was GBC exclusive?
|
I'm hoping you fail as the protagonist and the world gets destroyed no matter what you do in ORAS. I would like to see a post-apocalyptic world where we play as the grandfather of the main protagonist. We have to search for legendaries, capture or kill them, then "revive" part of the world with that legendary until you have "revived" the whole world. However, these legendaries are hidden in a secret box that you have to find in the second half of the game. The second half of the game is his grandson challenging gyms, and defeating the new evil team who is searching for the box of legendaries to control the world (don't forget, his grandfather is a legend). This new world is futuristic with giant skyscrapers, new clothes, gyms, pokemon centers, roads, cars, etc.
Pokemon (only new) will have a more mutilated look to them because of all the destruction. I think gen 7 can be played on the new ds, and the old, but the wifi connection will terminated when gen 8 comes out. |
I'm quite sure Gen VII will be either "new-3DS enhanced" or exclusive to new-3DS, with the latter being more likely because recent pokemon games have massively increased demands in power (with more enhanced maps, animations, framerate improvements...)
One feature which I think will be in part of Gen VII is voice acting. Gen VI remastered all pokemon cries - some for the worse - so I think actual voices will now be used rather than the traditional "bling". In fact, with the fact that 3DS game carts can store up to 8GB in content, this is certainly possible. |
I think they might step aside from tweaking game mechanics to tweaking the actual story and presentation
I mean, 6 generations of the same story gets kind of old They made gen 5 very interesting with N, who got the most character development in Pokemon history In gen 7, I think they'd really try to give it more of a true RPG gameplay, offering the user freedom to change the game events as they wish |

I'd like them to take the games back to a Japanese-based Region, not entierly sure why but my favourite regions seem to be the ones that are based in Japan. I'm looking forward to seeing what direction they take in terms of graphics, it will be interesting to see how they change from the current graphics (XY) into Generation VII.
|
I bet NO ONE will get it right. The fake rumors from before X and Y announcement were WAY off.
|
I really wish you could play it on the normal DS because it looks so cool :(
|
I'd be willing to put money on Gen 7 being able to be played on the normal 3DS

Okay. So here are my speculations:
● We will about as many Pokémon, introduuced in Gen VI, if not fewer. This is to prevent the Pokédex to reaching huge and jaw-dropping lengths. We already have 721 right now(I included the pseudo-legendaries, too) and having around 830, will be a little intimidating. It'll save room for quality of the Pokémon rather than quantity. ● Taking a stab here, but we already had regions based off Asia, Europe, and U.S.A North America. I'm going to take a wild stab and say that we might have a region, either: A. Based off of Latin America/South America B. A Safari-esque scene that resembles Africa or Australia. ● The theme may be "Exploration" in the games. Like how XY was based off "Beauty". ● Out of the new Pokémon, we will not get alot of common types(Normal, Water, etc.), just so they can balance out the type availablity, for all of them ● We are getting a new eeveelution that coincides to the "Physical" types in Pokémon, starting off with Flying, Steel, and Poison, because Steel and Poison for Fairies and Flying because of popular demandm we may also see Dragon eeveelution to tie things up with the Special types before then. ● The games will have some sort of gimmick which gives more to players with New-3DS's a bunch more features. Same happened with B2W2 if you had a 3DS. By having Dream Radar. ● Back by popular demand(and inevitable success of ORAS) ●PWT or Battle Frontiers(can't be both) ● Contest ● Safari Zone(in the style of the eariler games, but keeping features in XY) ● They will overhaul the GTS Station and Dream World and have that return as well as Entralink. ● NO 4TH GEN REMAKE |

