Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2014 - Bug
http://i.imgur.com/GlrDIYb.png Welcome to the second annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in the Pokémon Polls board, where our goal is to determine the favorite Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity! This will be a tournament that lasts several months, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types together to determine a winner. After we know the winner of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and be known as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon! If you haven't had the opportunity, please read the Rules/FAQ to find out more about the tournament: Spoiler:
NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Bug-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote. Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until October 4th, so get voting! Surskit is my all-time favorite Bug type pokemon. It's sooo cute, and I love how its a water strider. I learned about them and surface tension in school around the same time it came out, and I really liked how there was a pokemon to make a connection with. :)
Joltik/Galvantula are really creative designs so they're my 2nd vote. A tick which cutely eats the static electricity a pokemon's fur, instead of cruelly sucking blood, is such an excellent concept. A spider whose webs immobilize opponents not with stickiness but electric paralyzation is also such a cool idea. Bridging these two ideas into a single evolutionary line, al beit different species and a drastic size difference, makes them all the more perfect. Butterfree because of how much I loved it in the animated series; although overshadowed by other Quiver Dance users, I find that this makes it all the more satisfying to pull off. And finally Kricketune, because DELELELELEWOOOP. |
I voted for Scizor and Accelgor. Scizor has always been great competitively since Platinum, due to it gaining Bullet Punch and Superpower, as well as a very strong U-turn. He could also use a SD set to attempt a sweep at late-game. I like using him in XY though, since it gained a really useful mega evo which allows it to trap, support and revenge kill pretty easily. It's really good on rain teams due to its resistances to grass and dragon. Accelgor... eh, it's good in lower tiers as a revenge killer with its decent base special attack, but I especially used it back in gen 5, where it had a niche as a fast spiker once Deo-D got banned.
Also, both Scizor and Accelgor look really cool, and are perfect for a bug-type E4 member, such as Aaron. |
Volcarona, Scizor, Vivillon, and Genesect here.
Volcarona is my favorite Bug type. It has a cool type combo, Bug/Fire (although that does come with a 4x Rock/Stealth Rock weakness, as well as getting walled by like every Fire type), and it gets nice moves like Fiery Dance and Quiver Dance. I like the way it looks to. Scizor, because like Amour said, it's pretty good competitively. Vivillon is the best of the early game bugs, imo. I really like all the patterns it has too. I'm not much of a collector, but the Vivillon forms were one of the very few things I bothered to go and catch 'em all. And I like Genesect's shiny form. One of the few shinies I actually like. |
Butter free, kakuna, venonat, scyther, scizor, ninjask, surskit, galvantula, pinsir, volcorona, Genesect
|
Vivillon is shockingly my fav atm its just so cool I also like galvantual and volcarona nice types and power
|
I voted for the Scizor, Volcarona, Burmy, and Surskit because they are all my favorites at the moment! Scizor for having 1 weakness, Volcarona for being bad ass with Fiery Dance, Burmy for evolving into cool bug combinations like Bug Rock, and Surskit for being so cute and for making Bubblebeam a nightmare!
|
Yay I've been looking forward to the Bug poll! :)
My favourites are the almighty Venomoth, Dustox, Mothim, Vivillon and Parasect :) There's a bit of a pattern with the first four haha :) Venomoth was the first Bug type I ever properly used and it completely transformed the way I thought of Bug types :) So yeah, it and Dustox are there cause I love my little poison moths haha; Mothim for being a big part of team in Diamond; Vivillon cause of the patterns!!!! and Parasect cause I think it's quite underrated and I love its design and access to Spore :) |
I surprised myself a little with the number I ended up voting for. There are just a lot of well-made Bug-types. Most of the ones I liked were ones with leading vote tallies anyway (Scizor, Heracross, Volcarona, Galvantula...), but Ledian, Ariados, and Yanmega only had one other voter. A shame - I realize that Ledian is pretty useless and Ariados isn't a whole lot better, but I'm way into the designs of all those guys, anyway.

Voted for Butterfree and Volcarona.
Butterfree has been a favorite of mine since the beginning, but recently I used it in a playthrough of y and loved it. Great coverage for ingame teams even if it's not good competitively. Plus it's a pretty design haha Volcarona because of it's sweet typing. |
I went with Scizor, Yanmega, Heracross, Scolipede, Galvantula and Volcarona. Most of my choices have served me well in battle. Powerful and fast, just the way I like 'em.
|
I went for the Weedle family! Weedle's incredibly cute and a really cool looking Pokémon, whilst Beedrill made up the Grass-side of my first ever TCG deck and I've adored the family ever since. It's a bit weird given how much I hate bees and wasps in real life, but I find the family really cool and they've been a lot of fun to use both in-game and in the TCG.