However, given that the existing 3DS is already having some trouble running Gen VI (again, it could be too early to jump to conclusions since there's just XY for now), I cannot imagine Gen VII if the problems of Gen VI persist. Gen VII is only going to be more demanding, not less. |
Quote:
I hope Gen VII will be like Sinnoh, introduce a whole group of normal evolutions since V and VII fell short in that regard. Actually out of the 5 generations that followed Gen I only 2 generations have had more than 2 evolutionary relatives introduced (those being II and IV). So a third generation with more than two evolutions/pre evos (hopefully evos) will be welcomed (by me at least). Seriously I'll like to see some cross gen evolutions to Gen IV Pokemon (and V and VI...even some more of III). |
I'd also like to see them introduce more evolutions this time around. In generation, it was mostly mega-evolutions. While that's indeed a cool new thing, I've felt that they had sort of overdone it. There are many Pokémon out there that, in my opinion, need to have a regular evo before becoming acquainted with mega.
|
Quote:
If they make around 70 more pokemon I'll like it to be like this 9 being their starters and their evos (which is obvious unless GF changes this feature of the series). 5 pre evos 10 evolutions of past Pokemon a normal trio the three (or maybe even a quad) mascot legends 2 event legends the rest can be new non legend/starter Pokemon with no relation to past Pokemon. The five pre-evos I'll like to see are of: Skarmory, Rotom, Absol, Mawile, and Sableye. Those 10 evolutions I'll like to see are for: Kecleon, Smeargle, Castform, Jynx, Cacturne, Breloom (if it doesn't get a Mega this gen), Crawdaunt, Kingler, Spiritomb, and Basculine. |
Instead of introducing new legendaries, I feel that it would be nice if they had utilized past ones that haven't gotten any major role in main series games, such as Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai, Cresselia, and so forth. There's a lot of them out there that fit in the category, and if they are indeed used, they'd be able to hold onto their new legendary Pokémon ideas for future and get enough time to develop them thoroughly, as opposed to rushing and whatnot.
|
Quote:
Plus they'll need some mascots, unless they go with starter mascots again. Even if they bring back old legends like in XY they may not explore them, we didn't learn anything new about Mewtwo in XY. We aren't even sure if Team Rocket were the ones who made it/them in the games. Actually the bird trio wasn't explored either, they could've connected it with Lugia in the games, as thus far their connection is mostly limited to the second movie... |
Personally, I would love freedom to be in the next generation of pokemon. Have the choice of being the good guy, or being on the bad side. Having different choices during your adventure would be amazing. I seriously would love to be on the evil team for once. Also, having new starter types, instead of Grass, Water and Fire all the time, would be nice. Having the choice out of Grass, Water and Fire every generation is boring now :/ I would love different types for the starter.

I enjoyed seeing Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu in their basic stage in the Kanto Anime. Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow feels more complete, albeit, not a rock-paper-scissors matchup. Though, I don't know how my nostalgic side would recieve a game that didn't offer at least the grass, fire, water choices! Another alternative would be a Water/Grass, Grass/Fire, Fire/Water trio. This could certainly have mixed receptions by longtime fans, but it could be pulled off. Aside from starters, I would love to see a Coastal Mediterranean Region. Start in Spain, move down to Italy, then go along the perimeter through Greece, Israel (Palestine), Egypt, Add the Congo somewhere near Algeria/Libya (I'm sorry I need a jungle!), Morocco, Portugal, then surf out to Cyprus for the E4. I love the ancient history in this part of the world (branching from the Fertile Crescent/Mesopotamia, and converging continents. It would be refreshing to take a step back from the modernized regions based on Modern-day US and France. Also, XY, though I LOVE it, was too...French. I would have preferred a mixture of cultural influences, like England, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, ect. |
Quote:
And an African based region would be awesome. An Australian based region would be equally as good. And I was also thinking of another feature that could be interesting to have in Gen 7. Making the starters harder to evolve. Make the first evolution a level based one, and then the second evolution be a stone evolution, but have the stone needed to evolve it, late into the game. That way, people won't have freaking...Charizards before the 3rd gym (this was just an example, and I have once grinded up my starter so much I had it fully evolved before the third gym). It could make pokemon more interesting. |

If GFis running out of ideas why dont they take some ideas from the manga. Like making the protags special by letting them have powers or even a trainer level so that they could grow along with the pokemon theyre using. That would totally change the game but it makes a lot more sense that a kid with special powers can beat an organization than a kid can beat an organization with only a maximum of 6 pokemon at hand
|
I wonder if Pokemon will take the bond thing further and have the player fuse with their Pokemon to create something more powerful (yes even more than a simple Mega). I have a feeling it won't be liked though...

Probably an open world with more JRPG elements would make the game non-repetitive. I want to join the villainous team, maybe become a breeder, or a gym leader perhaps. This would be great. And also, more Mega Evolutions!
|
Trainers could easily affect move execution like if your trainer level is low and you have a high leveled pokemon the moves will likely miss. It could also be extended to breeding, capturing and also constests if they put an effort to actually make this work. It could really change the game but in a good way.
|
I think we'll get more than 72 pokemon (There's been a pattern of high-low-high-low-high-low) but probably still not as many as we got in Kanto, Hoenn or Unova. Something like 100-110 probably. Since they'll probably count megas as new pokemon....
I think my preference for a region would be one based on Africa, India, Australia or Ireland + UK (last one is personal bias) Have we brought up the strange souvenir yet? It makes me think they were at least in the planning stages for the next generation when X & Y were finishing development. |

I need to ask is the NEW 3DS 9th gen or not? I know people are calling it the Dsi of the 3DS but the 3DS did not have DSi only games. (As far as I know) It did have the online only games but NEW 3DS seems to be getting new physical games. So could it be like the GBC all over again? Like has it been confirmed this is still 8th gen? Would be cool to see a new Pokemon gen. (Hoping it is out in 2016 and not 2015 due to starting a new gen on the 20th anniversary would be really cool.)

If I had any doubts about the 7th gen being on the 3DS they've almost all been cleared up now with announcement of these new 3DS. |
Quote:
I'm all for shorter console runs myself. Gen 7 lasted too long for me. As for regions I hope we see a Canada region or an Italy one. Or even a California one. Heck they have enough parts of the world for like 6 more games lol |
The only things I'm hoping for gen7 are:
-Farfetch'd 's pre-evo and Evolution -Jynx's Evolution -Hopefully a pokemon that connects Luvdisc and Alomomola -If not on ORAS... Mega Dragonite and Mega Hydreigon. -Dragon/Steel/Poison Eeveelutions. -No new types. -South America-based Region. |
I find it weird how Eeveen only got one new evolution this gen while in Johto and Sinnoh it got 2
|
I'm hoping for things that were missing in Unova and Kalos to return, like the Game Corner, Safari Zone, etc. Also, we've had 1 cross-generational relative in the last two generations COMBINED. Why not have more, there are still Pokemon that could use 'em, *cough* Parasect *cough*.

Let's see since we already have 4 Japan (Asia) regions, 1 US (North America), and 1 France (Europe) how about South America? Or perhaps another North American region, but this time based on Mexico, or perhaps Canada. I have a feeling they may go with another European region, the reason I say this is that they left Xerneas'/Yvetal's resting place a secret in XY. If it's not explained in 'Z' they could go in depth with it next generation. Perhaps a region based on France or Germany. |
We've had a region--Kalos--based off an European country very recently, which was France. While above post does have some good points, I can't exactly imagine them to continue XY's plot even further (or anything along the lines), since they usually don't do this sort of thing. Who knows, though; when it comes to Pokémon, I suppose anything is possible!
If they are to develop a new region, however, I'd personally like it if it were inspired by some place outside of that. Canada, maybe, haha. I remember reading some decent ideas about it around the web, and they very much intrigued me. If GameFreak could follow through, I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad. |

Though honestly I'm getting tired of all the Gen I copies...at this rate Gens II (to some degree), III and IV seem to be the most unique (they also just so happen to be my favorite generations). I hope next generation GF gives up on the generation 1 (and 2 fans). I don't even want them to make a Gen III, or IV copy, but something more original. With a healthy mix of both old and new Pokemon, by that I mean like 75 new mons, and 75 old mons in the dex. Speaking of the dex I'll like a return to being a Kanto size dex, with basic (yet based on different species) designs. Well maybe a Johto (original), Hoenn (original), or Pt Sinnoh sized dex. |
I would love it if we stepped away from Urbanized regions if it was possible, and have one set in the wilderness. I don't really have a preference as to where it's based off of, as long as we don't have a huge city like Lumiose again haha.
Hmm... as for dex size, maybe Kalos's was a little too massive so one that was smaller and undivided would be nice, with mostly new Pokemon. Maybe they should pull a BW again so we can step away from using our favorites and only include new Pokemon. |
I personaly think that 4th generation remake is not bad idea. I want seen in 3D whole sinnoh region which is the best region from all Pokemon games.
|
I do love the idea of having the choice to join the bad team. I'm curious as to how they would implement it though.
|
My theories?
120 or so new Pokemon. Mega Meganium/Typhlosion/Feraligatr. New England (the US states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont)-based region. Fossils based on prehistoric mammals (I'd like to see any TWO of the following [note: Wikipedia is your friend]: Doedicurus, Elasmotherium, Giant Ground Sloth, Woolly Mammoth, Irish Elk, Smilodon). Starters being a Grass-Type Koala, a Fire-Type Satyr, a and Water-Type Hippo. Not sure about secondary typing after evolving, but I would prefer Grass/Dark, Fire/Fairy, and Water/Steel. Legendary Mascots based on gods from Egyptian myth. |
Mega Johto starters should be a-OK, if you ask me. Sinnoh's will get their own eventually, but I'm sure that, unlike Johto, they'll be having their remakes coming up in newer future, and that's when they'd be able to introduce mega-evolution for their starters.

Now I wonder what the names of the Gen VII games will be. Perhaps Pokemon 0 and 1? Based off of computer code. |