|
Scyther, Pinsir, Yanma, Nincada, and Genesect
I've always liked Scyther. I had a Green deck in the CCG, and Scyther was my best guy. Give him a Leaf energy, use Swords Dance. Then give him a Double Colorless and attack with Slash for 60 damage. In my opinion, evolving into Scizor ruins him. You replace arm swords with clamp hands? Really? Pinsir is the most fierce looking Bug out there. Big, strong, and able to learn wrestling moves, he's just cool. Also, that Scyther/Pinsir log cutting minigame from Stadium 2 was too fun. Kabuki style "Oohwhoo-ooh!" then SLICE! Yanma is pretty cool. He's quick, and knows a few good moves. Hey, Ancient Power. Neat. Wait, he evolves? Into wha- OH, I was wrong! Pinsir isn't the most fierce looking anymore! Say hi to Yanmega, but do it quickly, 'cuz he's gotta go fight Godzilla now! Awesome, AWESOME dragonfly. Nincada. More specifically, Shedinja. I'm pretty sure you can solo Cynthia with Shedinja. I definitely remember taking out her Lucario with one. Ghost ninja troll bug. Genesect. I've said why. EXTERMINATE! |
Joltik and Galvantula. They're so cute, especially Joltik! I've almost always really liked bugs/insects in real life, and I especially love arachnids, and my favourite type has always been Electric. When I found out that not only were we finally getting the Electric/Bug combo, but they were adorable spiders??? Man, I was so thrilled. Galvantula was always a beast in battle when I played through Gen V a few times, too.

I voted for Venomoth <3 , Yanmega, Leavanny
I didn't vote for it but I love Ledian too (just too bad is not that good...) it's sooo cute! I voted for other : Accelgor, Vespiquen, Escavalier, Armaldo. |
Bug and Grass Types are my favorites, so I made sure not to vote for everyone.
My top 5 and why I love them. 1. Vespiquen, queen bee concept, beehive body, jeweled crown, three signature moves, combee is the cutest thing ever. 2. Leavanny, I love the entire line, garbed in leaves, large leaf collar, cheerful disposition, slender shape. 3. Volcarona, beautiful, sun patterned wings, white fluff, fire/bug typing 4. Scyther, giant scythes!, little spikes on his head and thighs, cute reptilian face, I also love Scizor's red metallic suit, 5. Butterfree and Beautifly, my favorite butterflies! |
I expect Genesect or Scizor to win this, but my vote goes to the Shelmet/Accelgor family, for the weird way Shelmet evolves and Accelgor's freakin' AWESOME design.
|
I voted Butterfree - absolutely majestic, and it's very effective early on in the games. :]
|
My votes for this topic go to Venomoth, Vivillon, and Scyther.
Bug is another one of those types that I don't hold a whole lot of love for. I like very few of them design-wise, and I usually find them difficult to use in-game. Vivillon is one of the few that really shines on an in-game team, I think - its movepool makes it a near-perfect Team Flare killer. |
Scizor is killing it. I really like Scyther and Scizor, they'd have been my second choice. But Heracross is just too powerful. To me he is the quintessential bug type as he showed everyone that bug types can be strong. Before him they were only really seen as pests with annoying status moves. But Heracross put the fear into people. Fear the Mega Horn.
|
Caterpie/Butterfree and Galvantula for me.
Butterfree because who didn't cry when Ash released Butterfree in the anime, and Galvantula because he is one of my favorite pokemon to battle with competitively. Very underrated in my opinion. |
- Paras line: So many flaws, but I will never not enjoy putting this Pokemon on my team
- Venonat line: Venomoth might be best bug of all time in my book not sure yet. - Forretress: I already expressed my love for you in the steel thread - Vespiquen: Truly a bad ass ***** |
Turns out you'll realize how many Bug-types are actually visually appealing to me, as follows:
Caterpie line: Butterfree is one of my 1st Gen faves, and was always a handy team member in the old days of Pokemon thanks to its many status moves it came with. Scyther line: Scizor is pretty much one of the general fan fave Bug-types, and with its strong attack power and a Mega Evolution to boot it's no wonder why. Joltik line: Compound Eyes Thunder? Hell yeah. Joltik is also extremely cute. Wurmple line: Its evolution line is pretty unique in that it's an evolution based entirely on something that's completely invisible to you, meaning it's hard to tell whether you'll get a Dustox or Beautifly until you find out. Larvesta line: Volcarona is majestic, and its powerful special attacks made it another general fan fave of the 5th Generation. Surskit line: I find these ones really cute, and Masquerain's design is very interesting. Not to forget Surskit having a unique type combination. Venipede line: Fast and can hit hard. Scolipede is also really big, so you don't wanna mess with that thing ever. Sewaddle line: Again, another interesting concept with the design, and Leavanny has the stats to be useful on an in-game team especially if you can max its happiness quickly. Scatterbug line: Vivillon's form concept is what makes it one of my fave Bug-types ever. The wing patterns make it highly sought after by global traders who want to catch 'em all. And they all have nice colors as well, hence the name. Pinsir & Heracross: Both are powerful attackers, and have Megas that gave them competitive relevance. |
I voted for a bunch :)
- Butterfree - Scizor - Surskit - Leavanny line - Joltik - Larvesta - Vivillon line Bugs are some of my favourite Pokemon :) I did my Bug run-through on Pokemon Y and did pretty well :D Cuteeee! |
Previously used to be my least favorite type - but now started liking a couple, so voted for them
Ledyba & Ledian - I'm very surprised how well they did in my teams. the other two votes aren't technically bugs - they are the arachnids. Love spiders a lot Spinarak & Ariados and also Joltik & Galvantula |