I like the ideas for starters brought up. A Satyr could be likely if the Fire starter being based off of Zodiac animals (with the Honey Badger (Typhlosion) being the rat's substitute, and the Fox (Delphox) being the dog's substitute) is a real theme as Satyrs are part horse. As for typings perhaps Grass/Fighting or Grass/Ground for the Koala, maybe even Grass/Fairy. Fire/Fighting sounds possible for the Satyr as they tend to get into fights in most myths. Maybe Fire/Dark as some are sneaky. The water starter can be Water/Ground or Water/Steel as you said. As for the region, another US region in the Northeast may lead into speculation on a return to Unova. Though some did mention earlier wanting to go to another region like in GSCHgSs. So a New England based region may help with that. Though I imagine such a region would be big enough on it's own. If that is what they end up basing it off of, and have a return to Unova I'll like it to take place during Gen I and III's spot in the time line. Then we can maybe get a less industrial version of Unova. |
I believe introducing one-twenty new Pokémon would be a little too much. There's already a ton of them out there, which is very tough to capture, and becomes even tougher day-by-day as they introduce new generations and whatnot. If you ask me, a good middle-ground would be around thirty to forty. As for rest, they could always fill them up with things such as mega-evolutions and whatnot.
As for another US-based region, I personally wouldn't mind it, but others might, as we've had Unova very recently, which is also based off an US location, if I'm not mistaken, haha. |
I used to hear rumours about a region based on Southeast Asia. Honestly speaking, I cannot imagine how that region would look like...
I will very much prefer another region based on Europe, maybe Germany? Or perhaps the West Coast of the United States. |
I feel like it would be quite interesting to finally be able to join the villain team for once. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wanted to join Team Plasma. It would be an interesting change of pace, as, instead of journeying across the land, earning badges and stopping villain teams, you'd go on missions, trying to accomplish your team's goals while perhaps fighting a few of your former friends.
That'll never happen though, since Pokemon games seem to favor a certain kind of heroic player character. |
I've heard rumours (from this very website in fact!) that they are going to focus on simplicity.
I'm thinking that means like getting rid of things that has similar effects, like getting rid of Miracle Seed, Charcoal, Mystic Water, Etc., since the plates items are improtant to Arceus & have the same effect on any other pokemon that holds them. (Personally, I'd like to see them get rid of the plates & use the type-specfic power-up items instead to change types, because they are more orignal.) Also, I see Reshiram, Zekrom & the Black & White Kyurems having Mold Breaker instead of Turboblaze & Teravolt, as they do the same exact thing. Although, I'd rather these changes happen: Turboblaze: Gives prioty to Fire-Type attacks. (A fire-typed Gale Wings counterpart.) Teravolt: Allows Electic-type attacks to hit Ground-Types. (Like Scrappy, but for Electric moves.) |
I like the idea of introducing more evolution to previous lines like Gen 2 and Gen 4.
Though, I don't want this region to be another conglomerate of past generation as XY was, even though it worked well...it would be a bit repetitive. Also, the thing that makes games unique more than anything are the new pokemon. I prefer a smaller regional dex. (then the sky is the limit for a post-dex). Limiting the number of pokemon in a region preserves the idiosyncracies, aka charm/uniqueness, of the region. I'm thinking 50-65 brand new pokemon (not existing from a previous line), 15-25 new evolutions, and 20-25 new mega evolutions would give us a total of around 100 new additions without overwhelming the cumulative total. Then, a reboot generation, similar to gen 3, not gen 5, as far as # of pokemon, might be a necessary way to refresh the series in generation 8. That would be released a year or few after the next handheld console is released in 8 or so years from now. Wow, I will be 30ish by then! (And hopefully a better professor than the great Oak himself.) |
Quote:
If they were to incorporate this sort of thing again in future games, that would be pretty cool! However, one thing that I'm hoping for is for them to have it last even longer, and perhaps have us go even deeper than doing just one undercover mission or anything of the like. I don't have any idea on what could possibly be done, though; these are just my thoughts. |
I really want the next Pokemon generation to be non-linear. I want them to make it so that you can dictate where you go and what order you do things in. I understand that making a non-linear game is hard, especially with checking flag data and all that. But it can be done and allows you to make the Pokemon world more unique to your play style.
Pokemon X and Y could have been non-linear. It wouldn't have been very difficult. Most of the events concerning Team Flare could happen in any order and there would be no difference. The only one that I think needs to be done first is the one where you meet Team Flare for the first time in the cave. But aside from the end scenario, none of the other events hinge on the previous one. They're just a bunch of isolated missions carried out by Team Flare. |
Yes, that would indeed be nice. I'm not sure if I could think of a term for this, but I also believe that it'd be quite enjoyable for (many) people if they'd focused their story-line around choices that players make. Of course, not each and every result would be too distinct, but it would still be interesting if they would allow us to give us such power and whatnot, as I feel that it'd be adding more realism.
|
The thing about non linear games is that it tends to confuse kids these days so maybe GF tries to create games that are linear for kids to finish the games more easily. Remember that these games are made (i think) for 10 year olds
|
Quote:
|
I prefer non linear games though since It feels like the game is limiting us to follow an order we are sometimes not comfortable with.
|
Quote:
The reason I doubt that's GameFreak's reasoning is because several Pokemon games can be played in an off-the-path manner. I doubt this is by complete coincidence. Because if GameFreak was that set on it being linear they could make it so you can't fight the next Gym Leader without the previous Gym Badge. In Generation One you can fight Koga or Sabrina in either order. In Generation Two I know you can decide to fight Jasmine or Pryce before fighting Chuck, even if it means a lot of back tracking. In Generation Three Brawly and Winona can be skipped up until going to the Pokemon League. I've heard you can do a little sequence breaking in Generation Four, but I don't know myself. Generation Five has been cited as the most linear of the Pokemon games to my knowledge. So I don't know if there's any sequence breaking there. The reason for the linearity in Pokemon games more than likely has to do with their focus on narrative. This is actually the reason for a lot of games being linear. Its because it can be tedious not to accidentally cause events to get mixed up in an order that doesn't work. Like if a character references meeting you at place you've never been or uses an item they haven't acquired yet. To rectify issues like that it requires more programming. The more you allow the player to deviate the complex the programming necessarily has to become to accommodate all these factors. And of course, more complex programming means more time and money. I honestly don't think it would require too much extra effort on GameFreak's part. Generation One and Six are actually great examples to point to. Generation One can be sequence broken through glitches and the end story isn't all that different or messed up. It doesn't really matter if Team Rocket took over Pokemon Tower or if they were defeated at the Game Corner first does it? The same applies to Team Flare. Does it really matter if they storm the Pokeball Factory before the Powerplant? Aside from a few changes to the dialogue here and there (Which would be easy, you'd just have to set flags that turn on as you complete events and depending on which ones are active the game would reference the appropriate line.) As long as you have the meeting with Team Flare first and the Secret Base followed by the conclusion at the end the story makes perfect sense. |
Aside from non-linearity, I also believe that it'd be nice if they were to bring character customization back. I've heard rumors that in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, they would be removing this feature, considering that May and Brendan are well-established characters on their own, and allowing players to freely personalize these guys would kind of take that away.
Now, if they wish, they could still keep customization and limit it only to our online-self (when we go battling with somebody, trade, or mix records), but I'm not sure if this'll actually be happening, even though it might seem sort of logical to some. If they wind up doing similar things in Diamond and Pearl remakes--restrict us from customizing main characters--I'd find it to be disappointing, and so would many others, I'm sure. Lucas and Dawn are indeed established like Brendan and May, but I just hope that they don't continue putting the feature on ice due only to this reason. |
Generation 7 ideas
Hey here is my ideas for generation 7. Called Pokemon Proton and Neutron.
The Ledgendaries: The legendary for Pokemon Proton version is a white looking crocodile, with glowing atoms around it. It's type is Electric/Dragon. The legendary for Pokemon Neutron version is a wolf looking creature that has neutrons around it. It's type is Dark/Fairy. The Third legendary resembles and alien and is based off of an electron. It is yellow and is similar to mewtwo. It's type is Electric/Psychic. The Starters: The Grass starter for 7th gen is a hedgehog, that evolves into a giant porcupine. It's type is Grass/Steel. The Fire starter is a Rhino that has a flaming torch on it's horn. It's type is Fire/Dark. The Water starter is a baby Shark, that evolves into a great white. It's type is Water/Dragon. And it also gets a primal evolution and gets the ability strong jaw. The region: The region takes place in Egypt, mostly Cairo. There are cities and pyramids to explore as well. So those are my ideas, please share yours as well. And let me know if you like it. |
Wow, those ideas sound great!
If it were up to me, however, one change I'd personally make is to perhaps re-categorize the legendary wolf into some other typing, as fairy might not exactly fit (dark seems to sound fine--at least to me--as this is an aspect that wolves are normally associated with). Instead, perhaps you could have it become fighting? An alternative would be ghost, if it's portrayed as such. Another change I would make is, since water-type starter has a primal-evolution, I'd also give one of these forms to fire and grass ones. They're all meant to be equal, and doing that would help make them seem as such, I'm sure. If it were only that water-type that got primal form, chances are, more people would prefer it over other two, which would wind up to be a bit unfair. Basing the region off Egypt definitely sounds interesting. I could imagine most locations to be covered in sandstorm, since Egypt is mainly filled with deserts. Also, we already have a generation seven discussion thread, so if you don't mind, I'm going ahead and merging it with that! Merged. |

-Gamefreak, and TPCi in general, have a hard on with Greece. Movie 12 was based off of Greece, the spear pillar took design notes from our old temples, the remake names, the name of Kalos is greek for Beauty, and so on so forth. I think that besides the hinted region, which will likely be something in gen 6, we're getting Greece next. Like France, instead of one city they'll take the entire country, and go crazy with it. I can see it like Hoenn, with a huge landmass and an equal sized ocean. We arguably have one of the most distinct sillouettes for a country, along with numerous higly recognizable islands. Lots of mountains too, which is a plus, as well as a ready made mythological background. It just works I tell yah.
-If its on N3DS, expect it to be the last traditional generation. If its on the new handheld, expect a major shake up. Wii U level graphics for a Pokemon game means they have to soft reboot the entire Overworld portion. If you thought XY was a major update for jumping to 3D, then whatever gen comes out on the new handheld will be 10x more. -I'm either expecting them to introduce somewhere in the 100 ballpark new Pokemon, or none at all. It depends on if they decide to introduce more this gen, cause I can't see them going past 850. -A much more dynamic game. Expect the Lati Flying to be the replacement of fly, mark my words. HM's probably will be streamlined to Swimming, Flying, and then whatever interactions there could be on the OW. Cut,strength, Rock Smash, and Rock Climb are available for every Pokemon, but after you get the HM. Stuff like Waterfall and Diving would be the same, maybe. But yeah, exploration wise a major shake up. |
-Region based on Africa or the Amazons (we need jungles people!)
-More unique type combinations that have never been before (like Poison\Fairy, Normal\Dragon and Ice\Steel. These would be typings i want to see.) -Protagonist character development, perhaps even aging. (Maybe we'll finally know why they don't have dads. well excpet gen III) -Regarding the former, maybe a region with a dad in home instead of a mom, it could be a nice change. -More eeveelutons, maybe Steel or Poison who were demanded after getting Sylveon, to counter the Fairy typing. -Full 6V6 battles (12 pokemon on the field at the same time) I probably have more, that's just from the top of my head. And i think the Fire\Grass\Water starters are fine the way they are, but if they'll have another Fire\Fighting i'll get pissed! |
Quote:
Considering that Gen 3 and Gen 5 were essentially reboots chances are 7 may also be one. I hope they go with at least 80 new Pokémon. Fifty of those new non-legends/starters, 10 legendary Pokémon, the new starters, and 11 evolutions of old Pokémon. The dex as a whole hopefully will be 270. Out of the 190 returning mons I'll like to see the Eevee line, the Clamperl line, the Snorunt line, the Ralts line, the Riolu line, the Zoroark line, the Smoochum line, and Stantler (which hopefully will get an evolution). |
Quote:
Though, if they wish to have past characters make appearance, they could always have them age, all depending on after how many years said game takes place from previous generations and whatnot. I hope I'm making sense, haha. |
Quote:
Cheren, Bianca, Iris- they're all older. |
I think it should be based on Australia, that would be SO awesome.

I'd like to see a game, where the evil team actually succeeds in their evil plan and they create a postapocalyptic world. You as the protagonist then have to spend the second half of the game with exploration and gathering Pokemon and ressources so you can go in the main base of this team and beat them for good.
|
Agreeing with above; evil organizations were close to succeeding with their plan in previous games, but that was all; they were close, and eventually stopped by protagonist. Nothing else seemed to have happened behind that, sadly. If they decide to go above this formula at some point in future and allow them to actually have things their way, it should be nice change of pace; am sure fans would be interested.

If you can pick a Black avatar... why not just add an Adult option. Pick Boy/Girl -> Pick Race -> Pick Age.
Obviously only children play Pokemon, so that won't happen. Team Rocket will return with a plot to steal ALL the Mega-Stones in the world. |
It would be nice to see Team Rocket return again; considering that it's the original criminal organization, more people are familiar with them, and would appreciate seeing them.
Though, I wonder what kind of plan they could be having with those mega-stones? Haha. |
I was thinking they will still have it on 3DS because it is too sooneh to make a new gadget because there are still people without 3DS so it is too soonz I tell you.Yet I am imagining a new type again or some surprise mega evolution for some old legendaries(like lugia,ho-oh,suicune etc. <-- yet it would be a bit boring to see every of them getting mega evolutions and the uniqueness of the mega evolve would be a daily routine) or probably new pokemon with new mega-evolutions and brand new moves or some old pokemon getting to have evolutions.I was hoping to see a hidden legendary pokemon which will be either made by humen again(something like a mix of mewtwo and genesect came in my mind),or was a like Diancie,or a pokemon from the nature who would have two evolutions and a primal form.
As a new topic came by as I read the last two comments,I don't really belive Game Freak would pass the protagonism on Team Rocket.I will agree here that children play pokemon(well mostly of course) and the point of pokemon (in my beliefs) is to show the real frienship the fair and friendly antagonism, respect against eachother, the connection we have with our pets-in that case pokemon-(e.g. Ash and Pikachu) and how to be responsible to raise them correctly and you can do anything if you will belive in yourself, having faith, and be you without letting anyone change you. So getting team Rocket stealing all of the pokemon and succeeding will be kind of 'extreme' for the children and this might bring pokemon in destruction and we really don't want that. |

I was just fooling around a bit and I calculated that if the 6th generation had the exact same lifespan as the 5th generation. The 7th gen games would be released 563 days from today. Specifically 22nd May 2016.
Of course that's a Sunday so it wouldn't be that exact date. (Although it's unrealistic to think they'd have the exact same lifespan.....) On the other hand, the two gens with the longest lifespans (3rd and 4th) also had remakes. So this current gen may be around 1400 days long as well because of the 3rd gen remakes. I figure we'll at least have an announcement some time in 2016. |
2016 is honestly not that far; it'd be here before we even know it. I wonder, though, will generation seven be on 3DS (similarly to how fifth generation was to DS and whatnot), or will it be on a new handheld entirely? I'm sort of expecting them to be siding with former option, since 3DS is still fairly new and believe that they aren't very likely to be introducing another handheld console for at least three or so years.
|
Is it bad that Gen VII reminds me of Final Fantasy VII? I'm not really sure what they'll cover next. They already had stories based on land and sea, time and space, truth amd ideals, and life and death. It'll either be really familiar or really out there. I'd personally prefer the latter. I just know one thing: I'll probably end up naming my starter Cloud as commemoration.
|
I'd expect Gen VI to end in 2016 with either a Red/Blue remake (remake) or sequels to X & Y. These followed by the first set of games in 2017 for Generation VII. That would mean Generation VI lasting for 3 years, as did Generation V.
|
At this moment, I believe it'd be best had they went with either a sequel to or third-installment for X and Y (both are good options, but if they go with former, I'd like it if they were to keep its story more far from original, if possible, and am sure so would many others); having us visit Kanto again likely won't be a good idea, especially since we've did get to visit the place very recently in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Definitely wouldn't mind if it were re-introduced couple of years later, however!

To be honest(In my own option) I kinda like the old traditional way of you trying to be the champion and do good for the world and prevail the bad,it teaches alot of things in the meantime of the game. But let's not rush it up!Let's be bright and see what other surprises the Game freak is making for us!I am sure it will be fun either ways! |
I have a feeling that Z may be release sometime mid next year with about the same 8 month difference that the first pair of remakes and Emerald had in Japan. With Gen VII coming out some time last 2016.
Considering it's 2016 the 20th anniversary of RG I was thinking maybe we'll get another trip in Kanto, but a future version, perhaps sharing the time line with BW (that way we'll know how long BW takes place after Gen II and Gen IV) or maybe even B2W2XY(Z? huh B is pronounced just like V...I wonder if that was done on purpose (with V(B)WXYZ in mind)...). Blue could return from his trip in Kalos at the eighth gym and use either the Mega Kanto starter weak to ours (with Champion Red having the one strong against ours but weak to Blue's) or a different Mega. The biggest difference will be the discovery of all new Pokémon in the Kanto region and the arrival of strange new legendaries (two of which could be the mascots). Also new areas of the Kanto region. And a new Eeveelution (Dragon type). Also a return to the Johto region post game. The champion could be Red (who could've taken his spot back from Lance) or Gold/Ethan or perhaps even Silver, or maybe even Crystal/Lyra (I still think of her as Crystal...) to bump up the number of female champions to four (or maybe Leaf will appear as Champion to add her into the canon). Actually Lyra/Crystal would be nice as we already have Red be the final boss of GSCHgSs, so giving a female player some spotlight would be nice for those who play the female characters (as it could otherwise make us think that the player being Male is canon in all the games...) The theme of the generation would be change versus stability, and a blending of old and new. The evil team could be trying to change the Kanto and Johto regions (who knows perhaps the game could take place in both regions at once with some areas of each closed off), trying to "Mega Evolve" the societies, having gotten the idea from Mega Evolution (sort of like how progressives at the time got the idea of social evolution from Darwin's theory of the Evolution of species). They could be a fusion of Ghetsis' Team Plasma and Team Flare, with some Omega Ruby Team Magma added in. Perhaps they think humans have evolved far enough that they no longer need pokemon, and that the creatures are holding humanity back from their true potential. |
I'd like to see certain features take the next step forward. Pokeball breeding should be expanded, perhaps add a way to create custom ball designs/colors and make them heritable. In that same vein, I'd like more character customization. As someone said, selectable age in addition to race/hair/whatever. Perhaps a story formula that would suit a character of any age rather than "kid gets first Pokemon, beats gyms/evil team/E4." I would also like to see the game expand on the idea of interacting with Pokemon introduced with PokemonAmie. It'd be tough to do much considering there're so many species but I enjoy the immersion of it. I am certainly also curious to see on what place the next region will be based. All regions so far have been drawn from places in the northern hemisphere. It'd be cool to see an Australian, African, or South American type of region.

I would like it if we were to visit a future version of Kanto, personally. I've had access to this region plenty of times before--once in Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, once more in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, another in FireRed and LeafGreen, and now (most recently), HeartGold and SoulSilver--so if we're going there again this time around, I believe many of us would find it to be sort of stale. Of course, things would look sort of different with X and Y style of graphics, but nearly everything else would remain same, unfortunately. If they allow us to view a future Kanto, though, none of this would be an issue; of course some things would remain the way they are--Viridian Forest, for example--many other aspects would likely differ.
I wonder what kind of storyline it could possibly be housing, though? Of course, Team Rocket probably won't be there any longer due to them being taken down already, but to keep us on our toes and whatnot, something interesting must be going on. Instead of their usual evil-team method, I feel it'd be pretty cool if they were able to incorporate something new all-together, such as the Kanto League passing some laws that Pokémon trainers are heavily against, causing trainers to get into a feud with them. |

Though, if they're continuing off of Z, wouldn't that make things seem a little too stale? Plan I've suggested is sort of similar Marvel comic's Civil War story; government passes a new law requiring people with superhuman strength and ability to reveal themselves and register (otherwise, they would be declared criminals). In result, we have two sides of heroes--one supporting the act, and other negating--which causing them to go against each other in a feud of sorts to make a statement. We've never seen anything like this in Pokémon games before (and if executed right, I don't believe it would wind up to be too mature), and them following it up would likely be pretty intriguing, I feel.
|
I wouldn't mind a region based off Queensland. It's a fairly tropical place, with the Great Barrier Reef off the coast and a crapton of amazing scenery (especially compared to the wasteland that is WA, NT and northern SA).
Blue-ringed Octillery and Box Tentacruel when? |

Speaking of forms, I kind of wish they would add more of those in future games, rather than implementing completely new Pokémon as a whole. From what I've seen, special forms raise value of Pokémon in general, by giving us the motivation to be constantly collecting and looking around for them. Of course, their popularity do dwindle as time moves forward, but for the generation that they're part of, they still remain somewhat known for a decently long time. |

Ha, I totally thought of the Civil War storyline when reading that comment, seems that was what you had in mind. Not sure about it though...well maybe they could have half of the league be like N, and the other half be like the player characters of Gen V. Not exactly in liberating Pokémon, but the way it's built up. N certainly didn't come off as arrogant or evil (it had noble intentions) for his desires to free Pokémon, and neither did the main character. What I'm mostly unsure of is what they could ban...unless they want to bring back the banning of Pokémon (may N returns?). |

I too, want Pokemon to step outside the box with their next generation (although maintain the authenticity of a Pokemon main series game). I'd absolutely love a plot line like Pokemon Colosseum but on the 3DS. That game really stood out to be growing up because it was so radically different from playing the cookie-cutter protagonist in a new region. Wes was such a complex character, and it was also new to have a partner following you at the time! The premise, villains, cities (especially The Under) and everything about Colosseum, I loved. I'd really like GameFreak to try and step out of their boundaries for this next generation and take a leap of faith in a similar direction to Colosseum, or like something you're suggesting. It also has aspects of other things people have suggested in this thread... Colosseum was definitely non-linear (or at least more so relative to the main series games), you played as an ex-bad guy (which is kind of like being on the villanous team), and it was held in an extremely different and exotic region (barren landscape, memorable towns and cities, no wild Pokemon, and shadow Pokemon!!). |
I want to see magic get attention. Pokemon are, or can me magical, right?

I wonder if they'll fit in DP remakes into Gen VII. My speculative time line is this:
2015: Next Kalos Game 2016 or Early 2017: Gen VII pair 2018: Gen VII third version or sequels 2019/2020: DP remakes (The remakes seem to be coming 5 years apart (in terms of Japan releases at least) with FrLg released in 2004, HgSs in 2009, and now OrAs in 2014, so if that pattern continues it'll mean DP remakes in 2019 (going further BW on 2024, XY on 2029 and so on). With 2020 due to the other pattern FrLg were released 8 years after the , HgSs were released 10 years after, and OrAs are being released 12 years after their original counterparts (in Japan). So 14 years post DP means 2020). I have a feeling they're going to go with a Gen IV style release for DP remakes (like how OrAs are having a Gen III style release to fit in with how it's generation worked). If they go with a yearly formula then perhaps we'll get: 2015: Next Kalos Game 2016: Gen VII 2017: Next Gen VII region game 2018: Gen VIII 2019: next Gen VIII game 2020: DP remakes A 2020 release of DP remakes in Gen VIII would fit the 6 + 2X (X= Generation number) after release and the 2*the Generation number (except for Gen I remakes). Seems like a lot though to have that amount of games so close to one another (with a generation being 2 years in such a scenario). I hope they spread out Gen VII like they did with Gen IV...well maybe not too much like they did with Gen IV. In an interview sugimori mentioned wanting to make Gen VII simple, returning to the roots of Pokémon. So we may see another reboot, and a more Kanto like story with Kanto like Pokémon. Actually my mention of Gen VII possible being a return to the actual Kanto came from this, I rather they return to Kanto itself rather than make another expy of the region. |

Yeah, DP may be the last remakes. BW seem like they'll be difficult as they had sequels instead of a third version which thus far has been made into a side story/post-game thing, so they'll have to make two pairs of remakes for that Generation. I rather they do another BW sequel except called Pokemon Grey (which will fuse all three dragons into a grey dragon).
